Cheesy, but cute
KaraleeCupcake11 November 2022
The movie is cheesy, but cute. There are a few issues and you have to suspend your belief that Jake would not remember the lady he ran into earlier that day, hospital staff would let Sierra leave with a stranger, and no one would contact Sierra's father even with her missing for four days. Also, the scenes with Ralph and Tad seemed out of place, but I guess they were trying to go for comedy there. The movie is also predictable, but pretty much every romcom movie set around Christmas is. It is nice seeing Lindsay Lohan in a new movie, and she did a fine job playing Sierra. She also had a good connection with Chord Overstreet who played Jake. The movie is nothing new, but it is a fine movie to watch to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Hallmark Netflix
kosmasp16 November 2022
No pun intended - and I do not mean to make light of Hallmark movies. Unless you find them annoying - but why are you here if that is the case? I think the title is quite the easy giveaway. Lohan plays an adorable and yet quite shallow character ... some may confuse her character with her own personality. I do not know her, but I would assume she is way more than that. Also: acting.

All that aside, the movie and the story (if you can call it that) is quite predictable. We know where this is going ... suspend your disbelief, check your cynicism at the door and just watch it and enjoy the silliness and ... well whatever you would call this "sweet" movie.

Also there are some fun bloppers/gag reel at the end of the movie (during the end credits)

Script fell down.
pattyrusciano11 November 2022
There was a lot of hype about this movie and it could have been very good. Lindsay Lohan was better than most of the actresses in these Christmas romances and the lead actor was also fine but why the ridiculous boyfriend and his odd story line, it did not add anything to the movie and it's absurdity dragged the rest of the movie down, it did not fit with the style the rest of the movie was projecting of a homespun Christmas. I know he was meant to contrast but it just was absurd, not amusing. The little girl gave Lindsay some of her finer scenes. It was not the worst Christmas movie, the production was better than 90% of this type but it was a little overdone too and mainly it lacked something in the script unfortunately. It wasn't that it was predictable, we all know that going in, it just did not entertain or draw you in. So not bad, but not good either, just another average Christmas movie.

Standard holiday rom-com with an appealing cast
IonicBreezeMachine11 November 2022
Set in a luxurious mountaintop ski resort, Sierra Belmont (Lindsay Lohan) is the pampered heir to the prestigious Belmont Hotels and is currently dating influencer Tad Fairchild (George Young) while also being pressured by her father Beauregard (Jack Wagner) to take the position of VP of Atmosphere for Belmont hotels, a position that carries no real responsibility. Meanwhile at the neighboring North Star Lodge, Jake Russell (Chord Overstreet) the widowed owner of the lodge is struggling to keep the resort alive in the face of competition from larger resorts and Airbnbs. When Jake's daughter, Avy (Olivia Perez) makes a Christmas wish, Sierra finds herself knocked unconscious during Ted's proposal with the two of them separated after fall down the cliff. Jake finds the unconscious Sierra during a sleighride and takes her to town for medical assistance, but Sierra has suffered memory loss and has no identification. Jake offers Sierra a room at the lodge until someone finds her or her memory returns and finds difficulty adjusting to the simpler ways of doing things.

Falling for Christmas is the latest Christmas rom-com from Netflix which like many streamers and cable channels routinely churns out these well trodden formula films with great regularity with the template popularized by Hallmark's TV movies to the point "Hallmark" has become synonymous with these kinds of films even if the film itself has nothing to do with Hallmark. Falling for Christmas was announced in May 2021 as part of a two picture deal between Netflix and Lindsay Lohan who will next year release Irish Wish for the streamer. The movie's positioned as something of a "comeback" for Lohan, and while I don't know what, if any, long term effect this film will have, it pretty much delivers on what you expect from this kind of movie.

It's pretty pointless critiquing the plot of not just one of these films, but pretty much any romantic comedy as the genre is heavily based on formula and gimmick so the elevating factor will always be whether the writing is strong and the chemistry between the leads is good. The writing in Falling for Christmas pretty much knows what kind of movie this is down to the opening phone call between Sierra and Tad so thick with fast delivered exposition you could cut it with a knife. You can recognized all the tropes you know such as spoiled socialite who gets taken back "down to earth", precocious child character, widowed good hearted single father male lead, and quirky small town residents. The movie is more or less a redress of the 1987 rom-com Overboard only minus the revenge/servitude angle that's made that film have something of a hindsight re-evaluation. For what the cast are called to do, they do it well and the cast do seem to have genuine chemistry with each other as you can see in the outtakes (which I recommend you stick through). Lohan and Overstreet are appealing leads and they do seem fun together, but I think the funniest part was the B-plot where Sierra's finance Tad treks through the woods with a hermit played by Sean J. Dillingham which has some standard "fish out of water" gags but there's something about the way these two work off each other that makes the scenes work.

