Leo should be back forever
chaya-497559 September 2021
Drag queens & flaming! Leo is the funniest character on Days, though a bunch of others have better lines than they usually do. This show has been way more fun than real Days has been in a long time. No whining, a story line that's improbable but moves along fast, and maybe sex scenes that go on for a bit too long, but feature gay and straight. I'm sorry it's limited - I hate the thought of only having draggy Days to watch.

Oh JFC Why am I Watching This
HelloBlockbuster13 July 2022
Growing up, I was forced to watching DOOL with my mother after work (ya know, cuz she used to set the VCR to record it every weekday). I haven't watched DOOL since the 90s, and it's clear that a lot has transpired but yet, everything is still the same-except for maybe the confusion I'm having over Carrie calling someone other than Marlena "mom", but such is daytime soaps. They have to make up insanely unbelievable storylines to spice it up without changing actors. Lol

Okay so this Beyond Salem thing. IT IS BEYOND CHEESY. Like worse than the 90s DOOL cheesy. Yet, here I am watching it (or allowing it to play) because I don't know how to delete it from my history on Peacock. I don't want to see it constantly in my continue to watch, so I'm letting it play.

Listen, if you're a glutton for insanely cheesy, unbelievable, laughable shows-this is for you!

That said, there are a handful actors in this who have actually gone on to do other work and excel beyond that of the stereotypical daytime soap opera actor skills. (Charles Shaughnessy, Jackée Harry)

I'm dying inside as this is playing. D-Y-I-N-G!

I Didn't Expect the Camp
michelef-913626 September 2021
I've never seen Days of Our Lives but thought I'd check this one out because I like the silly guilty pleasures of soap operas.

I admire the writers for soaps. The fact they can keep the storylines going for ages when most issues can be resolved by asking the correct question 2 seconds later intrigues me. As someone who knows nothing about these characters going in, the writers have done a good job in bringing viewers up to speed in the character vignettes of the first episode.

My 7-star rating is for the acting being pretty bad; I expected a little better. This is a soap opera so if you don't have ability to get past watching a soap, you probably won't enjoy this.

If you're a soap opera fan this will be a silly pleasure to watch with your favorite snack and tune out of life for about 50 minutes.

The storyline of season 1 is fun and I'll keep watching it for the campy-ness, hoping the acting improves.

Drag queens, housewives and old school DOOL feels
jbombassaro10 September 2021
This is everything I wanted it to be. I couldn't be happier watching this. Love seeing old favorite characters and actresses that use to play favorite characters. If you have been watching DOOL since you were a kid with your Nana like me, this is TV GOLD. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Even Better Than The Main Show
rebel57 September 2021
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. It's a fun, tight little action-adventure series developed exclusively for Peacock bringing together some old and new faces. Peacock may have a hit on their hands. Hopefully it gets future seasons.

jersr-2077115 September 2021
I did not expect to like this show, as many of the other reviews stated. I've been left actually wanting to see more!! NBC/Peacock please order more episodes of this show, quickly! Here's to more "Beyond Salem," soon, at least I hope. 😊

I Love The Campiness Should Do At Every Holiday Changing Seasons
davidsask14 September 2021
This was fun, hope creator, staffing continue to stream. Bring some curious in. I wonder how they do ratings on Peacock? It can't be much more expensive than regular show?! We must have extreme new Sonny daytime, even if involves Will for some.

Wasn't expecting any new sets of budget. I must stress that our soap eliminate the brightest fake green shrubbery and then 2-3 people in front nasty close-up. Please listen.

Billy had her welcome back with Lisa but this once enough. Was odd they chose series around her, didn't need to. The only roles I need in this for next series are Kate, Gabby, Jake, Abby. Until someone new substantial enters. Remainder can exit, Maybe have Sammy do arc around her make her primary.

It's cheap and tacky...and great fun for old time DOOL fans!
tmichaelny@aol.com13 September 2021
It started off slow for me....like watching grains of sand through an hourglass! John and his over-the-top dramatic grimaces were never a favorite of mine. So to have him open the show was a bit ho-hum, even if it did involve the great Maxwell Sheffield, I mean Charles Shaughnessy as Shane Donovan. And once you brought in the legendary Jackée Henry, The acid-tongued Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) and my all-time personal favorite Leann Hunley, how could it not be a hoot?

