Fun challenges
Calicodreamin13 October 2021
The challenges were really fun, taking a spin on baking on adding a cool element of rethinking what food can do. However, the judges and editing are annoying. The contestants were fairly likable, save for one really annoying pair. The winner was well deserved, which I appreciated.

Why are they wearing the same clothes
htotto14 October 2021
I like it BUT WHY are the people wearing the exact same outfit for every episode it makes no sense. It feels fake. So they not go home and get ready for the next day. Confusing!

Needs some work
aliholly-6281923 December 2021
I started watching this because I had nothing else to watch. I was pleasantly surprised to see Andrew Smyth judging! I enjoyed him very much when he was a contestant on Bake Off.

The premise of the show is interesting. Bakers and engineers work together to make a functional edible treat. I can't help but think, however, that just because your creation is made of edible materials who would actually want to eat that? It seems quite wasteful.

I also don't like, and I'm only 3 episodes in, that the contestants haven't changed partners. Every episode they should change partners. It's painful watching "X" constantly "fail" because "Y" keeps screwing up.

I'm fine with the judging. Seems fair. A baker who is also an engineer, a baker, and then an engineer. Each can offer constructive criticism.

I notice, and other people have pointing out, sneaky editing tricks. Cuts just as someone's project actually fell apart, for instance. How was that not considered a problem? Don't think I didn't notice, because I did. Also, contestants always wearing the same clothes. That's another editing trick so in case someone says something juicy or they catch a weird face the editors can put it where they want. Not cute. We want "reality" in reality TV.

Imma keep watching, but it needs some work.

HUNGRY for MORE.
Her-Excellency24 September 2022
I absolutely LOVED this show, and I am sad that there appears to be no news on a Season 2. I hate the fact that I never saw any advertisements for it or knew it existed until about two or three weeks ago, long after the first season had aired. We're not big television watchers, but I do love baking shows, have a decent social media presence and we don't exactly keep our heads in the sand in terms of news, so how could I have not known this show existed (and what ELSE am I missing)? Executives need to do better at promoting new series/shows!

The premise, as other reviewers have already covered, is that teams consisting of one baker and one engineer are given the opportunity to build something according to specifications put forth by the "TEST" they must "pass". The first and foremost, and non-changing specification, is that the resulting build must be EDIBLE, and of course, electronically (or otherwise) viable, motile and/or usable.

The resulting creations range from hilarious to excellent. They also fail more times than may be expected, which had me in stitches!!!

If there is one thing I did not like, it was the inclusion of the food judge they chose. She seemed to have the exact same comment for everyone and it was almost as if she HAD to find fault with whatever she tasted. Not only that, but she just seemed to lack the charisma necessary to be a television 'personality'. The Bakineer judge, on the other hand, was great; as was (to a slightly lesser degree), the Engineering judge.

In regard to the contestants wearing the same outfits (which other reviewers seem to be bothered by) all I can say is: SO? In fact, it had not even crossed my mind as a 'big deal', until I read the reviews here. *I* simply _assumed_ that **everyone** would ASSUME (and remember) that there is such a thing called LAUNDRY. If it were costumes or uniforms they wore, hardly any eyebrows would be raised, so why are people assuming (yes, that word again) that they were wearing DIRTY clothes?

Lastly, in terms of "wasted food" - how do people know this food was not ultimately donated? OR, what difference does it make if a "game show" or other show of this nature uses its resources in money, art direction, production, set decor, prizes, etc., or FOOD? Does it being edible raw material change the fact that any and ALL shows which people enjoy are using THEIR resources?

Again, I found it HILARIOUS, well-meaning, instructive (in that all engineers are NOT created equal 😂😂😂); highly entertaining and addictive.

I HOPE it returns for a second season or that a network picks it up, especially because most shows of this nature are always tweaked from one season to the next until they find their 'groove'. This one started off amazingly well, so once re-engineered, it can't help but be fabulous!

Good show to watch with the family.. but, omg, the food waste is terrible
endpoint-10131 October 2021
We're enjoying it as a family, but the sheer quantity of food waste leaves a bad taste in the mouth. It'd feel more responsible if they disclosed what happened to the food afterwards, and you'd hope that a majority of the ingredients was past its sell-by date. If there's a series 2 can the production team please bear this in mind.

