‘Yellowjackets’ cast reunites for Season 3 finale and reveals which scene made one of them ‘immediately sick’
Image
Originally published April 11 at 11:20 a.m. Pt; updated April 25 at 11:30 a.m. Pt

The cast of Yellowjackets was buzzing as they hit the red carpet to celebrate the Showtime drama's Season 3 finale. An FYC screening of the episode "Full Circle" was held at the TV Academy on April 10, where enthusiastic audience members were explicitly told "No recording!" to avoid spoilers leaking to future home viewers. Now that enough time has passed, the full cast Q&a with moderator Emily Longeretta (Variety) has been made available (watch below).

The Season 3 finale reached three million viewers after seven days, up 19 percent from Season 2, according Nielsen. The show also saw a 54 percent increase in viewership when isolating for streaming alone on Paramount +. According to Paramount, the episode was the most-streamed in the series' history — and Season 3 of Yellowjackets was its most-watched overall. Yellowjackets is the second most-streamed Showtime original ever,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Finale Is the Show’s Most-Watched Episode Ever
Image
The Antler Queen's reign was fruitful. This week, Paramount+ unveiled streaming numbers from Season 3 of Yellowjackets and it looks like fans of the series were more excited than ever with it. According to the streamer, seven days after the Season 3 finale "Full Circle" dropped on the platform, it had reached 3 million viewers — a record for the thriller series. In streaming numbers alone, this represents an increase of 52% when compared to viewership numbers from the Season 2 finale. Showtime is yet to announce if the show is coming back for another season.

Paramount+ also revealed that the overall performance of Season 3 was reason for celebration: the latest season was the most watched of the series so far. Even though the streamer wasn't specific about numbers, they did indicate that their metrics are related to a seven-day window of viewership after a new episode drops. At this moment, the Christina Ricci (Wednesday) and...

Watch ‘Yellowjackets’ Showrunner Ashley Lyle Surprise Her Cast During Buzzy Season 3 Finale Q&a
Image
[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for “Yellowjackets” Season 3, Episode 10.]

“Yellowjackets” came full circle with a killer Season 3 finale on Friday, April 11 — closing the loop on questions viewers have had since the pilot aired four years ago. That same night, at Vidiots in Los Angeles, Showtime’s beloved cannibalism dramedy held an FYC event that had a line stretching down the block. Cast members Sophie Nélisse, Sophie Thatcher, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, and Samantha Hanratty were in attendance, and the screening turned away more than a hundred people.

“This was a really big emotional one for all of us, I think,” said Hewson in the IndieWire panel moderated by this writer, Alison Foreman. “The episode is called ‘Full Circle’ for a reason. It’s incredibly charged. We were all excited about it and looking forward to it, and I remember when the script landed in everybody’s inboxes, we were all just hunched over reading it.”

They continued,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Sophie Thatcher on Thrilling Final Scene: “She Is Kind of the Hero of the Story”
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

Yellowjackets needed to deliver a win, and that’s exactly what the Showtime survival saga did when it capped its third season with Sophie Thatcher screaming from the top of a mountain to the head-banging tune of Aerosmith’s “Livin’ on the Edge.”

After a deadly season that was certainly the darkest one yet from showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco, and a revelatory finale that answered not only who killed Lottie (it was Shauna’s daughter Callie, played by Sarah Desjardins) but also unmasked the long-debated identity of Pit Girl as Mari (Alexa Barajas), Yellowjackets then followed teenage Natalie, played by Thatcher, to a mountaintop after she and Misty (explaining the smile Samantha Hanratty flashed in the pilot) secretly fixed the Sat phone from the scientists and Nat made a connection with the outside world.

The fist-pumping moment puts the teenagers who have been...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Courtney Eaton Still Has Her Questions About Lottie
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

Many things came full circle in the Yellowjackets season three finale, including a premonition that Lottie had about her death.

If you ask Courtney Eaton, who plays Lottie in the Showtime survival series’ 1996-1997 teenager timeline, the duality of playing a possibly clairvoyant character who has the ability to see the future while she, as an actor, doesn’t know what the showrunners have planned down the line isn’t lost on her.

