Don't understand why it's not more popular

Warning: Spoilers
I only wanted to watch it because of my favorite actor Yoon shi yoon ,but the drama pleasantly surprised me. It's very relatable to me because I've been through something similar like Dong Shik, constant failure and low self esteem. This really was a confidence booster for me. The actors did a fantastic job too,and shi yoon as always was incredible, really showed his character's growth so realistically. Now I know K drama fans these days prefer more fancy shallow storyline and flashy sets, but I think this deserved so much more. If you're contemplating to watch it di it!

Good Enough
PennyReviews30 October 2021
Korean Drama "You Raise Me Up" had a comical prompt, but an emotional and heartwarming story.

The drama does a great job showcasing the main character's downfall and struggles to find himself again and raise his own self-esteem. And that is why the romance takes the passenger's seat and, even though it has chemistry and some cute moments, it's not the star of the drama. The pace was, in addition, just perfect, with few flashbacks and a smooth ending.

The performances were all great, finally, by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, 8 out of 10.

Flawed But Touching Drama
fake_moviestar11 October 2021
I will admit that I started watching this purely because I am a fan of Yoon Shi Yoon, but I was surprised at how down to earth and touching the story ended up being. For some reason, Yoon Shi Yoon tends to be type cast as these quirky, sad losers which is funny to me because he is clearly gorgeous, and in this show he is built like a brick house. However, that's all besides the point.

The show misses the mark in some ways, particularly in areas like the professionalism and code of ethics as doctors, but the story of Yong Shik is simple but relatable, lovely and rather well done. The realism of his mental illness, anxiety, and resulting psychosomatic symptoms was very well portrayed, and while the erectile dysfunction aspect was treated in a somewhat comedic way at first, the tone quickly became somber. Yoon Shi Yoon is incredible in displaying real emotion, and he didn't disappoint here.

I found the FL to be gutsy and likeable, and despite a few moments of distasteful character choices, I really liked her overall. The romance is built slowly and realistically, and they certainly had chemistry.

Supporting characters were nicely done as well, and the OST was pleasant if not memorable. I watched this with questionable/sub-par subtitles and was still able to enjoy it.

Overall this is an enjoyable, decent watch, especially if you are a fan of Yoon Shi Yoon. I hope in the future he gets to play some more confident characters!

A story about personal growth, believing in yourself and never give up
hanalisss7 November 2021
The script of this drama is simply fantastic. This drama might confuse you at the beginning and let you think its a lighthearted comedy, but nothing further from the truth.

This story is raw and deep and will bring up all the feels and emotions.

The drama tells us The story of a guy that after some unfortunate situations in his life looses all confidence in himself and is unable to be happy or continue with his life.

We will then follow him on his struggles and his battles against personal demons and you will find yourself rooting for him to find the spark he needs to go back to his original self.

The performance of the male lead is spectacular and you will watch him become his character and be one, you can feel his pain, shyness, indecision and tenderness . Such a great performance, he absolutely steals the show.

I also love the fact that addresses social taboos in Korean society like toxic masculinity, gender roles or having a trans character.

Watch this show you won't regret it.

Funny, Sad and Uplifting All At The Same Time
PalmBeachG19 February 2024
Called "Raise Me Up" this drama is so funny, sad and uplifting all at the same time. It is surprising that all of these 3 emotions can touch you so much, mostly through the ML Yoon Chi Yoon who plays Do Yong Shik. Wasn't expecting what the drama was about (a sensitive subject for guys - erectile dysfunction due to psychological reasons of being told he was not good enough in bed by his first love). I chose to watch it since it was on my watch list as a filler while waiting for something else since it was short and I was wrong to think that as it is a good stand alone drama that is much more than just a filler and glad chose it. I don't know who rates these dramas, but I think that PG-13 was not high enough for this adult subject and some of the scenes IMO.

There are many hysterically funny scenes - especially in the first episode to set the theme of the drama when he goes to the urologist for the first time after putting his embarrassment aside mustering up his courage. Later I felt so sad for example in scenes like when he was in treatment and was told to do swimming laps and being a grown man didn't know how to swim and he tried so hard you just felt for him and wanted to jump through the screen and teach him. Finally so uplifting when he starts to get his confidence back and others learn from him too.

Will the ending be "anti-climatic" or not? You have to watch to see the final. Gave it 9 stars because I felt the FL was just not quite as good as the ML as displaying emotions on the screen.

A Top Healing Drama
M36dramas5 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the ML in The Best Hit and did not love his character or the show. Then, I found this gem. The ML blew it out of the park with a completely different character. So much depth, so many emotions, and so much growth. The love triangle kept me guessing and the whole show was so engaging. The healing aspect of the show was so beautiful. It really showed how much courage is required in healing and the ups and downs of the journey of healing.

I loved every character in this show and the 8 episodes makes it short but incredibly deep and sweet. It is hard to watch someone in so much pain, but the show was so uplifting, warm, and beautiful. Lastly, the ML and FL brought the chemistry and heat. Wow.

If ony they put some effort into it...

Nice radiohead intro and nice pink aesthetics but that's where the nice things end. The drama threw at you an enormous mixed emotional package that was never untangled adequately, not even remotely close. The shorter than usual runtime isn't an excuse, 7-8 hours should've been enough to deal with it. Nice radiohead intro and nice pink aesthetics but that's where the nice things end. A true psychological horror trying to play as a Rom-Com.
magesole15 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The beginning of this show has so many problems on so many levels... The unprofessionalism of both doctors and a bet about another person who is a patient?

No, just no, no, no, nah-a, nah, no way.

What kind of message does this show wants to present to its audience about Korean and general health care (especially psychology-wise)?

For crying out loud, the ML wanted to off himself, that is a serious matter. It was not played as a joke (which works in some cases), but the series failed to grasp the full seriousness and danger of such a behaviour in a person.

If I could, I'd give this show -20. Both doctors should lose their licences. This is not a romantic drama; this is a psychological horror trying to play as a Rom-Com.
