Actor Val Kilmer has passed away. Known for several fan-favorite roles, from Doc Holliday to Batman, the actor was 65 years old.

The New York Times reported on the passing of Kilmer, with his daughter, actress Mercedes Kilmer, confirming the news. According nto his daughter, Kilmer died in Los Angeles due to pneumonia. He'd previously been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015. His subsequent health struggles had been chronicled in the documentary Val, released in 2021.

Val Edward Kilmer was born on New Year's Eve in 1959. At the age of 17, he started studying acting at Juilliard in New York. This led to his work in theater, and he made his Broadway debut in 1983 with a role in Slab Boys. He'd make his debut in film by playing teen idol Nick Rivers in the 1984 film Top Secret!, following it up with a role in tthe1985 film Real Genius.

What If...?'s third and final season received a mixed response from fans and didn't exactly conclude the animated series in a way that left people wanting more.

Interestingly, we did get a last-minute sequence showcasing all manner of Variants that failed to make the cut. Among them were a Maestro-like Hulk, Thanos-erine (the Mad Titan x Wolverine), an Ironheart Punisher, a samurai Ghost Rider, and six-armed Spider-Man.

Though Marvel Studios has yet to confirm that a new Ghost Rider will be introduced, there have been persistent rumors from a number of different sources - not to mention telling hints from Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum - that we will see the Spirit of Vengeance make his MCU debut at some point.

The flame-headed hero is expected to be a part of the Midnight Sons movie (whether this project will mark his first appearance remains to be seen), but it sounds like Marvel has bigger plans for the character beyond the planned - though still not officially announced - supernatural team-up film.

Legacy characters are nothing new in superhero releases. Some examples of this practice have been extremely successful like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Some have been less successful as was the case with ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

The next MCU projects rumored to include plenty of legacy characters are ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set for a 2026 release and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ set for a 2027 release. Keep in mind that there are already over 50 characters rumored to appear in ‘Secret Wars’ which really doesn’t help the credibility of all those vast rumors and reports.

Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez however now reports that there have been talks to include All legacy characters. This was said during his November Ama, keep in mind that Perez is highly reliable and has a solid track record when it comes to scoops and leaks.

There are few beings in the Marvel Universe more powerful than Galactus and Ghost Rider, as one is a cosmic entity older than the universe itself whose entire purpose is to consume planets, and the other is a demonic powerhouse who has yet to face anyone that poses a genuine threat to him. Therefore, the prospect of these two fighting each other is beyond exciting, and will stand as Marvels ultimate cosmic face-off.

In a release from Marvel, it was announced that J. Michael Straczynski will be writing a series of one-shots, each one featuring two unlikely Marvel characters either teaming-up or facing-off. These odd pairings include Doctor Doom and Rocket Raccoon, Captain America and Volstagg, Nick Fury and Fin Fang Foom, and Hulk and Doctor Strange, just to name a few. Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider could have been in Deadpool & Wolverine, and while I was initially upset that the cameo did not happen, I now see it as a good thing. Cage starred in two Ghost Rider movies, in 2007 and 2011. That put his second entry as the holder of the Spirit of Vengeance after the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man in 2008. Like most superhero movies of the 2000s, Cage's Ghost Rider was notably cheesy, and visual effects were not always consistent.

Still, I remember enjoying the first Ghost Rider film when it came out, though the second entry was forgettable. Years later, I can see how Cage's Ghost Rider movies are clearly not among the best live-action Marvel films out there. Due to that, I can't see the MCU ever looking at Cage's way to play its version of Johnny Blaze.

I agree with Marvel Studios' Brad Winderbaum that the best Ghost Rider to bring into the MCU would be one we've never seen in live-action before. Ghost Rider's MCU debut has been heavily rumored for quite some time, especially since Marvel Studios has been putting more emphasis on supernatural stories and characters in recent years. I've loved seeing the development of Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Agatha Harkness and more, but Ghost Rider is one of my favorite Marvel heroes, so his possible introduction has me very excited.

Avengers: Secret Wars is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling upcoming MCU projects. As the conclusion of the Multiversal Saga, it is expected to dramatically reshape the cinematic universe.

Via a press release, The Beenos Group's popular e-commerce platform Buyee revealed its statistics on the most purchased goods among its partners for the first half of 2024, spanning categories like J-pop artist releases, mobile game merch, tokusatsu merch and anime merch (aired in 2024). It was revealed that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was #1 in anime merchandise by purchasing volume, followed by Ensemble Stars in second and My Hero Academia in third place. The climactic finale of Deadpool & Wolverine saw the eponymous heroes face off against dozens of Deadpool variants, including a cowboy-inspired version voiced by Matthew McConaughey. Cowboypool, or "The Deadpool Kid" as he's better known in the comics, is exactly what you'd expect him to be, a hat-wearing, pistol-slinging Deadpool, with a gruff southern accent. The variant is inspired by classic Hollywood westerns, but an alternate design for the character would have paid homage to the greatest western hero in cinema.

