We finally know evil morty's goal
thefoochie6 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At first, evil morty seemed like he wanted to take over the world, but at the end of the day, he's just an ordinary morty who wants to escape from Rick. That explains why he killed his own Rick... And I wonder what that yellow portal means? Maybe evil morty goes to a dimension where Rick doesn't exist, that's my theory. Anyway, crazy episode. I'm gonna have to rewatch this one a few times. And can we talk about how awesome that montage was? All of these fan theories thought that rick's original morty died, but Rick never even had a morty to begin with, because Rick C137's Beth died. Amazing stuff. Can't wait for season 6.

The season redeems itself

Warning: Spoilers
After a flawed season, Rick and Morty rocks with an action-packed finale that finally gave fans what they wanted, though the mystery of Rick's backstory is now gone, I'm glad they gave the show an episode so chaotic like fans love. Great ending.

Such an amazing episode. The best ending to an episode in the entire Rick and Morty series. Lost for words, really.

Best episode of the series (plot wise)
winchestertrista6 September 2021
The reveal of the mystery that the whole fanbase has been dying to know was revealed perfectly. Loved the music as well, especially the "Blade Runner" esque music in the flashback. It still struggles with the humor like almost all of the episodes in season 5, but this episode being plot based helps with that. Could honestly have been adapted into a movie.

WOW.

Warning: Spoilers
Definitely the best season finale this show has given us so far. Not gonna lie, they almost got me in the beginning, I was ready to accept that this episode would be Rick on a badass adventure with crows, but then Morty showed up middle aged and then something felt fishy.... then one thing led to another and whoop we're at the citadel!

I won't spoil any further than that, but this episode was definitely one for the fans. It was canon heavy and we learn things about the universe we've been watching on Rick and Morty that could change the way the show progresses in the future, AND changes the way we view the 5 previous seasons. Not to mention, this episode was one of the most beautifully animated we've seen in the show and very visually pleasing.

I've seen mixed reviews on the episodes of season 5 and many agree that this season has had some of the worst episodes of the show, as well as some of the best. I definitely understand this, but I was still entertained by every episode that came out this season. Maybe it's because I never took it too seriously, but throughout the season I never noticed any quality decline so jarring that it made me dislike what I had watched. Just some weaker episodes, relatively speaking. But this finale was undoubtedly phenomenal, and I'm sure other fans of Rick and Morty will agree.

Baffling, complex and Surprising as hell.
ariasisaac-890856 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm still thinking about all that happened. There was a lot to take in. The Payoff for so many questions of the show kickoff, and soon begin a whole new chapter of Rick and Morty's overarching storyline. At The Halfway point of the series, it's about time they do something "Drastically New". As a Two Part Episode it works really well exploring Rick and Morty's moral dilemma, that's been within their friendship for so long. By the end their characters are now more strange than ever, and pose even more questions that set up the next Season. Now the series is more serialized than ever, and since it ties up the previous Seasons very well, now it's time to see what happens next. I'm still trying to comprehend all that happened, A show that does that deserves its title of being mysterious, and beffingly strange.

THE MOST INSANE RICK AND MORTY EPISODE EVER!!!!!
markq-756546 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was just insane and great. It left we truly speechless.

This episode gives us the return of evil Morty and it only that but so many answers. Rick's history, history of the citadel.

We learn that 3x01 Origin story of Rick Is true and learn his whole life he's been hunting down the Rick that killed his wife and daughter. We also learn Rick went to different universes to make sure Morty was created.

Then we get the even more insanity, evil Morty destroys the citadel. And sabotages all the portal guns. Kills many Rick's and Morty's. He then escapes and opens a gold portal.

This episode Andrew so much but leaves us with many more questions. What is the gold portal? Where does it go? What will Rick and Morty do now? Where is the Rick that killed our Rick wife and daughter?

This episode was amazing, it tricked us with the beginning. Gave us so much we were asking for and leaves us on an insane cliffhanger. Episode was just so amazing.

