Calling this movie strange and unusual would be just the start since, upon getting further into it, one can’t help but think that this is a good idea that was taken a little too slowly to be insanely scary and had an ending that was kind of predictable but also interesting at the same time. The legacy of the late Ivan Reitman lives on with “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (Sony/$5.99) for which he was the sole producer, repeated at #1 on all VOD charts this week. Its recent reduced price sustained a successful multi-platform run ($200 million theatrical worldwide) for a $75 million production.
The film was directed by his son and reflects a return to box office form for both. Reitman père had more than 20 projects in varying stages of development. “Afterlife” showed he remained vital in comedy, a genre that gets short shrift in theaters today.
VOD charts showed little change this week, including any impact from last Tuesday’s Oscar nominations. “Dune” (Warner Bros./$5.99) rose from last week, taking two #2 slots and placing on all three. The only other films among the top contenders to appear are “King Richard” (Warner Bros./$19.99), which is #7 at Vudu, and “Belfast” (Focus/$19.99), #10 at iTunes.

It’s cold outside in the Northern Hemisphere. Thankfully, the magic of streaming means you’ll never have to go outside again! Netflix’s list of new releases for February 2022 is full of original titles that could make a quick month go by even quicker.
The biggest Netflix original series in February is undoubtedly Vikings: Valhalla. This Vikings spinoff premieres Feb. 25 takes a time jump to bring our Nordic friends into conflict with Western Europe and a burgeoning Christian movement. February brings a Kanye West documentary, masked monsters and much, much more to Netflix. Below we’ve compiled a complete list of what’s new on Netflix in February 2022, and it includes the Kanye West documentary trilogy “jeen-yuhs,” which will roll out one part each week for three weeks starting on Feb. 16.