Really cool idea!
pammyj-663928 October 2021
It's a baking show, what do you expect? It's fun and the fact that the success depends on 2 people adds a different element. Thoroughly enjoyed! One question though, they are wearing the same clothes the whole time... no way that it's filmed back to back, they would all be delusional. What gives?? Haha.

Judges rigged their final judgement.
the_mask-342966 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When the judges awarded the win to the team they failed to take into account one thing when they were judging the stress test of the bridges when it came to weight.

Sara and Rodolpho's bridge wasn't actually a connected self supporting bridge structure. It was two separate structures each with less than the full 150 lbs of weight on either side with a severely noticeable gap of at least an inch even two between the two halves of the bridge even when it was fully down. Meaning that they were not actually placing the full weight on the bridge at any given time. With a bridge like that the two ends of the bridge have to be touching and pressing together to form a single supporting road way like when you look at an arch of any other bridge.

In this they failed spectacularly and the judges especially Dr. Co didn't even make mention of it. I think this was purposefully ignored so that the winners could be an immigrant from another country and the fact that the engineer was a member of the LGBT community.

Cindy and Taylor should have won. And the only reason they didn't was cause the driver of the car didn't gun the engine enough to get it up the slope. You can tell he purposefully stopped the forward momentum so that it would fall back and thus fail. Otherwise you would have seen the tires still spinning forwards as it slid back. Which never happened. In fact you seen them actually rolling in reverse.

Shame on you Netflix.

Good but Cringy
sharma_ashnil10 October 2021
Liked the concept of the show. Baking with engineering!! Great creations seen. However it has some downsides.

While it definitely hasn't been shot in one setting, (as evident by the judges being able to change clothes every episode), it's creepy to see the contestants wearing only one set of clothing the whole season!!! It is very, very noticeable. There is NO way that the contestants had to work on the baking/engineering back to back. As soon as one challenge ends, another starts, and queue to next episode where the judges are all dressed up, the contestants are working on their next creation. Are we being lied to? I hope not.

Great show but it hurts to be steve
narsimha-844177 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Except for some intentional cringe comedies by the host, the show is amazing, raises the bar with each competition. I loved most of the contestants expect few that didnt know what they were doing.

Also disclaimer, I will be postponing my space travel until Renee retires.

NICE CONCEPT BUT...
luxuriesandsparkle5 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It is quite entertaining. The concept was great but I think it was focused more on the engineering and designing part and less on baking. One annoying thing is the same clothes for the contestants during the whole season. It was pretty obvious it was shot to appear it was done on the same day for continuity. Come on! Who doesn't sleep? I was hoping when they finally said they have two days to bake so they could rest that they'd be able to change clothes. Still no! Even on the last few episodes up to the finale, Cindy managed to change her hair color but still wears the same clothes! I think next time they could change that. This has a lot of potential but I agree, too much food wastage and the judges were quite boring. Overall, still good.

Let the people change??
modd71117 October 2021
Seriously, The idea of pretending it's one day and not letting them change is such a strange concept.

Even after they mentioned at one point " that's the end of day one" they still came back in the same clothes.

Great Idea For a Show
boingboingluv19 October 2021
I really liked the challenges and layout of the show, the cast was a little bland at moments but thats not really a a turn off. I honestly didn't notice the contestants wearing the same clothes every episode until I read other reviews, but i did sort of notice something going on between Andrew and Justin. I swear Andrew seemed annoyed by him at some points, maybe thats just his personality but it stood out to me. Do prefer when casts have chemistry and no visible tension.

Why did the contestant not change clothes!?
lj-4497310 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great show but I hate how the finale basically forgets all the previous work from other episodes. Also how did the judges not notice Rodolfo's bridge had a huge gap in the middle hence the fact they were not putting bricks in the middle. Shows the bridges weaknesses. Also why did the contestants never change their clothes? I hope they were given good breaks.