Evil Morty all along
ericstevenson7 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The bit with Rick's two crows continues, but it's still abandoned after five minutes. The main thing is that Evil Morty makes his return. This has been building up for a long time. The most important part is Morty finding out Rick's memories. The best part is probably finding out that Rick's memory from a previous episode was in fact genuine. That means that Morty isn't blood related to Rick after all, because there never was a blood-related Morty for Rick to begin with.

It's certainly a lot to take in and it would probably take a second viewing to truly understand it all. This had gorgeous animation, especially at the end with the Citadel being destroyed. Evil Morty goes off to another multiverse, presumably one without a Rick. I am so glad this season did end on a great episode, although it probably was overall the weakest season so far. That incest baby was just too much. It looks like the cliffhanger is that Rick and Morty are trapped with some other Mortys with no way back home. ****

Epic season ending
angelesfernando6 September 2021
I think we were misguided by some lame episodes into thinking this was a weak season but this was a real kick in the balls. What a way to destroy stupid fan theories and to give us the best episode in the entire series.

One of the greatest television episodes ever made.

This is the best episode of one of the best shows of all time. If you haven't watched the show, do yourself a favor and start it from the beginning. I cannot wait to see where the story heads from here.

Should've been saved for a possible movie!
jakewc2336 September 2021
The plot, character arcs, humour, visuals, everything would've fit right in a potential Rick and Morty movie! I was left genuinely speechless afterwards by how great it was. Although this season had some highs and lows, this season went out with not just a bang, but a nuclear explosion. Wish I could give 20 stars if I would.

Also can't wait for Season 6 in like 3 years, time.

So... This is it?
spuddaboy7 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After sticking through with this show since 2013, back when I was but a young lad back in primary school, I was hooked. The show resonated with me in a way that nothing else really did at the time. At risk of sounding like the copypasta, the jokes were intelligent, the acting was on point and the plots were fantastic.

Then season three came along and everything changed forever.

For the first two seasons, everything seemed on par for the course, but it felt like after the fantastic season two finale, the show had hit some form of creative slump; The show still felt like Rick and Morty, but something felt amiss. After rewatching the first four seasons in preperation for season five, this feeling definitely did not rear its head as much, but something still felt... odd.

This being said, season three still has my favourite episode of all time, 'Tales from the Citadel', which is probably a predictable choice but whatever.

Season three still felt like a step down, but was still Rick and Morty.

I do not know what happened behind the scenes, but it felt like that the only writers that Adult Swim hired were the same people who unironically copied the aforementioned copypasta (We all know the one I'm talking about) and made them the writers of the show.

In the course of one season, almost everything great about Rick and Morty was stripped away and the show continued its slow demise into mediocrity...

And then season five came along and the bottom of the barrel suddenly became deeper.

Season five feels like a much more, incredibly watered down version of season four, which is saying something. Upon looking back on it, I despise this season so much for what it has become, and the only reason I stuck with it is to get to this finale, which was meant to be feature length according to newsweek.... Oh well, guess its just another failed promise from Harmon.

So, about this finale that this review is meant to be about.

What an absolute waste of five seasons worth of build up. What in the absolute hell was that?

We had been given one of the most interesting antagonists the show had offered for the longest time and in less than twenty minutes, Rick and Co dispatched him after revealing his deadly plan and schemes and what have you not.

That's right ladies and germs, almost eight years reduced to a smouldering twenty minute episode that baits the viewers with Rick's backstory, danger and literally nothing else.

It pains me to write this because I love the show, and I love Harmon for his works like Community, but this is unforgiveable. We waited this long for an ending to the Evil Morty arc and this was it? Evil Morty was not evil the entire time, he just wanted to escape? Boohoo!

The episode was moving at such a break neck speed that for some people, it was hard to understand some of the plot elements and points which is understandable, but just like the season three finale, rather than spread the plot out over a feature length hour and a half which it so desperately needed, it was reduced to about 3/4 of a regular episode runtime because...?

