Not bad, enjoyable but flawed.
greatballsofmovies24 October 2021
I actually enjoyed this. Its cheap, but once you get past some of the flaws in the filming you have something pretty entertaining here. I love noir movies so I could see what they went for.

The start is pretty slow but from the moment they got to the school I found the pace picked up. Loved the woman playing Victoria and the guy playing her husband.

Bit long, could be cut down, but enjoyable if you can get past the way it was made.

This is NOT a film, it is a PLAY
chriskrischris25 October 2021
For the theatre groups first time filming anything, especially on mobile phones, i think they did a fine job.

I was not going to write a review but it appears that some people on here are expecting a 10 million pound film when this is clearly a play done on a cheap budget under tough circumstances. Some of these reviews just seem like bullying or people going in not reading the description.

Also, a poster has said they found this title on a worst films of 2021 list. That list also has Bond, Venom, Shang - Chi and Army of the Dead on it, it is hardly a worst of list. Also, i repeat, this is clearly not a FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have people watched this, it is very clear to see it is a play?

If you do not like slow burn noir style films or theatre, then this will not be for you. I watched this with my wife, she enjoyed it more than me, but i could appreciate what this group did. It could benefit from losing 30 minutes in my opinion, but opinions are like

Well, you know the rest.

A very interesting idea, if not always successful
spideyvsspidey28 October 2021
Seeing the negative reviews on here seriously put me off watching this, luckily i have a Prime Account so it was free for me to watch and i am glad i did.

Firstly i thought this would be film, it's not, it is a play filmed on a stage. I loved how it mixed plays and film together, but i can see why some would be confused if they only watch the beginning.

The cast did great, i enjoyed the lead woman and her boyfriend the best. Not sure we needed so much of the parents, some of these moments dragged, I could have also done without the detective narrating so much (nothing against the actor).

The show is indeed shot on phones but the big deal people are making about that on here is is silly. Some moments are weaker than others in terms of filming, but most worked fine. I don't think this group will win awards for filmmaking, but i don't think that is the aim here.

I enjoyed it, if you enjoy the genre of Film Noir or stage shows, this has a lot to love, even if it could do with losing twenty to thirty minutes.

PS It is also very clear that the last few one 1 star reviews on here are written by the same person, you can tell by their overuse of !

Is this a joke?
imdbi-degaite21 October 2021
If you can stand to watch the entire trailer for NOIR, this may be the movie for you. It would be incredulous if you think this is worth anyone's time.

I would normally refuse to write a review for a movie that deserves negative stars, but this may save you from a wasted evening. You're welcome or your welcome to suffer)...

These other glowing reviews are clearly from those involved with making this sludge.

Even as a play that's been filmed it's bad
thesheeparethrowing26 October 2021
Sorry but this is a disaster, this could be a disaster artist 2. I'd love meet writer!

Maybe spend more time on the scripts than you do creating fake profiles to get this disasters star rating up on here! I'd put cash on the last few positive reviews being penned by the same person!

Good Review or Bad, Watch for Yourself
jc-904-38954424 December 2021
#SupportIndependentFilms. Making a film is a team effort and a serious challenge. Anyone working in the Industry can tell you that. Pick out anyone in the cast and crew (in any Film) and you will be able to see their lineage of growth in this industry. I've never read reviews before and now I only see Trolls bashing indie films for no good reason. Good Review or Bad, Watch the film for yourself.

Head scratch
vwmoyorliver28 October 2021
The disclaimer says it had no budget, was shot on phones and has issues with sound and visual. The reviews on here are begging ppl to take this into account , that it's not film its a theatre show recorded!

Yet they still ask for £8 to watch it!!! No much business sense. They mustnt have yet reached that part of the curriculum on their film course. Students!

Not good, don't bother!
cassidyjohn-7409523 October 2021
I got half way through.... Awful and predictable writing!

Acting was average The cinematography was GCSE level And the sound........ embarrassing that the producers would even think about charging for this.

Pay NO ATTENTION to any rave reviews!

Complete bore fest
burtburtburtburt26 October 2021
I'm not sorry, this takes forever to get to any type of exciting part, and when you get there it isn't so exciting! Nothing happens!

The detective guy, did he need be in-between every scene. Either take him out or take the others out as they're both repeating each other.

