In the beginning
hiramthreets14 February 2024
This movie was ok, are Airbnbs this much trouble? If so, count me out, the acting was fine, I fell in love with the old couple. The wife Liz was hilariois to me, lol. Her character was way off in a kooky type of way,, she seemed to enjoy her screen time, playing her role to a Tee. Barbarians the movie was about an airbnb as well, so was the new Netflix Film with Julia Roberts called Leave the world behind, same premise didferent scenario though. I would leave immediately if I showed up and someone was occupying the place I rented out. The characters in these types of movies makes all the wrong decisions.

Don't waste any money on this failed wannabe horror flick!
johannes2000-118 October 2023
Of the 8 reviews until now, there are 4 with a raving score of 10. I hardly can believe that they watched the same movie as I did. In my opinion this is a totally failed wannabe thriller-horror flick, that I only sat through because I (stupidly) paid 5 euro to stream it.

Maybe the premise has some potential (two couples have booked an isolated cottage in the desert, only to find that there's already a weird older couple in the house that has no intention whatsoever to make way, but instead starts to behave more and more creepy), but out of some misguided arty whim the director decided to mix up the timelines of the individual couples arriving at the house, as well as that of the police officers that later arrive. This makes the already flimsy story completely chaotic and a tiresome watch.

Add to this that all characters (except the female officer) are extremely unsympathetic and even unpleasant to look at, that the dialogues are cringing, that the setting is limited to the uninspiring interior of the cheap looking cottage, and that the acting of the whole cast is below every reasonable par. Gradually the story derails into some kind of bloody grand guignol theater, but unfortunately without the needed tongue-in-cheekness that maybe could have saved this ill-fated project. Please don't waste money on this!

This is awful!!
mroth7310 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So when we watched this it had an imdb rating of 8.7 by 52 votes. We thought those are most likely by friends from the people who made it but we gave it a shot anyway.

And we were so right. Trailer looks good and the basic story is okay. The actors are actually quite good but the writing and directing is absolutely atrocious!!

Let's give some small spoilers here and that this actually the biggest issue the film has: the couple that occupies the house is EXTREMELY creepy from the very beginning. No sane person, not even your typical instagram queen with the obligatory 2.7 brain cells would be so incredibly stupid to stay!!! And it wasn't even just one couple that stayed. BOTH of them did!!!

This actually could have been an amazing little indy but instead you gave us this. Wish I could get my 7 bucks back.

Deserves a ZERO
shernank-195239 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Do not listen to any review claiming this is even watchable. I'm so disgusted I paid $6.99 and what a waste of time. Terrible casting, zero acting abilities, flip flopping from each "point of view" as someone else stated doesn't help the plot development.

And if you're going to use profanity at least put some character in it as this cast just lets it roll off their tongues. Any actors who were paid to be in this should consider themselves well rewarded for doing nothing. There was an attempt to glean empathy from the viewing audience with the cancer card but it's brief. I'm shocked to see such a weak and pathetic storyline receive several rave reviews. After about the first 15 minutes I was under the impression it was possible an attempt at dromedy, ya know drama and comedy but it's not.

You will if you dare watch, get a chuckle out of the husband and wife small town cops and their attempt at spewing vile for one another and their analysis of the crime scenes. On the count of 3, let's all hurl, forgedddabout the $7 and move on to a decent, well scripted and a movie with an actual storyline.

Nonsensical in the worst way
sidneyhummel10 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film looks promising-it had a 9.0 on imdb at the time my friend and I decided to watch it- but quickly dissolves into unbelievable nonsense when characters, whose stories are told in a shuffled, nonlinear order, continue to stay in this rental with the old couple long after a person with any common sense would have left. Honestly, I don't think they would have even set foot in the rental, and there was nothing redeeming about the old couple that justifies both couples staying when something is obviously off. All this, especially the showing of all the characters dead not even halfway thru the film, made me lose interest. About 1/3 of the way in I was just watching because my friend picked it. The ending is also ridiculous, with the old couple conveniently surviving the same injuries that two younger characters died from. Then the cops, who were the most entertaining storyline, get killed too. No justice, and the surviving character is the murderous old man who was the stiffest and least engaging actor of the bunch. Then the film ends with a tease for a prequel... absolutely will not watch.

This is so so boring with too many stupid characters
tanrachel-3637520 October 2023
I'm not sure what's the point of this movie. The storyline is non existence, the characters inside are stupid af. It's just boring going through the motion and there's no sense whatsoever. None of the characters, despite being younger and stronger, has any common sense or self preservation technics. Instead they behave like stupid lambs waiting to be slaughtered without a fight. This movie is a waste of time🙄 I would advise ppl to have extremely low expectations or not to watch this movie at all. I don't even have enough words to post a review of this movie because the movie literally has no plot and it's really stupid haha.

