Starting From Scratch
robbysheilds27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As the title says, this episode ends up creating characters and its story from scratch, with 0 pre-established characters involved. This makes for a pretty unique episode in that regard, as well as having characters based on a real tribe of people called the Mohawk Nation, who apparently helped with this episode.

In terms of all that, I like how this episode is completely separate from the MCU because of that. I really like the sibling dynamic between Kahhori and Wátha, which was given enough time to make you care about it, as well as Kahhori's motivation to get out of the Sky World.

Speaking of the Sky World, it is a gorgeous place. I like the society that's built there as well as the fruit-hunting game they play. It also helps explain how Kahhori's power grows here, considering the Sky World was made from Tesseract energy.

In terms of the action, I really like it in this episode, with some truly gorgeous shots involved during it, especially when Tesseract Energy is involved, as well as in the Sky World.

All in all, this is a pretty good episode, with some wonderful action, characters, and a great story built from scratch to top it off. I can't wait to see what comes next, especially with the ending of this episode and the previous one.

Amazin Origin Story, Amazing Episode
Tv-Addict199128 December 2023
Yeah, That was a total Suprise To me !

I Loved the Episode and wasnt really prepared for it, it took me by Suprise and i really , really liked it (:

I am really Exited for the Character and if we will see her and her World in Live-Action-Form in the Future. It would be amazing if the Upcoming Echo-MCU-Series will have Connections to it !

The only thing that bugged me were the Subtitles, a few would be ok but not the whole Episode, i hope in the Future there won´t be a lot of subtitles for the Character and her World

Amazing, took me by suprise and thats what i really love

Greetings from Germany.

Really great original story
mbird28 December 2023
Yeah where's the video game for this story? Very good story over all and new character. Would also welcome this character back in some multiverse option. I like the what if stories of events we know but this was very cool too.

Really Like the lead character and setting. Art style as well.

This season overall has been very good. I liked last season but I feel like with some of those obvious what if stories done they had to get creative this year and it worked.

For season 3 would love to see them go back to some earlier time periods. Silver age stuff. Other characters we've heard about in the movies but not seen as much.

Refreshing
j-4059927 December 2023
This episode is a banger . Art style was soo perfect.

I wish marvel to coninue to explore new characters just like KAHHORI . This is what we called a perfect female protagonist lead story . We want these type of story telling from MARVEL STUDIOS and we'll expecting the same in the future. The new lake world feels like we're in a new world similar to AVATAR. And I think we all could agree that spain captian is annoying . I wish this episode would release as a stand alone move( i know they won't). And we also want the episode director or the season runner to continue their work in future. Thanks a lot.

"Genius"
charnelx27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What genius decided to make a Marvel "What if" EP that has not been in any of the Marvel productions previously? The whole point of "What if" is to put a spin on a familiar, not to introduce new. A lot of selections in season 2 have been questionable, focusing on characters that not many are curious about but this takes the cake.

Its like those eps of the mandalorian dropped in the middle of book of boba fett. Where the eps arguably ok? Yes but they did not belong there.

Choice to have most of the episode subtitled also did not help. Again, I watch a lot of things subtitled but it was not what I was expecting to do when I set down to watch this so it had an effect on my enjoyment.

Story wise wise I was unimpressed. Kahhori knew better then the elders so she went on seeking a cursed lake. Things happened, she ended up in a paradise world, tried to escape and got distracted by being better at magic then everyone else there, hunting plant/crystals and having a party. Then the Spanish attacked again and she was remined that she cant just remain in paradise and ignore people suffering outside (unlike another fictional nation) so she bent the plain to her will and went back to the regular world while retaining all her powers. In classical fashion she gave a big speech to other to come fight with her but no one did but then they showed up in the most critical moment. After the battle she teleported to Spain, humiliated the queen and said all would know of her peaceful ways, by force. Plus she brought a blanket for trade to show peace was more beneficial.

I think you can draw your own conclusions form this summery.

Fantastic!
m_oleyar28 December 2023
That MARVEL is creating new characters based on indigenous peoples from North America is so heartwarming. Native American culture should be celebrated by all. Being of indigenous descent I am so glad to see Native Americans making an impact on popular culture. The story was one of courage in the face of adversity, apathy, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles. That MARVEL collaborated with indigenous groups and cultural institutions in the making of this episode is a good thing to see. That MARVEL hired indigenous actors and used their language to create this was refreshing. Yes people, you will have to read the subtitles. Now let's see a major motion picture based on these characters.

