On the fence
miaharpr4 September 2022
On the one hand, I understand the negative reviews; it had a messy start, a convoluted plot, some holes in the story, and an ending that could leave a lot of viewers dissatisfied, not to mention vapid to hammed up acting from the supporting cast. On the other hand, I can appreciate what the show wanted to be. I'll also be the minority and say that Michelle Monaghan played a difficult role and despite a shaky start, she gradually was able to immerse herself into her characters and give a complex performance (again, I'm the minority on this). Indeed, the show felt like a Lifetime production. It didn't seem to have a high budget, and it's most evident in the last episode, where the special effects were used with the faintest subtlety...I overall thought it was an easy watch, cringy at times, but I got through it-I am an Echoes survivor...and I closet-enjoyed the show.

Worth a watch.
runeholmjensen20 August 2022
Not as bad as the other reviews say. Is it perfect? No absolutely not, but it's worth a watch. Few nice twistes in it. It's not impossible to follow as some say - maybe don't sit on your phone doing other stuff while watching a show and then complaining it's difficult to follow.

Good idea but sketchy in places
emmabmurphy24 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The idea is cool but there's a few things that just don't sit right or needed more development.

One thing that really grated on me was the river scene in the penultimate episode, it looked like really amateur green screening.

Overall a watchable series but some of the dialogue and effects let it down.

Loved this

I am getting a bit tired of reviews which begin with, "too complicated" or "lost me." Are we really becoming so lazy & impatient that we can't handle the occasional narrative challenge? "Not realistic" or "believable" is another common critique. Really? Because (news flash) no movie or series is "real." Isn't that the point? That we watch these things to escape reality & to be entertained.

I will admit that I was a bit disoriented at the conclusion of the 1st episode but unless the viewer is especially dense, it is not difficult to reorient & follow the narrative twisted by a set of twins who once vowed to share everything. I am not a fan of spoilers so I will just say that I enjoyed this so much that I binge watched the entire series because it was just like reading a really good book- I could not put this one down until it was over.

I read that there is no season 2 but that is ok by me. The ending did not disappoint.

Why Did I Watch The Whole Series?
t-ktinney28 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Image a 7 hour long Lifetime movie about 2 mentally messed up twins- one worse than the other and there you have the premise of the 7 part series.

I stuck around and watched all 7 shows and hate myself for doing so. It's SOOOOOOO dragged out. At least 5 episodes could've been left out to be honest.

There are so many loopholes and the whole twin "switching" was ridiculous, at times confusing and made little sense; the idea NO ONE except their mother could tell them apart was just stupid. As kids, if 1 did something bad they'd switch. Why? Made no sense except to give weight to "bad Gina." There's way too much filler and no substance.

To me, about 85% of the series is 1 twin looking for the other and saying "I'll fix this." There is 1 episode where "Leni" walks around for the duration of the show saying "I gotta find "Gina," "I have to talk to Gina." It was so monotonous that it started irritating me. And again, the whole twin switching lives and their husbands don't know the difference, her daughter doesn't, Dad doesn't, they can resume each other's jobs and so on got to be so far fetched that I honestly started rolling my eyes and a few times laughed out loud. No explanation is given either why 1 twin is so obsessed and jealous of the other which sets up the series and steers it into Lifetime Movie territory.

I won't give away anything about the ending except to say it was obvious with a twist.

I'd skip this series. There are WAY BETTER ones to watch.

I had to finish it...But
buffgirl73-265-69622625 August 2022
Overly complicated in the first couple of episodes but I was in it for the duration by then so completed it.

The premise of the show was interesting but the reality not as accomplished as it could have been.

I like Michelle Monaghan was good and I loved Floss, but some of the other characters were quite hollow.

It didn't have a satisfying ending but I didn't feel like I'd wasted my life!

Perhaps indicative of Netflix's reduction of quality programmes but daily entertaining nonetheless.

Perfect show to clean your house
calocamilla21 August 2022
It's bad but watchable while doing other stuff, like cleaning your house or other boring chores.

