Odd Mixed Bag
adamation938 October 2022
Finally saw this for free on TV. Wanted to watch it at Halloween time & frankly didn't want to buy it to watch once because I figured it'd be a mixed bag. The special was hit and miss. Hearing Thea White again (for the last time) as Muriel hit the feels for sure. Grabstein was good returning to Courage. Eustace...Jeff Bergman didn't quite do it for me most of the time. And what was with that random rap scene? The writing in this doesn't always flow so well either. The explanation for monsters in Nowhere is interesting but kind of falls to the wayside. Glad I saw it- probably won't watch again.

Good crossover animated movie...
paul_haakonsen8 January 2022
While the 2021 animated movie "Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" does follow the archetypical formula of how they make a "Scooby-Doo" adventure, then writer Michael Ryan actually does manage to do this crossover cartoon in a very fulfilling and entertaining way.

The storyline was enjoyable and definitely mixed elements of the two animated franchises together in a good way, and in a way that will please fans of both or either franchise. So thumbs up on that achievement. I found the storyline to be fun and enjoyable, as did my 11 year old son.

The animation and art style in "Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" was good, and it is always a blast to sit down and watch these "Scooby-Doo" movies as they are a trip down memory lane, but while keeping today's touch to it as well.

This being an animated movie, of course having a great voice acting ensemble is very important. And I will say that they definitely had that for "Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog". Lots of returning talents to do the voices, so there is a good sense of familiarity and continuity to this animated movie.

I sat down to watch "Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" with my family, and there was something enjoyable for all ages to be had here. And that makes "Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" well-worth sitting down to watch. So thumbs up to director Cecilia Aranovich on that accomplishment.

My rating of "Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Courage Dooby Doo!!!!
pughspencer18 July 2022
I was most anticipated for this crossover but at the same time a bit hesitant. Courage the Cowardly Dog is my favorite cartoon ever but without the involvement of its creator John R Dilworth seemed a bit disheartening. Not to mention the straight-to-video Scooby Doo films lately have had less effort than the stuff that used to come out back in the day. I am however satisfied to say this crossover mostly delivered.

While the story is honestly nothing that special, its the interactions between the two shows main characters that makes this worth watching. It's so fun to see everyone (minus Eustace) get along with each other especially Scooby and courage who feel like long-lost brothers. Add shaggy to the mix & you get a trio of scaredy cats running from everything in sight. It was just so great to see courage do the hallway doors gag with them. While most the movie is trying to solve a mystery like the Scooby-Doo formula it still mostly respects courage's as well. One thing that really worried me was that they were gonna debunk courage's more supernatural foes as ordinary baddies in masks like they've been doing but luckily they don't. The supernatural element is still very much there & the mystery gang are oblivious to it. Not to mention when the mystery is uncovered at the end and you find out whose behind it it put a big smile on my face. Although there's no freaky scary moments which is what courage is remembered for there are maybe a couple moments that can be pretty terrifying for younger kids. The voice cast for both sides are excellent. Frank Welker, Grey Griffin, and Matthew Lillard still do their roles as well as always. Velma's current voice actor Kate Micucci however im not a fan of. Just sounds like a female Steve Urkel. Marty Grabstein returns as courage & hasnt lost his touch after all this time. Thea White voices Muriel one final time before her death & shes also still great. I swear Muriel Bagg rivals Winnie the Pooh as the nicest cartoon character ever. Eustace is now voiced by Jeff Bergman due to the previous two voice actors passing away long ago & while its abit different he gets the job done voicing the grumpy greedy old fart.

As for negatives the movie feels a bit too padded out. Supposedly it was originally going to be just an episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who which probably wouldve been a better idea. There's one sequence in the movie where they go to a mansion and it just feels like its there just to show off a bunch of Courage fan service. Another negative is they try to give a reason for all the strange encounters courage had in his show and it's pretty unnecessary and honestly doesn't make too much sense. Also Eustace raps............yep you heard that right Eustace Bagg raps!

Though not perfect my expectations for this movie was better than I expected. Both shows get represented equally and it's just so fun watching their scenarios mixed together. 2021 gave me 2 crossovers I thought I'd never see in my life, the other being Spider-Man No Way Home.

for fans
SnoopyStyle31 October 2021
The gang captures the bank robbing clown. As Velma does her speech, Scooby Doo is hypnotized and runs off. He is drawn to Courage the Cowardly Dog who is also hypnotized by some unknown sound. Courage lives in Nowhere, Kansas with his owners, Eustace and Muriel Bagge. The farm is infested with giant cicadas.

