Let down by the ending!!!!
nalindra-ferdinando1 September 2021
This movie was so fun at the beginning but was messed up trying to introduce too many villains to the movie. Should have kept simple and would have been as epic as the first movie. This may do well as a hbomax series.

Animation is the obvious medium for Mortal Kombat
siderite10 September 2021
Animation allows for two things: anything you can think of can be displayed and nothing needs to listen to laws of physics or logic, because people have been trained since young that cartoons aren't real so you can suspend your disbelief as much as you like. That is why live action films will never work better than their animated original, but this is true especially for Mortal Kombat. The first 10 minutes of this film was better than the live action thing made recently (that I also enjoyed), for example.

And while the beginning was brilliant and the characters (a LOT of them) were quickly introduced in a way that didn't feel rushed, Raiden decisions felt really ridiculous and the ending was kind of bad. I liked the combination of 2D animation style and fatalities and X-ray moves that were taken from the games. The story was acceptable, too, and the fact that it was R-rated and villains and heroes died gruesome deaths randomly was awesome.

Bottom line: I love the MK Legends animations. They have good stories and characterization and use animation in a way that no live action or CGI could. It's not a perfect film or anything, but it was very enjoyable to me.

Enjoyable watch with some plot holes.
beylie31 August 2021
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Some holes in the plot, but it is still very enjoyable. I wish they'd make a series out of it because the character development is really rushed.

The animation is on par with the Scorpion movie, but the story isn't as good. A nod has to be given to the team that did the sound design. Really crisp and meaty sounds. Also nice to hear sounds familiar from the games used.

I sincerely hope there's more of these movies. IMHO, they're better than the live action flicks.

Good but not great
eliasmacanthony31 August 2021
The first one "scorpion revenge" was better, this tried to tell different stories all at once and did a clumsy job doing it but still good.

The third act is the real fatality.
Pjtaylor-96-13804419 October 2021
'Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms (2021)' is the follow-up to 'Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (2020)' that sees the heroes of Earthrealm take part in one final Mortal Kombat tournament in order to prevent Outworld from merging with their home and utterly destroying it. The piece starts out depicting the first meeting between Liu Kang and Raiden, seeming to suggest that Kang is its protagonist. Though he takes a major role towards the picture's finale, he's actually just one of the ensemble and this lack of focus makes his eventual rise to main character seem unearned and, even, unplanned. The film, in general, struggles to know what it wants to be. It's incredibly unfocused, with several plot strands (which usually reference events from the games) occurring at once and each detracting from the other. There's very little sense of character, too - so much so that most of the major deaths lack any real impact. Hands down, the biggest issue with the piece is its third act. Honestly, this segment would've been better off as an entirely separate movie, with the set-up that precedes it acting as a cliffhanger. As it is, it feels tacked-on, messy and, ultimately, underwhelming. It's actually rather unnecessary and takes the steam out of the narrative. Despite the movie's issues, though, it's still entertaining overall. It has plenty of energetic, exciting and extremely violent fight scenes that should satiate fans of the video-game franchise upon which it is based (which includes me, by the way). It's really fun to see the characters kick one another's butts in brutal ways, even if the carnage lacks any emotional weight (and it sometimes really ought to pack a punch). The flick is animated impressively and it has a strong aesthetic. The voice-work is good and the pacing is breezy enough that you'll never get bored. Though it isn't perfect, it's an enjoyable slice of animated action. It's one of the better video-game adaptations out there, even if it isn't as good as its predecessor. 6/10.

Good for the fans!
redkyng31 August 2021
I really liked the movie, violence and a very good animations, what bothered me is the plot, clearly incoherent and somehow not logical, the last 10 minutes are not that great too, it reminds the end of the Matrix revolution, good but could be better, overall it's a good movie especially for MK fans!.

Enjoyable animated foray into the Mortal Kombat franchise...
paul_haakonsen1 September 2021
Well, another foray into the cinematic variety of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise in 2021? Sure, why not? But this time it is an animated movie, for better or worse.

Of course I had to sit down and watch "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms", as I have been riding along on the "Mortal Kombat" wave since playing the very first game when it came out. And yeah, the movies that they have been putting out, aside from the 2021 version, have been cheesy and dubious at best. So I wasn't exactly harboring much of any expectations for "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms".

But I will say that writer Jeremy Adams and director Ethan Spaulding actually managed to put together an animated movie in the "Mortal Kombat" franchise that actually was entertaining to watch, while at the same time capturing the essence of the fighting games. And by that, of course, I mean all the mayhed, gore, mutilation and over-the-top violence. Yup, it is all here, in all its gory glory. And believe me, this is pretty gory.

Storywise, then it is "Mortal Kombat" in every aspect, Outworld vs. Earthrealm. Yeah, just as every other single foray into the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, so there is nothing new to be experienced here really, aside from the fight scenes and whom gets pitted against whom in the fights.

