Not too bad for a low budget movie
katcarajenncy30 June 2023
Is the acting the greatest? No. What makes this movie interesting is the story, the idea itself. That kind of saves the whole movie. It is an interesting story: resurrection... What would happen to the world, if we really could resurrect people... This movie made me think about that. How would people react to it? How would the world look like? And like the movie itself discusses too: Who would be entitled to it? So yes, I do think the movie is worth a watch for the story. And this new concept of making movies with online cameras/Facetime only, I find interesting too. This type of content becomes more popular. Seen worse. The acting isn't the greatest, but overall worth a watch if you find the storyline itself intriguing then you won't be too bored.

Makes For A Nice Double Feature With Infinity Pool.
meddlecore28 June 2023
I really enjoyed this.

The whole film takes place in the digital sphere...from facetime calls, to webcam chats, and even the metaverse.

With the plot revolving around the Vatican discovering how to resurrect people.

Not clone them...but actually resurrect them...with their memories of dying intact.

Hence, we find ourselves following things from the perspective of the father of the first resurrectee.

A young child that was killed in a car crash, with his father at the helm.

The father survives the ordeal, but his son does not.

Leading the boy's mother to cut him off from contact with his son, after the Vatican steps in to resurrect the boy.

An act which makes them both celebrities, of sorts.

The father, as a newly ordained Catholic priest, who is tasked with counseling new resurrectees- so as to help them readjust to life back on Earth.

And the son, as the face (and spokesperson) of this new class of resurrectees.

However...things start to take a dark turn, when one of his parishioners kills a number of his co-workers in a workplace massacre.

One act, among a trend, that has been turning "One Lifers" against the "R. P.s", as mob mentality starts to set in, in wake of the killings.

Thus, the whole thing ends up being a reflection of the philosophical debate surrounding the potential threats that advancements in the world of AI might bring about.

Spun in with speculation that those murdered by the RPs, will, themselves, be resurrected...only to act in the same manner.

Therefore creating a cascade effect, akin to a zombie apocalypse.

Which makes the film a sort of combination between Caviar and Infinity Pool (to compare it to other recent horror films, from this year).

Or, at least, a middle ground, between the two.

Which is actually pretty clever, if you think about it.

Because this film is, interestingly, oriented around a similar- yet, opposite- philosophical conundrum, compared to the one we find in Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool.

In that, like in Cronenberg's film, death becomes meaningless.

Only, here, we are presented with a situation where, if the death of another no longer has philosophical meaning, what stops those who have lived through such an ordeal, from acting out in a depraved manner, to put others through the same experience they have gone through.

So as to offer them perspective, on what it's like to be a resurrectee.

Which has the same effect as not having to answer for the capital crimes you've committed, like we see in Infinity Pool...only, in the opposite way.

The two actually quite compliment each other...as they form a sort of unity of opposites.

While, the whole thing spirals into a bizarre conspiracy, like we see in Caviar.

Albeit, one much more coherent than we see in that film.

Despite the fact that they share stylistic similarities.

In the end, considering what it is- in regards to it's plot structure, and general construction- it's impressively engaging.

Simple, yet effective.

Which goes to show just what you can do with a little imagination, some decent writing, and solid performances from the cast.

I admit, I found this to be quite a fresh and entertaining story.

Even though it's structure is rather simplistic.

So give it a shot.

Because it's definitely worth a watch.

5.5 out of 10.

Warning: Spoilers
The Martins are an idea family, posting family updates and achievements online. Stan (Dave Davis) was driving his son (Beau Boyd) home back from baseball when a car accident killed his son. His wife Audrey (Karli Hall) blames him and they separate. The Catholic Church contacts Audrey and through a ceremony in a secret Vatican chamber, their son Nicholas is brought back to life. Years later, Stan is a priest and does counseling for people who has been resurrected. When one of the people he is counseling (Michael Villar) goes on a killing spree, he begins to question what has happened and discovers other Resurrected People (RP) have done the same thing and it is all being covered up.

The movie takes place mostly in front of a computer. It is people watching events and chatting online. I am not a fan of these type of films. If you want to make a movie, make a movie. If I want to watch my computer, I will watch my computer, not yours. I am guessing there is some modern metaphor in all of this. If there is one, it was poorly done.

When will it be enough?
prasomedesign-6719813 November 2023
I had to waste almost 2 hours of my life in order to write my first review. I am totally convinced that the riches of this world are poorly distributed... this movie is an example of that.

Many people with financial resources to make ANY kind of films but they provide absolutely nothing of quality and vice versa. The Found Footage genre has become a tawdry mockery. After The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity I, there is nothing else.

All these filmmakers simply take the structure of these two and change the plot... that's all. They all have the same beginning, middle and end. A truly waste of resources.

