Honest
PedroPires9031 March 2023
It would be very easy to attack this movie with many negative adjectives. It's the perfect film for Letterboxd and Film Twitter users to showcase their snobbery and balance their ratings with some negative reviews. After all, this is the kind of movie that is forgotten in a few hours, has little or no subtext, and can easily be watched while doing the dishes or ironing.

However, a movie should be judged according to what it intends to be, and this movie is exactly what it should be: light entertainment that sometimes makes you laugh and doesn't strain your brain. It's an improvement over the first movie in every way: the humour works much better, everything seems much bigger in scale, and the Sandler-Aniston duo has greater chemistry. Adding to this are new characters - our Arturito, as sexist as ever! 🤣 - that fit well into all of this.

This is the typical movie that snobby film critics will never understand when a new sequel is inevitably announced, even if it should be pretty clear: it's honest with its audience.

American Cheese!
WatchAndSmile1 April 2023
6.7/10 from me. Cheesy? Yes! Kind of stupid? You bet. Was it funny? Abso-lol-lutly! I was shaking my head, smiling and grinning the whole movie. It script is ridiculous and it somehow just was cohessive enough to work.

I watched the first one and didn't watch the trailer to the second one and came with very low expectations. I wanted a light-hearted evening to smile and the movie delivered the experience and exceeded my expectations. If you have a sense of humor, like to laugh at crazy and stupid situations, you will have a blast.

Will this win an Oscar? Not a chance, but will this deliver you 1.5 hours of good time? You bet!

About as cliche as it gets and basically a bigger budget version of the first. However in this day and age, the Sandler and Anniston classic brand of comedy is needed.
tresm8731 March 2023
Adam is still going strong in all facets of his career and actually getting a bit of long deserved recognition of late (Mark Twain Award). His comedy is universally loved even in the most basic of regurgitated Hollywood plots. This is another case of that. This builds more on the action side of the couple's escapades but delivers in the standard laughs ten fold. Anniston proves once again she is a terrific match for an on screen love interest for Sandler. Their chemistry is never missing a beat. The story becomes just a backdrop for their antics to shine. While some of the forced modern rhetoric is grating at times, the film is a solid comedy. Know what you're getting and it's a fun time.

A little better than the first one.
Top_Dawg_Critic18 April 2023
I gave the first film a 6/10 but this one gets an extra star because I enjoyed it more - probably from the extravagant sets and locations from an increased budget, and it had a slightly better story with a few more twists. Plus I found myself laughing out loud a bunch of times with this one, when I barely cracked a smile in the first film. It was an all around entertaining watch, and Sandler was being his amazing Sandler self, and his chemistry with Aniston was spot-on. It's nothing revolutionary by any means, but a fun one-time watch piece of mindless entertainment, with just the right amount of comedy, suspense and even action. Sandler fans will enjoy it.

What's up with everyone!?
ItsRobinTV31 March 2023
The time I write this review the movie has a rating of 5.8 Stars and I don't understand why.

The movie is pretty damn funny. I think there wasn't a joke I don't laughed about and the reason for that are probably the actors. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston just work so good together as well as their characters.

The action isn't as good as in John Wick 4 of course but for such a movie it's very good. I wasn't expecting that.

However the movie is a little short leading to a story that isn't as good as in Knives Out, but I mean you don't watch this movie to get a super intelligent 'murder mystery' story, which is kind of ironic.

In conclusion I would say this movie is definitely watchable so don't be afraid if you find the rating of the movie bad.

Fun but Mindless
Mabkid31 March 2023
An attempt to recreate the charm of the first, but doesn't quite get there.

Murder Mystery 2 brings back the charm of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston. Their chemistry is good.

However, the faster action pacing actually works against the comedy. It feels like a chronology of action sequences done purposefully ridiculously. So it seems like a lot of fun to shoot the movie for the cast... but it's a little messy and unfocused for the viewer.

There is even a little lack of creativity in the sequel... many elements from the first movie was recycled: stabbed victim, stealing a lambo, French lieutenant... I'm not even sure why some of the original cast needed to be in the sequel.

It was a quick fun, albeit forgettable movie. Perhaps if the plot and dialogue were a tad bit smarter, definitely the Sandler-Anniston pair can sell it!

