- Battle of the Year attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven't won in fifteen years. Dante enlists Blake to assemble a team of the best dancers and bring the Trophy back to America where it started.
- The producer Dante Graham promotes a group of b-boys expecting to bring the Battle of the Year Trophy back to the USA that have not won it in fifteen years. He hires his friend and former basketball coach Jason Blake that grieves the loss of his wife and son to prepare his team. Blake fires the whole team since they do not have motivation and decides to select a new group of dancers under the nickname of Dream Team. He also hires the youngster Franklyn and the choreographer of break-dance Stacy to help him. Along the months, Blake tries to implement teamwork and works hard with the group. In the competition in France, he has a great surprise.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- For break-dancers, winning the Battle of the Year is like taking the gold medal in the Olympics. Though the competition originated in the U.S., no American has taken the top prize in the past 15 years. A former b-boy with his eyes on the prize, L.A. hip-hop icon Dante (Laz Alonso) is determined to change that. But it's not going to be easy. In order to get the job done, Dante recruits his old friend Blake (Holloway) to help form a b-boy troupe comprised of the best dancers in the country. Having previously coached a basketball team to victory before falling on hard times, Blake knows a thing or two about winning. But with the competition just three weeks away, they'll need a small miracle to reclaim the Battle of the Year for their country. Undaunted, Dante and Blake prepare to dazzle the judges with the kind of moves that will prove b-boy culture is still alive and kicking in the country where it was born..
- Dante Graham (Laz Alonso) enlists Jason Blake (Josh Holloway) to coach the United States' B-boy team to compete in the Battle of the Year, as the US has not won in 15 years. B-Boy is the premier hip-hop competition globally. It is no longer considered cool by the young generation in the US, as it was something that their parents used to do. Dante runs a dance company whose whole existence is based on hip-hop. Dante risks losing his entire company if he cannot bring the fans back to the genre.
Dante says that he has an LA team, but they are missing a good coach. Blake used to be a basketball coach but needs money. Franklyn (Josh Peck) is Dante's assistant and works with Blake as his assistant coach. The Battle of the Year or BOTY takes place in France, earlier it used to be in Germany. 20 countries bring their top crew to battle for the championship. Dante tells Franklyn that back in the day Blake used to be a top hip-hop artist and had the ability to bring crews together. But then there was no money in B-Boying. When Blake got his girlfriend pregnant, he was offered the role of an assistant basketball coach at St. Marks, and he took it. A couple of years ago Blake lost his wife and child in a car accident.
Blake meets Dante's LA team, who hasn't changed their routine in 4 years. Blake tells Dante that the team has at bet 2-3 top tier B-Boys and they need to cherry pick the best talent from all over America. The only catch is that BOTY is in 3 months. Blake and Franklyn attend the Freestyle competition to select the best hip-hop talent in the country.
Blake puts together a team of the best B-boys across America A La Dream Team. The crew are Rooster (Chris Brown), Do Knock (Jon "Do Knock" Cruz), Flipz (Ivan "Flipz" Velez), Grifter (Dominic Sandoval), Sight (Steve Terada), Aces (Victor Kim), Kid (David "Kid David" Shreibman), Rebel (Jesse "Casper" Brown), Bambino (Luis "Luigi" Rosado), Sniper (Sawandi Wilson) and Abbstarr (Richard Carmelo Soto). Blake selects 22 names from Freestyle, with 13 to make it to the final Dream Team. Blake takes the selected to an abandoned juvenile center for 9 weeks of intense training. Training starts at 6 am, and the crew trains 7 days a week. Blake will eliminate one team member every week for the next 9 weeks. Rooster is the troublemaker on the team, but even without him, the team has many large egos. Do Knock and Rooster volunteer to be captains. They have a professional rivalry going as they both used to date the same girl.
Grifter is the best hip-hop on the team, but he is the first to be sent home as he is not a team player and is only dancing for himself. Every time someone said "I", the whole team had to do 100 push-ups. Dante is not happy with Blake's methods, but Franklyn stands up for Blake and says that his methods are working.
The team faces the Russians in an exhibition match in 6 weeks. Franklyn brings in Stacy (Caity Lotz) as a choreographer. Lil Adonis is gay, and this is also a source of tension in the crew, along with Rooster and Do Knock coming to blows on the subject of their common ex.
At the exhibition match, the Russians just took the game to a whole new level of dance performance and the Dream Team had no answers. As a result, the team abandoned their routines and started going into 1:1 battle. Rooster was the worst offender. The Russians win hands down. The team comes together to criticize both Do Knock and Rooster for their attitude. Rooster's best friend Anis makes them realize that their rivalry is hurting the team. Do Knock reaches out to Rooster and says that he wants to win and wants to bury their differences. Rooster and Do Knock make peace and the team hits training with enhanced vigor.
Flipz was going out of camp on many nights, breaking the rules. One night, Blake sees him leaving and follows him. Turns out Flipz had a baby girl and a wife who were living in a motel. He did not want to leave them in New York and brought them with him to California, so he could be close to them. Blake confronts him, but Flipz convinces him not to kick him off the team. Bambino is the last person to be cut from the team and the final 13 have been selected.
Performing a new demonstration move for Dante, Rooster breaks his ankle. He has no option but to return home. Bambino is brought back into the team as replacement. The team reaches Montpellier in France, for the 22nd World B-Boy Championship. On a day out, some local punks try to pick on Lil Adonis and Sniper defends him. When the locals start a fight, Sniper hits back, but the tournament organizers disqualify him. The whole team rallies behind Sniper and says that if he goes home, they will all go home. Blake likes the team spirit and gets Sniper reinstated to the competition.
After overcoming their differences and learning to work as a team, the Dream Team steps up the stage. However, they are hated by the crowd after the incident with Sniper. The team comes together for a superlative performance that wins over the crowd. The Dream Team makes it to the semi-finals (which has only the top 4 teams), beats the reigning champion French team and finds themselves against the favorites, the Koreans, in the finals.
Ultimately, they lose by one point. Blake resolves to resume training as soon as possible to win next year.