It's like those weird movies for TV they used to make in the 2000s. It's a pity, the idea is nice, actors are decent ( Karen Robinson Is excellent) but the dialogues and the plot simply dont work.

Do Better, Netflix!

Good story
madmaywebdesign25 August 2022
I don't know what all the reviews about it being confusing are all about. It's not hard to follow at all. Maybe they are multitasking and if that is case, don't write a review. The acting is great, the story is full of twists and not predictable. I binge the whole season, I definitely recommend watching!

Better than reviews say
maryskywalker1131 August 2022
I'm kinda surprised by all of the negative reviews after finishing this show! I really enjoyed it and was quickly sucked into the story. The summary and trailer intrigued me so I'm glad I decided to watch despite the low rating. Perfect? No. Confusing? Yes, but also engaging and with enough twists to keep me watching.

I didn't find the pace slow, though I see the valid criticism of plot holes...and the many times I felt frustrated by the fact that all of this could be solved by the truth and how overall the idea of the premise was a stupid decision on the part of two women with major trauma. But I actually highly recommend this show! It will keep you on your toes & leave you scratching your head.

Not good...
gordypix24 August 2022
Why is Netflix running this sort of nonsense? 7 episodes of drivel to get to an ending that is so implausible it makes daytime soap operas look like Mastermind.

So, terrible writing and story, stupid characters, dry acting, daft edits, bad CGI and keystone cops who couldn't catch a cold, let alone a pair of twins.

On to the next Netflix series in the hope that this one might be worth the time...

Confusing at times
punchline921 August 2022
Confusing at times as most lives around twins must be but this series was still quite good. Monaghan is a great actress and plays the subtle differences in both women well, but the star of the show for me was the sheriff played by Karen Robinson. Binged all 7 episodes in one day as it went by quickly, holding my interest throughout. I fully recommend it.

Worth a watch
emppark21 August 2022
I always stop by the reviews if I start watching something and it's a bit meh, as if they're dire I normally give up, BUT for some reason I persevered on this one and it's by no means as bad as some of the reviews make out. It's not what I would call a "thriller" but there's enough twists to keep you interested and make it past some questionable acting.

Just unbelievable....
Otte121 August 2022
The direction was done incorrectly. With all the flashbacks it was very very hard to determine what was happening today and what was flashback. It was very distracting when there was a scene having to decipher. But the worst crime, just not believable. So many things could be cleared up with a phone call, one statement, one question, or anything. The story depends on everyone being dumb all the time for the series to work. The timelines were completely off. And again, everyone has to be stupid. Combined that with an confusing ending and this is not worth your time.

The definition of hit or miss
umimelectric21 August 2022
There's good & bad elements to this show, with a very smart although convoluted twist/misdirect standing out as a huge positive that nearly counteracts the sometimes inexcusable acting, over-the-top drama, and unrealistic plot turns. Overall, being only 7 episodes, I would recommend it for someone who has Netflix and is looking for something to get into requiring minimal commitment. It is a good thing it isn't any longer of a series though, because this show would definitely prove that too much can be a very bad thing. 6/10; an intriguing mystery that is weighed down by being a little too heavy handed.

Could have been better
kbaxws20 August 2022
I like Michelle Monaghan, so decided to try.

The movie plot is not terrible, but it's not well executed unfortunately. Too many flashbacks.

At first glance I thought the Sheriff would be annoying, but she ended up being the best part! I hope I see her in more stuff. Kind of like a female Colombo.

Last...I guessed at the ending and was wrong for a change. (I guess there's that.)

Not the best but not the worst
joanamarah25 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't horrendous like some reviews are making out but it could have flowed better. It's not realistic by any means as most identical twins do have something that distinguishes them apart so it doesn't make sense that only one person noticed throughout the years they were switching. Lenny was a little annoying and Jack was too.

The only thing to me that didn't make sense was the ending. She ends with 'to settle some scores starting with you' but her husband was supportive and knew the whole time so it doesn't make sense for it to end with that. I think it was supposed to be a cliffhanger but I doubt it will get renewed so they should have wrapped it up there.