What more can I even say here? You know exactly what kind of movie this is and whether or not you're going to watch it. I guess all I can say is I did laugh and enjoy myself and I liked the cast.

Watched it for Lindsay stayed for the Xmas spirit.
mywakinglife0112 November 2022
This was a fun and adorable lighthearted Christmas movie. Yes I mostly put it on to see Lindsay make her great comeback and I'm ready for her to be the new queen of Christmas. It put me into the holiday spirit. It's not a deep plot nor was I expecting it to be. Ignore the low ratings and sourpusses and enjoy the glory that is Lindsay Lohan making her comeback. The imagery is great with the backdrop of a snowy ski resort decked out with boughs of holy. It's not that serious so I'm flabbergasted by the super low reviews. I'm really not sure what those people were expecting but it's still a delightful movie to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Sucks
akonaludidi16 November 2022
This movie is quite possibly the worst thing I've seen this year.

The acting sucks. With the exception of the sweet little girl, they none of the actors put effort into making the movie special.

Lindsay has had okay performances, this wasn't one of them. Maybe she should consider soapies because she clearly hasn't developed her craft since we last saw her.

None of the characters have any depth. They look 40+ but act like they're in their twenties.

The dialogue sucks. Was there a team of writers? We're any of them older than twelve?

The plot is predictable and overdone. Sucks.

Seriously, the only good thing about this movie was the setting.

Tailored for it's audience
zcsosebee11 November 2022
Take this movie for what it is...it's Christmas romcom a la early 2000s meant to spark that twinge of nostalgia for millennials, add in the queen of the young millennial spirit herself and the kid from glee and you've got a recipe tailored to 30 somethings, entirely alone and nothing else to do. Yes of course, gays of all ages will tune in but only the 80s born will not question the wholly ridiculous premise and goings on of this film...I think everyone involved fully knows this is just an excuse to see Lindsay do something fun and not seriously be aiming for the moon, it took all pressure off, and why not make it a holiday grab at the same time...it's everything you want from a Lohan-Christmas-romcom-millennial-esque even right down to the Ali Lohan cameo.

Disappointing
rubycox-4704612 November 2022
This film was hard to watch and honestly just boring. It had no depth or meaning and the acting was poor. I would not recommend this film to anyone it is a complete waste of time watching it. Although, I do like Linsey Lohan but felt her acting has really gone down hill. I was excited to watch yet another Christmas film in my list but was very dissatisfied with the storyline, I felt it didn't all work together. It was very cheesy and cringy which occasionally can be entertaining but in this case ruined the film. It was also very predictable and had a rather simple storyline which did not interest me at all.

So so so bad
sharnelperera23 November 2022
Wow. Just, wow. While I'm happy that Lindsay Lohan is doing well and seems to be making a comeback, this movie was SO BAD. The storyline is predictable, but that's ok, it's a standard Christmas romcom so I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking. It's the acting that is just shockingly bad. It's laughable at certain points, e.g. The skiing scenes where they very clearly used a green screen and it looks about as real as an 80's monster movie. It seems like Lohan has a very long way to go in getting her acting chops back in shape, and I look forward to that happening for her. So maybe we should expect to see some shockers in her journey towards this. This movie is a prime example. Only worth watching in order to lend Lohan some support. Aside from that, it's just really, really cringeworthy.

People are being too harsh
miklcats10 November 2022
I think people are being a bit to harsh on this. Sometimes you have to remember that not all films are set out to be academy award winning powerful blockbusters. Its a campy netflix Christmas film set for people who just want a bit of light hearted entertainment and some Christmas spirit. If you like family fun Christmas movies then you will certainly enjoy this and if you are just a fan of Lindsay Lohan im sure you will enjoy too. Dont get me wrong the plot is pretty generic but as i said before its not a film thats truly meant to be taken with full seriousness so it didnt bother me. It served its purpose to be family friendly fun.

It has to be said...
PrinceCharmingHere11 November 2022
Bless Lindsay Lohah's heart, but the dear isn't a good actress. She's had moments of goodness in her career, but it's like she's not even trying to develop her craft (whatever craft that is). She hasn't gotten better at acting in the last 20 years. The story of this movie is a been there done that trope. Very low effort stuff. If you enjoy this movie, you have incredibly low standards. The editing of the movie is a hilarious hack job. The people who made this movie simply didn't care, and it shows. Just another sad Netflix offering tied to a well know celebrity. Lindsay deserves more, but it seems she doesn't care to improve or do something worthwhile, just to cash in.

