Lots of romantic comedy clicheés and a lack of real chemistry between the characters.
Moroccan Wedding is a new romantic comedy directed by Johan Nijenhuis, the director of De Beentjes van Sint-Hildegard and Tuscan Wedding. The film is about young Yasmine (Soumaya Ahouaoui), who has just graduated as a lawyer. Thus, her career life seems to be going in the right direction in contrast to her love life. Her relatives and group of friends are more successful in love, so they try to force her and help her with her love life. She tries to ignore them and focus on her career, but suddenly encounters two men in her life that she begins to feel something for. She is thus faced with the choice between these two men and her work. The final story of this film was written by Aliefka Bijlsma and this is only the first film script she has written. This can be seen in the final story, because this is full of clichés from your standard romantic comedy. The film is so on the familiar side around the story and comedy, so that as a connoisseur of romantic comedies you can roughly predict where the story will go. Due to the many events and characters in the film, it also comes across as messy, which makes the story difficult to follow and thus manages to provide a long-winded feeling. The comedy in the film is also on the predictable or more unusual side, leaving little to laugh about. The separate comedy moments also ensure that the quality and credibility of the film is lost. The comedy also increasingly overshadows the more dramatic sides of the story, making them feel a bit unnecessary. For example, there is little to laugh about as an audience and the loudest laughter comes from the characters in the film itself. As director of this film and many other romantic comedies, Johan Nijenhuis should have looked better at the final film, to avoid many of the clichés. Unfortunately, he ends up with your standard Dutch romantic comedy again. The film does try to stand out from the other romantic comedies by responding to Moroccan culture and customs around weddings. Unfortunately, they also don't know how to do this very well and for an equal, but more creative film it is better to watch the film Meskina or for a more comical summary on YouTube, watch Najib Amhali's video about his wedding. For a first film, Soumaya Ahouaoui does deliver good acting as a more rebellious lady who tries to keep her job above her love life. Unfortunately, thanks to the lesser script, she doesn't really have a good or credible chemistry with the two men with whom she seems to start a kind of love triangle. Due to the lack of chemistry, you as a viewer don't care much about the relationships she tries to have in the film.

I don't know. This movie has made me feel offended in many different ways. I feel like the characters were really stereotypes. If a person that hasn't been surrounded by Moroccan people watch this, they'll get this weird/bad view of Moroccans. I watched this movie in the cinema, the (white) audience their reactions were very shook/disgusted. Made me uncomfortable. There were parts that were good and I enjoyed. :)

Loved everything about it

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie.

Had a few good laughs, but it was the self-mockery of the Moroccan actors I enjoyed the most. It was a hilarious movie. Watched it together with my husband, and loved every bit about it.

The ratings here a far too low for what this movie is really worth. When watching a comedy, people shouldn't take things too seriously. Knowing the Moroccan culture made it just more fun to watch.

It's the actors, the atmosphere in the movie, the settings and the humor who made it a complete nice and relaxed movie to watch.

Watch it yourself, don't let the low ratings here keep you from watching it.