I never saw the Courage the Cowardly Dog show but I do remember the cartoon designs. This is probably more for fans of that show rather than Scooby. Scooby has a wide range of compatriots and this is one of the weirder ones. It's not that unexpected but I do wish they stay closer to the Scooby mystery plot construction. This is for the fans, but probably more for Courage's fans.

Yup, disappointing
edd-martinas22 October 2021
Cute crossover, the 90's kids have been waiting for this one, I just feel like it could have been made a little "spookier". Out of all those creepy creatures and ghouls from both Scooby and Courage, you chose an ugly bug as the main villain???? Also some scenes were very dumb (like the canyon chase one).

It's not a terrible movie, but it is definitely a missed opportunity.

Disappointed
amitchell-9445316 September 2021
When I heard that they were making a crossover between Scooby Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog I got really excited because they were too great shows that I loved watching as a kid. I love that they kept all the characters and animation the same as I remember but the movie itself just didn't make sense to me. I felt like it was all over the place and it's definitely not what I remember watching as a kid on the shows separately. Even though I thought it was a great idea to have a crossover for both shows and I love that they involved a lot of the characters and the two main villains of Courage the Cowardly Dog, I just wish that the mystery was different.

The crossover I needed ever since my childhood!
daviddevilliers5414 September 2021
I grew up with both Scooby-Doo and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Both were my favourite shows as a kid and even now as an adult, I still love to rewatch them. I remember seeing a promo on CN about Scooby-Doo and Courage having a possible crossover and I was so excited, but alas, it never truly happened. It was just a marathon of the original shows. I was still hoping, deep down, that they'd eventually crossover and when I finally saw that trailer, I cried tears of joy.

This is the one crossover that actually makes sense! Both series are about a cowardly canine who has to deal with monsters and horrors. So now that I've finally seen it, I can safely say that my long wait for a crossover between Scooby-Doo and Courage has finally been worth it. This crossover had almost everything! I'm going to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, because I want people to enjoy this for themselves!

One major difference between both shows is that while Courage actually has to deal with real monsters, Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and the gang mostly deal with monsters who turn out to be fake. Also, judging by how they debunked everything in the past movies that established real monsters in Scooby-Doo, I was VERY worried about them debunking everything that happened in Courage the Cowardly Dog. I can't believe they're actually learning from their mistakes! Somehow, they managed to respect both franchises. We got a good classic Scooby-Doo mystery that is set in the nightmare fuel surreal world of Courage the Cowardly Dog.

Everyone is perfectly in character, especially the cast of Courage the Cowardly Dog. It's like he never left us. Also, RIP to Thea White, who voices Muriel here one last time before passing away. Jeff Bergman voices Eustace very well. The way they interact with Mystery Inc flows so naturally well. That climax is also very cinematic and is definitely something I WOULD see in a Courage the Cowardly Dog movie.

The twist on who's the culprit is also really awesome! There's also a LOT of Easter Eggs to Courage the Cowardly Dog so keep an eye out!

I only have a few nitpicks here and there. One is that I wish it could've been a little scarier. One thing many people remember from Courage the Cowardly Dog is how traumatizing it was with all the nightmare fuel. However, since Scooby-Doo is more lighthearted, the balance is still forgivable. The next are just a few jokes that don't land but other than that, really good movie!

I highly recommend this to anybody who's a fan of both series!

Good, Nostalgic, just didn't live up to expectations
davidsidogi2 February 2022
Maybe I'm biased cause I've never liked Scooby Doo movies (the series's are amazing though to me) but it was all over the place. But it was interesting seeing both worlds (courage's universe & Scoob's) collide.

A great send up for Courage.
wildcard975 December 2021
I'm willing to bet others, like myself, sought out this film for Courage. Well I'm certainly not disappointed as this film acts like a loving tribute and a good series finale for it.

Even though this is also a Scooby-Doo movie, the two groups of characters work well off each other and the voice cast give their performances like they're having fun with it.

In the third act, it's all for the Courage fans. I won't say here as hopefully you'll be shocked as I was to see who shows up.

