Luscious but dark anthology about Mumbai's lonely people
witra_as21 September 2021
Luscious but dark anthology about Mumbai's lonely people. Banerjee held my attention most with Tiwari's mannequin obsession. Chaudhary put provoking minds into distrustful husband-wife issues. Chaubey's ending to cinema-fans lovebirds was quite tedious.

Better unsaid
sanjeevanwar17 September 2021
Anwar Says: In one of my review, I had written last week that it seems you would hardly get something good to watch and write in September. Three known veteran film personalities trying an Anthology on Netflix , the expectation got high but they would have been better left UNSAID.

Abhishek Chaubey's creation , the middle one of three short stories, was the only one worth talking about. Producer chose not to name the stories. Set up in 1980's , two hopeless young people liberate each other from their dark destiny and superbly played by Rinku Rajguru and Dilzad Hiwale , one who played the younger Irfan in Hindi Medium. The excitement of watching movie in sweaty single theatre has been nicely conveyed.

Ashwini Iyer Tiwary's story tried to show the loneliness a single man in a big city faces , as if the viewers don't know. The lead Abhishek Banerjee tries to make you believe that you may find a companion in a mannequin. Not a bad story but very loosely said.

The third one of Saket Chaudhary is a real pretentious, asking more than enough on infidelity, in spite of having top cast Kuna Kapur and Zoya Hassan, Palomi Ghosh and Nikhil Dwivedi. The director who gave us two side effects'Shaadi' and 'Pyar' couldn't contribute any effect in this story.

Abhishek Chaubey, the genius should come out of this Anthology business, we are dying to watch more and more of his creations in continuation to Ishqia, Dedh Ishqia , Udta Punjab Sonchiriya ...... #Netflix #anwarsays #AbhishekChaubey #ashwiniiyertiwary #saketchaudhsry #AnthologySeries #movie2021 #review #moviereview.

Not that good but at least better than that other anthology movies on Netflix.

Saket Chaudhary(3rd Story) > Ashwiny Iyer(1st Story) > Abhishek Chaubey Really liked tha cast and every actor did one's part perfectly.

Extending the boundaries of weirdness

Every time you think Netflix cannot make more weirder story. Think again. It will prove you wrong every single time.

Just amazing

Story 1 & 2: 10 stars. What an acting by everyone. Great screen play. Can't believe it has so low rating here. Hope they make more movies like this. Very beautiful stories of innocence , love.

Story 3: Just below average story. I guess all bad reviews are from this.

Worth watching, enjoyable short stories.
ayush-pandey-503-80674525 December 2022
Great job by the actors, the stories lacked depth but made for an entertaining watch.

The first story explores loneliness and friendships in urban societies. The depth it lacked was about the labor exploitation by the shop owner.

The second story has the depth that is missing from the first story. It is a cute story of a young couple who face oppressive situations in their lives and their ways to deal with it. This is the best story in the series.

My only complain is that the last story lacked conviction and was very predictable. It follows a very well-known arc of how two people fall in love.

Not true to the title
mahatosaroj-2307623 October 2022
I don't know about the first two stories but the third story is clearly adapted from Wang Kar-Wai's 'In the Mood for Love'. So, not so much of an ankahi kahani there. The first story is ridiculous. Lots of movies have come out this past decade that look like they have some depth but what they really are are pseudo-art movies. Now about the second story: I feel like the things that happen in this story is not very uncommon.

When the title says that these are untold stories, I expect to see some very rare but very possible things. The first story is too ridiculous, the second one is very common in a metro city of highly populated India, and the third story has already been told. So, the title was deceiving.

Apart from the mismatch between the title and the contents, the movie was boring. The three stories had no connection with each other except for them all being about romantic nature. Acting in the first two stories was convincing.

Leaves you longing for more
drkavitha_k18 September 2021
Beautiful stories, excellent performance by the cast. Why only 3? Probably a good thing when we have other anthologies with lovely stories and a few bad apples ruins the bunch. The mid story is distictly superior than the other two, subtle, tender, exquisite. Good work by the team.

Average fare in the three stories
madanmarwah25 September 2021
The movie is three stories in one. I would like to call the three of them " In love with a mannequin", " Elopement with a twist " and " Infidelity ke side effects ". I would rate them 7, 6 ,and 5 respectively making it an average of 6.

