The male gaze is a powerful thing. For the majority of history, it has been the only gaze that mattered. As a result, much of women's history has been skewed through its perspective. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in the dichotomy of pariah and protagonist: Joan of Arc, Cleopatra, and countless others have had their actions and impacts scrutinized only to be branded one or the other.
The reggaetonera Villana Santiago Pacheco, known to fans as Villano Antillano or La Villana, is no stranger to this treatment. But as she rewrites the narrative with complex, often biting wordplay and an unapologetic attitude, the 28-year-old has become both the protagonist of her own story and reggaeton's latest movement, and a pariah to those minds who would seek to impose their traditional values and prejudice to marginalize her identity. But if you ask La Villana herself - one of reggaeton's first...

“I think they felt such huge respect for someone who kept her promise. She just kept her promise and she did the job,” said Staunton. “It amazed me, people’s response to her. Nick Cannon will soon have enough children to build a soccer team. Via a nude photoshoot (of course) with model Alyssa Scott, the two announced that they have a “miracle” on the way after the couple lost their 5-month-old son to brain cancer last December. The baby on the way marks the Wild N’ Out host’s 11th known child.
“This is a miracle & a blessing ,” Scott captioned a photo that captured Cannon sitting in a bathtub putting his hand on Scott’s pregnant belly as she covered her breasts with her hands.

This House of the Dragon review contains spoilers.
House of the Dragon Episode 6
“The Princess and the Queen” is effectively a second pilot episode for House of the Dragon. The installment flashes further forward into the future than ever before and ages its characters up so severely that they may as well be entirely different people. And that’s not even to mention the nearly dozen actually new characters that the episode does introduce in the form of Queen Alicent, Princess Rhaenyra, and Prince Daemon’s respective broods of children.
The decision to jump so far down the timeline midseason is as bold a one as you’re likely to see on television. It has every reason to be a disastrous one as well. Shuffling the board to this extent halfway through a story shouldn’t work. And yet, work “The Princess and The Queen” does. This episode isn’t just an impressive technical maneuver.

One of Netflix's most popular shows, "Bridgerton," has its first spin-off, "Queen Charlotte," on the way. And now there's a sneak peek of it online along with an appropriately regal first-look photo (see above), which comes ahead of the streamer's global fan event, Tudum, this weekend.
"Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" is an upcoming limited series from writer and showrunner Shonda Rhimes and director Tom Verica. Created by Chris Van Dusen, "Bridgerton" was the first scripted Netflix series from Rhimes' production company, Shondaland. Now, Rhimes herself, the creator of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal," is taking the reins of a project that Netflix's official press release describes as "a Bridgerton-verse prequel centered on Queen Charlotte's rise to prominence and power."
Rhimes and Verica are executive producing "Queen Charlotte" with Betsy Beers. Golda Rosheuvel will reprise her "Bridgerton" role as the titular, wig-happy Charlotte, with India Amarteifio ("Line of Duty...

Dear gentlest reader, are you ready for more "Bridgerton"? Because the first look at the "Queen Charlotte" spinoff has finally arrived. The second project in the "Bridgerton" universe is all about the origin story of the gossip-obsessed monarch, supremely played by Golda Rosheuvel in the original series. But per a new photo shared by Netflix on Sept. 23, "Sex Education" actor India Ria Amarteifio is stepping into the royal role of a young Queen Charlotte in the new show.
In May 2021, Netflix first announced plans for a Queen Charlotte spinoff series and "Bridgerton" fans have been eagerly awaiting it since then. On March 30 of this year, shortly after season two of "Bridgerton" landed on Netflix, we finally got a sneak peek of the cast.
In an Instagram post shared by the "Bridgerton" account, a caption listed Amarteifio, Adjoa Andoh, and Arsema Thomas as the newest "Queen Charlotte" recruits. The caption read,...

