A subtle sci-fi anime

Warning: Spoilers
Set in the not to distant future in a world where most households possess androids that look human to do the domestic chores some people believe others are getting too close to their androids. Rikuo is a high school student who possesses an android called Sammy; she can do basic chores but it is soon clear that she does not possess conversational skills. While she may look human it is clear to everybody that isn't due to the halo above her head. One day Rikuo finds something strange in Sammy's activity log; since she is fitted with a GPS he can track down where she went. He investigates with his friend Masaki and discovers 'Time of Eve' a café where it is the house rule that humans and androids are to be treated equally. At they are puzzled because the android they followed in no longer has a halo, something unthinkable outside. They feel a bit uncomfortable but soon that are chatting to Akiko, a young girl who clearly isn't bothered by the anonymous androids. It isn't until the next day they learn that she is in fact an android herself; it appears that androids have personalities just as complex as our own, they just feel compelled to hide this fact in the outside world. As they continue to visit they meet a range of customers including an old man with a young child, his grand daughter perhaps, a couple of young lovers and an android that looks anything but human. They also meet Nagi who runs the establishment and is always friendly but strictly enforces the equality rule. Sammy turns up there too and here she is just like everybody else; nothing like how she behaves at home and no halo. We later learn that Masaki's father works for the Robot Ethics Committee, a group wanting to shut down places like 'Time of Eve', will Masaki help his father or will he protect his new friends?

This was an interesting series, it was only six episodes long and the first five of those were only fifteen minutes long but in that short time it managed to tell a story that was both heart-warming and interesting. The characters were all a delight to watch and until it was revealed it was heard to guess who was human and who was an android; even the characters don't know which of their group is human in some cases. The backgrounds were stunningly created and the characters well animated. I'd certainly recommend this to anybody looking for a science fiction anime which isn't full of giant robots, explosions or space battles... if you watch the first episode and don't like it you've only wasted fifteen minutes but if you are like me as soon as that episode ends you'll be watching the next and so on till the end.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

I didn't know what to expect

It was the first anime of this kind that I ever watched. And needless to say, it's definitely not the last one.

As I said in the title, I didn't have any expectations on the series, someone recommended me alongside Breaking Bad, Spirited Away and a few other titles.

The story itself isn't hard to understand. Without revealing any plot point, it describes the bond between humans and humanoids, happening in not-so-distant future.

The animation is neat, very pleasant to watch, although sometimes slightly slow paced.

I didn't expect to be touched by this story as much as I was. You understand every character's feelings, history and emotions. Each and every one of them has been given some work and some thought.

There is no point in explaining it further : this anime is surprising and worth the watch.

I don't think a 10/10 would be too much, but some slight, subjective details prevent me from giving it to this series. But it absolutely deserves a 9/10, without any hesitation.

Seriously Underrated

Time of Eve is a Sci-Fi anime. It is set in future Japan and is about cyborgs.

So first of all the story was very good. It was mostly episodic and each episode was great and interesting. It is quite simplistic. I would have preferred a better ending as it felt unfinished but I think that it has one in the movie so ill check that out. The characters in the anime were all unique and interesting. The main character, Rikuo Sakisaka and his best friends exploits were funny and amusing.

The animation in this anime is amazing. It has many 'camera angles' (i don't know what to call them) that you can't see in any other anime. The animation is also quite fluid and fast. I watched the sub and the voice acting was good. The OP and ED were quite simplistic which I didn't mind but I would prefer if they put more effort into them.

In conclusion, I found this anime very entertaining with brilliant animation. I would recommend this to anyone intereted in anime with robot, android etc.

Warning: Spoilers
When I pressed play the movie, I didn't have any expectations going in. Time of Eve was a good name, I liked it. Going in, I had a few thoughts about how Robots were a part of this and how they were interacting with people. It's comparable to watching someone ask Siri to alert them for an event on their Iphone. And then there was the part about those digital Halos/rings. It was all interesting. And then they start getting into the mystery of these things androids do, that no one knows why. "Enjoy your time at Eve." The protagonists go to the address that their android went to, and they discover so much about androids, how they're just like people inside, how all these things go on in their heads, much like ours. It's beautiful. Later on, things get more "personal". It becomes heart tugging, and in all the best/right ways. It really got me there. Especially the final episode. Cried a little, these are manly tears.

10 outta 10, baby. Woo hoo!