Best marvel character ever yet!
keganwager27 December 2023
Kahhori is by far my favorite character. I love her story. I love her powers and her abilities. And the I love the setting in her story. Her family is so very nice. And she finally got her first villain in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Please pretty please make a movie or a spinoff TV show about her what a cool character. I rate this episode the best. Very good job. Well done. I am very impressed of this episode. I can not wait to see what's next in Kahhori's future in the Marvel's universe. The best one yet I can't wait for the next episode of What If Tomorrow #whatifthebestshowever. Marvel heck.

Rushed introduction
gabrielmikhno27 December 2023
So, this was good. Not a bad episode. It was a neat introduction to a character and I respect the attention to detail and language in this episode. The art style was awesome to look at! And I loved how different it was from the other episodes of what if...?

The issue here was, this was way too rushed. This should have been a movie and instead they tried to do world and character building in less than 30 min. The powers of the character felt unearned, which is especially important when there is a whole village with these same powers and you want to establish this character as the most important one. Also at the fault of the run time, she immediately becomes powerful. She's like a better version of Captain Marvel. She's not annoying, but still doesn't feel human. Once again, they should've killed off her brother in the beginning to create a more emotional resonance with character, and that would have gave her a more satisfying arc. This season is keeping it safe with not going to dark. Next time stick to a what if with a character we know, and then take them to an unexpected place so we can see something new. Like Strange Supreme episode, T'Challa Star Lord, Captain Carter, and even Tony Stark when he crashed into Sakar. Those episodes changed and added on to those characters, dare I say creating new ones in the process.

But overall enjoyable episode. Can't wait to see how these episodes tie together.

This episode feels like classic Disney cartoon. Like Pocahonthas.
kkluba-0529027 December 2023
This episode was briliant. I never thought modern Disney can put something like that bringing me nostalgia of classic Disney cartoon. It gave me a lot of Pocahonthas vibes. It makes me happy that Disney truly tried to do something new.

I wish majority of modern Disney tried to do stuff like this instead of wasting their money into countless of lazy live action remakes where only good was Jungle Book, Maleficent, Alladin and Beauty & Beast.

It didn't feel like Marvel cartoon but classic cartoon. I know it's superhero company but glad to see Marvel pulling stuff like this.

Love Kahorii btw. She is such a great character and actually creative, enjoyable and kinda cool unlike boring cast of entire Eternals movie, Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, Rambeau or Hawkeye.

Hyped to see another episode with her again.

The only episode half interesting....
therealjaysmoke7 January 2024
This is the only episode that was half interesting. It wasn't full of childish scripts, heroes who didn't take their assignment serious and a story that actually had a soul! I don't understand how they could have missed it completely from the first season.

What can I say, maybe it was meant for children, but I am sure even kids wont understand anything in this series except for the episode. I just couldn't.

No serious risks, no deaths, no injuries, no commitments. It's like watching Tom and Jerry, only thing is, Tom and Jerry was actually funny because it was expected to be that.

Can we just go back to the way things where before all these multiverse madness?!

Beautiful Mohawk language wrong colonizer
hectorwpadilla11 January 2024
Extensive care went into researching and correctly representing the Mohawk Native American culture of what is now mostly New York in the 15th century.

The problem: Marvel and by default Disney did not take the same level of care by hiding behind a " It's a What IF" episode in a series as an excuse for painting the Spanish as the villains when it should've been either the English ( French or Dutch ). There was no need to set the time around the late 15th century. The level of disrespect portraying the Queen of Spain Isabella when she did the exact opposite of how's she's portrayed in the episode- the disrespect is equal in showing Queen Elizabeth I of England in the same fashion. The Spanish build and formed a culture and civilization by including and mixing with natives - the English did it by dislodging and exterminating.

Cool episode, boring powerset
thomblackburn8911 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We have a new hero with vague powers (can stop bullets mostly, run fast and jump high and occasionally gets favors from the earth), that look uninteresting (lights to keep the CGI cheap if she makes it to the MCU-proper), in a mostly okay origin story. I appreciate that the entire episode lacks English (until the end). I'd love to see kahhori in a story with namor where she actually works through her revenge quest (which she inexplicably gives up on when meeting the queen of Spain at the end of the episode) and converts namor to work together with others that have been colonized eventually joining with wakanda.

New OP character with 0 internal conflict/development
yueileen-6768030 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Isn't what if suppose to be a spin on current cast of MCU characters but an alternative story? Why suddenly a new character added? Huh?

The graphics were good, its the only thing that's good about this episode. The main character kahhori is just another bland OP female hero. She has NO internal conflict to overcome. NO character development. She has NO flaws whatsoever. Her reason to exist is protecting her brother and people, which is the only thing going for her. Literally she is goes from a dedicated no power character to an OP character that literally that doesn't go through any change.