The first one is a simple film where Abhishek Banerjee plays a bachelor salesperson in a textile retail shop who is obsessed with a female mannequin of the shop. He is shown taking out the mannequin for a date in the city. A very different and difficult role for him and Abhishek has done it convincingly.

The second story has a young timid guy, an usher in a local cinema hall who likes a girl who comes to see films there. They keep eyeing each other giving pathetic and helpless looks. Nothing happens even when they are in their private space. Probably a case of "fear of getting caught "(FOGC). The film has a surprise ending.

The third story is about infidelity in marriage. It is a story about two urban well to do couples say A and B. The wife A has an affair with the husband B, and the unhappy wife B now goes to husband A to discuss and analyse why her husband is having the affair. Whew, it gets messy and complicated. The listless thought process being discussed is that you can't live life as per your choice if you remain married, and on the other hand separation is an extremely painful decision. The film tends to get monotonous and the dialogue doesn't help.

Ankahi hi rehne dete Kahaniyo ko to sahi rehta
tulsi-das-khan19 September 2021
Netflix literally burning subscribers' money by giving us such poor shows all over the year. Nothing good about the stories, Abhishek Chaubey's story was watchable but that's about it.

Sad anthologies
sameerlodaya18 September 2021
Netflix has come again with anthologies but this time it was just 3

The first 2 anthologies are very sad as the climax ended in a very sad mode.. all the 3 anthologies are very slow but they have good starcasts..the performances are just normal..third anathology is little reasonable and interesting and also have a good climax

It's for contemporary audiences who are found of different serious and deep stories but for normal audiences it's a boredom

It's your choice.

Drab stories of drab lives!
qui_j19 September 2021
This collection of short stories around a central theme of loneliness, falls flat! It appears as if it were a vanity project for the producer or writer. The stories are not engaging but the casting appears to be good. It is not an appealing film at any level!

Ankahi kahaniya
puranjanbasak21 September 2021
Ankahi kahaniya is a romantic anthology consisting of three stories by ashwini iyer tiwari, abhishek chaubey and saket chaudhary. Here r the positives and negatives:

Ashwini iyer tiwari segment: abhishek banerjee is phenomenal. His expressions and dialogue delivery is unparallel. The bgm used is too good. Very soothing and apt. The supporting cast is good. But it lacks a bit of conviction. A bit more smarter writing was needed. But nitesh tiwari handled it pretty well in writing. I rate it 9 out of 10.

Abhishek chaubey segment:this is perfect. The writing is top notch. Delzad hiwale is so good. His eyes are magnetic. I found a bit of irrfan sir to be honest. This is not a comparison in anyway. Rinku rajguru is innocent and gives an earnest performance. Abhishek chaubey is a genius. His frames, his vision is to some other level. A vishal bharadwaj school prodigy doing his job excellently. The editing is too good. The parallel lives of the protagonists are beautifully seamed up. This should not be missed. I rate it 10 out of 10.

Saket chaudhary segment: this is bit weak. Acting is unquestionable. Zoya hussain and kunal kapoor hv given their best. But the fault is in writing. It is so dialogue heavy that the moments become light. Visual grammar was necessary. The colour grading is good. But it is a good watch. I rate it 8 out of 10.

Sad fantasy stories
roshalphonso26 September 2021
Except the second story, the first 2 stories are just rubbish. In a real world, I am wondering why even go through the pain of writing something like these. Time waster.

Absolute speechless
anurag-0439823 September 2021
The depth, the portrayal of emotions and filming will leave you absolute speechless. All the 3 directors and actors did the great job of making the best out of the script. I was teary specially with the acting of Abhishek Banerjee. Thanks to OTT platforms that actors like him are not lost in the filthy bollywood nepotism.

Movie for the thinking crowd and not for the regulars
lewisaldo18 September 2021
The best part of the movie has been the mood it has created

Phenomenal performance by Abhishek Banerjee who has single handed carried it on his shoulders and delivered on a very difficult subject

The second part has captured the old movie theaters in a raw accurate manner

Overall a great movie but not for the regular Jonny's and mortal followers

Movies like this I hope will save Bollywood and make way for some great performers a chance and take the industry ahead.

Or else the southern Indian movies offer far better of options.
