It was bearable, until the ending
Top_Dawg_Critic25 July 2021
It felt like one of those "Lifetime" type TV movies, and there's nothing wrong with that if you know what to expect, and are OK with it, of which I was.

The story actually was interesting and believable from the start until towards the end, but then the nonsense, ridiculous and cringeworthy plot-hole scenes started towards the end. As if a small framed girl can overpower two men, one of them weighing probably three times more than her and easily one foot taller. It was just infantile and lazy writing, and it's odd there's no mention who the writer is. The terrible 15 minute ending alone was reason for my subtracting 2-3 stars off the rating. Yes, it's that bad compared to the rest of the film.

The cinematography and that gorgeous house setting was on point, but the score was loud and overbearing - typical of a low budget B-film. The casting and performances were decent, especially Crystal-Lee Naomi as Alicia, who only has 13 acting credits under her belt. But the much more experienced Jennifer Freeman as Morgan - with 31 acting credits, was awful right from the start. She was unconvincing, too aloof, and seemed like it was her first acting gig. Nevertheless, I did sit through the entire not-too-greatly paced 84 mins, and thus it's a generous 5/10 from me.

Eye candy

A really good looking cast carries this rainy day thriller. As usual with these types, the acting is just so-so, esp the actor playing Zander(?) The actress playing Alicia was fairly strong, however.

If you are into "The Wrong..." type of movies or any psycho neighbor/ex/poolboy type of thriller, you would probably enjoy this.

Gorgeous home and clothing, to boot.

A somewhat bland thriller...
paul_haakonsen21 November 2023
Needless to say that I had never heard about this 2021 thriller titled "Twisted House Sitter" prior to sitting down and watching it here in 2023. I had the opportunity to watch it, and since it was a movie that I had never seen, nor heard about, of course I opted to give it a chance.

Writer Daniel Whidden put together a fair enough script and storyline. Sure, it was somewhat generic and predictable, but it proved to be entertaining enough for what it was. And I suppose that die hard fans of the thriller genre will get a kick out of the movie.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and that was something I enjoyed. It is nice to see new talents on the screen and don't accidentally associate them with previously portrayed characters in other movies. The acting performances in "Twisted House Sitter" were okay.

I found "Twisted House Sitter" to be a watchable, but somewhat bland thriller, and there are far more thrilling and interesting thrillers readily available out there. It is the type of movie that you watch once, then shelf it and never look at it again.

My rating of director Courtney Miller's 2021 movie "Twisted House Sitter" lands on a four out of ten stars.

Lifetime-esque

Warning: Spoilers
Which works in the movie's favor. The set up of the plot was believable although you'd think that Morgan's assistant and her handyman, who seem to be close to her would have been as suspicious as the housekeeper. You'd think they'd know any "friends" she'd let stay in her home in her absence. But hey...it's a Lifetime trope so it fits. The cringiest thing about the movie was the acting. The only actor I recognized was Jennifer. The two gents, Xander and Charlie, were a bit hard to watch. They were handsome, for sure, but their acting could use some polishing.

Some of the same annoying Lifetime tropes are here and I agree with another reviewer. When Alicia snuck up on Charlie with the knife, he should have easily been able to flip her off of him. She was even able to subdue him enough to tie him up. Come on. She overpowers Xander as well and he's bigger than Charlie. It's never believable when movies do this. It's also kind of amusing that X had to die because Morgan probably would have stayed with him instead of the last minute happily ever after with the other guy, who was also attracted to Alicia, but didn't go as far as the ex.

The Keystone Cops were useless here as well. Just like on Lifetime. They could have been scrapped and Morgan and her friends/employees could have handled tracking and catching Alicia on their own. I don't even remember the police providing an officer to sit outside of her home. I like that the detective did point out that other homes in the neighborhood had security measures in place. It made zero sense that she didnt.

The climax was the typical climax with this movies. The pink lighting didn't bother me as much as I expected, and it fit the mood of the scene. I mean, it wasn't the worst I've ever seen and if you are a passive Lifetime watcher like me, nothing here will surprise you or be anything you've never seen, and can't passively sit through.

I just started watching Tubi, so I stumbled on this movie. I watched it while cooking, and I enjoyed it enough to finish it. I may watch again if I need background noise. This movie was somewhat of an indictment on social media. Criminal behavior gets followers and a "team" and fan mail. It all happens in real life, so props to the movie for the realism. I'd say the movie lasted maybe 15 minutes longer than it had to, given that Alicia's scheme was figured out fairly soon.

Loved the house. The clothing isn't my style, but the fashion seemed to fit Morgan's world.

Tubi insanity
BandSAboutMovies6 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's a total accident that brings Alicia (Crystal-Lee Naomi) into the world of Morgan (Jennifer Freeman), a successful entrepreneur on her way to a retreat where she's supposed to detox from technology for an entire month. Morgan leaves her keys in the car and Alicia is tempted to live the rich woman's life for a day. Then a week. And then the trouble starts.