Silly Fun
johnspringer-954402 April 2023
Like its predecessor, Murder Mystery 2 sets out to provide a breezy diversion and it largely succeeds. It isn't trying to be deep, or meaningful, or even riotously funny. But there's a good-natured charm to the proceedings thanks to the chemistry of the two leads, who manage to remain affable while quipping their way through the predictable plot. The supporting cast are one-note stereotypes (the vapid billionaire, the aggressive playboy, the coldly judgemental aristocrat, etc.) but they're utilized sparingly enough not to wear out their respective welcomes. It's an enjoyable way to turn your brain off for 90 minutes or so.

Netflix's continued obsession with mediocrity! [+44%]
arungeorge1331 March 2023
This is yet another instance of Adam Sandler aiming for low-hanging fruit, and Netflix seems quite happy indirectly funding these. With Hustle and Uncut Gems, we know there's still a side to Sandler that craves a well-written, layered character. But lightweight action comedies like these only reinstate a couple of things: a) The banality of getting a pretty worthwhile cast together in exotic places to do silly things, and b) Sandler and Aniston can handle such roles without breaking a sweat. As such, Murder Mystery ends up being a film you can play on any randomly exhausting weeknight, offering a few harmless laughs here and there. There's also the undeniable fun of seeing Sandler and Aniston in Indian attires, dancing away to Bollywood numbers.

It's similar to the last one, which is no bad thing
leenewham-3103331 March 2023
It's very similar to the last one, it's great fun, silly with lots of twists and turns and quite a few laughs. It made me laugh out loud on more than a few occasions. It's a good sequel, at least as good as the original with a feel good ending as you would expect. OK it's very ticky boxy, it's full of cliches but thats not a bad thind at all.

Sandler and Aniston look like they get along and are having fun, all the character interactions are believable and the characters are good if a little silly at times.

The script is pretty sharp and it's nice to see some characters film the first film make a return. At the end it leaves you with a smile and wanting them to return for another. It's no masterpiece, it's not a patch on something like Red Notice. But if you liked the first one, this is worth spending your time on.

Worse than the original
burntoutboy31 March 2023
I actually quite liked the first film, a cheesy but enjoyable murder mystery that took me by surprise.

The sequel is significantly worse and hardly a murder mystery. The jokes don't land, the plot and villain is predictable, acting is bad and it all feels rushed.

Its no wonder Netflix is losing subscribers if this is the content they will continue to bring out.

I don't really have anything positive to say about this Netflix sequel but if you do want to watch it, just expect it to be like any modern typical Adam Sandler comedy movie, not funny and just something to have on in the background.

Great fun
weissedel1 April 2023
We really enjoyed this comedy. It was wonderfully wacky & absurd. We laughed hysterically at some points, usually for off-hand quips from the two protagonists. If you've enjoyed past Sandler and Aniston films, you'll like this one, too. It's a lot of fun, if you're in the mood for laughter.

It's a refreshing change of pace after watching too many thriller & action films. This film is knee-slapping funny. Who cares if both the characters and the plot are verging on the absurd & surreal? That's just part of the film's charm.

I was looking forward to this movie coming out, and I wasn't disappointed. Please keep us laughing, Adam!

Inoffensive but not funny
andylev-409161 April 2023
Firstly it proves that Netflix will commission anything. Secondly I still don't get WHY SHOUTING A LOT is considered as comedy. Apparently yes in USA.

The film has lots of gags, lots of action, lots of slapstick but nothing that provides actual laughs.

I guess it assumes that the viewer likes the 2 "stars" ie found Friends funny. Which it isn't.

If you like stereotypes and bland humour of an 8 year old then it doesn't offend. Hay yo. I guess older actors eventually run out of money.

The mystery? There isn't any. The murder? Dunno. Make up your own jokes they can only be funnier than Murder mystery 2.

adam sandler fans will like it.
ksf-22 April 2023
Nick and audrey (sandler and aniston) have formed a detective agency, but they don't seem to have any clients. So they are free to attend the wedding of their friend vik, the maharaja. But there's a murder at the start of the festivities. So nick and audrey try to figure out who the murderer is. And one by one, they talk to the many, many suspects, who keep busting into their room. It's all tongue in cheek. Silly, fast talking, fast action script. And of course, they are being framed as the bad guys. It's goofy but fun. Even has a bollywood style dance number. And, like any sandler film, not to be taken too seriously. As the body count goes up, they get in deeper and deeper. Fun stuff. It's a good thing there's no security at la tour eiffel! Directed by jeremy garelick. Story by james vanderbilt, who had worked on part one, as well as several of the "scream" films.

