Super Duper Cute
actorjackmurillo13 February 2023
Okay guys. When you choose this movie to watch, and other movies like it, you have to understand what kind of ride you're going on. You don't get in line for the goliath at Six Flags if you want a calm nice relaxing afternoon theme park ride. In the same way you don't put on "at midnight" if you're looking for awards caliber, cinema changing content. So you have to calibrate yourself to what you're choosing to watch. All that said, it was a super cute, intentionally cheesy, funny, romantic comedy that kept me and my fiancée, laughing and smiling and giving each other cheesy giggles from beginning to end. So If you don't have a giant, self-important, film-snob stick up your a**, I think you'll Enjoy this movie a lot.

Breezy and pleasant but utterly forgettable and predictable
paul-allaer15 February 2023
As "At Midnight" (2023 release; 99 min.) opens, we see a clip of the latest superheroes movie "Super Society", starring Adam and Sophie, also an item off screen. Alas, Sophie finds out that Adam is cheating on her. When the movie production moves to Mexico, we are introduced to Alejandro, the hotel's assistant manager and all-around good guy. It's not long before Alejandro and Sophie run into each other...

Couple of comments: this is the 2nd feature length from director Jonah Feingold ("Dating & New York"). Here he brings us a romcom that is as breezy and pleasant as it is utterly forgettable and predictable. The movie's opening credits try to position the film as a 1950s-reminding romcom, perhaps even as a screwball comedy (which is quickly abandoned). It certainly helps that there is good chemistry between the two leads: Monica Barbaro (also in last year's "Top Gun Maverick") as Sophie, and Diego Bonte as Alejandro. The beautiful scenery in Mexico is also a plus, and the photography takes maximum advantage of the sun light. So it's all good while you are watching it, just don't expect something memorable.

"At Midnight" started streaming on Paramount+ a few days ago, just in time for Valentine's Day (of course!). If you are in the mood for a pleasant but forgettable romcom, I'd readily suggest you check this out, and draw your own conclusion.

Just go with it

If you're looking for a pleasant way to spend an hour and half and not tax your brain try this movie. It's definitely in the Hallmark mode and even has believable chemistry between the main leads. I especially like Monica Barbaro who has had roles on 2 shows I liked that were cancelled Splitting Up Together and Stumptown as well as some others. The supporting cast was good although I thought the agent was a bit cringeworthy. I liked the Spanish/English dialogue but I would've like subtitles in the English speaking parts. The setting was also quite lovely. However it felt Paramount definitely made a low budget movie compared to Netflix or Prime. Still as a whole I liked this movie and rated as a tv movie.

This movie was bad, but a good kind of bad
nathangoffnett3 March 2023
The dialogue was absolutely terrible. I mean, some of the writing was trying to be self-aware but was actually just cringeworthy. But the poor writing mixed with the mediocre acting actually had me laughing out loud throughout the entire film. The lines are so shocking that I physically could not believe it was in the movie. It was pretty fun in that regard. The plot is as generic as one could expect. Monica Barbaro was actually pretty solid in this film. I think she has a ton of potential in a film that was actually attempting to be good. Overall, I would not recommend At Midnight unless you are interested in laughing at its absurdity.

Score: 33% Verdict: Bad (but fun)

Surprisingly enjoyable bilingual romantic comedy.
cgvsluis3 June 2023
Super hero movie star, Sophie Wilder, catches her co-star-boyfriend cheating on her and has to finish making their current film on location in Mexico. Her agent, in a true conflict of interest who represents both of them, convinces Sophie not to let anyone know that her and Adam have broken up until after the filming wraps.

Stressed, but trying to make the most of it Sophie meets the assistant manager of the hotel, Alejandro. The two develop feelings for each other that they both must hide.

Lots of Spanish language in this film...which I loved and a slow burn romance that seemed fairly healthy. I think open minded romantics will enjoy this film. There were several great supporting characters that brought both the comedy and some of the more serious topics to light (like Alejandro's family).

The big surprise for me was the actor playing Alejandro, Diego Boneta. He was wonderful and reminded me of a Latin Michael Bublé.

It was not Hallmark cringe but it was not remarkable either. I found that the storyline was too simple, like imagine you can skip whole parts of the film without missing anything. It lacked that special something. Also the thing between them, it all came together so fast. You couldn't tell when did they fell in love or what? Which is not good for a rom com. The actors were fine and the leads fitted. Not in a way that they would get you shipping them though. And that's also not good for a rom com. I wouldn't watch it again but go ahead and watch if you have a couple of hours to spare and want to relax.

Notting Hill, but not
huw-6317617 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Movie star and common man share awkward meet-cute, movie star is then jilted by incumbent movie star boyfriend, bringing aforesaid common man into picture. A date or two ensues, including birthday dinner with common man's family. Lifestyle and status differences prove troublesome, common man gets questionable love advice from goofy friend, along the way movie star is compromised, acts up, and ends up standing in front of common man, asking him to love her. Sound familiar? At Midnight doesn't have Notting Hill's characterization or its class. It has Monica Barbaro. So, who cares if it's frivolous right? Not this red blooded male. No sir. I was quite fine with its shallow predicaments and its predictability, as only having eyes for Monica, who did not disappoint.

It was a Great Lifetime style Movie
cowboylove-7744420 February 2023
I highly recommend this. It's obvious this isn't a movie made for the theater and I can't rate it at those standards. It was a higher level of of a Lifetime/Hallmark movie.

This movie had a great storyline, acting was great, the Chemistry worked really good between actors and characters, and the it wasn't hoky. Definitely a feel good movie.

Diego did very well as a Hotel employee, and like always made it a fun movie. He doesn't' get the credit he deserves, hopefully they'll start casting him in larger budget blockbusters. Monica also did a great job, wasn't familiar with her work but was very impressed.

Really Pleasant Movie
bellemezgec19 April 2023
The acting of the 2 main characters were great! They had wonderful chemistry. It was a really cute, fun love story but yet comical at times too! Better than a Hallmark movie. The only thing I would have changed was the pretend movie the main character played in. Instead of Firefinia maybe something more realistic. At first I thought it might be a science fiction or marvel type movie but then I realized she was an actress playing an actress. I never heard of the 2 main stars but they were very good! The co stars were good too especially the main characters (female) best friend. I would definitely recommend it.

Funny and cute
hajacks27 September 2023
Super cute classic romcom with a great supporting cast. It doesn't take itself too seriously which I loved a lot. The main actors were great and had great chemistry. I loved that it was bilingual and bicultural. It also gave a telenovela feel mixed with old Hollywood/Nora Ephron. I'm a huge romcom fan and this is definitely my favorite of 2023. Really great and cute and sweet and sexy. So fun to see Anders Holm in the movie (I'm a big workaholics fan). Give it a watch if your interested in something fun and cute. I'm giving it a 10 because it nailed its genre and it was well acted with super funny side characters.