After several days, Morgan's housekeeper Daya Perez (Suzanne Salhaney) and groundskeeper Charlie (Kareem Lewis)arrives and question who Alicia is. She tells her that she's the house sitter, which they believe. But after she starts wearing Morgan's clothes and running up her credit cards, Daya argues with Alicia and ends up going head first into a rock, dying instantly.

After throwing Daya into a river, Alicia takes this whole single black female thing way too far by convincing Morgan's man Xander (Ali Amin Carter) that he's been dumped. They hook up, but it's a small victory as soon, Morgan is back.

Is Alicia ready to go back to basically being homeless? Well, she wouldn't be in a Tubi movie if she were. She's the kind of Lifetime - err, Tubi - villainess who may not have the best motivations, but goes extra bonkers and shrugs off corkscrew impalement.

Directly by Courtney Miller (A Stone Cold Christmas) and written by Daniel Whidden, this movie has a cast of people who are all losing it every single moment, as I demand from films such as this. What can we learn from it? Always hold on to your keys, don't take a rideshare and stay away from cults that hold on to your tech.

Just Bad!
pgkps13 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Acting was wooden and predictable. The scenes in the photography studio were set up like no one has ever been in an actual professional photographers studio while they portray her as a very high end shooter! The house is very nice but 8,000 + sq ft for one woman? If you have 90 minutes to waste go ahead and turn your brain off.

Oof, I went between a high 6 and a 7 but honestly, this sublime cheese kept me entertained throughout. If you're in need of a popcorn thriller, check this one out! Sure, it's been done before but I'm happy Tubi pulled in all the best obsession tropes to turn out a fun story. I loved it.

A great Lifetime-like thriller
mjanssens2618 July 2021
A down on her luck Uber driver drops off a wealthy client at the airport and once the client jets off, the driver decides to live the high life at the client's house without the client knowing. This is a Tubi Tv streaming exclusive with excellent production values, fast pacing and likeable characters. If you think the plot sounds like it couldn't possibly happen in 2021, the way the story is written, it makes perfect sense. All in all, a fun ride and the time went by quickly. This is very much a popcorn thriller in the style of Lifetime or Hallmark.

This was like a Lifetime Plus Movie
th-910714 October 2021
It was typical but a little better than the regular Lifetime Movies. I actually enjoyed the movie ! I watched it on Tubi, I didn't select the movie it just happened to start playing after another movie I watched. So I decided to see what it was about. It kept me interested and didn't bore me at all.

Seen Worse
gab-6759926 July 2021
I actually didn't hate this movie. I think Alicia was drop dead gorgeous! Her psycho guest was not as attractive. There were things throughout the movie that were hard to believe would happen in real life and for that this was a bad movie. I mean, at least get the little things right! If this movie was a bit more believable this would be a good attempt at a LM. But it was good if you like drama with holes in it. Oh, and unbelievable scenarios.

So bad it's great
gymnckv14 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is definitely a Lifetime movie of the week kind of movie with beautiful actors and scenery and outfits. The plot was very promising and could've gone further. The two lead actors who played Alicia and Morgan did a good job especially Alicia. I was hoping Morgan would turn out to be a bit more spicy and a challenge for Alicia, like "B*tch, please!" So that felt like a missed opportunity. Xander was good looking but his acting was so horrible it was fun watching him. Charlie was my favourite character, really cute and sweet and someone you really cared about. Overall I enjoyed it. It was a fun, guilty pleasure.

As good as a lifetime movie gets
LostShiba25 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The film starts off with the protagonist going on a vacation without any social media because she is a famous model agency owner and has millions of followers on social medias. She uses a ride share program to get to the airport and accidentally leaves her keys behind. The driver, who was very much less unpopular in comparison to "Madison" decides to use this opportunity to take a free vacation in the wanderlust woman's mansion. Lots of plot twists and things a actual criminal would do are displayed. As far as the usual romance in lifetime movies this isn't as bad. I'm a male and didn't mind watching it.

Naomi did very well actually and the story had me gripped until near the ending at 7am in which I was struggling to not fall asleep otherwise I would probably give it a solid 8. Crystal is also a decent actress.

It did what it was supposed to do.
klashaye18 July 2021
I enjoyed this movie. It didn't seem low budget, though I don't know what the budget was. It had a beautiful cast. I would've liked more character development, but I feel each character did well in bringing their characters to life. I especially loved the female leads. I adored childhood best. I could totally see this situation happening in real life, so I can appreciate that they didn't have all the characters making stupid decisions, but there was two who did.

Overall, this was a great movie and worthy of a watch. If it was a little longer to develop the characters, it would have been even better. But, It did what it was supposed to do, entertain.

Actually Decent
ahcha13 July 2023
Good cast, Great Story line. Decent actors. Part 2 is worth checking out as well. Only, thing is certain parts will piss you off. I really think they could played around with some of plot and climax scenes The suspense is worthy. Man I won't a Alisha Roberts so bad, she is so fine. Morgan was cuter in younger days. Enough about how find these women are. I need to get these required characters in. They could have choose a better boyfriend and you'll know what I'm talking about once you watch or if you've watched already you know what I'm talking about. Other than that this is in my watch again list. Left off good for part 2.