I'm also willing to bet the writers only made this a crossover with Scooby-Doo so that it could get made as they were probably hesitant about a stand-alone Courage project, after the CGI short in 2014. But I'm glad they did.

Good crossover, great tribute, awesome finale to one of my favorite cartoons growing up.

RIP Thea White, making this her final film.

Just... no
tobrie-5376914 October 2021
This movie is an example of if you can't do it, then just don't do it. It tries to captivate everyone with the nostalgia. Yes, we all loved the nostalgia, but that isn't what makes a movie. It's just scooby doo wit. It had NONE of the charm from how Courage used to be. Courage wasn't even Courage. He barely talked, had no quick wit or sarcasm. And what's worse, the scooby doo gang had no real reason to be there. They didn't even really do anything.

This movie was clearly a cash grab. Just trying to make money off our nostalgia. And they couldn't even get that right. There are a bunch of better scooby doo movies. Go watch those.

And don't get me started on rapping Eustace. Who the heck approved the rapping Eustace!?

A strange crossover that works
LetsReviewThat2624 September 2022
To me this film was almost like a fever dream. I'm not even sure its real, but i'm happy it is. Since both shows are about monsters it only makes sense that scooby would one day find himself in the middle of nowhere. His first encounter with courage was interesting to watch. Insert ian malcolm quote here. But overall when it comes down to it an entertaining film. Of course its odd in someways how the animation style changes when we cross over to knowhere. I liked the plot with the mayor and the cicada creatures. This is the sort of thing I'd like to see more with another possible crossover. Even if it does not happen, i'm happy this film was made.

Creepy entertaining cowardice
TheLittleSongbird19 October 2022
Have always been a big fan of Scooby Doo ever since late single digits, with very fond memories of most of the incarnations airing on Saturday mornings (back when cartoons were airing on Saturday and Sunday mornings on Freeview channels) and marathons on Boomerang. Am also a fan of 'Courage the Cowardly Dog', with fond memories of watching it back when Cartoon Network was good, and really despair at the fact that people today have probably never seen it or even heard of it.

The animated Scooby Doo films have been hit and miss for the past since the mid-2010s, and luckily 'Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby Doo Meets Courage' is one of the hits. While liking the other 2021 Scooby Doo film 'The Sword and the Scoob', 'Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby Doo Meets Courage' is the better, more consistent, creepier and more entertaining film. It works incredibly well as a crossover, one of the best Scooby Doo crossover films, that is true to both characters without either over-shadowing the better and a good Scooby Doo film on its own.

'Straight Outta Nowhere Scooby Doo Meets Courage' has so many good things. The animation is great, very colourful and atmospheric as well as immensely rich in background detail. The music also fits without problem, with a lot of energy and atmosphere that makes one nostalgic for old Scooby Doo with a mix of contemporary and 'Courage the Cowardly Dog'. The voice acting is very good all round, Frank Welker's Scooby voice took getting used to when he first took over but he has come on a long way. Courage is also voiced beautifully. The mystery is fun, full of energy and creepiness, with a nice not too predictable reveal.

Most of the humour works incredibly well, with it being true to the humour in both Scooby Doo and 'Courage the Cowardly Dog'. It balances beautifully with the dark tone, the darkest Scooby Doo film in a long time without being too much so, and really did admire the sweet and heart warming finding courage moral (which doesn't preach thankfully). The film does a good job with keeping the characters true to character and easy to relate to, succeeding especially with Scooby and Courage, and making one feel nostalgic. Loved their teaming, which is relatable, beautifully balanced and it makes sense. Courage was truly inspirational in his role at the end. The villains are suitably nightmarish, not my favourite type of villains usually but they have real creepiness here and no unintentional goofiness.

Not without flaws though. Disliked the toilet humour (not my favourite kind of humour anyway), and none of it is necessary or funny and it actually jars with everything else. Disliked every bit as much the rapping, the rapping really made me cringe and is really out of place and out of character for the character that does it. Plus it comes "straight outta nowhere". Am not a fan of rap in general and the few times the franchise has included it it has never worked.

The rest of the gang are underused.

Overall, not great but has a lot of truly great things and a rock solid outing. 7/10.

Disappointed
robinsonaustin-0749014 September 2021
I loved Courage growing up so was excited to learn the show was teaming up with the Scooby-Doo gang since it made sense. Both shows have a cowardly dog and do spooky stuff, so you'd have yourself the perfect crossover.