“That’s the challenge with playing Lottie. She is usually the one to see and foreshadow things, but I don’t know anything as the actor, which makes playing her really fun because I get to make choices that could be interpreted a few different ways,” Eaton tells The Hollywood Reporter of the mystery drama.

An earlier episode of Yellowjackets revealed Lottie’s death in present day as a mystery, setting up a whodunit...

How “Yellowjackets” Season 3 Brings Human Sacrifice into the Modern Age [Spoilers]
Image
Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Season 3 of Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets has always worn its cannibalism on its sleeve. The series opens with a disturbing sequence in which masked hunters chase a barefoot girl through the snowy woods then string her dead body up to butcher and eat. For two seasons, the teenage survivors of a devastating plane crash have adjusted to life in the mountains of Northern Canada, trying to placate the mysterious entity that seems to guide their collective fates. They have eaten human flesh, but only out of necessity and most deaths thus far have been accidental.

But everything changes in season three.

The premiere episode opens with a pagan ritual that kicks off a season-long arc toward intentional human sacrifice. While audiences have been mostly consumed with the action-packed ‘97 timeline and the newly revealed Antler Queen, an equally ominous plot line hides in the present day story.

Tawny Cypress and Christina Ricci Plot What’s Next on ‘Yellowjackets’
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

Yellowjackets has found a new deadly duo.

After the killing spree of season three, the Showtime series ended with a revelatory finale, titled “Full Circle,” that answered both the biggest question of the series (who is Pit Girl?) and the biggest question of the season (who killed Lottie?). Both answers also indicated that Shauna (played by Melanie Lynskey in the present and Sophie Nélisse in the past) perhaps deserves what her surviving friends are now plotting against her in present day.

The wilderness timeline revealed that the girl who savagely died in the pilot of the series is Mari (Alexa Barajas), in a hunt that was sparked by “Antler Queen” Shauna (Nélisse). And the present-day timeline in the survival saga unmasked Shauna’s teenage daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins), as the murderer of Yellowjackets survivor Lottie (Simone Kessell). In between those revelations, fellow survivor Van (Lauren Ambrose) died...

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter’s Broadway Reunion Gets Opening Date
Image
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter's next excellent adventure together has officially set its opening date, though it won't be in the world of Bill & Ted. Their previously announced Broadway rendition of Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot is now set to begin previews at the Hudson Theatre, Broadway's oldest venue, on September 13. The curtain will officially rise on this strictly limited engagement starring the longtime friends on September 28, with dates running through January 4, 2026. Announcements for the full casting and design teams are expected soon.

Directed and produced by the acclaimed Jamie Lloyd, the show is a bit more of a serious affair for the dynamic duo than the most righteous time-travelling, rock-and-roll adventures they've typically embarked on together. Godot is a theatrical touchstone around the world, premiering back in 1953 in French and subsequently being translated into many languages with its leads, Vladimir and Estragon, being played by many talented actors,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Sarah Desjardins Explains Season 3 Finale Shocker
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

After setting up a whodunit earlier in the season, the Yellowjackets finale revealed who killed Lottie Matthews. The answer was a surprising one, but not to the actor who made the fateful push.

Callie Sadecki, the teenage daughter to Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), was the one who shoved the show’s most spiritual successor of the wilderness down a flight of stairs to her death. That powerful push came after an interaction that raised more questions, even though it also provided answers, in the revelatory season three ending, “Full Circle.”

Sarah Desjardins, who plays Callie in the Showtime series’ present-day timeline, tells The Hollywood Reporter that she was sensing a Callie-Lottie face off ever since the tragic season two finale, when Callie was nearly caught in the crossfire of the adult survivors’ “hunt” that took the life of one of their own, Natalie (Juliette Lewis). “How Callie was...

