This took a turn from the typical but has good payoff at the end
hazard11126 August 2022
I never read the book this was based on so I cannot say if they did it justice but by itself I thought this was good. IF you think this is going to be a generic rom com show themed around lawyers with a roses and rainbows predictable ending, think again. It's not perfect mind you. Some cringe. Some cheesiness. Some iffy acting here and there. Quite like a soapy kdrama sort?

The characters here are flawed too. They make weighted decisions that the audience might find off putting considering they're supposed to be the main characters. This is also a slow burn. First half is about the build up and presentation the second half is where it shines. The end is a great closure with potential for future story.

There's some 'this won't happen irl' moments like any other show as they tend to crank stuff up a notch but it's all still relatable. Most especially one of their main focus of 'finding what you want in life' which really hits a lot for me. It's not a heavy drama, quite light hearted but serious.

The side characters have their own personality and adds to the dynamic. I was rooting for Rachel's storyline more but Ingrid's storyline focus isn't so bad. My gripe honestly is that I wish they focused more on the lawyer journey and sidelined the romance plot so we get a more genuine slow burn tension.

Easy to watch. Lazy weekend fare.
buffgirl73-265-69622627 August 2022
I'd never seen anything about this show, but It appeared on my feed - love Netflix' algorithm - so gave it a go and whilst it's not insightful, it's fun.

I like all the characters, they're pretty to look at and the dialogue is quite witty.

Definitely an old vs young vibe about it.

Each episode keeps your attention and it's great for a binge!

If you want easy watching and to have a smile on your face, then this is for you.

More to it that Emily in Paris, but in the same vein with great outfits for all.

If you're looking for deep, groundbreaking show with life lessons, it's probably worth swerving!

I loved it.

Confusing
blebbe4 September 2022
I found it pretty hard to get into this series, it was pretty messy and confusing in the beginning. Maybe it's my lack of knowledge about business and law or something else, but half of the time I had no idea what was going on. Towards the end though, the story started to become more clear and easier to follow.

While I was watching this I noticed myself asking what the point of this series was. What's the real story here? What are they trying to convey to the viewer? Because, this series didn't really bring anything new or interesting to the table and it was hard understand the whole concept. Some aspects of this show were enjoyable and/or well though out; the racism issue, the characters' friendships and relationships. I'm sure there is something to valuable and fascinating about this series, which would have become clearer with improved writing.

Surprising
fayandray2 September 2022
I expected to turn it off within 30 minutes. I expected it to be as bad as a Lifetime movie. As bad as all the other Netflix romantic shows and movies. But when I got to the end credits of the first episode and realized it wasn't a movie, I felt an inkling of hope that this might actually be interesting.

It is borderline cheesy most of the time. But somehow, it manages to skirt that line and overcome it with relatively compelling characters and story, as well as just enough chemistry and decent pacing. I am on episode 7 and haven't fast forwarded once.

Maybe it was the low expectations... maybe it was the mood... Either way, it's nice to be pleasantly surprised.

Keep it in your Pants and Goofs
conorpp-9722421 September 2022
What is it about Hollywood? Why do the leads always have to cheat on their partners? I actually find it pathetic that the scriptwriters in US dramas feel that they need to devolve into banal personal angst episodes of love triangles, cheating and lying.

I enjoy the ethical and moral issues raised during these business deals. Why cant we focus on the real meat? The work of being an M&A lawyer..

Goofs ....Teslas dont use keys ....England and Wales dont play their international rugby match until Feb or March. Not in November. There are Autumn Internationals, but they are usually Southern Hemisphere vs Northern Hemisphere.

Watch it till the end
mcmeridith1 September 2022
This show tackles so many real truths that people of color have to deal with all the time in the workplace. Reading the reviews of others, it's obvious they did not watch it till the end. Yes, the characters take awhile to grow on you, but the show does a delicious job of getting viewers invested in each of Ingrid's, Rachel's and Tyler's storylines. Each are flawed, but I found them all to be oh-so-relatable.

Ingrid's character is flawed, but an honest, almost too painfully honest, reflection of what the model minority has been indoctrinated to do in Corporate America in order to succeed. I'm so glad the show fleshes this out in all its cringeworthy glory. This is honest, this is the dark underbelly of minorities attaining the highest ranks in prestigious corporations and still getting screwed over in the end. If you can't understand it, you're not ready. It's ok. Minorities who've been there can relate. Finally a fun show that paints people of color as complex individuals, who make mistakes but who each have hope of some form of redemption.

