Updated version of Panic Room
This movie has the same story as the 2002 movie Panic Room. Come on Lifetime! I mean the actors were good. Drea de Matteo is a great actress! But I guess they didn't think that someone would recognize it's pretty much the same!

Unsafe Waste of Space

Pretty much do not waste your time, or money watching this. I'm not sure how they managed to find investors to bank roll this absolute waste of digitized celluloid. Terrible.

Well how do I start.

I didn't expect much as it's a Lifetime movie but hey.

Terrible acting especially by the mum. She goes through each scene huffing and puffing and rolling her eyes. Rubbish.

Creepy,patronising neighbour.

Storyline is nonsense as well. Why is the lead filming into people's houses. Creepy. He speaks to his mum ok. Seed a murder then falls asleep. Stupid.

If you are looking or a good thriller, watch.

Warning: Spoilers
It's a very good thriller and would have rated it higher; however, there are some scenes that just didn't make any sense at all where I had to literally just shake my head and say "seriously." 1) who allows a child to have a video set up to look into other people houses; 2) what was the purpose of putting the camera in the bean bag; 3) if you're going to yell you are being held against your will, say how many people are in the house; 4) why didn't the cop call for back up before entering the residence.

Not worth watching

Warning: Spoilers
Reading the spiel on the plot of this movie, it sounded quite interesting. The Trailer looked exciting too. Sadly i was highly disappointed.

First here's what i liked about it. The storyline was good + gives awareness to Autism, something still very much misunderstood.

That's it.

Now for what i didn't like... Firstly the acting. Oh boy was it bad. Especially. Lila Jackson. Utterly horrendous. Nik Sanchez is slightly better but with this hard part to play it's clearly out of his range. MIko Hughes did a much better job in Mercury Rising in 1998 + he was only 12.

Also whoever was the Casting Director must have been drinking, because trying to imagine Sanchez as a 14 year old, is impossible + seeing Jackson rub his hair as if he's 7, is simply ridiculous. Not a true representation of Autism at all, which is really criminal, as that is the main point of the whole thing.

Lastly, the decisions made by everyone involved are questionable at best, often absurd. Would a Mother really send her Autistic teen out into a house of murderers, ON HIS OWN, just to get a phone that may not even get a signal. Totally stupid.

Maybe the Director should have focussed more on researching Autism , then the failed attempt at suspense.

Oh and one final thing of note, when the head crim was on his own, why would he have still kept up the act? Could the victims see through the wall outside or were his allies in the dark too?

If only the did a movie about a Panic Room before ...
ithacacl31 January 2022
Seriously this is just a horrible rip off of the movie Panic Room and Fear.

I guess since the main character is "diverse" it ticks off the right boxes to be made today but Ugh. Even the name screams wokeness "Safe Space".

Great watch

This was well done. I can't imagine the challenges of filming with a leading man who plays someone with autism when he is autistic. Very brave of the producers. The portrayal of the mood and character of Baltimore neighborhood was on. I am glad that the murders and life toll was fictitious. The film is reminiscent of Hitchcock's Rear Window for me. Thank you for using Baltimore to shoot this. It accurately depicts living with an autistic child. Give it a watch and consider for yourself.

Watchable
jb057915 December 2022
A woman and her autistic son are locked into a safe room to avoid bad guys who were seen by the boy committing a crime through a window. I don't know if this is more of a ripoff of the movie Panic Room, or Rear Window (sorry Hitch, I don't make the bad movies, I just report and opine on them) let's just call it a poor hodgepodge of both. Well the plot of the movie is almost identical to Panic Room, this is a made for TV movie which is, in my opinion, at best watchable. I see other reviews here in and in other places rating is a 9 or 10 out of 10. Really? So if Forrest Gump, Dances With Wolves, Goodwill Hunting and Forrest Gump are 10 out of 10, you're calling this a nine? Ugh. I wish people would take more time to consider what the competition is before they rate a movie like this a 10 out of 10. But I guess that's somebody else's opinion. Meanwhile my laptop almost lit up into flames while I submitted entry after entry after entry of mistakes, goofs and anachronisms; let's just call it several of each. I was actually not dissatisfied with the boys capture of that character and what he did with it on screen, but really, movies of this type have to condense the plot down so much to make whatever time they need to make that certain things aren't paid attention to and errors are made. While this is imo a bad copycat of Panic Room, so many things could have done been done to make it their own & they simply didn't. The result is, painfully and almost shamefully, a close copy. If there's nothing else to watch and you folded all your socks and you've already ran toothpicks under your fingernails, then it's what I call watchable but don't blame me, I warned you.

It passed my time

Warning: Spoilers
The movie plot is actually quite interesting and the cameraworks are superb but it's all wasted on poor story building it feels like this was only made to just meet the deadline with bare minimum efforts kind of feeling.

I've found many scene to be ridiculous in here.

First of all who would send their son an autistic one out to fetch something where murderers lurk and how come that safe room doesn't even have a emergency call button.

Also they wasted the build up of suspense in the last part. The way it ended was just kind of meh. Too many cliches and plot armor. It was wasted on unnecessary scene just to make the story longer but instead of making it better it just made it worse.

Representation Matters

Lifetime dramas are what they are. Overall, there were several messages that really hit home as a single mom with a significantly smart & special needs son.

Better than I expected for a thriller from Lifetime
eyeglasseddie-4254525 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Nicole Ari Parker was enjoyable to watch, preformed the part of being the mother to an autistic child with grace.

Nic Sanchez was great in his part too. The lead bad guy in this movie really got me to dislike them, so I guess that means they did their job well. Drea de Matteo was also good in "Shades of Blue".great job.

One of the best lifetime movies I've ever watched
huiethunter20 January 2022
So I'm very picky when it comes to lifetime movies. There are indeed a few slamdunks such as "Amanda Knox" (with Hayden Panettiere) , "Baby Sellers" (with Kristie Alley), "Beaches" (the remake with Idina Menzel, and Nia Long), "A Deadly Adoption" (with Will Ferrell, and Kristen Wiig) and "Stalkers" with Drea De Matteo (who is in this movie) , Mena Suvari, and Jodi Lynn O'Keefe.

"Safe Room" aka "Safe Space" is about a widowed mother with a son that has autism. Her autistic son accidentally recorded a murder on a video camera and the intruders try to do whatever it takes to retrieve the evidence.

The villains of this movie are played by Mackenzie Astin, and Drea De Matteo. This movie gave me goosebumps. "Safe Room" has vibes of the movies "Rear Window" and "Panic Room". Boris Kodjoe nails he is directorial debut in this lifetime movie.

Drea De Matteo is a psychopath in this movie and this is a huge departure for her playing battered women, and victims of a crime! I hope to see her play more villains in her career. This is the best lifetime movie I've seen in a long time!

Quite good, really!
Chartreuse121 January 2022
Lila lives with her autistic son, Ian, who is also a gadget genius and who just videotaped a murder across the street. Trouble is the killer saw him recording it and go after both of them so they lock themselves in a safe room. This movie has a great cast and a great script! Highly recommended!