Drop Director Christopher Landon Left Scream 7, But Still Found Room To Homage A Horror Legend
Image
When Christopher Landon was announced as taking over the directorial reigns of the "Scream" franchise from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gilpin of Radio Silence, it felt like the perfect passing of the torch to a person who was always meant to be at the helm of a Ghostface vs. Sidney Prescott showdown. "Some people don't know this, but one of the reasons why I was so excited to do 'Scream 7' was because I was an intern at the company that made the original 'Scream,'" he told me during an interview with Fangoria Magazine.

It was 1995, and Landon was tasked with reading a spec horror script from an at-the-time unknown writer named Kevin Williamson. It only took him a few pages of reading before he knew he had to convince his supervisor to buy it. Becoming the director of "Scream 7" was the kind of full circle career moment Hollywood loves,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Ashley Sutton Recalls Finale Scene That Made Her “Start Sobbing” & “Beautiful” Tribute To Edwin
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 finale episode ‘Full Circle’

Although the Yellowjackets newcomer’s fate doesn’t look good, Ashley Sutton’s Hannah will at least survive to see another season.

Leading up to this weekend’s Season 3 finale, the actress spoke to Deadline about getting to reveal “the most honest version” of her character in the episode, which ended with Hannah double-crossing Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) to help Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) call for rescue.

“Hannah is smart,” said Sutton. “She’s playing the game. She knows what she has to do to survive, but I think the intention is to always go home. She doesn’t want to stay out here. She’s just trying to make it another day.”

After killing her fellow captive Kodiak (Joel McHale) during a botched escape attempt and pledging her allegiance to the rising Antler Queen, Hannah sneaks away from...

‘Yellowjackets’ Unveils Its Antler Queen Once and for All — and the Answer Was Always in Front of Us
Image
Bow down, bitches. After years of speculation, “Yellowjackets” Season 3 finally unmasked the series’ “antler queen” — and despite plenty of viable candidates, the answer was hiding in plain sight.

The Season 3 finale, written by Ameni Rozsa and directed by Bart Nickerson, is titled “Full Circle” in a direct reference to its pilot parallels. After over a year in the wilderness, this episode brings the stranded Yellowjackets right up to the deadly flashback in the series premiere — and sets up the terrifying uncertainty of what’s next.

What We Know

The Wiskayok High School varsity girls soccer team crashed somewhere in the Canadian Rockies during the spring of 1996, probably somewhere around mid- or late-May based on the weather, timing with Nationals, and the freshman pouting about missing prom. They end up spending 19 months out there, which means they’re rescued not long after the midwinter madness depicted in Episodes 101 and 310.

After the...

Shauna is completely off the rails in Yellowjackets season 3 episode 10 (Finale review and ending explained)
Image
Um, wow. If you're still left reeling from last week's episode of Yellowjackets season 3 - episode 9, "How the Story Ends" - then so am I. That episode definitely felt like a season finale, but actually we had one more to go. This week's! And it certainly delivered as well. Here's our review and ending explained of season 3 episode 10, "Full Circle," on Paramount+ and Showtime. Spoilers Below.

The number of yellowjackets certainly keeps dwindling in the present, that's for sure. In the aftermath of Van's heartbreaking death, Tai is mad at Shauna and blames her for her death. Uh, yeah. Me too! I'm not sure why Tai buries her in a random spot in the woods. That didn't make sense to me.

‘Yellowjackets’ Creators Talk Shauna’s “Clear Realization” In Season 3 Finale & Potential Rescue: “Not Out Of The Woods Yet”

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 finale episode “Full Circle“

After an eventful Season 3 finale, Yellowjackets fans no doubt have plenty of questions. Did Natalie reach help? Where did Jeff and Callie go? Does Shauna have a soul?

Leading up to this week’s episode “Full Circle,” co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson spoke with Deadline about the “spiritual symmetry” of the finale, which reveals the identities of “Pit Girl” and “Antler Queen” after they were teased in the 2021 Karyn Kusama-helmed pilot.

“In terms of bringing it full circle, there is always something exciting and maybe sort of daunting, because the entirety of — a large portion at least, in terms of narrative weight of the finale, is sort of starting where we began,” said Nickerson, who directed the episode. “The show’s obviously not over, but to sort of like land back at the beginning...