The visual presentation of "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms" was good. The art style used in this 2021 animated movie is something that feels like a mixture of the classic 1980s style and newer styles seen in animated movies. And guess what? It actually works out quite well for "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms".

The animation in "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms" is good and smooth, and it is definitely fast paced and looks great. So if nothing else, just lean back and enjoy the adrenalin-filled fights. And true to the "Mortal Kombat" blueprint, this was essentially just fighting from start to end. Sure, there was a pinch of storyline crammed in between the fights, classic "Mortal Kombat".

They had ensured to put in a good amount of characters from the franchise, including characters that have been along since the beginning, and also characters that found their way into the franchise as the years went by. So yeah, indeed there is something for everyone here.

I found "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms" to be entertaining.

My rating of this 2021 animated movie lands on a six out of ten stars.

Good movie.
valentin-849152 September 2021
Not as good as the first one but still pretty decent. The animation is really good and better than the first one, but the movie tries to focus on too many things at once and doesn't handle it too well by the end.

Some of the last scenes seem forced and innecesary and drag down what would otherwise have been an 8/10 imo.

Ultra-violent with a decent story. It's just good fun.
frankblack-7996115 September 2021
This isnt a theological franchise. Its Mortal Kombat people. I judge a lot of film and tv media quite harshly. The ones that are supposed to be taken seriously anyway. This was a quite enjoyable romp in the Mortal Kombat universe. I look forward to when they get a running network or online show going. They need one to move to the next level. Keep it up!

Good but disappointing follow up
masonsaul20 November 2021
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is a good but disappointing follow up, frustratingly rushing through multiple plot points and stories without any of them feeling like the main plot. However, it's still enjoyably action packed and satisfyingly violent. Joel McHale, Jennifer Carpenter, Dave B. Mitchell and Patrick Seitz are all great. Ethan Spaulding's direction is good and the animation is also great. The music by Eric V. Hachikian and John Jennings Boyd is really good.

Bit off more than they could chew
Nob0dy8 September 2021
The first movie is very good, part of the reason for that is they kept the scope relatively small. They introduced a handful of characters, established the concept of mortal kombat and did so in a way that makes it a good stand alone movie, you dont need to be a long standing fan of mortal kombat to enjoy it.

This sequel though they tried to do too much too fast.

They introduced lots of characters, some of whom get no lines of dialogue and are never addressed by name so anyone not already familiar with the franchise wont understand the relavence of them or their abilities.

Not only that but the characters that did get dialogue and played roles in the story were very shallow, I will avoid spoilers here, but there were multiple new enemies introduced, each with their own goals and methods and since the movie tries to squeeze 3 seperate plots into just 80 minutes of screen time none of them got the attention they deserved so all of them fall flat.

Lastly the ending felt very very rushed, this point ties into the one above about squeezing multiple stories into 1 short movie and this is most apparent towards the end. The writers simply copied the whole DBZ super saiyan, instant miraculous power increasing transformation mechanic which culminates to a dissapointing, unsatisfying, lazy and to be frank idiotic final few sequences that are utterly ridiculous and very very far removed from the entire concept of mortal kombat.

Finally a fitting battle
Sh31kh_H0kv51 September 2021
This is by far the best I have seen👀 yet,no one saw it coming but with every sacrifice comes greater power,in this case it was the chosen one, guided, nurtured and trained for this very battle.

Don't get me wrong the others helped too cause if it wasn't team effort no one would've stood a chance against the supreme.

The end was flawless .

Very Mediocre
maykalrif31 August 2021
Can't Believe it's written by the same guy as the first one, the first movie "MK: Scorpion's Revenge" was so good that i gave it 10 stars, but this one is a let down. I hope the next one is better.

For the fans... but a tad incoherent
sharpcourse6 September 2021
Scorpions revenge was a fresh take on this beautiful franchise that is spanning towards it's third decade. As a fan of the video games since it's inception in the family com and Sega consoles I'd always wanted an adaptation that will be true to the theme of the games and MK:Scorpion's Revenge delivered on that note a bit masterfully.

The sequel MK:BOTR was quite the hit and miss for me. The character premise were spot on but could have done with a bit more development. The voice actors did a wonderful job and I dare say Joel McHale's Johnny cage was my favourite. Their portrayals were very true to the source material unlike the recent movie where the functions of Raiden and Liu kang were questionable.

The problem with this movie is that it tried to cram in too much into one plot in an attempt to be epic. Mortal Kombat has enough material, in my opinion, to span across three or four movies but they meshed up the various storylines into an insufficient runtime which made the plot a bit too incoherent. Various dynamics could have been explored further. There's the Shaolin monks' plotline that could have been enjoyable to watch but there was hardly any interaction between Kung Lao and Liu kang. The Fire and Ice storyline took a direction that was well handled and it was even a delight to have the Lin Kuei grandmaster portrayed in this one.

