It changed my mind.
dcsmith-0501626 August 2021
I didn't want to watch this but curiosity got the better of me, I always somehow felt sorry for Bruce - he was spoken to badly on television and surrounded by women that are obsessed with fame and other than Kris being exceptionally gifted in marketing her children for doing nothing but holding a name that their celebrity lawyer father gave them , there really is no substance in the Kardashians. This documentary showed me where he came from and gave us a view of how he got there, what drove him and what was truly bugging him throughout his life. I was angry when I heard she won the woman of the year award so I had made up my mind about how I felt about her transition (there is more to being a woman than putting on a dress and if you aren't born as one I believe you won't fully comprehend what it is like). This doc sheds new light on his past, his struggle to accept himself and for others to accept him, I had no idea he had another son! Seems like a nice guy. I appreciated that it was focused on Bruce at first and then showed Caitlyn - it is well made and doesn't veer off into the charade of his famous kids. It was almost wholesome. I wish her a happy life and I feel sad that it took her so long to get here.

Well told story
Calicodreamin1 September 2021
An unexpectedly good documentary, keeping the focus on Jenner and how being trans affected his drive in the Olympics. The story was well told, both from Jenner and from the documentary footage. The other interviews were relevant and stayed on focus.

Not Caitlyn's Story
marymcfarland-0186628 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I gave this a 5 because it was interesting to go back and relive the Bruce Jenner story. I watched it to see the Caitlyn story. I didn't get that. This documentary is telling the Bruce Jenner story from the 76 Olympics. This does not really tell a trans story. So....if you're looking for some deep trans thing, you're not getting it here. If you want an Olympic throw back...you'll get it.

More Bruce than Caitlin
3xHCCH27 August 2021
This transitioning of Bruce Jenner -- the all-American hero, the greatest athlete in the world -- into Caitlin Jenner has got to be one of the most unbelievable pop culture events in recent years. This documentary revisits Jenner's road to the Olympic Decathlong gold medal in 1976 event by event, and this definitely brought back to my admiration of him as an athlete back then.

It is just too bad that the exact process of his transitioning and his present life as Caitlin was not tackled with as much detail as his past life as Bruce. The participation of Bruce's first wife Chrystie and his first son Burt was quite moving. That Bruce's inner ordeals were narrated by Caitlin Jenner herself made it all the more interesting and intimate. 7/10.

A true piece of American Athletic History
sacard-1392622 July 2022
Not at all a Kardashian or Kardashian-Jenner family piece. I thought I'd get more of an inside look at the drama of how Caitlin came out to her family, but I didn't - and I am surprisingly 100% ok with that. I am not a sports person at all, but the deep look into a life of someone who is struggling in the silence, fighting to prove themselves to the world is a true masterpiece. The amount of raw footage they had in their time capsule to pull from, completely blew me away. I would say I wasn't/am not a Bruce/Caitlin fan - I'd even go as far to say I dislike them. But this doc is a must see!

Nice

A wonderfully put together documentary! It's split in two. Her Olympic journey and then into her transition. I didn't know much about Caitlin, but this documentary open my eyes to what she's been through and how hard she fought to become a gold Olympic medalist! Great hours worth of tv.

Told: Bruce Jenner
dodeca-6491624 August 2021
It's basically a documentary about Bruce Jenner wanting to win. There is nothing "untold" about Caitlyn Jenner that we haven't already seen in the media. The last 15 minutes are about the transition into Caitlyn Jenner. There are no interesting insights about her except from her first-born son who appears to accept Caitlyn more than she accepts herself.

Throwback of "Bruce Jenner's Olympic Journey"
TERA-FUFFAD2 September 2021
Its a documentary about Bruce Jenner wanting to win Olympic decathlon gold, which is good and inspiring.

There is nothing "untold" about Caitlyn Jenner that we haven't already seen in the media, for example, her whole transition from Bruce to Caitlyn, relations with kids, family whole impact and dynamics of being "Caitlyn Jenner". It barely touches it in last 5-10 minutes.

I'm old enough to remember Bruce Jenner
noveltylibrary5 September 2021
Even if you weren't into the Olympics (and who wasn't back then?) you still knew who he was, because he was everywhere (and very handsome). This is the documentary I've been waiting for, his story very well done and it was great to reminisce those days. What can I say, I miss Bruce!

Not untold

Warning: Spoilers
Same old thing different stream.

It's just not interesting.

The Bruce Jenner story is good but it's not about caitlyn. It's about Bruce. Caitlyn is summed up in a 5 min summary at the end.

If you wanna see olympics 76. It's good.

If interested in Bruce & Olympics here it is
kq99925 August 2021
This turned out to be more of the type of documentary I had hoped it would be. We have seen/heard way too much about 'Caitlyn' both in magazine articles and the reality show that followed Caitlyn and her friends.

What I am interested in is who Bruce was, how his life began, his interests, his family life, the build-up and training for the Olympics and how he felt during all of these times. What was he thinking as he stepped up and began the final sport that won him the Gold and how he felt afterward...and this is pretty much what we got from watching this. No matter what people may think of Bruce Jenner he did win Olympic Gold for his country...a feat that is almost impossible and surely unattainable for most of us.