‘Yellowjackets’: Pit Girl Speaks
Image
[This story contains Major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

Yellowjackets hinted to viewers with the title of its season three finale that the Showtime survival series was going to bring it all the way back to the beginning. With “Full Circle,” co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (the latter who directed the episode) made good on their promise to deliver long-awaited answers when they finally revealed the identity of “Pit Girl” to be Mari (Alexa Barajas).

The very first episode launched a mystery around which teammate would be revealed as “Pit Girl,” a nickname that has endured on Yellowjackets‘ three seasons. Somewhere between the two timelines that the show introduced was a wilderness flash-forward of a girl in a white dress running for her life, barefoot through snow, who is then impaled and eaten by her friends. The scene was filmed with stunt actors. The only Yellowjackets actor in the initial scene was Samantha Hanratty, who...

‘Yellowjackets’ Bosses on Crowning [Spoiler] the Antler Queen and Ideas for a Possible Season 4
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” titled “Full Circle,” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

It’s Mari!

The identity of Pit Girl was finally revealed in the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” when Mari (Alexa Barajas) accidentally plunged to her death into the stake-filled pit while being hunted by her soccer teammates. The episode also confirmed the true identity of the pilot episode’s Antler Queen: Turns out it was Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) all along.

In the 1990s timeline, the teen plane-crash survivors must endure another harsh winter in the Canadian wilderness, and after their primary source of meat — the farm animals — all die, the group again participates in a sacrificial ritual to survive.

Van (Liv Hewson) and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) can’t bear to lose another friend, so they rig the deck of cards to ensure that outsider Hannah (Ashley Sutton) will draw the Queen of Hearts.

‘Yellowjackets’ Bosses Explain Everything — From “Pit Girl” to All Those Deaths and What Comes Next
Image
[This story contains Major spoilers from the season three finale of Yellowjackets, “Full Circle.”]

The Yellowjackets co-creators had promised answers by the end of the season. They delivered on that with a revelatory season three finale, “Full Circle.”

The Showtime series catapulted itself into the zeitgeist when it launched in 2021 with a captivating pilot about a team of high school soccer players whose plane crashes in the middle of nowhere. The pilot weaved together two timelines with that 1996 crash and the present-day survivors, played by a beloved cast, and there was a killer flash-forward opening of an unidentified girl running for her life, barefoot through snow, who is then impaled and eaten by her friends. This girl became known as “Pit Girl” — her identity speculated about and debated on fan threads for years. Who is this poor girl and how did those teenagers arrive at a place where they hunted their friends for ritual cannibalistic feasts?

‘This is so sick!’: ‘Yellowjackets’ star Sophie Nélisse breaks down Shauna’s dark side and that twisted Season 3 finale
Image
The following interview contains spoilers from the Season 3 finale episode of Yellowjackets, titled "Full Circle."

The Season 3 finale of Yellowjackets debuted on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday and left fans with another cliffhanger — Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) calling for help from a mountaintop as Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) takes her throne as the Antler Queen. In "Full Circle," the teenage Yellowjackets decide it's time for another hunt, and Mari (Alexa Barajas) is the unlucky recipient of the queen of hearts. While attempting to flee, Mari dies by falling into the pit trap and is subsequently strung up for another feast. Meanwhile, Hannah (Ashley Sutton) tricks Shauna by dressing in Natalie's winter gear as Natalie sneaks off with the refurbished radio transponder.

In the adult timeline, Callie (Sarah Desjardins) is revealed as Lottie's (Simone Kessell) killer. After Callie and Jeff (Warren Kole) decide to spend time away from Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), the...

Yellowjackets season 4 hasn't been confirmed yet, but we desperately need it and here's why
Image
I'll be honest. The first half of Yellowjackets season 3 did not impress me at all, and I thought the show was going downhill this season. However, things started to turn around slowly, especially with the heartbreaking death of Coach Scott. It's not just that he died, but the way he suffered leading up to it. And the desperation he was in put so much pressure on Natalie to put him out of his misery.

