The main storyline is developing in an interesting way but there are a lot of weird scenes that seem to only serve the purpose of being grunge and dark.

This entire series so far has me riveted. I feel like a bit may be lost in translation, but for me that only adds to the mystery and magic of it all. It's so refreshing to have something new and exciting in the supernatural realm and not just tired reworkings of the Western views on vampires and demons. I've been intrigued with Slavic mythology ever since the teaser bits in Gaiman's American Gods and this is giving me even more to want to research and learn.
The gloomy, gritty atmosphere pulls you right into the tone of the story and creates foreboding and a wonderful sense of the weird. Another reviewer keeps saying "weird" like it was a bad thing. If I didn't want weird, I wouldn't watch things like this. It's weird in the old senses of uncanny, supernatural, and destiny.
The revelation about Alex's origins and purpose in this episode are a very exciting and satisfying culmination of the build-up we've gotten in the first three. I can hardly wait to see what happens next!