Bad
alex54ruiz13 November 2022
The love interest is one of the worst actors I've ever seen. Wondering which love interest? You pick. They're both just awful.

Lohan is bad. We all want her to make a comeback but it's just not gonna happen. She's lost it. She's a bad actress. Period. It's over.

The only thing good about this movie was how adorable the daughter was. She seemed to be the only one understanding how fun this movie should be.

The pacing and editing were gargantually terrible, even for bad/good Christmas movies.

Also, can't escape the Overboard/Frozen parallels. Every single cliché exists in this movie, and it's not for the better.

This movie is crappy. My wife and I put up our Christmas decorations up, made hot toddies, and put on our first Xmas movie with Falling For Christmas... it was a gigantic disappointment. Gotta wash it down with some Scrooged.

Call this movie a casserole...
ivantheeditor14 November 2022
... because it is as cheesy as they get. This was incredibly predictable from literally the first shot. If you're looking for an original storyline, this is not it. You pretty much know exactly what's going to happen just from the trailer. However, seeing Lindsay Lohan acting again and being happy is a Christmas miracle in and of itself. And Chord Overstreet is looking adorably handsome in this. On top of it, their chemistry is pretty good too. And even though this was brutally cheesy and predicatble it somehow managed to get me to tear up a little.. twice!! So yeah... i probably wont even remember watching this a few days from now it was still a good time. And honestly, I think Lindsey deserves a second chance at her career. I hope it takes off again and she's able to get bigger and better roles in the future. But this was definitely a cute little comeback.

People are not being too harsh with the bad reviews
NicholasMCG21 November 2022
The reason for so many bad reviews is because this movie is shockingly bad from start to finish. I watched the entire thing because it would be unfair to review something otherwise. I appreciate the crew on this because that is always a hard job from the camera Dept to the Art Dept hair and makeup etc. But my god the writing is like a computer generated script with no surprises and nothing new, so bland and boring. The directing, well, pretty sure a robot directed this because it's just so bad. It's like the kind of movie used in a real movie to be joked about if that makes sense. The acting? This is not a comeback for you know who, her 10 year old self would wonder where her acting talent went. It was not here.

Just so bad
zerner9111 November 2022
I usually love rom-coms and Christmas movies but this movie is so so bad. And not even that bad that it becames good.

Every person involved in this, from the writers to the actors, decided to give us nothing and they did.

The color correction is very telenovela, and it really sets up the tone of the entire thing. All the actors give us their worst performance in their careers. Which at this point must be a problem in how they were directed, because it requires a great effort to have such an underwhelming ensemble of performances.

In their defense the dialogs are so poorly written that not even Maryl Streep could have save this.

It's a sweet funny romantic rom-com holiday movie
peacepinshappiness-690304 December 2022
Don't listen to the negative humbug reviews out here on this one! I nearly skipped watching this movie due to only 5 stars & too many negative reviews; however, I'm glad I watched it as it turned out to be a very sweet, funny, and happy Christmas movie! I thought the cast was good, especially Lindsay Lohan, the male lead, the little girl, and Jack Wagner (remember Frisco from General Hospital? He's still cute!) I enjoyed the story, the Christmas decorations, music & holiday clothing. It was just fun to watch and I felt happy when the movie was over. It even has funny bloopers during the credits. I hope we get a part 2 next year with the same cast. It was just so good to see Lindsay in a good movie and I hope she continues to make family friendly rom-coms. Merry Christmas!

made me feel good
juliacher198710 November 2022
This movie made me feel good, And thats all I wanted really.

Felt like a typical christmas movie, joy, fun, love and family.

Totally reminded me of the movie Overboard mashed with 17 Again (because of the "spirit guide" I guess lol).

Don't watch it expecting some grandiose movie, it is a little, cute, cozy and heart warming movie that will simply make you feel good.

If you are the sarcastic type of person, and you don't like kitsch and all kinds of christmas movie cliches, don't waste you time.

I gave it a 9 because it did what I wanted it to do. Made me smile and tear up a bit.

Hope you enjoy it too :)

Very vanilla, yet warm and likeable
rogerflores-4161115 November 2022
Of course this is a formulaic Christmas movie. Its hot chocolate on a snowy day inside a small ski-resort community. Its not reinventing the wheel. Lohan is very likeable and charming and a little silly, which puts her back in her acting wheelhouse. For all the trolls who see Lohan on the marquee and are chiming in with a bevy of low-ratings, understand this isn't for you if you're not into these kind of movies so please stop. Trolls not wanted here.

