A Satisfying Conclusion to this Sweet Romance
talking_about_movies5 January 2023
This show will hold a special place in my memory. Because it went from just some repetitive teasing gimmicks in the 1st season, to actually a very sweet and character-based romance by the 3rd season. It's one of those shows that has a very slow build up to the story and very slow progression in the characters. But that actually works because it's very much worth it in the end.

This movie is just made to give the audience what they want. I'm assuming that this is probably the conclusion to the series and it's a very sweet one. Most of this movie is just Takagi and Nishikata hanging out and you can just feel how far their relationship has come. Nishikata is more used to the teasing and more considerate of takagi's feelings. Takagi is a bit more honest and gentle towards Nishikata. And most importantly, both of them are more true to their own feelings.

One of the things I really admire in this show is Takagi's character. At first I never really understood her and frankly found her a bit unfair and annoying. But as this series went on I just understood her character more and more as there are very rare hints to why she acts the way she does and what teasing Nishikata actually means to her. And by the end she was my favourite character. And this movie just went on to confirm that, and gave a very satisfying arc to her relationship with Nishikata.

I do think that this movie has some plot points and sequences that feel out of place and disjoint from the show and the story.

But overall I liked this movie and it just made me admire this story more.

I loved the movie but..

Warning: Spoilers
The movie is great good animations and all, but it's just too small and rushed it really felt that they just wanted to finish the series as fast as they can.. I really was expecting more, at least it should have been a 2 hour movie or a continuation of the third season because when i was started to get in the mood *puff* movie is over.

It really just makes me sad seeing a series that i loved so much finishing like this.. at least they fulfilled their purpose.. Maybe i should go and watch the manga to see if there's something more to it, also don't miss out after the credits!!😭 Dam so it's really over..

The Defining Point In Nishikata and Takagi's Journey
macaraegjordanrafael23 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
All of my adoration for the manga and its fanmade-turned-canon sequel manga, the three seasons, the OVA, and this movie corroborate the theme of genuine and pure childhood love.

Any hardcore Karakai Jouzu No Takagi-San fan knows that this story is the definitive point finally concluding the journey that is about Nishikata and Takagi's love for one another.

With the aforementioned noted, this movie encourages the viewer to watch this movie as an extension of the third season, since the timeframe for this movie is set only weeks, or maybe a month from the last episode (if I recall correctly). Inside the contents of this movie feature resounding elements of teasing and the goodness of heart you see in the shenanigans between Takagi and Nishikata. Those moments are bountiful in this movie and are spaced between each other quite well.

When you're catching jokes, you are also catching scenes that will cause tearjerkers. That plot telling device of emotional storytelling brings a lot of immersion into this movie, and to my friend who watched it with me who has never watched the show or read the manga, says, "The camera (means "cinematography") makes the movie so immersive, as if I'm there watching these two kids." The comment is questionable, but the sentiment is innocent and I didn't overlook what my friend meant to say:

The artwork and animation for this movie are not spectacular to qualify as award winning, but the animation studio that has been there from Day one of the anime made so many beautiful illustrations to create an excellent and memorable slice of life and romance movie.

The progression in the movie is really clean; its pacing, the dialogue, the consequences, all of it intertwines into a reality check that signifies that everyone is growing up.

There are specific scenes that present the theme of inevitable growth, which includes every kind of perspective any person can bring themselves to. One may feel sorrow that their friends may break apart, or be completely opposite with that friend's feelings and be highly passionate about their own life. There are many more emotions tied to each character and I loved that especially in this movie, because the characters are presented to express more human qualities just as they did in the show.

The sound and music design for the movie is the best of its entire showtime. For a conclusion to the anime, this movie sets itself up through music, and its a reoccurring detail prevalent in the anime itself. This masterful job impressed my friend who never really listened to musical details in the many movies they watched. The music available on Spotify are just few of the many instrumentals that are so captivating to listen to and enjoy the movie with.

The sounds and music themselves almost feel like characters; etching the plot progression and emotional development in both subtle and straightforward ways. I could hear chatter about how the music score is so well done, and I couldn't agree more.

For the manga lovers, this spoiler goes out to you:

Hearing Chi the first time was so special, the theater I was in were crying out her name. One of us said for everyone to stay in the movie during the credits, and I would like to thank them for that.

Then, we hear adult Nishikata and Takagi. Can you imagine the cheers? This movie is made for the fans, and every aspect of the movie is perfect for them.

Knowing that Chi is the creation done by a fan, that the mangaka behind Karakai Jouzu No Takagi San interacted with the fan and made that person's sequel canon still blows my mind to this day. When I saw Chi animated for the second time ever, I had chills around my entire body. I still do as I type this down. The direction of this movie respects all the elements of what makes Karakai Jouzu No Takagi San a cutesy modern winner in today's anime movies (2022).

For the nitty gritty fans that want to know if there is expected impact from the elements in the movie that I made thoughts and comments about, just note that there are no exaggerated details. My friend did not enjoy the movie as well as I did, but they acknowledged the movie as a really great movie for slice of life and romance fans. They stated that if they preferred this genre of anime, they'd for sure enjoy it just as much as the hardcore fans did.

To you, this review is created by one of the happiest fans of this anime. To think, it would come out one day after my birthday (August 12th, the movie came out August 13th in the US), makes this review a lot more personal to me.

I am growing up, and so is everyone else. Take care!

A heart-warming journey of smiles, laughs, and tears
newmeegeeluigi15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I rarely ever actually write reviews for films, unless if it actually holds some place in the back of my mind, "Teasing Master Takagi-San: The Movie" is a big example of a simple story of love that goes a long way. I have been a really big fan of the anime, such an easy series to be invested in with very likeable characters and great moments of comedy. When I heard that the movie was playing at a theater near me I was ecstatic and immediately bought tickets. One thing that is genuinely admirable about this movie is how it really feels like a theatrical version of the anime instead of a longer version of an episode, the animation has gotten a huge upgrade with better shading, panning shots, and more detailed backgrounds. The story itself is very much run of the mill, but that's what I love about it, it's not some complex adventure that goes way too absurd to the point where it doesn't even recognize the anime, it is simply an adorable story of Takagi and Nishikata experiencing their final days of middle school before summer vacation. The film has a few different stories much like the anime, however they all come together one way or another, the main plot features Takagi and Nishikata looking after a small kitten until someone could adopt it, not realizing how much they grown to love the cat. There is an extremely heart breaking moment of the film in which another family find the cat without Takagi's or Nishikata's knowing, they have previously gotten a collar for the kitty after Takagi's father agreed they can keep her, but the cat had already forgotten about the two when meeting with the new family, what follows is a scene of Takagi-San breaking down in tears, a very sad moment, especially considering Takagi has rarely ever shown any strong emotions other then cheerful, I won't lie when I say that the scene was the very first time I ever cried in a movie theater, it was devastating to say the least. There's also a B plot that involes the trio from the anime, Mina, Sanae, and Yukari, which involves them trying to make the most of summer after learning that Sanae-chan was thinking of moving to a different high school than the other girls to pursue her track career, I personally think this was a wonderful way to incorporate the 3 girls without making it feel like filler, something I felt kind of disappointed was how not many secondary characters had much screen time, characters such as Mano-Chan and Tanabe-Sensei barely got even a minute of it though as this was mostly a main character story I didn't mind too much, overall, this movie has good humor and emotional moments, I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the anime, I have never been more glad to see a movie in theaters before.
