Very specific jokes for Chicago audience
gregkut-245-77171423 September 2021
The CPA Twitter fees has been really funny for years. The show is decent and has a few good laughs, but is very specific for a Chicago audience and for people who grew up in pre2000's Chicago, when Chicago was full of blue collar SNL Super Fan types. A few nitpick details - Diane should be from the Southside or south suburbs.

MADtv has been ripped off
stcoldcrzy24 October 2021
Diane is a clone of Nicole Sullivan's mad tv sketches. I think that's why others reviews say it's like 90s comedy...

Overhated but still nothing to write home about
jakewc23317 September 2021
Man, you would not BELIEVE the amount of backlash this show got when it was first announced. When the first images of the show were released online, people VERY quickly attacked this show for (aside from this being based off of a Twitter account) being a "generic adult animated comedy", which I always hated the stereotype of. The stereotype that "all adult cartoons look the same" and that "Family Guy is to blame for the downfall of modern adult animation", which is NOT true, by the way. There are plenty of good adult cartoons out there, you guys just aren't looking hard enough. And yes, adult toons with "that" art-style can be really funny at times (i.e. Disenchantment, Duncanville, Final Space etc.). Come on, guys. Be fair for once.

Oh, and about Chicago Party Aunt. It's alright. It's not amazing but it occasionally has its moment or 2. There's not really that more to say about it. 6.7/10.

Unfortunate, not funny
TikkiMia21 September 2021
What year was this written? It feels quite dated and like the writers just recycled old jokes from the 90's. Such a shame Netflix gave this show a season and got rid of so many other good shows.

It's not garbage, BUT, It's also not gold
teatimmy18 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've binged both Big Mouth and Paradise PD. Two very different adult cartoons on Netflix. I think Chicago Party Aunt, quality wise, fits pretty good between.

It's that kinda comedy you either love or you hate. It's that kinda comedy that often tries to be raunchy and get you cringing at the absurd gags. But, it also has surprisingly good characters, a great voice cast with dialogue and humor that reflects such.

That being said, it's also kinda like F is for Family in the sense it has this specific culture and perspective that often goes over my head.

I'm not from the Midwest, I know very little about Chicago other than what I see on television. But I love the accents, I love the energy, even though there are many jokes and references I don't think are for me specifically BUT for an audience knowledgeable about Chicago.

Doesn't mean it's not fun to watch. It was a great binge with Rupaul of all voices to really sell it for me.

A jumbled mess of clichés masquerading as a comedy show, pure garbage.

Niche audience show
BoxwoodExpress19 September 2021
I expressed disdain at the show when it was announced, mainly for being based on a Twitter gimmick account (yes, really) and for having that samey adult animation style. I finally watched it, and it's surprisingly not bad.

I'm not from Chicago, so take my opinions here with a grain of salt.

Voice Acting - 2/2. You can't go wrong with Lauren Ash. I loved her as Scorpia in She-Ra, and she brings a lot of life to Diane.

Characters - 1/2. Diane is a hard-drinking, partying hedonist with a disheveled lifestyle. When her nephew comes to live with her, the show sets up an arc about learning to care for others. Pretty interesting.

Writing - 1/2. Again, you'll only really appreciate it if you're from Chicago yourself.

Animation - 1/2. Yet another show with the generic adult animation art style. Like with The Harper House, you could make this into a live action sitcom and nothing would change.

Music - 1/2. The rock soundtrack is great, but it's another victim of the lack of a theme song and a generic title card intro.

Hot garbage
sdpfnqwe20 September 2021
These comments praising the show have to be bots or the weirdos from her Twitter account. The show is just a female Bojack with a Chicago accent without any of the depth. I don't know what even possesses someone to get a team together and create something this awful.

The simple yet addictively funny short sitcoms of a wild aunt being a bad influence tk her nephew lol. Superb and for adults. Recommended.
sisubalan20 December 2022
Embraced the value of family and friends. Relatable storyline and smooth progression. Big fan of the bright tone-ish setup for an adult animation. Reminds me of family guy and many other sitcoms.

This sitcom is really good. Literally every episodes made me burst out laughing. Great episodial plotting, that was a bit relatable but made in the extremely dramatic way. Great voice castings and clean characters design. Few glimpses of action, dark humour, romances but entirely packed with adult comedies. Amazing dialogues/writtings and the intro track was pretty dope too.

Each episode runs about 20 to 30 minutes, which wasnt enough for me tbh. Binge watched the whole season in a day. Very addictive and highly recommended to adults. This is totally not for childrens.

90s style comedy - you had to be there.
smithnumber9 October 2021
Drawing from the successful Rick and Morty template, CPA teams awkward gay nephew Daniel with his banged-out party aunt Diane in this surprisingly entertaining adult cartoon. A lot of the criticism of this show is that it's comedy is dated and it is, but I think that's the point. I was young in the 90s so it resonates with me but I can see how younger viewers would find it tiresome. She's not likeable and likeability seems to be key in keeping the younger demographic.

While it's great that no big deal is made out of the nephew being gay, it also limits the storyline. If the nephew were a straight young woman it could've have opened up lots of possibilities for comparisons of men, dating, love and sex norms between the generations. The aunt could hang out with the nieces friends and see herself as some sort of Samantha from Sex and The City. Instead, we get the aunt taking Daniel to a gay bar on Halloween so he can have his first kiss, which was just silly. I'm pretty sure that any gay man can get that taken care of on an app.

