Zoë Kravitz started writing Blink Twice under the original working title Pussy Island in 2017. Kravitz intended on keeping this title for the film but a negative reception from the MPAA, women, and theaters lead to her changing it.
Early on when Frida is viewing her phone there's a quick glimpse of a viral video of Lenny Kravitz doing an ab workout in the gym. He's the father of Zoë Kravitz, the director/writer of this movie.
In one scene Lucas (Levon Hawke) holds an "original Hattori" knife said to be made in Okinawa. Levon's mother is Uma Thurman, star of Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), which is referenced in this scene.
In June 2021, Zoë Kravitz revealed her plans to make her directorial debut with the film, the script of which she co-wrote with E.T. Feigenbaum.