So many people with good stories and they can't carry them out. It's very sad.

Surprisingly well-crafted webcam movie with good tiwsts and questions posed
rust3710 June 2023
Yes, it is a webcam- and chat-based movie. Which makes me wonder how well packed it is with action, that keeps you edge-seated. One third of the time are action scenes, shot again on webcams of all kinds.

Poster on IMDB page contains the poorest possible screenshot from the movie, please just disregard it. You may have your answer why this exact 3D is so rubbish when you watch the movie.

Key strength is a script. It's hard not to give away any detail, let's say the story contains ethical questions around religion, conspiracy theory, and several solid twists. Couple of gory scenes. No horror at all to my personal standards. Performances are better than one would expect.

My only criticism would be around final scenes, when it all breaks loose.. those could have been more.. spectacular, but I believe this is owing to budget limitations only.

Btw, don't skip final titles, the story is continued there.

One of the best found-footage movies I've ever seen.
budyll4 July 2023
The overall plot of this movie is quite absurd to say the least, but me and my partner had a lot of fun watching it because of it.

All the people who mentioned "bad acting" in their reviews must have been watching a completely different movie than me. The acting was really solid from all of the actors. It was far better than in most of such movies.

It was also fun seeing that the director wasn't afraid to make a movie that openly criticizes the Catholic church and the way that a lot of people perceive it, so as nothing more than a huge criminal organisation hiding in plain sight.

If you like the found footage genre, you'll definitely like this movie. My partner loves this genre and even she said that it's one of the best ones she ever watched!

There is a lot to like.
Patient44424 July 2023
I'm going to start by saying that I wasn't the biggest fan of this type of movies, ever since I saw Unsane, it just didn't feel right to me.

With time tho, came Unfriended, Searching, Ressurected and little by little I came to appreciate this new way of filming. It's different but it's different good, and I felt like I should give it a proper chance.

Now that movies like Resurrected are part of the new norm, I think they deserve respect for the fact that they use very small budgets in order to happen. So from in the woods movies, or zombie ones, we now have in face of the PC films that deliver a lot on tension, plot, mystery, but of course lack aspects like horror or true jump scares...at least for now.

Resurrected kept me interested from its start to the very end, I have to admit that the plot comes out as, well original really, a new subject, a great approach to it, without revealing too much about the technique involved, leaving the viewer to roam his imagination free. The plot here is the monster in other horrors, like Jaw, Cloverfield, where they get very little screen time, but once you see them...it's more than enough.

So all in all, Resurrected was a fun surprise, I liked it a lot, I tried to connect all the dots and see where this one is heading. Definitely recommended, has a lot of strong points.

Cheers!

Bad acting all through
aurea-628 June 2023
The main character is so unlikable, there is no chemistry between the family.

I don't want to spoil anything in case someone reading this wants to check this movie out...just to let you know it will be really hard to get into the story with such unnatural dialogue, force interactions and non sense.

I don't know...it was a good concept with a real bad execution...the screen camera set up...tiresome after the first 15 minutes, everything feels clean cut and stereotyped.

Acknowledging the fact that making a movie is an achievement, and much respect for accomplished it, and let this be a learning experience.

Underrated and Hidden Gem
jmbwithcats10 July 2023
I was really surprised to see how good this movie turned out to be, seeing as it is so lowly considered here on IMDB.

The movie deserves a much higher rating being that it has such an original story, solid writing, acting, pacing, and follow-through from beginning to end.

Joe Rechtman does a fantastic job, and it's enjoyable from beginning to end.

I found the immediate premise interesting and something significant to most people, which is what happens after death, and what could happen if we were able to resurrect, and all the complexities that go along with it.

The pitfalls, the power, the problems, and the promise of second chances.

Seems like the pilot episode to a TV show, rather than a whole movie
gunn-wrights1 July 2023
This film does nothing but set the stage for a good movie. Maybe they'll make a part 2 and explain any of this mess (doubtful, with the ratings of this movie). I've never walked out of a movie with more questions, and zero answers, than this. Here's a few:

  • What's the FBI's involvement? And/or local police?

  • What does that have to do with the Vatican?

  • How are they resurrecting people?

  • What is the importance of Bishop Hill? He seems shady. Why is he hanging around the Martin family so much? No idea - no answers???

>> Just from Father Flynn's call:
  • "Priest, are you one of them? Do you know WHAT THEY are planning?" (I still don't have an answer to 'what' and 'they' are referring to!)
  • "The frequencies have mutated, don't you understand?" (NO, and it's never explained?)
  • "The 'Hughanauts' (sp?) tried to warn us." (Never even mentioned again in the movie)
  • "You can't stop the 'WARRIORS' you fool... ...they're multiplying, soon they'll be everywhere... ...they're coming for me ... too late, they're INSIDE me now." (Meaning = not a person in the house, but something INSIDE of him. What got into him?? I'll never know?)