External conflict. Yea it's the war. But that all is used to propel her character from having 0 powers to OP powers.

Dunno how people think she's a good character. Kahhori is NO where near a good character that goes through the classic 'heroes journey'.

Cool origin story, great art style. Lighten up people!
jacklegg1 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Some of the complaints about this episode are baffling, especially given the context of the show. To anyone complaining about altering history, i.e the Spanish being the oppressors rather than the British, remember this is a series about ALTERNATE universes. It's literally the point of the series to subvert the norm and change major aspects of stories.

Anyone complaining about the main character being a "Mary Sue", please tell me why this moniker is applied to any female protagonist who shows a high level of competence, yet the thousands upon thousands of male protagonists who do the same thing are just badasses? Of course she learned her powers quickly, there are 3 distinct acts in this 30 minute story, it had to move at breakneck pace. If it was the male character that went through the portal and became a badass, there would be no such complaints.

To people annoyed about the language and subtitles, remember English is not the only language in the world. As someone who is sick of jarring modern American accents in inappropriate historical settings I was very happy to hear authentic languages in this. Taking half a second to read some subtitles is a small price to pay.

Overall great episode and I'm enjoying this series a lot so far, I hope they bring Kahhori into live action at some point. Very intrigued by supreme strange at the end too, excited to see how that will play out later on in the series.

We need more like this!
thelostspy00728 December 2023
This episode was way too short. Kahhori was awesome! I've never read the Marvel comics so it wasn't until after the episode that I discovered she is a new hero. We need more new content like this Marvel. This was such a great episode they should make a TV series with her in it either animated or live action.

One thing I don't understand though is how the space stone gives such a wide range of powers. Captain Marvel gained her powers from it and so did Kahhori but the powers imbued from the stone appear to give a different set of powers to different people?

The fact almost all the lines in this episode are in Spanish or whatever language Kahhori spoke was a very nice touch.

Amazing story.
zekechase28 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was an amazing episode. A strong female lead and great support characters. This needs a movie all of its own. There aren't many shows when I feel the villain got what was coming to them, but the main antagonist definitely deserves it as did the queen. Like another commenters said, it almost felt like when we first see Pandora in Avatar for the first, that's how the Skyworld felt. I'm very excited to see why the darker version of Dr Strange was seeking her out, but if I had to hazard a guess, it has to either do with the tesseract or getting access to Skyworld to further enhance his powers in some way.

What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?
Prismark108 April 2024
With the underwhelming Marvel Echo series. Marvel also dipped their toes on Indigenous tribes in this What If... story.

In this alternate reality. The Tesseract lands in pre colonial Americas where it fell to the bottom of the lake. The lake was known for its special properties. After so many people disappeared, it became known as the Forbidden Lake, now deemed lost.

Only Kahhori a native Mohawk stumbles upon it with her brother when feeling the Spanish Conquistadors. The Spanish are looking for the Fountain of Youth, the fabled lake imbued with Tesseract magic.

With Kahhori transported to the magical Sky World. She harness her new powers and manages to return home. Deemed impossible by those enjoying immortality in Sky World. Kahhori is determined to save her people from the conquerors.

Thes story introduces a new character. It is in the Mohawk language and Spanish so you need subtitles unless you speak those languages.

The animation was very good here and the story had a touch of Avatar in it.

Good but unrelated
rseregin2 January 2024
This would have been amazing as a one off somewhere in between other shows. There's a lot of potential, but there's just no backstory or any way for us to connect with a character and story this far along with nothing.

Granted, I'm not into the comic books, but I'm a big fan of the MCU and comic book movies in general, and other than the idea of the tesseract, there's nothing I know about it.

Yea, I'll probably look some characters and details up now, but that's just out of spite and ADHD.

I'd like to see more of this story, but not in the middle of what should realistically be more of a comfort show, especially when it's released at this time of year. Maybe that's just me though.

So, the art was beautiful, the story was intriguing, and I'd like to see more, but I wish it wasn't in this anthology.

Fountain of Youth
southdavid5 March 2024
Another change of pace here for "What If". Again, we're not exactly answering a specific "What If" change but exploring a whole different storyline with a new character, that continues the relationship between Marvel and Indigenous tribes that began with "Echo".

Kahhori (Devery Jacobs) is fleeing from the Conquistadors when she is shot and falls into an underground lake. The Lake is imbued with the power of the Tesseract, which was destroyed in an earlier than expected Ragnarök event on Asgard. Kahhori is reunited with other members of her tribe, long since deemed to have disappeared, who enjoy enhanced powers now but are unable to return home. She, though, is more determined than they to get back as she knows the peril that her village faces.