WAS looking pretty good .....
mercyaintfree19 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As the story evolved through the first 3 episodes you could fully grasp what it was turning into. Two twin women trading positions in each other's lives sometimes for extended periods of time.

It looked really promising as one of the twins comes up missing and the other begins to assume the role of both all the time. Man, the directions this could have gone. I was ready for the binge.....and then the two women ran across each other.

I'm not sure what happened but you can actually feel this transition in the story as it declined. In fact I had no problem leaving it to do yard work.

When a story starts out as interesting and as promising as this one....and then changes....you have to wonder what happened in real life. Did they lose a writer? Did a time schedule change ? Budget ? What ?

Kudos and special mention for the actress who played the sheriff. Everytime this character appeared I wanted to punch her directly in the face really hard. With nonstop outright intrusive questions and a quirky head twitch with eyes that loved to roll...why....in real life a sheriff like that would hold a world record for instigating the most "battery on a LEO" charges ever against one victim.

In a word, "Lifetime"
Ripshin20 August 2022
Yep, Netflix is stooping to that. But, hey, it's in the top ten today.

Pablum for the masses.

Stupid dialogue. Cartoonish acting. Pedestrian camera work. ETC.

I didn't last 20 minutes into the first episode. My roommate looked at me, and we both said "Lifetime" in unison. Bleh.

One of the best thriller tv series I've seen in awhile
morganrushing5 September 2022
Don't bother listening to the bad reviews since they are lacking credibility. This show is so good and everyone I've spoken to about it has agreed. The people who are saying it was "too confusing" either weren't paying attention or are not very bright. I had no problem following along with the characters and the plot twists. The acting was impeccable for the majority of the show as well. Some people leaving bad reviews openly admitted they didn't even watch more than 20 minutes of the first episode, therefore they can't possibly leave an accurate review since they didn't even give the show a fair chance. I definitely recommend this show to adults who will actually pay attention.

Confusing and draggy
snowyprecipice6 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I give it a 6 because the acting is pretty good, and the setting/ cinematography is nice. But the plot? It was a bit of a mess and hard to follow, especially at the start. It's like a decent Lifetime movie, a little cheesy and a little weird. I found myself forwarding towards the end. The twists were just too unrealistic. It might have been better if they showed more of their childhood and why Leni is the way she is, instead of portraying her as this manipulative character who was tough to sympathise for.

The whole premise was interesting but simply too unrealistic... how the heck could they switch for an entire year and no one noticed except for the obsessive husband? What about the family, the kid, the other husband? And how could a mother stay away from her child for an entire year? It just doesn't make sense. It would have been way better if they showed them switching at certain occasions or holidays, not an entire year.

Wait? Which one is she? What?
noelleinaz20 August 2022
Gina is bad. No wait Leni is bad. No wait, that's Lena pretending to be Gina. Someone stole a horse and I'm still not sure wtf it had to do with a church burning and a guy getting stabbed and a druggie selling ketamine... don't waste your time. I did it for you, so you can find something else.

Not a bad watch
fccxp28 January 2023
Definitely had me confused here and there on who was who, which was intriguing and drew me in. The premise of the series certainly seemed interesting. Throughout there were parts that seemed confusing going back and forth and you weren't sure who did what. The last two episodes were a little less interesting and I wish it had ended different. There was things with their mother that we learn that didn't really seem to be a part of the story, even though it was supposed to explain things. The fact that these are identical twins and the police talked about each of their DNA's being found is an obvious screw up since the DNA of identical twins is indistinguishable from each other.

snuggybearkids20 August 2022
Both sucks and blows. I've never seen lamer writing and over acting. As predictable as Saturday comes after Friday. Plot holes, storyline that might have had potential but crossed the insipid line. Another Crapflix disappointment.

Convoluted crazy plot. Reminded me of crappy made for TV movies. Entertaining but for the wrong reasons. Worth a watch in case you're looking for something dumb but bingeable.