Still, I found myself giggling at the show and the subtle visual puns - notice how the new-age manager of the juice bar is colored much paler than the other characters. Overall, it's a cute show that needs more contrasting characters to maintain longevity.

I'm a native Chicagoan. This is hot fawkn garbage. I tried, I really did. Made it to the 3rd episode and couldn't go any further. Stale inside jokes that only Chicagoans would get. It's a really bad ripoff of Peter Griffin. The Chicago centric comedy gets old really fast.

The Mighty B Done Right
tommypezmaster23 November 2021
Diana showed us that she does have a heart and will do anything in her power to set things right for them. I'm also dead serious that this should replace The Mighty B on Nick rewind. Cause this show is an underrated classic. The Mighty B (pleas do not get offended by what I'm going to call it, it's true anyways) is a short-lived critical and commercial failure. Diana is everything Bessie should've been.

If you can look past the terrible accent, it's actually not bad
jonathanconti30 September 2021
The over the top trashy Chicago accents made me want to turn it off. But if you can get past that and actually give the story and dialogue a chance, it's a pretty well written show. Lauren Ash won me over. It's different, fun.

So who is the target audience for this show?
springeraldmeza19 September 2021
Not all things on Netflix are bad, but when it's bad it's bad. To get something labeled "Adult Animation" we need to check of an overuse of the F-bomb, brief nudity and controversial topics. It's all good if it's in good taste, for example "Hoops" was in bad taste, so we have a male in his mid 40s who is a basketball coach/ gym teacher who life is falling apart around him, try to find meaning in his pathetic life through teaching kids the art of basketball by using the F-bomb over and over.

"Big Mouth" is in good taste and if you have not seen it, go watch it.

Now, this show is about a woman in her mid-40s living in Chicago whose life is upside down because she can't let go of her party-filled past so she perpetuates her lifestyle over and over on to others no matter the situation. If people can relate to this, then this is the show for you.

Good thing it's on Netflix...
Darwinskid19 September 2021
...Because if it was anywhere else it would've been cancelled after its first episode.

Another bland, flat, and uninteresting animated sitcom about a human train wreck and the more common sensed people in their life who try to keep her from going even further off the deep end. Where have I seen this before? Oh, right, almost everywhere else in a comedy, animated or live-action. Maybe this sort of show would have done well 20 years ago, but this kind of content is so common-place these days there really isn't anything new to offer for the viewer.

BEWARE - See at your own risk.

I like that they make fun of Chicagoans
Erik_Stone20 September 2021
Chicago has as many crazies as all the other Democrat run cities, but they are crazy in their own, unique way.

I really enjoyed seeing this specialized comedy. Being from the Midwest, I got 98% of the jokes.

It's not constant laughter, and the best jokes are rare, as it should be, but there are at least 8, super hilarious jokes that I had to pause the show for, and just laugh.

Most West and East coast, "Woke" folks won't like this show, even if they live in Chicago now. It's really for the people that grew up in the Midwest.

Had potential
sierra-dell-1829 October 2021
I'm 6 episodes in, this adult cartoon has potential but the biggest flaw is a likeable main character.

We all can enjoy an a**hole main character, but there has to be some part that the viewer really enjoys about this person, some side of them that makes them actually compassionate even in a small way... this show has good moments but the main character is just annoying.

Hot mess
cvfdchief22 June 2022
Hott mess, over done, worn and tired feeling and this is coming from someone that loves South Park, Rick and Morty, Family Guy and Big Mouth.. If you want to watch something similar but well done from north of the boarder may I suggest "Fugget About It" !.. way better and not like this where every joke has to be spelled out and shoved in your face.

UK reviewer and some jokes I didn't understand. Definitely an alternative to family guy etc. If you like rude, crude and stupid jokes, then definitely you'll find this funny. Hoping for a 2nd season thanks netflix.

Had to give a second chance..
nohats1218 November 2021
The show almost lost me after the first episode. Maybe one or two things were funny the rest of it was just crude in the hopes of being funny. Second episode cruder than the first one but was actually funnier. Here in lies the problem with this series for me. Not consistent enough for my taste. I found it worked best for me as background while I was working in the shop and would occasionally catch the really funny parts. Most of the actors doing voices in the show are people that I really enjoy in their other endeavors. Oh and I knocked the point off for making fun of Led Zeppelin fans, lol.

Meh
lawrencelawrence8619 September 2021
Adult animation has become a 50/50 affair. I love some of the efforts over the last 15 years but recent attempts have left me flat due to lack of ideas and weak content. The hunger to get new programs out by different providers has definitely diluted the shows, I'm sure this will get an audience but enough to get more seasons seems doubtful.

If you're not familiar with the cultural references (and stereotypes), it may not be very funny. But if you get them, it's pretty damn funny and there are a LOT of them. Quite creative, really.

Embarrassing Portrayal Of Chicago
JuYoAvGi21 September 2021
I was born and raised in Chicago, and I don't know anyone who talks or acts like these people. The Chicago accent being used is ridiculous and over the top. Some of the way their words are pronounced sounds similar, but no one in Chicago has an accent that thick. I gave up after 3 episodes. Give this show a miss.