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has dominated global news this month, and it's something that has even filtered down to movie discussions, especially where the James Bond franchise is concerned. For 60 years — ever since Sean Connery first played Bond in "Dr. No" in 1962 — agent 007 fought for "Queen and country" on the movie screen. Earlier this year, as 007 was celebrating his anniversary and Elizabeth II was celebrating her own Platinum Jubilee, the official Bond Twitter account used that same phrase, "for Queen and country," to mark the occasion.
Ten years earlier, Daniel Craig and the Queen even jumped out of a helicopter together while London was hosting the Olympics and the Queen was celebrating her Diamond Jubilee (while Bond was promoting the release of "Skyfall" and his 50th anniversary). Suffice it to say, with Bond's history so entwined with that of the late Queen, it has left some fans wondering...

Not only was Queen Elizabeth II the only monarch most of us have ever known, but her portrait is synonymous with money in the UK. It's hard to imagine British currency without her image. Yet, following her death on Sept. 8, many things are likely to change, including the way money in the UK looks. Not only will her portrait be replaced by the new monarch, King Charles III, but the direction his portrait faces will also change.
Can Money With the Queen's Face Still Be Used?
Firstly, there's no need to panic. Any cash you have is still legal tender. It will, however, be phased out over time and replaced with notes and coins featuring images of her son King Charles III.

In an increasingly surprising story in the UK, a campaign to remove two star TV presenters from their morning show has now reached almost 30,000 signatures. Their alleged crime? Jumping the queue to see the late Queen.
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, who present This Morning on ITV and are two of the most familiar faces on British TV, visited the monarch’s lying-in-state at Westminster Hall last Friday.
When they were spotted walking past the Queen’s coffin, observers complained they had jumped the queue, something to ire those thousands waiting patiently for up to 24 hours to pay their own respects.
With criticism ringing in their ears, This Morning’s producers issued a statement over the weekend, insisting the pair had not jumped the queue but were in the Hall on duty for work as members of the press, reporting on the event.

John Oliver said on the Sept. 19 episode of “Late Night With Seth Meyers” that it was “pretty shitty” to have his Queen Elizabeth II jokes censored by the U.K. television network Sky following the British monarch’s death. During the first episode of Oliver’s HBO show “Last Week Tonight” that aired after the Queen’s passing, the host quipped that the U.K. was “reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes.” Oliver was being sarcastic, which led Sky to censor the comment from the show.
“All we said was that Britain is still mourning the shocking loss — right? — of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes. It’s literally not a joke,” Oliver told Seth Meyers about the censorship. “Scientifically, it’s not a joke. That’s just a fact with a kind of dick-ish inflection, that’s all it is. “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” fans in the U.K. slammed Sky last week after they axed a joke about the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Oliver previously said during his show: “We need to start with the U.K., which is clearly still reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes.”
He went on, “It is a big moment, which for some reason absolutely everyone felt that they had to weigh in on, from Crazy Frog, which tweeted out ‘Rip the Queen’ [and a] candle emoji – a tweet that’s impossible to read without mentally adding [Crazy Frog’s dance music] – to Domino’s U.K., which posted, ‘Everyone at Domino’s joins the nation and the world in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family.’
“Which I guess is nice, although if the world is mourning, they should maybe tell the U.

“Quantum Leap” has entered the “Peak TV” era of television, but while the new NBC reboot gets off to a shaky start, there’s reason to believe this new version is still worthwhile.
Airing from 1989 to 1993, NBC’s original “Quantum Leap,” starred Scott Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett, a scientist who has invented time travel and ends up getting trapped in time as a result of it. Sam’s particular brand of time traveling involved “leaping” into the bodies of various people through time and having to right certain wrongs throughout history before he could leap into the next. During Sam’s adventures, he would be aided by Al (Dean Stockwell), a colleague who provided him with certain answers—courtesy of Ziggy, the Project Quantum Leap supercomputer—about the people Sam would be inhabiting and helping.

UK Saturday night television in the 1990s cannibalised its own audience, relying on them not merely to watch its entertainment, but also to be the entertainment. It was all good, harmless fun, and none of it placed particularly great demands on the contestants or the audiences from which they were plucked. Blind Date invited us to trade cheesy chat-up lines with strangers, and sometimes go on holiday with people we didn’t like. Noel Edmonds wanted to secretly monitor us in our homes, and then pour gunge on us. But then came Gladiators, and by golly it wasn’t interested in giving us an easy ride.