Refused to watch more than a hour, be warned.

surprisingly good !
wqhwrfj22 October 2021
I almost didn't watch this after reading the first couple of reviews but this is my favourite genre, which i think if you don't understand this genre then you won't understand the film, the opening scene was a bit weak, but i'm glad i persevered i for one thoroughly enjoyed it, it clearly stated at the start that it was shot on mobile phones in a pandemic etc so i wasn't expecting much, but ....... it captured everything that is beautiful about that era, the cast were fabulous, stand out for me was emma morgan who plays veronica, she was captivating, the actor who played jimmy i thought was good but didn't work for me as a 16yr old which was a shame as not his fault, overall apart from the odd lighting and sound problems i thoroughly enjoyed it ...

What is going on with these reviews.
kitkatkat-4001324 October 2021
The tens on here are too high, it does not deserve 10s. However, the 1 stars? That's a little baffling.

Yes it's shot on phones by people who do not appear to have filmed much before but it explains that at the begining. It is also not a film, this is a stage play, im not sure why people are calling it a film?

I enjoyed it, it's a bit slow at times but the rest of the time it's lots of fun. The performances are very 'stage like' but I feel like that is the point coz its like an old movie or TV show.

Yes it has a few sound issues and some moments are a bit rough in terms of filming but if you enjoy plays I think you will enjoy this. It is not filmed as well as some shows, but one star reviews are silly.

I enjoyed it.
shelleycooper21 October 2021
A full length film, filmed in the middle of a pandemic with a limited budget and on mobile phones. I don't see many others pulling of what Vertigo Productions did. I watched the whole thing, unlike others, and I'm glad I did.

A strange mix of theatre and classic old movies
johnmalone-6073625 October 2021
Caught this on Prime, did not know what to make of it at first.

The opening screen garb says it had no budget, shot only on phones and this seemed to be done because of covid closing down their theatre

This is NOT a film, it's a filmed recording of a show, something i think is quite admirable. The cast are good and seem to be having fun playing up their roles with Emma Morgan as Mrs Smart as a stand out. The writing felt very of its time and i enjoyed the use of video projections as locations.

To say it was filmed on phones by amateurs, i think they have done a nice job. It has some sound issues and it's quite long, but other than a few scenes i would have cut (some of the dad scenes seemed a bit repetitive) i had a lot of fun. I am a fan of theatre and musicals , and i think this is strictly for fans of that art form. If you are looking for a film, you will be disappointed.

I don't know if somebody hates a cast member or the creators or film studio, but please ignore the 1 stars, it does not deserve that at all, as long as you know what it is going in to it, that it is a play shot on phones, then i think you will find a lot to enjoy.

Unbelievably well done
RileyReviewsUK5 June 2021
This was filmed in a warehouse using only mobile phones!

The cast are superb, with special mentions to Steve Connelly and Emma Morgan.

You are transported back to a bygone era with this film/play hybrid.

The direction is well handled and it's superbly edited. The sound is a little lacking in places, but that can be forgiven as the pluses outweigh the very minor minuses.

To complete this, under covid restrictions was a miracle of the will of Vertigo productions.

A filmed play homage to Film Noir
jattewel25 October 2021
The people leaving negative reviews here clearly didn't read the message at the beginning telling us this is a film of a performance by a theatre company who couldn't perform to a live audience due to covid.

Bearing this in mind, and judging it as a play, it was excellent. Allow yourself a few minutes to get into it and after that it gets better and better including the narrator, he seems very hammy at first but you grow to love him.

Amazing
thejamhome25 October 2021
It was really cleverly done with the black and white, but only the colour red showing through. The storyline was very engaging and it was really interesting to watch! The characters were well thought out and very realistic. I really enjoyed it and it was worth watching.

Superbly done!
lmw-1246026 October 2021
This is a superb watch! I was immediately transported to a theatre. The set snd characters were brilliant, especially Emma Morgan. It was cleverly shot/edited to show only the colour red, a metaphor for danger! Veronica is certainly dangerous with a femme fatale vibe. The plot is clever with a few twists that I didn't expect. Craig wrote this script brilliantly!! The 2hrs 30 mins just flew by! Well done Vertigo and all concerned. Amazing talent on and off the screen!