Makes me question who we hire at NASA
ryantheredman30 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
How can a NASA employee not understand simple electronics? She gets saved every round too which is wild. I like the concept but some of the middle season challenges are SUPER easy compared to the starting one. Really poor editing trying to not spoil the final product makes you feel like you are watching a long montage with some of the worst engineers they could scrape up.

All in all it is fun to just have on and not really watch except for the last 10 min or so.

it was different
shirlone9 October 2021
If you don't like baking shows you won't like this one either. Personally i liked it. Kind of like nailed it but not quite. The contestants had to know what they were doing on this kind of show. I liked the fact that all the contestants cheered each other on. Fun light show to watch.

Rude judges
staceydowning-6509830 October 2021
Challenges were interesting but the judges were rude ... especially the woman baking judge, she never gave a review without a complaint and was very snooty. Host not funny at all no matter how hard he tried. Don't waste your time on this one.

Loved the Show - WRONG Team Won
jennitruax6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The finale - the winners build looked like a bunch of unskilled kindergartners slapped it together with playdoh and crayons. The artistry and refined quality of the second place team was way beyond! They truly should have won!!!!

Fun enough. My son loves it.
Mr_DWAVID27 November 2022
Sounds like a lot of people in the reviews are either upset about the food waste (I mean, it's a baking show... what were they expecting?) or annoyed about some editing tricks. Here's the deal: it's a baking competition show. They're all cheesy, scripted, and use tricky editing. If you go in with a low bar (as you should for all shows like this) then it's fun enough to watch. My 4 year old son loved this show. It's engineering and baking. What's not to love?? If you have small kids or generally approach the "reality" of these shows like this with a grain (or whopping spoonful) of salt, you'll enjoy it.

Great Entertainment!
godosenteksist22 November 2021
It's funny how this show is both entertaining as well as educational. There are some contestants who actually has some intelligence and skills. Then there are the quota people with zero qualities. Netflix have really scoured the country for the best of the available bakers and engineers, and a how Renee and Shanice can even be on a show is NOT due to skills. I'm assuming they're using Arduino for all engineering, and any person with IQ above 110 can make Arduino work these basic operations, so for those two to not build a single thing makes us women engineers look bad. Renee was/is working for NASA? How?

Apart from those people being dumb, this show is great.

I usually don't watch cooking shows but...
citysubmarine8 November 2021
This show is pretty new and interesting for me. I like the combination of baking and engineering; this combo creates very interesting food. From the start, I liked Cindi&Taylor's group-they are both very cute and quirky, their ideas are very "them".

Scale of the challenges seemed off, too serious
eljay-86 December 2021
I'm not against the idea, but this show needs some refinement. The teams seemed randomly created and this led to some odd pairing between the contestants. Some of the "engineers" in particular were poorly prepared for the show.

Many projects were needlessly big. The apparent food waste was absurd. Why was a build filled with tons of cake? What was the point? If the show wanted some mass in the creations, there were less wasteful ways to do that. There was a huge focus on things edible, except when they decided that steel or electronics were fine.

The food the judges ate were always showpieces that the baker part of the team created and stuck onto the piece somehow. This made the obsession with edible seem a bit strange. I also felt the judges were oddly harsh. The overall contraptions often seemed to be at "Nailed It" level, and then the critique was very serious. Overall the show could have been a lot more fun, but it took itself way too seriously. Editing also fails the show in that it's trying to hide the reveal of the machine, but the same time they aren't really showing what is coming together to make it work.

There is nothing bad about this show!
lindybee218 November 2021
I can't understand why everyone is so bothered about the contestants clothing. It was to help with editing the show and makes complete sense.

It's such an original and fun concept and the casting was perfect. Loved all of the challenges and the contestants were great to watch.

I'm always looking for something I can watch with my kids that isn't offensive or uses bad language so this was a real winner in our house.

So fun, so enjoyable and a must watch!

Interesting concept - zero charisma
werner-1411814 October 2021
The show is an interesting concept but there is little done to make you care about the contestants and the judges are a bore. The feedback from the judges is painful to watch. Also, who created the baker-engineer duos? Most seem so poorly matched.