Cake & Eat It Too
TheFearmakers25 February 2023
The infamous scene in PSYCHO when character-actor Simon Oakland as a shrink is describing Norman Bates as two different people actually happens here, when Caitlyn Jenner talks about Bruce Jenner as a different person completely, at one point even putting up "quote" fingers when saying his... or rather, her former name...

And it's that name, Bruce Jenner, that bought Caitlyn the Malibu cliff-side beach-house because of what he, not she, did during the 1976 Olympics...

Which, beginning in the 1960's and leading up to 1976 including the 1972 Olympics, is the best part of this documentary... a documentary that doesn't quite know what it wants to be: an Olympic Legend's Bio or a Transgender Woman's Bio...

Somehow, both are allowed to be exist together despite not flowing as a single hour-long program... a cake and eat it too situation that really makes no sense... If Bruce wasn't Bruce than how does Caitlyn still have the Gold Medal from when he, or she or...

It's too confusing, really, but the Olympic aspect is very good, and uses the kind of suspense only found in competitive sports... despite knowing the outcome it puts you right on the edge...

Yet simply loses focus after Bruce... yes, BRUCE... rushes through his life as an Olympic has-been and then comes to terms with the woman she is now, which is fine... people can be what they want to be... there is no problem that Bruce became Caitlyn Jenner... it's a free country...

It's just difficult to hear any person relate to their own self as someone else entirely without thinking of how infamous that PSYCHO monologue is... for basically the same reason that Caitlyn Jenner is being praised.

Different perspective
maytekinaliyeva30 August 2021
I loathe Kardashians shows or anything related to that. As I knew she was part of it, I hated her without even doing proper research on who she was in the past. After this documentary I will always respect her. I have never changed my mind about someone so drastically.

Could Have Been Better
DVK123429 August 2021
I liked the beginning of the documentary because it reminded me of who Bruce was; his win in Montreal in 1976, which truly was amazing. The documentary only glossed over his gender dysmorphia. They interviewed his son Burt and his first wife Chrystie. I feel like the family couldn't be honest about how they felt when they realized that he wanted to be a woman. His son said, "I wasn't upset that he was going to be a woman, I was upset that he was going to go away....." I would imagine that a child would be mortified that their dad was turning into a woman. They barely made mention of the Kardashians; no commentary from any of them. How did the kids feel? How about Kris? Was it a shock? What is their relationship like now?

Felt like it was quickly slapped together and not enough time to round out the entire story of Bruce/Caitlyn.

I WANT TO MEET HER ONE DAY!
alexavivojavier25 August 2021
This has been the most inspiring untold story I've seen lately. For other people this can be nothing. But for someone who's been going through the same and needs to keep going, this is very very helpful. Glad I've bumped into this while eating lunch.

Gives me hope. I want to meet her one day.

Nice but a little narcissistic
souplahoopla26 July 2022
I did enjoy watching it. I didnt know much about Bruce Jenner, his sporting accolades or her transition into Caitlin. But I kinda was left with 'well what was it about?'. It was like an autobiographical that promised some real insight into Caitlyn..but it was mostly "that's Bruce and ta-da! Now I'm Caitlyn". Struggles were touched only on the surface level. And it was so narcissistic. No mention of the impact on his wives particularly or her children, no insight on how it impacted the family dynamics, just Caitlyn Caitlyn Caitlyn. She brushed over her wives like they were just people there at the time, not people she loved or loved her, that dedicated their lives to her, in what was essentially a lie. Just baby makers so she could repeatly say "I loved being a dad". I just found that incredibly disrespectful.

Good Story
jtheater29 August 2021
Netflix is online in the whole world, not only in América, so there are many people that doesnt know the story. For americans this is only another documentary about jenner, "so boring".. but for many people around the world, this is a good story. I like it. I only know jenner from the south park, but i didnt know who she was and what she did.

worth the watch!

Interesting and human Positive.

Its really nice to give people the opportunity to tell their own story and one can be surprised as there's more depth and substance to it than any external bio could put together.

I am so glad I watched and got to learn more about the athlete, his drive and hiss efforts towards goin to the top.

The athlete Bruce is someone you can look up to. And so is the human. There's a certain admiration that borns in the viewer seeing Bruce being able to actually live a success for himself.

Reminds me of a great name of the 1976 Olympics.

Nadia Comaneci.

It is wholesome to meet the people behind these gold medalists and get a rounder picture of them.

Not the usual glossy type of US Drama though it does have its flashy moments.

It comes with the territory I guess.

There's a positive vibe you're left with after watching this piece. Well put together. It does inspire one.

Untold: Caitlyn Jenner, On Netflix, Elevates The Fine Line Between Sports And Life
shefali-592447 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The third segment of Untold, a five-part Netflix docuseries from the creators of Wild Wild Country, adopts a telling structure. More than two thirds of Untold: Caitlyn Jenner is about an athlete's dogged pursuit of greatness. The 1976 Montreal Olympics is the rousing centerpiece of the story. The opponent is an invincible Russian, too. But it would be erroneous to call this a "sports documentary".