This call made the whole thing sound supernatural. But, the ending just seems to refer to a webpage on the dark web, meaning real people? (I won't add spoilers) So confusing!

RECOMMENDATION: Skip it! Unless you like watching movies that confuse you, only to leave you hanging with zero answers!

Surprisingly well done
LilysHammer29 September 2023
Ghost Pirate recommended this movie and mentioned it was filmed under what seemed like pandemic protocols, relying heavily on FaceTime, computers, and phone footage. Given the storyline, I was not sure they could pull it off under those constraints; but I honestly feel like they did. The use of FaceTime didn't seem forced, but rather like it was part of this heavily internet -reliant dystopian world where the film takes place. Was the movie perfect? No, but I think it did a great job. Some movies have great acting but poor script, great editing and terrible storyline, but this movie seems to be pretty solid on all metrics.

Brilliant hidden Gem!! Leaves a lot to think home about
lesquinox7 July 2023
A lot of themes thought about in movies end up manifesting in real lives as well a lot of times (as like the pandemic), and seeing where the world is heading, this movies does force you to introspect on a lot of themes like religious fanaticism, misuse of science through religious propaganda, cults, faith, 1984, . Pray that this does not turn into such movies that turn into reality. Truly a masterpiece that has much to learn from on the consequences of blind faith and our progressive society as a whole. Liked the fact that it's more like a found footage and not one of those anamorphic types to provide some sense of realism, the acting was good.

Great little movie. A good thriller mystery and thought provoking.
Dubdub197429 June 2023
I'm not a fan of horror so I went into this kind of wary due to it being classified as "horror" and it being called "Resurrected". Turns out this is misclassified. It's not horror, it's a thriller mystery ("who dunnit? What's going on?) with elements of sci-fi (scifi due to the literal resurrection bit).

The format is different: you see it all through the viewpoint of facetime, webcams, youtube videos and cctv. It's very effective, sleek and well done, just like the movie "Searching" but better dues to the variety of mediums used. In some ways it makes you "part of the story".

In this age of AI, video calls, virtual reality and cloning capabilities growing at a rather frightening pace, this movie is very relevant in a lot of ways. Asking some very interesting "what if" questions and a lot of interesting ethical questions too. Add the Catholic church into the mix and you have a really great thought provoking piece.

The first 10 min you're like "meh this looks cheap, the acting is terrible, I know already what's going to happen". I'm really happy I stuck it out for 15 minutes or so because after that you are in for a rollercoaster! The lead actor is horrible in the 1st 10 min not because he's a terrible actor but because his character is horrible. But just wait 15 min like I said. I was very positively surprised. His character arch is very interesting and not a fake "hero's journey" either, a very human one. The teenage son has zero afect, but guys, by the end of the movie you understand why! The Bishop is great and from start to finish you don't know if he is good or evil. Not everything is black and white in this movie.

I'm not sure why some are rating it so low. I suspect they gave up during the first 15 min and maybe just skipped around afterwards if anything. Don't. The layers of this story are presented in order for a reason.

In normal times I would give it a solid 7, 7.5. But I'm putting it at 9 in the hopes of bringing the average slightly up and encouraging others to watch it. T

his is a great B movie like we used to have in the 90s and early 2000s. It's a pity we don't have more of those. Do watch it if you want a good thriller mystery "who dunnit? What is going on?".

Definitely in my top 10 of 2023 so far
horrorhomo2 July 2023
I watch A LOT of movies (at least 4 week) and I saw the trailer for Resurrected and decided to rent it. I was blown away!! Ended up watching it 3 more times before my rental was over!

The movie is what happens when the Vatican figures out how to resurrect people that have died by accident or illness and what happens to them once they are brought back. I can't tell much more without spoilers but things don't go as planned and the movie takes a dark turn. Shot similarly to The Den this would fall into the laptop horror/found footage category but it's pretty unique.

The acting is great for such a low budget movie and the casting of Ezra Buzzington as the Father Hill and Dave Davis as Father Martin are stand outs in the cast. But really the whole cast does a great job!

Egor Baranov did an awesome job keeping the story flowing and getting the best performances out of the cast. The writer Joe Rechtman did a great job as well creating a tight story that doesn't waste your time and keeps you guessing til the end.

I enjoyed it even though it's rough around the edges
ansonsat-6849025 July 2023
I admit I was skeptical at first but the beginning had me gripped all the way until the end. I enjoyed it and the premise of the movie was unique. I don't think I have seen other movies with this topic. Of course, this is a lower budget movie so the quality is no Oscar contender but for me, it didn't disappoint. The length of the movie is short but with that was happening, it felt longer. And, the effects were pretty realistic (also given the budget, it's pretty good). The acting could be more intense. Maybe the actors or director held back a bit to avoid being melodramatic but for what happens in the movie, I think one would react with great emotion. All in all, it's an enjoyable movie to watch.