Easy watch
KiimR27 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think you should rate this for what it is meant to be. Just an easy and nice watch! And i liked the ending, that he indeed was a F-boy. They always try to make us believe those guys will change for the right girl. Glad they showed that that is not always true! I do not really liked that the main girl didnt give more dept, but it was a short show so i think it is oké. Oh and good that the best friend is going to try writing and did not had succes at her first try! It is not that easy to change career. Oh and if they do a second season, please match main girl with Z. Overall, just do not expect too much, get something to drink and just have a fun watch.

Oh and loved her waredrobe!

Pleasantly Surprised
ninazachej26 August 2022
Just finished 3rd episode and I am truly surprised how easy to watch it is. Very refreshing show, characters are really likable, story too. Something between Harvey & Mike from Suits relation & Rom-com. It got potential, its relatable. The main character has drive yet she is searching balance between career and private life, like most of us in our 30s.

No chemistry
annelise-bryda4 September 2022
If you want something mindless to binge on a weekend this isn't horrible. But the acting of the main actress was just bad and her two love interests weren't much better. She was so uninteresting with no real character arch. And there was zero chemistry between her and Murphy which made that entire storyline feel fake. Didn't get a ton of chemistry Bentsen her and Nick either but that may have been the point in that relationship. The characters Rachel and Tyler were more interesting and played by much better actors. I might watch a season 2 if there is one but based off of season 1 not sure. There are so many side characters that come and go but don't provide a lot of value because they're not there long enough: Justin, Ingrid's sister, etc. Overall this show isn't horrible but not good either.

Totally Unrealistic- A Disservice to any young person considering law school
jkoncelik-1803111 September 2022
As a partner at a law firm this show is annoyingly unrealistic about the practice of law. So much so that I found it impossible to watch. Here are reasons it's unrealistic:

1. The show does not show the grind of what it's like to bill hours at a major New York law firm; 2. A corporate associate working on M&A (even a 6 year associate) is still spending the vast majority of their time reviewing documents, drafting documents and working on due diligence; 3. Even the Partners don't have as nice of offices as the 6 year associate in this show; 4. Most Partners nowadays share their assistant with multiple lawyers; 5. In the first episode two associates compete to be on a $2.9 billion dollar merger. On a merger that larger many associates would be working on it; 6. If there was silly competition and high school level interactions between associates like portrayed in this show they would be fired; and 7. This one is more joking but I don't think almost any law office is as crowded as shown post-pandemic which is a real bummer for most young lawyers.

If you are considering law school and watching this show that's great but just don't think this portrays what your life would be like post law school.

Surprisingly good
domyozera28 August 2022
I enjoyed the show much more than I expected. I could relate to most characters, and most of them acted like real people with real problems. There are issues like racism and misogyny in the show, but the show didn't feel woke for the sake of being woke. I really enjoyed the character of Marty.

My biggest gripe is that the chemistry between Ingrid and Jeff felt very forced. I felt like she had more spark and real connection with Nick. I couldn't see what she saw in Jeff: he was boring, sleazy, and not even that good-looking.

Other than that, I enjoyed the show very much and ended up binging it.

Sort of a mess
notraxx2 September 2022
While the show has some nice tensions and quality dialogue, it really suffers from muddled characterization and arcs. We know everything about the main character, an overachiever who wants more than anything to be partner. Everyone around her sort of meanders in and out of her life and over the course of 10 hours, I'm not sure we find out anything useful about these people. There is definitely a woke agenda here, but unlike a lot of shows and movies, it is incorporated into the narrative pretty well. When I finished it, I thought, "ehh, that was probably worth binging," but I did find myself reaching for the cellphone at times as the show kicked into autopilot. They just played it too safe I think.