In the gore department, it delivered and I'm sure fans will be duly satisfied. The fatalities were handled creatively except for the motivations of a character like Shao Kahn whose choice on who's worthy of fatalities is questionable.

Overall an enjoyable movie. Animation, fight choreography, score and voicing were spot on. Highly recommended.

Mortal Kombat Legends: battle of the realms

Really gory and tasteful action scenes (not with the x-ray reveals of fatalities). It has its goofs and inconsistencies, but remains really enjoyable!

Finish Him
EdwardtheBlackPrince2 December 2021
Mortal Kombat legends: battle of the Realm's The Sequel to Scorpions Revenge. Shao Khan's forces wage war on Earthrealm as Raiden and the others manages to hold him back. Though in an attempt to finally claim the realm and be free of interference. Shao Khan convinces Raiden to go seek the Elder Gods to enact one final Mortal Kombat to determine the fate of all realms. Now Earthrealms champions travel to outworld to Battle for the fate of the Realms. Given how scorpion revenge ended it seemed rather obvious that a sequel would follow, and here were giving Shao Khan and the battle of the realms. While the movie does still manages to satisfy it's tone of violence and gore with it's fight scenes. It's pacing feel rather rush and compact, and the characters this time around come off as kinda flat. With the exception of a few new characters like Kung Lao and Stryker of all Characters. Everyone you've seen in scorpions revenge is here, and while they're all here for the sake of their world. Not much time is really giving for any characters to really flesh out. The exceptions being Raiden and Liu Kang no other reason but to give Liu Kang strength to fight. Raiden becomes mortal and enters the tournament and reallly try to push the connection and motivation between the two of them. Liu Kang as the chosen one is really push in this even more then usually. But they don't have any incentive to feel invest in his destiny. Until the end in the final act where it feels rather rushed. There's really not that much interaction between everybody to make it feel like a team effort. Kitanna still doesn't really have a personality in this and really no real relationship towards Liu Kang same with Sonia and Johnny. There's also this second subplot going on that involves Scorpion and Sub-Zeros feud with Kaui Lang seeking revenge for his brothers death. The Cyber Lin Kuei and Shinnok are thrown into the whole film. This could have worked to help fill the film if it just chosen to focus on Hanzo and Kaui Lang relationship over Bi-Han. You cut away and kinda forget about them Their rivalry is barely acknowledged. Subzero and Scorpion could have been focus on more along with the outworld battle,With everything going on this movie feel cluttered. This movie basically takes elements from Mk 2,3,4. While it's nice to actually get a story outside the island tournament and the fights are excessive. It still sort of a mess The Whole thing with Shinnok could have been Scraped for another Film.

Subpar - was it really the same team that did "Scorpion's Revenge"?
muharizj7 September 2021
Pros - action, MK characters, and animation style

Cons - just about everything else. There's too much going on - it might have fared better if split across multiple chapters.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE
brendofernandes1 September 2021
Very good movie i had a lot of fun watching together with my brothers, the story can be a bit rushed, but this movie is definitely everything the fans wanted, a story that doesn't mind pleasing a political agenda, a much better plot compared to recent games.

This movie should fatality itself
MovieBuck27 September 2021
This movie is simply awful and doesn't do anything with mk's rich lore. Also there was some weird thing about consent. Consent is important but does not belong in mortal kombat. For some reason hero characters are killed in the most gruesome way possible versus the villain characters who are mostly spared. The fights suck and only last like 10 seconds. My biggest gripe is the pacing. This movie is trying to combine too many mortal kombat games into a 80 minute movie. If mortal kombat lore is important to you than you won't like this awful hot mess of a movie.

Rushed Yet Entertaining Fan Service
ksharath19995 September 2021
The sequel to the well acclaimed Scorpion's Revenge is nothing more than a fan service end to the things that are set up in the previous movie. Its yet another MK adventure filled with action,x ray fatalities and of course emotional surprising deaths. Adrenaline rush the movie delivers is the factor that tops all pros of the film, the flick is constructed with a watchable first half and suddenly out of nowhere we get a top notch non stop mass second half which is worth an experience. When it comes to characters Lui Kang,Sub Zero, Scorpion, Raiden fans have lot to cherish this time as the movie is mainly driven around them. Shao Kahn is weak in the beginning but turns terrifying in the second half while Shinnok delivers the mad god performance from the start itself.

However, there are too many rushed parallel storylines in the movie which sounds weird at times. Final monster designs is below par compared to rest of the designs. Last but not the least the whole movie feels like a forced end to all problems in earth realm for the time being.

In the end, this venture from MK franchise is a goosebump filled fan targeted ride which wraps up all things faster than expected.