U.K. viewers have taken to Twitter to lambast Comcast-owned network Sky for apparently cutting two jokes related to Queen Elizabeth II in the local broadcast of “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.”
In HBO’s broadcast, which aired on Sunday night in the U.S., Oliver opens with a joke about the President of Chile before saying: “But obviously, we need to start with the U.K., which is clearly still reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes,” which is followed by laughter.
Oliver continues: “It is a big moment which for some reason absolutely everyone felt that they had to weigh in on from [Swedish CGI dance music act] Crazy Frog, which tweeted out ‘Rip the Queen’ [and a] candle emoji – a tweet that’s impossible to read without mentally adding [Crazy Frog’s dance music] – to Dominos U.K. which posted, ‘Everyone at Domino’s joins the nation...

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” returns with an electrifying start.
Clarkson welcomed back audiences with a classic Kellyoke segment, but this time she pulled out all the stops with an action-packed medley.
The segment was mostly prerecorded and included hits from Willie Nelson, Madonna, Aretha Franklin and Taylor Swift.

Why did Starz turn away from the British Tudors and to the world of French Queen Catherine de Medici for their new series “The Serpent Queen”?
“Sometimes it’s because somebody’s so bad that they really make a dent in history,” Nancy Goldstone, author of “The Rival Queens,” a biography on de Medici, said. Goldstone talked to IndieWire via Zoom and explained that de Medici was not only a fierce strategist, but a brutal and bloody queen with a bevy of murders under her hat.
“The Serpent Queen” attempts to showcase de Medici’s (Samantha Morton) ruthlessness, as well as highlight the humor in a story of an unappealing young Italian woman sent to France to become Queen. Filled with fourth-wall breaks, and a joke that feels pulled directly from Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas,” “The Serpent Queen” almost feels like the anti-historical drama. But sometimes fact and fiction collide — below,...

“Yes, I’m dying”.
That’s the stark tabloid headline People magazine runs in gigantic letters alongside a photo of Dottie Roman in the first episode of Monarch, Fox’s lavish new musical soap about a ruthless country music dynasty.
Dottie, played by Susan Sarandon with ballsy swagger and a closer-to-God blowout, seethes over the cover story about her own terminal cancer as she primps for her last ever awards show. She’s the “queen of country music” – think Dolly Parton big – and she’s determined to go out with a smile on her face, even if it’s as fake as her outrage. Dottie leaked the story to the press herself, we eventually learn. She probably even signed off on the picture – red lips pursed in defiance, peeking out from under the wide brim of her signature cowboy hat with its diamante band. Everything in the cloistered world of country music runs through Dottie.

All the queen’s horses and all the queen’s dogs — what’s going to happen to Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved animals now that she has died?
Queen Elizabeth adored animals, especially horses, cows and, perhaps most of all, her corgis.
The monarch, 96, died on Sept. 8, and senior members of the Royal Family rushed to Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be at her bedside.

“I think though we can mourn the Queen and not the empire,” said Sunny Hostin on The View today.
Hostin’s assertion came in response to a story from Joy Behar about her time doing standup in the U.K., where she said jokes about the Queen did not go over well.
Hostin said that, having lived in the U.K., she herself got caught up in the “pomp and circumstances” surrounding the monarchy.
She offered a more critical take today.
“Because if you really think about what the monarchy was built on,” she continued, “it was built on the backs of Black and brown people.”
The View co-host held up the crown itself as an example.
“She [the Queen] wore a crown with pillaged stones from India and Africa,” said Hostin. “And now what you’re seeing, at least in the Black communities that I’m a part of, they want reparations.

If you were to see the trailer or basically any promotional material for “The Serpent Queen,” Starz’s new series about the infamous life of one Catherine de Medici, you’d be forgiven for assuming it’s a showcase for Samantha Morton in a historical drama with modern touches, following in the footsteps of her recent turn in “Harlots.” Even its arresting opening credits sequence, which sees Morton stride to a throne to a heavy guitar lick as snakes slither out and toward her, suggests a show preoccupied with being Edgy and Different — a show that would consider itself to be not like Starz’s many other historical drama girls, as it were.
However: as adapted from Leonie Frieda’s biography by Justin Haythe, this perception proves to be only somewhat the case. In fact, the first few episodes of “The Serpent Queen” — which premieres Sunday, Sept. 11 — feature Morton sparingly,...