I'm here for the Asian female lead but the AFWM trope is TIRED
reinalove5 September 2022
This series was interesting and entertaining with the female lead who happens to be Asian American. As an Asian American female myself, I recognize the significance of representation. I love that there is also Asian American male that are not portrayed as the stereotypical nerdy or weak character but as strong capable. I am tired of seeing the Asian Female White Male trope. It's almost always that in 99% of anything with an Asian female lead. Hollywood is too scared to make it more ethnic and lose their precious demographics. I was pleasantly that race and sexism is tackled. I would've loved to see Ingrid and her family speak more Korean when they were together. That part didn't seem authentic. It was like they didn't want to go there. Anyway I appreciated the arc of her character even tho she was messed up to her homies. I hope that there is a season 2 cuz I'll be watching and that she gets with Z. Netflix, Asian girls like to date other races besides white guys, OK!

Pretty Decent
alliegrooms3612 September 2022
A ton of liberal and woke bs that is unnecessary to the storyline, but still an enjoyable watch. The lead lawyer is a huge cliche of angry, irritated, and rude white guy, but I mean I didn't expect anything less. In all honesty I don't know much about how law offices work, but I can only imagine that being uptight and cutthroat at all times has to be a cliche. I've always loved Arden Cho as an actress so getting to see her on screen again was fun. Acting was overall pretty decent as well, plot is a bit stiff but each character kind of brings their own charisma. Give it a try if you enjoy your typical Netflix drama.

Fresh writing, beautiful cast, hot stuff
jumpshot-227 August 2022
I love lawyer shows. I'm a sucker for Suits. I felt this was Friends and Suits with a little splash of Devils Loves Prada with all the style and hot looking people. The banter is witty and the feelings are genuine, and you're rooting for both guys. Great writing!

The cast is led by Arden Cho and she carries the show with her presence and beautify, and grounds it with love of family that is very believable (they even add some Korean in to add authenticity when talking to her mom and dad). The cliche relationships and love tension does not feel cliche and you're wondering how the drama unfolds with the parallel threads.

Overall, a highly entertaining show for me.

Bad start, but gets better
jhonculada6 September 2022
In the beginning, this show felt like a poor copycat of other shows like Emily in Paris and Suits. The acting in the beginning was cheesy and bad and I found myself not liking the main character, Ingrid, or her sleazy love interest, Murphy. However, the bad first half of the season takes a turn with a much better and much more interesting second half. We start off the show with young, extremely successful lawyers who are living the life and, although that's fun to watch, it's much more relatable to see characters fail and flounder and gain a conscience, which was why the ending was so satisfying. I only hope this show gets a season 2 because it was just starting to get interesting at the very last episode. I would definitely watch a season 2 because I want to see these characters become successful on their own terms.

Refreshing, fun and modern
adoyle-4465129 August 2022
I loved the casting and thought the storyline was relatable, fun and modern. It portrays realistic and dramatized workplace scenarios of striving for your dreams, rooting for the underdog, and heartbreaking betrayals. It's also sprinkled with steamy moments of romance as likable characters try to find their way in a corporate, white male driven society. As a professional in NYC, it was entertaining and definitely touched upon real life moments that many of us can relate to as we navigate life. If you're looking for seamless casting and believable love triangles, this is going to be right up your alley. I watched the whole thing in a weekend and loved it!

A slow burn but still worth it
marayabidjerano31 August 2022
I normally don't like slow burns. That said, I still very much enjoyed this!! The love triangle with Ingrid was a bit annoying, but otherwise, the characters are all dynamic, relatable, and there is much more to the plot that you might think. If you try it, I encourage you to stick it out until at least episode 3. It gets really good from there. I found myself fast-forwarding through a few of the scenes, which normally would make me turn off the show completely, but I was invested in the characters and knew I wouldn't be content until I knew what happened. If there's a season 2 (which I'm guessing there will be), I hope the writers fix the pacing. That is truly only thing that's keeping me from giving 10 stars.

Tyler (Bradley Gibson) absolutely stole the show! I think his plot/character development was by far the best.

Could not get into this, felt cheesy
MovieQween-3362230 August 2022
I had really high hopes for this series and based on the trailer I was excited!! Love seeing a strong, hard working woman on screen!! However, when I started to watch, all the characters felt all over the place and none had chemistry or dialogue that caught my attention. It was sloppy and cheesy; not in a good way. I think maybe the writing and/or acting are both off. This didn't hit right for me, wanted to love it but couldn't even finish the first episode. And I don't think I'll be giving it another shot unfortunately. I don't care about the direction of the show or where any of the story could go. Also the boss "Marty" was maybe the worst acting of all. Unwatchable.

