Back in 2020, it was announced that Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker would be following that film up by taking the helm of The Thursday Murder Club, an adaptation of the debut novel by Richard Osman (creator and co-presenter of the BBC quiz show Pointless), for Amblin. Given that Parker’s involvement was announced just days before the pandemic lockdowns, it’s not surprising to hear that iteration of the project didn’t hold together… but The Thursday Murder Club is still moving forward. Home Alone and Harry Potter director Chris Columbus is now attached to direct the film, and Variety reports that Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye), Helen Mirren (The Queen), and Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) are being eyed for three of the four the lead roles!
The Thursday Murder Club will tell the story of four septuagenarian friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun.

They’ve all done it. Agatha Christie invented Ariadne Oliver. Kurt Vonnegut invented Kilgore Trout. Stephen King invented Paul Sheldon… Novelists can’t resist putting novelists at the centre of their books, often for sly satires on fandom, fame and the publishing world itself. Now, mega-successful crime author Richard Osman has written a book about a mega-successful crime author.
Osman announced last year that he was planning to take a break from his best-selling retirement village-set The Thursday Murder Club series, and writing a brand new novel. Now, he’s announced the first details of that book, and revealed its cover and title. Out in September 2024, Richard Osman’s next book published by Penguin Books will be We Solve Murders.
As explained in the video below, We Solve Murders is the story of an unlikely trio doing just that, but unlike the mismatched retirement community Thursday gang, these characters are globe-trotting sleuths.

The Challenge Season 40 may feature plenty of fan favorites back in the cast after a season of relative newcomers to the show.
Battle For a New Champion is currently airing on MTV. Its theme is to determine the first-time winner of The Challenge.
Due to that, the format featured a cast of only a few finalists and mostly individuals who have appeared in two seasons or fewer.
There were also 10 Challenge champions who participated in single-episode elimination events but left after their brief appearances.
Meanwhile, rumors have circulated for weeks about who will join the cast for MTV’s next installment of their popular competition show.
Recently, two big names were revealed as potential cast members, including a former champion and finalist from the show.
Two more Og cast members potentially on Season 40
As of this writing, an online spoilers forum has added two more individuals to the list of The Challenge Season 40 cast members.

In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.
First up were Sally Lindsay, Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne, Alex Brooker, Konnie Huq and Ed Gamble. Next came Andi Oliver,...

Is Richard Osman’s House of Games the perfect teatime quiz show? It’s certainly in contention. Silly, funny and warm, it makes very good company. The armchairs exude a sense of convivial relaxation. There are no flashing-lights podiums or tense burden of cash prizes, making it a wholly gentler experience than, say, The Chase. It keeps the same four contestants all week long, meaning that the kind of rapport other quiz shows try to manufacture in rapid-fire Q&As with the host can naturally develop. The personalities and relationships are almost as important as the rounds and questions, and it’s all done with a sense of humour – from the deliberately naff 1970s gameshow-style fondue sets and carriage clock prizes, to the enjoyable silliness behind almost every round.
To celebrate the new series airing now on weekdays at 6pm on BBC Two, here are a few fun titbits about the show.

Warning: This contains spoilers for Not Going Out
Back in 2015, during a BBC Breakfast interview about series seven of Not Going Out, presenter Bill Turnbull asked Lee Mack: “Did you ever imagine when you first got that pilot that you’d get seven series?”
“I didn’t think we’d even get a series,” Mack answers incredulously, explaining that even going from script to a pilot episode felt like “the biggest hurdle”.
And yet, eight years later (17 since the show began in 2006), Not Going Out has now almost doubled its series from seven to 13, still regularly pulling in audiences of over four million, with the newest series arriving on BBC One on Friday 23rd June at 9pm. As ever, the show will focus on Lee Mack as a fictionalised version of himself, alongside his landlady-turned-wife and sparring partner Lucy, and their eventful and often farcical life together.

The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey announced she would no longer be using Twitter on Friday (21 April).
She was among the many celebrities and people who were “legacy verified” on the platform to lose their blue ticks today.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk decided that users must now pay a monthly fee in order to be “verified” on the social media site.
Critics of the change have argued that the move will make it far easier for misinformation to spread, with users now unable to tell whether or not a celebrity account is legitimate.
“Twitter it’s been fun,” Ramsey tweeted. “My account will still be active for now but I will not be on here! Thank you my gay army and all the rest. Love you.”
The 19-year-old British actor most recently used her Twitter account to wish her childhood self a happy Trans Day of Visibility.

Celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Richard Osman have reacted to losing their “blue tick” on Twitter.
At the behest of Twitter CEO Elon Musk, the social media platform finally removed the “legacy verified” marks on celebrity profiles, with users now needing to pay a monthly fee in order to be “verified”.
Critics of the change have argued that the move will make it far easier for misinformation to spread, with users now unable to tell whether or not a celebrity account is legitimate.
When, late on Thursday (20 April), the “blue ticks” began disappearing from users’ profiles, those who had previously been “verified” started mocking the transition.
“My blue tick has gone. I’m not sure if I’m really me or not,” wrote Gervais, alongside a photograph of his face gurning in the bathtub.
Osman, star of Pointless and a bestselling novellist, wrote: “Farewell blue tick, old friend.

Elon Musk has admitted that he is “personally” paying for Twitter blue ticks for certain stars who said they would refuse to cough up for them.
On Thursday (20 April), the platform’s verification system was overhauled, with every account that had a “legacy” blue tick being stripped of its badge. Now, the only accounts with blue checkmarks are those paying the £11 a month for the subscription.
“Legacy” blue ticks had previously been given to verified accounts belonging to celebrities, politicians, journalists and organisations.
Author Stephen King, basketball player LeBron James and actor William Shatner – three celebrities who each had rows with Musk on Twitter in recent months after saying they had no plans to subscribe to Twitter Blue – currently have the checkmark.
Popbase tweeted that Musk said he was “personally paying” the Blue subscriptions of some stars, with the billionaire replying: “Just Shatner, LeBron and King.”