With the exception of a line of dialogue at the end, which again points towards the potential future of the series, and the narration from The Watcher - this episode is entirely subtitled. The story is more traditionally Marvel than many other have been and are essentially an origin story for this new character. It's never fully explained where they are transported to by the Tesseract power or why it seems to choose some people to receive its gifts but not others, nor exactly what the powers are beyond a series of enhancements.

This is fine, and again the animation looks good. It feels like the way of introducing this character that the wider series needs to reach a conclusion perhaps. I guess we'll see how it pans out over the rest of this run.

Mary Sue
ronaldsanchez-4028428 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What was meant to be a good episode to talk about a very serious topic as America's colonization and the harm Europeans did to natives, turns to be a story where a Mary Sue with no experience or idea about how to use/control superpowers becomes the best of the tribe and their new leader in the blink of an eye. It happens that the newcomer, in this new world, turns to be stronger, faster and better than other people who have been living there for years. This is what is happening in todays movies/series. Lazy writers who prefer the easy way, instead of developing a character with a good plot and intelligence. What kind of Rey Palpanite (not Skywalker) is this?

Marvel... Officially... COOKS. 🗿
simonebrimhall2 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode rocks. Granted it's not relevant to Marvel or anything from the Infinity Saga. But it's still good. Ranking this second season's episodes, this one is an S tier for me. Enlightening, hopeful, poetic, sympathetic, and incredibly righteous. I... LOVE IT!!

The way this episode has composed itself; especially with the theme of Asgards fall and the rise of the Native American pantheon's rise to cosmic power, I love where the screenwriters are going with this. If they keep this up, I guarantee you that they'll finally be nominated for an Oscar Award. Proving that the MCU is not as dead and bad as everyone else claims it is.

Overall, the best ranking episode of the second season. 😁

Pocahontas
sophsky5 February 2024
This episode is just Pocahontas with magic blue floaty glowies. It isn't Marvel. The only links to Marvel are the tesseract and an absolutely bizarre cameo from Dr Strange that didn't really make sense. There was zero character development, she just appeared and was amazing and saved the world. Also the entire episode is in foreign languages so you have to read subtitles, which isn't why I watch TV. If I want to read, I'd get the comics or a book.

The only reason anyone is going to say good things about this episode is because they hate men and white people, as is the fashion in 2024.

A waste of time and money.

Refreshing With unique atmosphere
minanageh28 December 2023
I loved everything about the episode, it no longer felt like watching marvel , but some well thought after standalone animation.

And going back to that past has that weird cozy touch.

In delving into the intricacies of this particular episode, one cannot help but marvel at the seamless blend of creativity and storytelling prowess that transformed the viewing experience into something far beyond the typical Marvel fare. The episode, with its meticulously crafted animation, transcended the boundaries of conventional superhero narratives, offering a refreshing and unique standalone tale that captivated audiences from start to finish.

From the opening scenes, it was evident that this was not just another episode; it was a cinematic masterpiece in the realm of animation. The visual aesthetics were nothing short of stunning, with each frame meticulously designed to evoke emotions and convey a narrative that felt both familiar and entirely fresh. The animators' attention to detail was unparalleled, and every frame seemed to be a work of art in its own right.

A very good episode
minanhat730 December 2023
The best thing of the whole episode was the fact the characters spoke with their native language. I loved the narative what if the natives would have the edge over the european conquerors. What if the natives would have conquered europe. And finally marvel disney created a New interesting character.. love to see more of her. And i think the whole what if series is one of the best things disney have created after the end game movie... i guess we will see more storylines of the what if series in the upcoming movies. Hope to see the zombie storyline in the near future or strange supreme. I certainly hope marvel disney have learned from their previous mistakes.

Amazing
pauli_gomez29 January 2024
I was not very happy with Season 2 of this show, but this episode was great. It is excellent that they use the original languages. I do not know the mohawk language, but the Spanish was good if a little stiff, perhaps because according to IMDB the main Spanish speakers of the episode were actors from Latin America and not from Spain (shame, is it really so difficult to find some cast from Spain?). Then, I think the setting was refreshing, original and the Sky World looks amazing. I was going to complain about the conquistadores searching the Fountain of Youth in Mohawk territory, which I do not think is accurate, but then I thought that in the universe of the episode there were probably legends about the Forbidden Lake that some Spaniards could have heard. So, they oriented their search accordingly. So no complains! I actually want to see more of Kahhori.
