How Shumin (played by Ong Ai Leng) spoke to her parents Uncle Kopi (played by Liang Tian) and Auntie Kopi (played by He Bing) in a mixture of Mandarin and English, and the same with her maid later at the hospital, it is not uncommon to hear that from a Singaporean, but more likely in an informal setting.
Shumin (played by Ong Ai Leng), the daughter of Uncle Kopi (played by Liang Tian) and Auntie Kopi (played by He Bing) mentioned CPF at one time, given she had told her parents that she had found a new flat for them and her father was worried no bank will loan them money due to their age. Shumin was referring to the Central Provident Fund, the savings and pension plan for working Singaporeans and permanent residents which is used for retirement, healthcare, housing needs. Thus what Shumin mentioned to her parents in terms of the financing of the new flat she bought for them.
Nancy (played by Chen Liping) reminded her daughter Xiuming (played by Fiona Xie) to contact the HDB on the case of the lifts. In short, HDB stands for the Housing and Development Board, the national public housing authority of Singapore.
Uncle Kopi (played by Liang Tian) had gone to Mr. Fang (played by Zhang Wei) for a tuition request for his adult daughter Shumin (who was preparing for her company's venture into the China market), and there was a reason why Mr. Fang was confused initially when Uncle Kopi mentioned Lao Fu Zi when Mr. Fang corrected him that it is Laozi. Lao Fu Zi is actually a fictional character from the Master Q comic series. Laozi is the reputed author of Tao Te Ching, and the founder of Taoism.