Better Than Glass Onion. Honestly.
ryanpersaud-5941514 April 2023
Yep. It's true. This by-the-numbers, outwardly made for contractual obligations movie, literally titled the genre it falls into...is a better murder mystery than the big budget, high profile, Oscar Bait trainwreck from Rian Johnson released last year. It's incredible.

Look, I'm not going to pretend this movie is the best thing ever, but it's a lot of fun. Jennifer Anniston and Adam Sandler have great chemistry and genuinely seem like a married couple. There's an eclectic, fun bunch of characters whom are very visually distinct and all have understandable motives. You have some interesting red herrings and subplots and it's all wrapped around a pretty decent mystery that doesn't feel impossible to figure out, but was clever when it was revealed. (Again, all of these things decidedly DID NOT apply to Glass Onion)

I was also really surprised by the fun, globe trotting nature of the story; I'm a sucker for good locations and Adam Sandler in particular is a guy who seems to take appropriate advantage of the location budgets Netflix provides him. There are also a lot of good action scenes that genuinely impressed me, particularly towards the end.

Is this movie perfect? No. Would you expect MURDER MYSTERY 2 to be a perfect, sterling example of the genre? No. But if you go in with low expectations, I'm sure you'll come out with a smile on your face.

Dumb and annoying
Plazeebo31 March 2023
Hear me out - you can have dumb and annoying characters and still make a comedy. Check out Jim Carrey in "Dumb and Dumber".

I remember in an interview Jeff Daniels said he was cast because they needed a great actor to pull this off, not a great comedian.

This is just a series of stupid things done by stupid people for no reason at all.

Who thinks it's funny to hear Jennifer Anniston fight with Adam Sandler? It's not funny to hear people quarrel. Sorry to break it to you, "comedy" writers out there.

With such a weak comedy, you could add some quality through excellent writing. But alas, the story is weak and written by an 8 year old. I think.

A follow-up to the successful Murder Mystery 1
blanche-218 October 2023
Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are back - with more slapstick, comedy, and even crazier scenes.

They are again the Spitzes, this time officially detectives, who run into murder and mayhem wherever they turn.

Four years after Murder Mystery 1, Nick and Audrey are invited to When they're invited to celebrate the wedding of their friend The Maharajah (Adeel Akhtar) on his island. He is kidnapped, and everyone becomes a suspect.

The movie sports a good supporting cast - Mark Strong, The plot of the film is good enough and so are the characters, especially Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, who are always great together, along with the supporting cast: Miller (Mark Strong), Melanie Laurent, Jodie Turner-Smith, John Kani, Kuhoo Vermal, Dany Boon, Enrique Arce, Jillian Bell, and Tony Goldwyn.

The story takes us to Paris - the scenery is fantastic. The Spitzes and the predicaments they get into are hilarious.

This is light fun, enjoyable, with some laugh out loud moments.

Not necessary but fun
CorbinCritic1 April 2023
Movie was a solid fun watch, but for me there was just some things I did not like. To start the movie is very similar to the first one, doesnt feel like they tried to change anything except locations. The pacing of the movie was also very fast, everything just happened so fast it feels like you hardly get anytime to process what just happened. My last complaint is that there is plot points that just did not need to be added at all, like the story would have been fine to not add them, I am not gonna spoil anything but you will probably notice. Some positives about the movie was that it was funny, had decent acting, and was a fun watch. Overall I would Recommend.

Fun and Relaxing
mikkiparker6 April 2023
If you're looking for a good comedy to watch with the family, this film is a great choice. The cast of familiar faces will keep you entertained and feeling good throughout the movie. While it's not groundbreaking, it's still one of the most enjoyable comedies that have come out recently.

Adam and Jennifer's chemistry as a married couple turned private detectives is a highlight of the film. They're funny and endearing, even when their antics get a little chaotic and reckless. You're sure to leave the movie at least smiling.

The plot of the film is simple, but the visual side of things is compelling, and the cultural aspects are fun to watch.

Overall, I would recommend this film to anyone looking for a good time. It's one of the better comedies that I've seen in a while, and you're guaranteed to laugh out loud a few times.

Going through the motions. Worse than the original which wasnt excellent to begin with...
imseeg2 April 2023
I didnt laugh once. But humour is personal, so other folks might be able to laugh about this story. I did like the original Murder Mystery movie, although that first one wasnt excellent either.

The bad: the jokes are missing the mark. I simply did not laugh once. Nor did I find it amusing.

This movie has written FORMULA all over it. It's another failed Neftlix formula comedy.