However, the story has really picked up and it feels like we haven't been able to take a full deep breath week after week! With Melissa killing Van in episode 9, I couldn't imagine how the last episode could surprise me. But, oh it did! The question now is whether there will be more, and do we want it?

As of this writing, Yellowjackets has not been renewed or cancelled by Showtime and Paramount+. So that means...

‘Yellowjackets’ Star Melanie Lynskey on Finale Shockers, Shauna ‘Reclaiming Her Power’ and Season 3 Deaths: ‘I Wish We Had More Time’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” titled “Full Circle,” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

After more than 25 years of stewing, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) snaps — again — in the “Yellowjackets” Season 3 finale.

Following a chaotic reunion with her presumed-dead ex, Melissa (Hilary Swank), that ends with Van (Lauren Ambrose) being fatally stabbed, Shauna parts ways with Taissa (Tawny Cypress) and heads home.

But when Shauna arrives at Chez Sadecki, the house is eerily quiet. Sure enough, she discovers that her husband Jeff (Warren Kole) and daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins) have packed their things and bolted. Shauna immediately confronts Misty (Christina Ricci), suspecting she may have helped them change their phone numbers, but the bespectacled Yellowjacket denies the accusation.

That’s when the ugly truth sets in: this isn’t Misty’s latest chaotic scheme — Callie and Jeff left all on their own. Though Misty (and...

Yellowjackets' Season 3 Finale Has Unmasked The Antler Queen – And Pit Girl
Image
Major spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 3 ahead.

Now that it's over, it's fair to say that "Yellowjackets" season 3 rose above the early criticisms. The first half of the season dragged its heels and got dragged in turn by some critics. More than a few fans suspected the writers had lost the plot. But then episode 6 "Thanksgiving (Canada)" got the ball rolling with a new conflict: hikers stumbled on the girls, giving them the chance of rescue. That fractured the team further between those who wanted to go home and those who felt at home in the Wilderness.

The slam-dunk season finale, "Full Circle," even rectified some of the problems with Lottie's (Simone Kessell) death earlier this season, giving her a proper final scene and conclusion with Callie (Sarah Desjardins). And "Full Circle" gave us more answers than just those regarding Lottie's death.

"Yellowjackets" has finally started opening the mystery boxes it set.

‘Yellowjackets’ Pit Girl Actress Talks Filming “Full Circle Moment” From Pilot & When She Knew It Was Her: “I Did Have A Hunch”
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 finale episode ‘Full Circle’

Nearly six years in the making, one of Yellowjackets‘ most anticipated scenes finally came to fruition on this week’s Season 3 finale episode.

After a faceless brunette was teased as a victim of the cannibalistic soccer team’s “hunt” in the beginning of the 2021 Karyn Kusama-directed pilot episode, Mari actress Alexa Barajas told Deadline she’s long “had a feeling” her character would be revealed as the infamous ‘Pit Girl’.

“I didn’t always know, but I did have a hunch,” said Barajas. “I think after watching the pilot, I saw this girl running in the woods, and I said, ‘I think I look a whole lot like her.’ So, I had a feeling that that this was where it was gonna all end up, and I am so excited that we finally got to do it.

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Episode 10 Recap: Did Callie Kill Lottie?
Image
The final episode of Yellowjackets season 3 features loads of big reveals in both timelines. It also gives us the answers we’ve been looking for since season 1—who is Antler Queen? Who is Pit Girl? Two major questions we’ve had for a really long time, and then, of course, more recently, what happened with Lottie, and who killed her? But this is not to say that we have nothing to look forward to; we still don’t know where the heck Walter came from and what his deal is. There are some new doors opening here with the whole Callie situation (we’ll get to it in a bit), and then, of course, there’s Melissa, who was basically around for all of 5 minutes, even though she made a huge impact. The episode is titled “Full Circle,” and I think this is in reference to Shauna and Mari in particular,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Director on How Those Season 3 Deaths Lead to a Revelatory Finale
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the penultimate episode of season three of Yellowjackets, “How the Story Ends.”]