Late-night TV hosts were among those paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after she died at age 96 on Thursday.
British host James Corden was clearly emotional as he addressed viewers on “The Late Late Show”, sharing in a quiet studio: “I, like the rest of the world, am so sad tonight, but also so thankful and grateful to the queen for the most incredible service and leadership she has shown during all of our lifetimes.”
He added, “We viewed her as immortal, an essential part of the fabric of our world.”

Queen Elizabeth II lived a remarkable life – but not everyone knows she made time to watch TV too.
The Royal Family announced that the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday (8 September), aged 96.
In the wake of her death, fans are remembering the Queen’s rather eclectic taste in television.
According to reports, the Queen received selected shows from the BBC, who would occasionally add in unrequested items they thought she may enjoy.
Other reports have suggested that she once asked that a Doctor Who DVD box set be sent to Balmoral, and that she told actor Peter Sallis that she loved Last of the Summer Wine.
She also visited the set of EastEnders in 2001.
It would seem that even royals aren’t above a hate-watch either, as she is said to have once commented on police procedural series The Bill: “I don’t like The Bill but I just can’t help watching it.

“Nobody messes with my family!” shouts Queen Latifah, aiming a revolver at baddies during a late moment in “End of the Road.” It is one of several points in this Netflix thriller where the blatancy of undiluted cliché has an effect rather more comical than intended. Taking a brisk route from the pedestrian to the preposterous, Millicent Shelton’s slick but silly film diminishes its social-commentary edge by painting an African American family’s cross-country trip in cartoonishly broad terms, imperiled by crazy and/or criminal “crackers” at every junction.
Director and cast do their best — well, maybe not their best, but their competent professional duty — with a formulaic, contrived screenplay. Still, the results do no one much credit, landing closer to overripe cheese than taut suspense, or even guilty-pleasure terrain. “End” launches on the streamer Sept. 9.

Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch, has died. She was 96.
Prior to the news of Her Majesty’s death, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday morning, “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.”
The queen’s family, including her four children, Prince Charles of Wales, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, grandchildren Prince William and Prince Harry, and several other members of the royal family, all traveled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland amid the news of her declining health.
Crowds also congregated outside of Buckingham Palace, awaiting further updates on the longest-reigning sovereign’s condition. Those gathered outside the gates witnessed a double rainbow appearing opposite the Palace, popping up after a morning of dark clouds and rainfall gave way to bursts of sunshine.

Queen Elizabeth II, the world’s second-longest-reigning monarch, died Thursday at age 96, prompting the media to begin preparing for Operation London Bridge. That is the official plan, also known as London Bridge Is Down, for what will happen in the UK following her death.
Deadline understands that major news organizations have been in preparation mode for months, since the Queen first showed signs of ill health, with planning meetings at some networks quietly going from monthly to weekly.
Buckingham Palace has never given an on-the-record briefing on next steps following the Queen’s death, but it gives regular off-record briefings to allow the media to plan. Newspapers will have days’ worth of coverage ready to go.

Exclusive: Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead) is to lead Paramount+’s Burning Girls alongside Bridgerton star Ruby Stokes, Deadline can reveal.
The show from Marcella producer Buccaneer Media, which is adapted from a C.J. Tudor novel, has entered production and follows a village haunted by a dark and turbulent history.
Morton will play Reverend Jack Brooks, a single parent haunted by a tragedy from her previous church and who bears the onus of her husband’s death. Stokes is her daughter Flo, a teenager who marches to the beat of her own drum. Both arrive in Chapel Croft in the hope of a fresh start, however, they soon find the village rife with conspiracies and secrets.
The thriller was one of Paramount+’s first UK commissions and the streamer has since ordered The Doll Factory, also from Buccaneer, an adaptation of Elizabeth Macneal’s Sunday Times bestselling novel.