Everyone rating this higher than Tales from the Citadel should be ashamed of themselves and hang their heads in shame. This is a trainwreck of an episode once you get past all the flashing lights and ball-tickling. The five out of ten star review is just a placeholder until the episode sinks in a bit more and I inevitably give it something lower.

THIS EPISODE MADE ME QUESTION REALITY
callumallison-959326 September 2021
I just .. woah. I havent watched an episode of TV that actually made me question a lot of what iv been watching. Season 5 has been slightly below par for R and M. But this episode made it all worth it. Watch it, experience it, enjoy the lore being slapped in your face. Because this episode changes everything about the show you watch and love.

Finally the episode we've all been waiting for
ahmadre-122166 September 2021
This episode put a very satisfying ending to the season. This season may have been the weakest but It makes sense now because the writers did every last bit that was left on their minds during this season because from now on everything changes and the show is going on another direction.

Amazing episode and great ending, really happy with that ending. Because many events were linked during the previous seasons and built coherently and accurately up to this point, which will serve the course of the story in the future..

Saving The Best For Last
Rick and Morty's fifth season started off surprisingly well, then it sagged with Rickdependence Spray, but picked itself right back up with Rickternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mort (if I'm writing the title correctly). Rickmurai Jack is this season's strongest episode by a wide margin, and that's strong praise for this fan right here.

This episode had character-development galore, sci-fi-world-building that shames other shows of similar ambition, and a cliffhanger ending that was surprisingly self-contained in the episode's open-ended multiverse context.

This is animated television that people will revere for decades to come; be it the plot twists, the writing and craziness of the animation, Rick and Morty saved its best episode for last THIS season.

Definitely an improvement over some of this season's notable disappointments, it almost plays as an 'apology' for those let down by the mid-season episodes.

Rickmurai Jack: another platinum episode for this batsh!t-crazy series.

Everything we've waited for this season.
EddyTheMartian0077 September 2021
After episodes 3-7 were consecutively the worst episodes in the show, the last 3 episodes make up for it. While I don't think these episodes were even as tightly written as the show was before, it still delivered in so much of the plot, character development, and lore we've been wanting to know since the first season. Episode 8 gave us a new look at Rick and Bird Person's relationship, plus elements of their past to be further explored in the finale. The first part of the finale deconstructs Rick and Morty's relationship as well, as they finally break up, as has been expected for the entire season, and Rick develops a little more. The 2 Crows were quite funny too. And bam, this finale, which builds on top of those and the series as a whole, definitely making for one of the all time greats in the show. It felt extra long as it reveals so much at once, from Rick's origin, how the Council of Ricks was formed, Evil Morty's motives, and his plan being executed wonderfully with a new version of his theme song. This everything we've wanted and Rick and Morty will never be the same. Hopefully with a better season next time though!

Season Rating: 6.5/10.

The quality of dialogue has stopped mattering
yzssph-474616 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Look it's still a good show but the creators throw away every thing they build up....from season 4 morty started getting more confident and separated from rick but at the end he becomes more of a loser (worse than jerry)and begs to be with rick with all the rick things rick has done to him and other mortys I mean how do the writers expect us to like this character......this episode will get high ratings from the fans because they go crazy just by seeing the smallest stuff of Rick's past..they like expositions just thrown at them..by the way episode 1 seasons 3 wasnt a totally fabricated origin story ...or did they forget .....

Still doesn't hold a candle to S1 & S2
beanslegit28 September 2021
It's the only genuinely good episode this season, it's still not funny at all mind you but it's far better than every other episode in season 5. I guess the writers realised that this season was an incoherent badly written unfunny mess and decided to actually put some effort in for once. Also it's bait to get hype around the next season, which will of course not answer any questions just more bait.

Too little too late I'm afraid. The show needs to end, as the creators clearly don't care any more.