Yellowjackets season three has not been for the faint of heart. This season of the hit Showtime series went on a killing spree, both out in the wilderness during the 1996 timeline, as well as in present day with the adult survivors of a plane crash that stranded them for 19 months when they were teenagers.

The most unexpected deaths came in episode four, when Simone Kessell’s Adult Lottie was mysteriously found dead at the bottom of a familiar looking staircase (seen in a vision by Lottie in season one), and in the penultimate episode when Lauren Ambrose’s Van was fatally stabbed in the heart by Adult Melissa (played by guest star Hilary Swank). The finale, which is titled “Full Circle” (written by Ameni Rozsa and directed by co-creator Bart Nickerson), will deliver the long-awaited answer around who killed Lottie Matthews, and viewers will see...

‘Yellowjackets’ Creator Teases Season 3 Finale & Reveals A “Concept” For How They Want Series To End – Contenders TV
Image
Yellowjackets joined Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event with a panel featuring the show’s creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and stars Christina Ricci and Melanie Lynskey.

With each season of Showtime’s psychological drama unraveling more of the story, going into Season 3 had writer and EP Lyle feeling a certain way.

“I always feel like I’m sh*tting my pants,” she said about taking on each season of the show. “It’s terrifying, but it’s a really exciting challenge, and luckily, the design of the show and the concept of the show was such that we knew each season would get crazier and more chaotic and more violent and deranged. We at least had that going into it. Everything that happens this season in terms of the downward spiral of all these women, and their younger selves, was something that we had thought of from the very beginning.

‘Black Bag’ Director Steven Soderbergh Wants Hollywood to Put More ‘Movies for Grown-Ups’ in Theaters
Image
Steven Soderbergh almost didn’t make “Black Bag.”

When he and “Jurassic Park” writer David Koepp first began collaborating, Koepp brought Soderbergh a handful of ideas. One of those was “Black Bag.” Soderbergh didn’t spark to the concept, instead choosing to focus on “Presence,” a ghost story that premiered at Sundance in 2024 and was released by Neon earlier this year.

Soderbergh said that he still encouraged Koepp to write it. “It was more of a case of, Dude, just write it. My immediate interest was more in seeing him get it done than it being something that I could then direct,” Soderbergh told TheWrap during a wide-ranging interview that touched on everything from the making of “Black Bag” to the difficulty of getting adult dramas in theaters to why he’s not directing the next “Ocean’s” movie.

When the screenwriter finally did write “Black Bag” and sent it to Soderbergh,...

“It’s a little difficult for my wife”: Brian Cox Was Playing With Fire in ‘Succession’ That Revealed the Dark Side of the Biggest Media Mogul Family in History
Image
Fans of the HBO series Succession will be well aware that the show is loosely based on the Murdoch family and their power struggles over their media empire. The show’s depiction of a family patriarch’s death and the chaos that ensues has inspired real-life discussions among Murdoch’s children.

Succession (2018-23) | Credits: HBO

Succession takes inspiration from a number of real-life families in its storytelling about the warring children of a media dynasty. This, even led to an awkward moment between Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy on the show, and an actual member of the Murdoch family.

Brian Cox ran into Keith Tyson, husband of Elisabeth Murdoch

‘The Pitt’ Review: A Competent ‘E.R.’ Clone That Runs Contra to TV’s Content Era — Yet Still Fits Right in
Image
The thing that’s always rankled me (and plenty more TV fans) about our ongoing “content” era — when streamers desperately try to fill their services with more original shows and movies than anyone could possibly watch, with less and less importance placed on those shows and movies being good — is that for all their fretting over low churn rates and stuffed release calendars, no one wants to make traditional TV seasons anymore. I mean, come on. If all you really care about is keeping subscribers from canceling their subscriptions every quarter, why not make two hit series with 22 episodes per season instead of six hit series with eight episodes per season? Isn’t it easier to keep people hooked on one show vs. three shows? Isn’t it simpler to produce TV the way TV has always been produced? Isn’t there a clear and obvious market for something that...
