- Muriel whacks a cicada with a broom which comically explodes.
- The climax has a menacing tone to it. Objects and Debris are thrown around, and some characters wrestle/tackle each other.
- There is a car chase where character's lives are threatened. Yet it is mostly done comically and played for laughs.
- Cicadas are run over by a van and hit with a wooden croquettes mallet. They ooze green slime as a result.

- There is a scene where we see the shadow of people hanging over webs.
- The cicadas can be quite menacing at times.
- The climax has quite a menacing and dark tone to it. (The screen has a red filter)
