Very Good

Hong Kong's official submission to 2022's Oscars is decent and inspiring. Its true story is uplifting and beautiful. It's an emotional roller coaster. It's only issue is that at times it gets cheesy and dramatic in a forced way. Performances are great. All in all, it's still very good and enjoyable.

Proud of Hong Kong, and his mom...
ryanmo-351789 May 2022
The life of So Wah Wah, the multiple gold medals winner in Olympics. He was born as handicapped, but he liked running a lot and represented Hong Kong. This movie was mainly about him and how his mom did not give up on him. Like the theme that 'You walk slower than the others, but you run faster.' I forgot his performance, but when I saw that he has to give up running to do a living, and won a gold medal in Beijing with a new world record, was so so touched... :>

An emotional roller coaster
Gordon-115 September 2021
This is such a touching story, that it made my very many times. The dialogues are very strong. There are many occasions where a sentence can evoke many lasting emotions. Production is great as well. It really makes viewers feel a roller coaster of feelings throughout the film. I really enjoyed watching this film.

some feelings

Gonggongzheng's inspirational films can be seen as a control group with great dad. Compared with Dad, they are more sensational and unrestrained, but they have more memory in the story. It's not so much "Mom's magic boy" as "Mom of magic boy". The narrative focus and perspective have their own considerations, so it can only be said to be stable. Wu Junru's performance was not a big surprise. For actors at her level, such role shaping is completely within the scope of ability, but at the moment when similar actors are weak, they may still receive a nomination for the queen of the golden statue.

"Even if you start slow, you can still finish"
wills-fam-1216 January 2023
I hope to remember those words!

I watched for inspiration and inspired I was...

Every one doesn't need to be famous or to be extraordinary but we all can be moved to be the best version of ourselves--to overcome impossibles. To "do" when others say "can't"; even if in small ways.

Though part of the Netflix brand, this movie is low budget and uses voice overs. Overlook this, activate your imagination and allow yourself to be inspired!

When sad, it allows me to see that life can be worse; others have it harder. Happiness doesn't need riches. Poor families can have joy.

What can I achieve?

What is your definition of "great"?

It's good that Netflix delivers quality content to us.

Inspirational

It is a true life of a handicapped athlete story So Wa Wei. I tried not to watch as feel this kind of story is always the same. But the details really touching and belief yourself, never give up even is what everyone can say, but how many can make it indeed? World record holder story just prove attitude and her mum belief is the matter.

Not ordinary but extraordinary

Emotionally engaging, entertaining and inspirational.

Can't remember how many years has passed since I've enjoyed a HK movie. Firstly, the movie title Zero to Hero is aptly brilliant. Know from the start what you're in for - a biopic of underdog to wonderboy. Our hero So Wa Wai is Hong Kong's first gold medallist paralympian ... the theme for Chariots of Fire silently goes off playing in my head.

Watched with mum on Netflix today. I cried from start to end, whilst mum cried only in one scene when the hero puts a gold medal over his mother's neck.

Acting is so convincing that one would think if all three newbie actors of different ages portraying the hero are actually handicapped or not. The young child, the school kid and the adult all superbly showcase distinctive facial nuances, voice spasms and movement reflexes of a handicap. And please excuse me, I do not mean to call So Wa Wai a handicap. So Wa Wai is a hero.

HK has always performed well in paralympics. I wish for HKSAR govt to support paralympians even more with the success of this movie bringing to forefront the struggles of paralympians and athletes.

Brilliant! I love it.

It's a warm story that'a easy to watch and get into for a relaxing time. It's well made and it's fun to watch Ng Kwan Yu take this on so well as the loving mother. It's just fun.

Such a great movie! So full of inspiration and courage, shows the struggles and hard life, sacrifice behind any sportive, especially a paralympic! The story of his mother that supports him in all possible ways, who gave all for him is so, so lovely. What a lesson of life for today generations and for further athletes! Love it! 👌

Beautiful movie

Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyed this story on Netflix. I loved the acting. I hope the actors and the people they depict in real life get paid well for this movie. I felt sad for the able-bodied younger brother in the movie (and also in real life because I read it's unlikely he sold the gold medals in reality). But i loved the storyline of perseverance and hope against odds as well as the depth of motherly, family and community love.

A Good Tear Jerker
Mabkid10 October 2022
It's cheesy.

But if you're in the mood for a good tear jerker, this is well done. It's based on the true story of So Wai Wa, paralympian who participated in 3 Paralympics and still holds current records in track, which is quite an accomplishment for a Hong Kong athlete. The struggles of the protagonist and the mother are at the center of the drama. Some very real issues include worrying about the future of a handicapped person after the parents are gone, the bankability of an athlete, equal pay for all athletes, poverty... but for me personally is the responsibility (guilt) of parents of handicapped children that can be felt in this production piece.

Besides the drama, props must be given to the 3 actors who played the young, teenage and adult Do Wai Wa... so good! And the actress who played the mother, all made this drama work brilliantly!

Good Canto drama based on real events!

life's harsh realities submit to courage
KexUK3 December 2022
It is not possible to watch such a true story without one has an emotional response. So if your emotions frighten you, don't watch. There is such enormous power in a true story like this that is a well made film with excellent actors and beautifully filmed.

When an individual overcomes such obstacles in life as So Wa Wai has done to not simply exist but to become a world champion in his field it is a startling reminder of the human potential and this is magnificently displayed in this film.

At no point in this film was I left bored or felt something was missing. At times it was almost like a fantasy film, or had the tensions associated with a mystery. It was thoroughly entertaining and a wonderful, wonderful true story. Many thanks for allowing us to share this.
