you've got to be joking

I'm a big fan of low budget movies, lets face it were would the movie industry be without them but there's a thin line between bad and abysmal and this movie ticks all the boxes as one of the worst movies I've seen for a long while.Roland thatcher a so called business man who sells fertiliser to the local hillbillies at a very deadly price.Roland also a fanatical man of god has his mutant son locked up in his not so good looking cabin and his son has a taste for human flesh, meet some campers on a fun getaway weekend,i think you know were this is going, did i mention there's also a reporter searching for the truth about red river and its weird reputation.Roland also has another hobby his will to kill and with some campers on the way hes in a very good mood.i cant tell you how many times we have seen the same story in this genre.the acting in this movie was just awful, the tension fell flat from the opening scene and it got to the stage where it just became laughable and tired some.the only good thing about this movie was the ending

Not much there

I am going to assume that you have not heard of director Jacob Ennis. Ennis has been behind the camera for a short period and was behind the camera for 2007's Stash and the documentary Haunted Kentucky: Spirits of the Bluegrass in 2009.

His latest effort is Red River, a horror film that still might not put Ennis on the map, but a film that definitely has its merits thanks to a unyielding parade of the red stuff horror fans cheer for.

Red River is set in Kentucky tells the story of the Thatcher family headed by Roland Thatcher who has an innocent persona and has to use an electronic tool that enables him to talk. But Roland is pure evil at heart and with his F'd up son who lives in a squalor of an abode they prey on wandering hikers or persons that wander too close to their shacked dwelling.

I wish I can offer more of a plot. But there isn't much more to discuss. There is a reporter that is hot on the missing persons stories in the area, but Red River is mostly just dumb ass individuals finding themselves in the presence of the Thatcher's where they eventually meet their demise in annoying and grotesque fashion.

The first half of Red River was incredibly annoying. None of the characters were interesting and the dialogue was suspect carried out by inferior actors. So basically, it was your typical independent horror film.

But by the time the second half rolled around, I finally got it. Sort of. The nudity and the blood flowed freely and the 70's exploitation film feel was more evident in the final reels.

But that still didn't lift Red River towards an overall rating close to a recommendation. Audacious – yes. Grotesque and cannibalistically brutal – sort of. But good? Hardly. There were more scenes that I thought should have been left on the cutting room floor than I can count. And some of the one-to-three line actors couldn't even carry off simple sentences with conviction.

So that leaves Red River on the disappointment list. Ennis might have had fun putting the film together (chopping people up and yelling 'more blood' from the director's chair has to be fun). But we sure didn't have quite as much fun watching it.

Absolutely Terrible
shrude23 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
*some spoilers* (although the whole film is a spoiler)

This has to be the worst movie I have ever seen. It seems a bunch of people in some southern town in the US got their video camera out and had a go. ALL of the acting is worse than amateur. The local talent from this ... town/ location were all involved. All toothless overweight cow-hicks with nothing better to do than 'huck' 'huck' at the camera. The use of naked girls and their teenage boyfriends was completely wrong. They lent nothing to any thin semblance of a story at all. The mute with the voice box was inane.

Once the female reporter started running around with a halter neck dress and a black strapped bra on I stopped the movie.

What were they thinking?

worst movie ever

Warning: Spoilers
absolute trash, very very bad acting. laughable gore and all together impossible to care whatsoever about any of the characters, sometimes even really bad movies have some redeeming features I couldn't find one in this abysmal and trite pile of steaming dung, even the wish to see each and every one of the actors killed was let down by the lack of tension and moronic killing scenes. The main character is a joke. The mutant son is a joke. The deaths are a joke. please never let anyone involved with this film ever do anything again. Its hard to recall a movie I have ever seen that was worse and I love bad movies and low budget horror. If this film had been made in the 1970's it still would have been abysmal. Paint a wall and watch it dry for a better way to spend some time.

a lot of the red stuff, but not scary

From the first seconds you can easily tell that this is low budget. Somehow this one was promoted very well and became available all over the globe. If you want to see something with suspense than you are watching the wrong flick. The acting is wooden and some things are really laughable, for example, girls are being caged. When one survivor is trying to get the girl free he can't do it. You can easily put your feet against the chicken wire and break it. When the killer goes for the girl he just picks up the cage like nothing. It weighs maybe a few kilo's. On the other hand, the editing was clearly done from different takes. The colors were sometimes too blue in the black level, the reason is simple, they didn't made a white/black balance with the camera's. But then you can do color grading while editing, and that's also not been done. So don't watch it for the story but if you want to see some bloody shots than this is for you, sadly, it is never on the gory side, well, maybe the removal of one tit, but the red stuff do flows. And for the perverts out there, yes, there is a lot of juggs coming on screen. But just watch the sex scene, the way she faked it, well, I would definitely dump her into a red river.

Disgusting

Warning: Spoilers
It doesn't worth a minute to put for this movie. Very low level and disgusting. Horror movie is not just putting rotten image but also it should carry a concept. I'm really sorry for my time which I spend for this movie. It doesn't worth a minute to put for this movie. Very low level and disgusting. Our eyes are going to be cut out of our heads and placed in Mason jars!

Warning: Spoilers
"Hillbilly Bloodbath" and "Red River" are the same film. In fact the actual "Hillbilly Bloodbath" DVD says "Red River" on it and the film hasn't changed any titles.

Roland (Dave Haney) speaks through a voice box microphone and has deformed son. He is religious and kills people, mostly women whose tops go missing. Kids go camping in the woods...and need I say more? Filmed in Kentucky on a low budget featuring locals. The movie is campy and bloody. Bad acting, some intentional, some not. Tucky Williams as Ranger Darcy ad lib her own lines...campy but entertaining.

Guide: F-word, sex, nudity (MISTY SIMMONS-POTEET, MEGAN MARIE Wilson, RONICA JONES)