Surprisingly Good
moorek27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This sort of caught my eye on Netflix but from the start it caught my attention and pulled me in.

ACTING. Overall I enjoyed the acting. I'm not sure why some people don't like it but many of these people feel like real people and not in a movie. The main character is a little inconsistent but still overall is not bad. The boy who played the son at the beginning was very good. The actor who played him when older was more aloof but we could assume that was part of the resurrection process. The coldness of the ex-wife to the husband is so perfect for good reason. I really enjoyed the acting of the actress who played the hacker.

DIALOGUE. Much of the dialogue feels like normal conversation. The kinds of things people really say and not scripted.

PLOT. I found many elements of the storyline unique or unusual You're never sure if it's going to go in a certain way or not. Maybe become full blown horror or paranormal but doesn't do anything. I found the movie tense from start to finish.

SUBTILTY and PACING. At times things that happened without being telegraphed or were in the background. Some examples: *It was a little jarring to see the father go from being a bearded recluse in a motel room to being a priest but we really didn't need to see his redemption.

*At one point in the movie he just says he stole a phone but we didn't need to see him steal the phone.

*He escapes his apartment without any need for a big chase or even exposition of the police finding the FBI body *At the end he's blamed for the murder of many as the church continues to cover up the problem.

*The use of mobile cameras allowed for many casual everyday things that we might miss in other movies - even things like moving the liquor bottle to the side.

FORMAT. The whole movie is made using mobile or CCTV cameras and I think it was done very well. Unlike many found footage movies, the majority of the images in this movie were clear.

NEGATIVES. There are not many things I found negative about the film. Some were very minor: *I'd have liked to have known how the process worked but that really wasn't the point of the story.

*While much was not telegraphed, a few things were (FBI agent, wafer) but not too serious. At the same time, prior to the FBI agent, there had been two other times when we thought it was being set up and nothing happened.

*An obvious plot element considering over a billion people had been resurrected - how did those in the cult know which ones had already been resurrected or not. If you're shooting someone at a distance or hitting them with your car then you could be killing one of your own.

*The speed and clarity that others did not believe the hacker when she was putting in her messages under the FBI's handle. There might need have been some password or phrasing to make that kind of statement but we'll never know.

*The story is in the USA but some of the mass murders are in other countries. The FBI would not be involved in those. Do we assume all the intelligence forces around the world have been infiltrated so that no one finds their way to the dark web website?

Overall it is a movie that I would recommend to most people I know.

It is an arts, is not what you watching
henrywoo-9632725 July 2023
This movie did very good at expression in messaging and camera way like real life.... The story was a roller coaster, it put you down 1st and bring you to highest point and feeling of urges... And then push you down again... The story line also not what we think, it is totally different and different from what we think... It is a wow.

The director also shown his brave to use religion to describe humans sins. Actually no specific one who is the bad guy in this movie, because everyone with sins who is the bad guy in the end. And the story message also shown sins really dangerous. Don't mess with the sins and keep faithful. That's why the Pope keep ask to keep our faith. Anyone can be become sinsful whether resurrected or not. This movie is about our sins. I guess this is the message I get.

To not spoil the movie, You need to go check out yourself then you know what I'm saying. Definitely worth a watch.

The only thing missing was
JonathanLondon31 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The true Hebrew Isrealites, a royal chosen priesthood challenging the validity and authority of the Vatican's priests and being vindicated as the true kings and hierarchy which will lead his kingdom after the world's gentile priests are exposed as liars, deceivers, killers and stealers. I think that would make for the appropriate sequel according to a true prophetic understanding and Christian discernment, that of Judah, not of the world. I think as an opening film for this type of content as a Christian prophetic leader myself who has ushered in a tribulation period in exposing those who are hypocrites and enslaved to a lessor design of pride that it is great and excited to see the next one which will appeal to those who have escaped a fallen world in gentile-Jezebel pride under the authority of Judah's hated and slandered kings.

Hilarious
lordchristoph-108713 July 2023
This had me laughing out loud. The violence is pretty extreme but makes sense in context and it's really a black comedy but very well thought out. The way it is put together with face time and shared screens and a bit of hacking and dark web stuff is really well done. The plot is surreal and there is no real attempt at explaining exactly what is going on but that contributes to the general sense of chaos. Could have been one of those heavy-handed doom-laden flicks about the hidden evil of the Catholic Church etc. Etc. But it kept a light touch throughout and the sinister priests are entertaining too.