This movie lasts 90 minutes of which 13 minutes are the end credits. That's a bad sign. Even with this very short duration I GOT BORED anyway.

Not any good then? The actors in it are ofcourse good. Although Jennifer Anniston has gotten some weird looking plastic surgery and because of that her usual natural charming facial expressions look somewhat off.

Adam Sandler aint bad either, but as I said before, the jokes are missing the mark. I did not laugh once... Bummer.

Great fun
cnkchmww31 March 2023
I thought this movie was terrific fun. There are absolutely beautiful costumes, gorgeous scenery and entertaining laughs. It's not going to win an Oscar, but it was never designed to. It was designed to entertain and it is the perfect movie to watch on a Friday night with some takeaway. You will probably guess who the villain is pretty early on, but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the film. I've never been a huge Adam Sandler fan, having said that I do find him quite entertaining in this role and Jennifer Aniston once again proves her comedic chops. Overall, it's a light-hearted and enjoyable comedy. Frankly, I can't wait for Murder Mystery 3.

A Whimsical Whodunit: 'Murder Mystery 2' Delivers Laughs and Suspense
timojansen200031 March 2023
"Murder Mystery 2" reunites the charming duo of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston as Nick and Audrey Spitz, who find themselves embroiled in yet another thrilling whodunit. The sequel to the 2019 Netflix hit, "Murder Mystery," maintains the delightful mix of comedy and suspense that made the original such a crowd-pleaser.

This time around, the Spitz couple takes a trip to a luxurious castle in Europe for a friend's wedding. However, things quickly go awry when a murder occurs, and once again, they are drawn into solving the mystery.

Sandler and Aniston's chemistry remains as strong as ever, making it a joy to watch them navigate the twists and turns of the plot. Their witty banter and playful antics provide the perfect counterbalance to the film's darker moments. Luke Evans, who reprises his role as the enigmatic Charles Cavendish, adds another layer of intrigue to the story.

The cinematography captures the stunning European scenery, using the castle's historic architecture to create a haunting atmosphere that underscores the murder mystery theme. The costumes and set design further enhance the film's visual appeal, transporting viewers to a world of glamour and danger.

Despite its strengths, "Murder Mystery 2" falls into some familiar traps of the genre. The plot occasionally relies on convenient coincidences and clichéd tropes, which may not sit well with some viewers. However, the film's self-aware humor often acknowledges these tropes, turning them into opportunities for comedy.

Overall, "Murder Mystery 2" is an entertaining and engaging sequel that should please fans of the original. With its blend of comedy, suspense, and the undeniable chemistry between Sandler and Aniston, the film delivers a fun and enjoyable experience that makes for a perfect weekend watch.

Not worth your time, unless you want to learn what NOT to do in filmaking.
tprothero-385056 April 2023
Honestly, do film makers not care anymore. I stopped watching when Jennifer Aniston feels for a gun tucked behind the bride's dress. The continuity of the shot was wrong and confusing. Jen is on the left screen, bride is on the right. Bride goes in for a hug and you see a close up shot of Jen touching a gun behind the bride's back which is now left screen. Jen's body should always stay on the left screen if she was there for the wider shot, you don't flip the positions. Anyhow, this is film making 101. I just thought people should know if they were confused at that part, it's because the filmmakers don't know how to communicate or they just don't care.

Bring on Murder Mystery 3 for me
mikelaurielfc1 April 2023
A smashing film with plenty of funny lines, don't worry about the haters, they don't have a sense of humor. Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler share the laughs and work great together. Roll on the sequel to the sequel.

Mila Laurie the up and coming author from New Zealand has been approached to write some of the script for the sequel to the sequel. Normally she specializes in fantasy stories so the rumors are it could go left field and feature a dragon or two or or even a fire breathing cat. Adam Sandler was asked about this and he said that due to his contract with Netflix he was unable to discuss this. On the other hand Jennifer Aniston said she can't wait to see how the script turns out as she adores Mila's creativity.

Forgettable froth
radhrh3 April 2023
To be honest I bearly remember 2019's Murder Mystery so it's a bit of a mystery why Netflix decided we all needed a sequel. However here it is and as far as Netflix movies go it's not bad. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston work well together although the best lines are reserved for Sandler. Mark Strong is always worth watching however the rest of the cast are lack luster and only there to fill screen space. The script moves along at a good lick which is just as well as it's not wise to examine the plot in too much detail and with a run time of just 89 minutes it doesn't outstay it's welcome. All in all an amusing if forgettable experience but I doubt a third installment will be necessary.