The featured review I saw was very critical of everything from the script to the acting and I'm just like: this isn't a Tarantino movie-- r-e-l-a-x. It was warm comfort food for people who want that.

Even with Lindsay, it's an absolute abomination.
FONYMAHONEY12 November 2022
Lindsay is great. Still great. It's wonderful to see her back and hopefully this is the start of her McConaissance.

That's the only take away from this pile of aimless illogical tripe. There's escapism, there's being formulaic - and then there's just plain bad film making. This only succeeds on the final count.

Terrible Christmas films are more than ten a penny these days, and obviously there's a huge audience for it and evidently, it isn't me. But COME ON! I honestly didn't think Netflix could drop a lower quality festive piece than Christmas on the Square.

Then they released this. Netflix ought to offer financial incentives for people who have to suffer this.

Awful acting, terrible plot with no flow
jeremyinc14 November 2022
The only positive thing about the movie is some of the scenery. Other than that, Lindsay Lohan's acting is terrible, she shows no actual emotion throughout the movie and her love interest is like a dead corpse walking. The actors are mostly all annoying to watch and they all lack true emotions, they seem like robots forced to smile in their scenes against their will.

I really don't understand how any of these other reviews say anything positive about the cast or the storyline. The depth of emotion is surface level and the plot line is completely boring with nothing that actually engages you. This could've been so much better. I'd rather stare at a white wall for 1.5 hrs.

Enjoyable to watch
Kingslaay9 December 2022
If you want an easy to watch and light hearted film for the Christmas season, then Falling for Christmas should fit the bill. Lindsay Lohan carries this film really well with a solid performance. Her character, the damsel in distress, is quite easy to warm to from start to finish. She was someone searching for a bit more in life. A life of privilege with a plastic fiancé and made up job title as the heiress of a hotel chain was not fulfilling. She finally found it at the North Star Lodge through the magic of Christmas. Normally I wouldn't rate such a film so high but the holiday setting and Christmas time really gives it a boost and makes it jolly and enjoyable to watch.

Review: Depends on you
rehmankhilji12 November 2022
Well the movie, certainly will depend upon you, as how you want to see it. There are so many people, who especially during the holidays, will watch these, regardless of the script, story or performances.

Then there are those who will judge the movie just like any another.

Thirdly, are those, who grew up watching Lindsay Lohan movies, like myself and watching her back on the screen after so many years, having a nostaligic feelings, regardless how the movie was.

So if you are the kind of option No. 1 or 3, you will like this movie and you will be lucky having a light movie to watch, with family, having the holidays experience and thats it.

The No. 2 kind will find everything wrong about this movie. Repeated script, same predictable story, nothing new to offer and Lindsay Lohan looking like a mother more of her co actors.

Make your choice and watch the movie accordingly.

Overstreet proves somethings are better with age
laceypletcher12 November 2022
Loved to see Lohan back. I laughed out loud multiple times, maybe I was in the mood to laugh, but there are just some silly slap stick moments that got me. This is a campy Netflix Christmas rom com. Don't set your sights too high and just enjoy the over the top jokes and Lohan doing what she really does best- goofball physical comedy and acting like a prissy rich person.

But the kicker here is Overstreet - of course I grew up watching glee and he was cute but he's throwing out serious dashing and swoon worthy leading man vibes now now over the teen heartthrob years.

Glad I watched on a cold and rainy afternoon and it brought my spirits up. Merry Christmas!

Embarrassing
ericasantoni13 November 2022
I felt embarrassed that I was watching this movie. I love Lindsey Lohan but this movie is everything that I hate about people right now. Acting like a white privileged girl who never had to work a day in her life that's a social media influencer gets everything and then goes to a small town that's struggling. I think we're doing a disservice to this country by entertaining these concepts. We should stop acting like these are the normal things that are really going on when our entire country is struggling financially except for the 1% and then we watch the main idea lies them like they're important.

Feel good movie
StuDeb214 November 2022
I'm a sucker for Christmas movies. I love a movie where I can relax and know nothing awful is going to happen like in a lot of films. This was a lovely film. It had a few comedy moments. It's really good to see Lindsay Lohan back in great form. Lots of colourful Christmas jumpers and a beautiful Christmassy town. A Santa Clause who really looked the part. I'm putting this with all my other Christmas movies to watch this time of year. Watching it sitting on the sofa with my Baileys, Christmas tree and presents all wrapped. This movie is just great for getting in the seasonal mood. And anyone saying it's cheesy. Cheese is just what we need at Christmas.