The character takes heavy inspiration from classic Western actors like John Wayne, Gary Cooper, and Randolph Scott, but the most prominent inspiration for the character is undoubtedly Clint Eastwood's "Man With No Name," from Sergio Leonne's Dollars trilogy. In a newly released piece of concept art for Deadpool & Wolverine, artist Jonay Bacallado (via Instagram) revealed that Cowboypool was originally going to look a lot more like Eastwood's iconic character.

In Hayao Miyazaki's titular manga and anime film, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, audiences were introduced to a one-of-a-kind world populated with gigantic insects. Now, Studio Ghibli's official shop has partnered with Kamen Rider creature designer Takayuki Takeya to create a series of hyper-realistic, palm-sized action figures inspired by one of Nausicaa's fictional insect species.

Clint Eastwood's Preacher is a supernatural character, with hints about his ghostly nature sprinkled into the story. Pale Rider is not the only movie to riff on Shane, with various films like Logan borrowing its narrative elements.

Clint Eastwood's underrated Pale Rider took a classic Western from the 1950s and gave it a decidedly supernatural edge. Clint Eastwood's Westerns are some of the most defining of the genre, and he was one of the last major stars to make his name on "Oaters." The failure of Heaven's Gate in 1980 killed Westerns for much of the decade, with studios largely shunning them. There were exceptions, like Young Guns, but they were largely seen by producers as box office poison.

Deadpool & Wolverine featured plenty of huge Multiversal cameos, but Marvel Studios no doubt has something even bigger planned for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

It's unclear how many actors Marvel Studios will announce in advance, though we're sure plenty will be left as surprises. Now, though, at least five of those might have been revealed by so-called "scooper" @MyTimeToShineH.

They claim that Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), Chris Evans (Captain America/Human Torch), Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider), Wesley Snipes (Blade), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) have all supposedly agreed to return to the MCU for Avengers: Secret Wars. 

Over the next few years, we should likely brace ourselves for a neverending list of potential cameos to do the rounds online; some will be correct and others will simply be names thrown at the wall to see what sticks.

Halle Berry was seemingly game to reprise her X-Men role of Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine but was not approached by Ryan Reynolds.

In a new interview, Berry says she was asked by Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively if she would bring the Mistress of the Elements back to life, but she never got a formal offer.

“No,” Berry told ComicBook about being asked to reprise her superhero role.

She continued, “Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”

The latest Marvel Studios film is an homage to the superhero characters from 20th Century Fox. Deadpool & Wolverine featured cameos from Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and Wesley Snipes’ Blade. The film would’ve reunited Berry with her X-Men co-star Hugh Jackman.

Zombies and demons aren’t the only things that were considered for Deadpool & Wolverine battle sequences but didn’t make it into the finished film. There are a lot of exciting sequels on the horizon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though Marvel Studios has yet to be upfront about when they are coming, they are known to be in development. “Deadpool & Wolverine” features plenty of celebrities reprising their roles as forgotten superheroes of yesteryear. But if Ryan Reynolds had his way, the band of outcasts would have also featured Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider.

Reynolds told Collider that Cage returning as Ghost Rider was among his dream list of cameos for the multiverse film. When asked if Cage was among those he reached out to to star, Reynolds said, “Yes,” and added, “Came to a conversation for sure. Yeah, but no.”

Collider recently sat down with Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy to talk spoilers and started by asking the duo whether the movie will get an extended cut a la Deadpool 2.

"This is the cut of the movie. There will be no extended cut because this is the cut that we wanted," Levy stated before the actor chimed in to joke, "I had to ask Shawn about doing a Snyder Cut, and he didn’t seem to feel like that was appropriate or warranted."

While the door is closed on the "Levy Cut," the filmmaker promises, "There are, however, a small handful of deleted scenes which will be included, as well as a commentary by Ryan and I and a really good gag reel."

Several surprise returns were seen in Deadpool & Wolverine, though there were a few notable characters from past Marvel movies who didn't come back for a special cameo. Among them was Nicolas Cage, prompting some fans to cry foul when the actor's version of Ghost Rider did not show up in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Per Collider, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds shared how the cameo was actually discussed behind the scenes. Oddly, Reynolds stayed mostly quiet about the potential cameo beyond confirming that it was in the cards as a possibilityj. He did not explain why it didn't happen, holding back on saying whether Cage turned it down or if it was for creative reasons.