When I found out that Dilworth was not on the project, it made me slightly worried because it felt wrong to not have his vision. But I thought it could work as long as they are able to meld both worlds together.

The film is good...but not perfect. The script for the film could have gone through a few more rewrites and proofreading to make the two franchises flow better. It doesn't really help that there is now modern technology that served as kind of a tonal whiplash.

The animation is fine. Considering how Nowhere is literally off the map and to itself, the original characters from the show and new denizens are drawn to reflect the weirdness of the town whereas the Mystery Gang is drawn in the same fashion they always are to contrast the more cartoony characters of Nowhere.

But I felt that the film failed to truly take advantage of the concept of two cowardly dogs being in the same film and the overall mystery felt lacking.

Horrible...
Toire17 September 2021
I usually love straight to video Scooby titles, even most of the crossovers. I liked the Courage cartoon. But this was not good. The art was bad. It was one continuous, bad-gag, chase scene with little that made Scooby & Courage good shows.

I love Scooby - but this one's not for me
Milk_Tray_Guy1 November 2021
Confession time: I'd never heard of Courage the Cowardly Dog. If it was shown in the UK, my kids certainly didn't watch it. So before seeing this, I watched a short documentary and some episodes I managed to find online. Some of the storylines were creepy and imaginative, but I didn't like the art style and animation, and I couldn't see how they'd pull off combining it with the more conventional style of Scooby-Doo. And honestly, I don't think they did.

Where do I start... 1) Trying to give each franchise equal screentime means that neither gets to shine; as a result, the Scooby gang feel criminally under-developed, with hardly any of the character interplay we normally see. 2) Courage's frequent, weird, fright-reactions; I realise they're normal for him, but when Scooby starts to do them it jars like hell. 3) Scooby-Doo is known for its chase sequences; done right they can be very funny, done poorly they quickly overstay their welcome. These are poor. One soon merges into the next. And the next. And so on... 4) The style of storytelling doesn't work. Scooby's is pretty conventional, Courage's (from what I've seen) is considerably more frenetic. Here it seems like a hybrid between the two - which doesn't sit right with either set of characters. It's a mess.

Scooby's voice cast of Frank Welker (Scooby/Fred), Matthew Lillard (Shaggy), Grey DeLisle (Daphne) and Kate Micucci (Velma) bring it as they always do (although Grey DeLisle sounds a little off at times, maybe she had a cold). I can't really say for the Courage cast, but they seem fine.

I completely understand that for those who grew up watching both Courage and Scooby this movie is probably a dream come true. But for me, it was a big disappointment. My ratings for Scooby-Doo movies since the fantastic Zombie Island (1998) are normally in the 7.5 - 8.5/10 range. This one gets 5.5/10.

BEST CROSSOVER EVER
mannysimonson14 September 2021
I was excited when I saw the trailer for this movie. My sister introduced Courage the Cowardly Dog to me when I was young. And I was hooked to the show. And when I finished watching the movie this morning on my phone, it was amazing! Especially all the references to the original Courage the Cowardly Dog tv series. This crossover was genius, and I'm glad we see Courage return! And R. I. P. Thea White. Voice of Muriel Bagge. This was her last voice acting roll and she will be missed. And Jeff Bergman did a really great job on voicing Eustace Bagge. He so got his character. Still this was the best crossover ever and I'm sure you all reading this will love it as well!

muqeetimran14 September 2021
This is the best thing I have watched after a very long time. Seeing two of my favorite characters Scooby and Courage together was something I always wished for in my childhood which is now fulfilled and I am very happy about it. Moreover thank god the animation was giving full classical Vybz which was the best thing about this movie. It was not like the new cringey animation used nowadays.

eltodesukane6 November 2021
This is one of the worst Scooby-Doo! Movie.

Story not interesting, bugs not interesting, Courage the Cowardly Dog not interesting. The artistic quality of the backgrounds and the animation is minimal, and the over the top neurotic overexcited action sequences are just too much.

gThorns4 October 2021
The movie does justice to both of Scooby and Courage and it is thoroughly entertaining.

The interactions are credible, funny and even character developing.

The story has some unexpected twists and turns and even moments where you wonder "what are they supposed to do now".

It has something for everyone.