Loved it !! Can't wait for season 2
codamax11 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure at first but was sucked in during the first episode and binge watched all 10 episodes . Oh but how I despise cliff hangars that you have to wait a whole year to reveal. I wonder how long we have to wait for season 2 i hope not another whole year ugh. The acting was quirky but believable and reminds me of how attorneys and big firms really compete for billable hours making partner and the sucking up and embarrassment that entails. Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish and the casting was spot on. Can't wait for season 2. And I hope all of the cast characters from this season show up for next season.

Very Predictable
PalmBeachG5 September 2022
We all knew how this was going to turn out in advance - the ending of this is very easy to predict. The moral of the story here is - girls, don't sleep with anyone in the workplace or you will be stabbed in the back eventually. This series would be hard to watch if you have no interest in the legal system since most of the script is centered around legal corporate issues, the struggles of jr. Lawyers trying to get partnerships, racial discrimination and harassment and making your dreams come true at the expense of others. The one actor who did a decent job was Rob Heaps who seemed to fit the role of the NY rich billionaire nice guy perfectly. The others seemed a little forced.

I'd give it a zero if I could
sherryarosen28 August 2022
I've been in the legal field for 30 years, 25 of which were in law firms, and after 10 minutes I could tell you without a doubt that this show obviously doesn't take place in a labor and employment law firm because if it were, there would be no TV series.

The acting is horrible. The audio sucks.

Whoever wrote the script obviously doesn't know any lawyers, has never been in a law firm, and has had zero exposure to the legal community. Professionals do not talk to each other the way these people talk to each other. Which makes me wonder if the writers have ever even worked in an office environment.

0/10 100% unrealistic, terrible acting Do not recommend.

It's an OK show
searchersd27 January 2023
Good enough for a season 2 renewal? Probably not. The initial idea was a great one. The follow through killed it, though. Especially bad was episode 1 - I was ready to call it quits right then but another reviewer here said to go on to episode 2 - it would get better. It did. It improved from really bad to mediocre. Subsequent episodes continued to improve but not enough.

I wasn't especially impressed with Arden Cho. Not enough spark there. I hadn't seen Dominic Sherwood since the Shadowhunters series where he spoke with an American accent and did a commendable job. Here he spoke with an accent sounding like a combo of South African and "proper" English together but with a little bit of American in there as well, even though his character (and Sherwood himself) hails from England. Aside from my being jarred whenever he spoke his lines, his acting, in my opinion, was faultless.

It seemed like the characters had so much to say - to cram so much within the span of an episode, especially noticeable in episode 1, that many of their lines were rattled off, often one character speaking the moment another finished. I think I missed half of what they were saying, but I think I got the gist of it.

The legal action was interesting. Not that I am familiar with the goings on in a law practice, but that part seemed believable and well presented.

As far as race and sexual identity, the show throws in some lessons for us here. Necessary? Maybe, but we're really here to enjoy watching a show where all races and creeds work well together as equals, not to be educated about the prevalence of bias and hatred. We know. We see enough of it in real life.

So, Partner Track is similar to the usual Hallmark romance but it's geared more to an audience with an interest in the workings of the legal profession, in this instance corporate law.

I'm up to episode 5. I'll keep watching until the end.

I liked it
lisangelferrer23 September 2022
Not the most in-depth of stories but the eye candy was there. I liked some of the supporting characters more than the main. Arden Cho's portrayal of her character was not interesting until maybe the last 3 episodes. The actor who portrayed Z was the hottest dude on the show. I have no idea why he is a supporting character but more Desmond Chiam is needed on this show. It definitely had stereotypical characters but I look forward to hopefully better. It's not supposed to be a serious watch and almost borders on soapy but not quite. I would watch a second season to see if the character Ingrid Yun can get more interesting.

The law and u, who are u to each other?
bluemanmtl31 August 2022
I really enjoyed this show, it was wonderful to see an asian american woman lead headlining the show, glad to see more asian characters coming into shows and movies, we need more!!! I liked the other characters, at least the ones who are likeable, not the unlikable ones, though those characters were very well acted, and the story, was interesting, fun and very relatable, all of us have tried or are trying to figure out who we are and the main character and her friends are also trying to figure this out, especially in relation to their chosen profession the law. Now i have finished my review but because IMDB has decided u have to write @ least 600 characters i am adding on some filler text!