No, this is not "The Crown" and I don't think that was it's purpose. It's a silly mystery with typical soap turns and false starts. But it brings back many Days alumni. Seeing Eileen Davidson back as Kristin DiMera brought a smile to my face. She IS Kristen. I enjoyed seeing Will and I was surprised that I actually preferred the new Sonny. Zack Tinker made the character more three dimensional. I thought the Will-Sonny chemistry was more believable. I also liked going back in time and seeing Carrie and Austin. (Why did they not get included in the beginning credits!??) Consider this a kind of reunion show and you'll enjoy it. The cheapo sets mixed are mixed with lots of stock glamor clips of the cities they are supposed to be in. The story line is cheesy and the "I gotcha scenes" are laughable. That's what makes soaps fun!

Don't Waste Your Time

Horrible acting! Now you can see why Lisa R is on reality tv. Editing and sound seem off. It's as bad as the network show.

Hope it would continue & spill over to Main screen
khill-1409710 September 2021
I loved having Billy Reed back & the Orginal Kristen Dimeria!!! I felt like it was the Old "Days" minus the city hopping, but I loved it! It felt like "Family" again!

A Cheap Offshoot of DOL
chalaowens25 July 2022
Find the cheapest trinket you can in a Big Lots clearance bin, then compare it to this show. Ths trinket wins.

I stopped watching DOL several years ago but thought this might be a fun place to catch up on some longtime characters. Good Lord, Beyond Salem is painfully bad. Embarrassingly bad.. Bad bad bad acting, sets, writing storyline, and beyond believable "coincidences.

Cringeworthy.

Drake Hodgsen still can't act. The actress who plays Abe's lady friend mugs her way through the script. Tony Demera has no backbone. That is just a start. Even Marlena can't rescue this.

Beyond Salem is an insult to DOL's decades of being a quality daytime drama.

Loved Beyond Salem!
CathyS0261524 November 2021
I have to say that i was impressed and enjoyed the series quite a lot. My favorite part was seeing Chandler Massey's Will again! Truly, it is always a pleasure and very exciting to see him back as Will Horton, on DOOL. I thought he did really well on Beyond Salem; especially as the dray queen 'Amanda Bottom'. His dance was really good! In fact the whole Arizona storyline was enjoyable and i had a really good laugh. I thought that Chandler had good chemistry with the new actor playing Sonny. The shower scene was hot and sexy, and left me wanting more. I also love Will's dynamic with Leo and Chad (they were great too and really funny). I would really like to see more of Will and Sonny on the main show! Chandler's Will especially needs to be back full time because he has a good rapport with a lot of his family and friends currently on canvas. I believe as a legacy character who has been driving stories since his conception/birth, should be a character around on canvas to drive further stories. I would also love to see his daughter, Arianna, back too.

Additionally, it was great seeing Carrie back. I love her rapport with her family and i would like to see her visiting the main show too.

Overall, the production quality was great. I love the sets, the lighting, the humorous dialogue, the wardrobe, and the umbrella story of finding the missing jewels to save the world. Also, 10/10 alone for the drag and sex party stories, those were fun. I miss adventure, problem-solving stories and i think DOOL should do more of them.

To conclude, I would love to have another spin-off, and i know that i am being greedy when i say that i would love it if Chandler was a part of it again. :)

I want more!
mycull-231-1229089 January 2022
Really wished they stretched it out to 8 episodes or more. Days should really bring Will and new Sonny back to Salem. Chad really played his part well. If Days were smart, they would make sure Ben and Ciara sign on for another 3 to 5 years.

It would be fun to go Beyond Salem a few times a year. For Hallowe'en they could start out as the current characters, then change them to the stars that previously played them. Sean played by Jason Cook. Abby by Kate Mansi...etc. And bring back a few dead characters. Would love to see Nick, Jordan and others again.

Acting Optional
louieyoho6 September 2021
I streamed on a whim because it popped up on app; I watched maybe 10 minutes and turned off. Acting was notably lacking and it seemed like it had cheesy potential. Maybe if you like drag queens, look alikes, bad acting it maybe good for your enjoyment.

Good show, but disappointed in the look
jtungsten1619 September 2021
With the limited series format and being that it was on the platform Peacock, I was hoping that the look of the show would be different, like shot like a real series, instead of the cheap looking way it always looks. I would of taken full advantage of changing the way it's traditionally shot and made it look more like a movie. The acting and story is good, just the look sucked.