8 for 8 found dead
cealdana-8525425 December 2023
One star for each found dead. But really solid movie. Did not feel like a normal horror movie, really well written. The intricate plot follows the four couples through the dramatic events. Tim and Rosanne bring their A game and then some. The practical locations were excellently chosen, there was a scene that was in a home of a dog painting. The dog looks like a very cute puppy. I wonder if it was a painting of someone's actual dog. Overall really liked the movie. Hope there is a part two to further the story and explain how some of the people got in that situation. I am also excited to see another story from the writer.

a rollercoaster of a thriller
info-9752816 August 2023
Imagine this: two couples seeking a peaceful desert escape, but what they find is anything but tranquil. As the story unfolds from four different perspectives, the tension skyrockets. The film masterfully weaves together suspense, fear, and a touch of the unexpected, keeping you at the edge of your seat.

The setting plays a crucial role, enhancing the eerie atmosphere as the characters grapple with the realization that their Airbnb hideaway isn't as deserted as they thought. And when the night turns long and bloody, you'll find yourself immersed in a journey of survival. The director brilliantly navigates between the viewpoints, leaving you guessing and second-guessing throughout.

In terms of visuals, the cinematography captures the vastness of the desert while also delving into the intimate terror within the confined space of the Airbnb. The camera work accentuates the growing unease, making you feel as if you're right there with the characters, trying to piece together the puzzle of the night's events.

"8 Found Dead" isn't just another horror flick - it's a psychological thriller that plays with your mind and keeps you hooked. If you're into suspense, unexpected twists, and a dash of gore, this one's definitely worth checking out. It's a wild ride that'll leave you talking about it long after the screen goes dark. Grab some popcorn and brace yourself for a gripping cinematic experience! 🍿🌵🔪

Nope
sassistpeters18 May 2024
8 ways this film was terrible 1 bad acting 2 bad story line 3 bad make up 4 so disjointed there was no flow 5 no history to why bad guys are bad guys 6 police small story was pointless 7 the link between characters was pretty much non existing 8 full time line so out of whack you'd swear it was meant to be different days.

Honestly this film was a waste of time when it could have been a decent cabin in the woods type of film (well desert) but the disjointed making of the film really put me off. I had no idea what time of day it was meant to be. The police presents was not needed and the fact that they were going through a divorce and the husband was a borderline alcoholic was unnecessary. The touch on drugs was unnecessary. The fact that the second couple female caught on about a expensive bottle of whisky was not brought to light. Such a messy badly execution of a movie.

Strong storytelling / Unique Thriller
catherinekaine11 August 2023
The entirety of this film felt so unique in the best way possible. Relatable characters, and relationships. Fun introduction with a great hook. Creepy, yet even the villains, had full back stories that made you feel for them. The entire story was interesting throughout and it left you wanting more. Great actors, great writing, great directing, great editing, and visually stimulating. This entire movie was very well cast.

It had the perfect amount of sexiness, gore, and the pacing was perfect. Surprisingly easy to watch while still keeping you on your toes. Every character had their moment that made the audience truly care about them. Bravo.

8FD brings new life to the Slasher Genre!!!
chadjwilson19 August 2023
Two distinctly American artforms in my mind are jazz and slasher films. And I for one have hoped that someone, anyone, would figure out a way to breathe new life into the often-predictable slasher genre. In 8 Found Dead they did just that. Not since Scream has there been a film that has more fun with the tropes and brings so many new and memorable characters into the fray. Travis Greene's direction of Jonathan Buchanan's script is spot on in this cleverly developed story about friends meeting up in the desert for a fun-filled weekend only for that setup to be thrown in the blender. And what is poured out is a delicious blend of meaty dialog, big scares, and thirst for more. Fortunately, this story has legs and we can expect many more tales to come.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat
Joedalo926 September 2023
What a fun and scary ride. Didn't know what to expect from 8 Found Dead but it not only delivered on keeping me on the edge of my seat the whole time, I found my self thinking about the movie days afterward. Rarely does a movie make me want to see not only how it all began, but where goes from the ending. Excited to see more films from writer Jonathon Buchanan and director Travis Greene. They made such great story telling team and seem to compliment each others work with their own. Green seem to have shot it to make you almost feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic even though it was in a dessert. This made the experience even more intense and actually over all more enjoyable. I also liked that, though there is violence, I never felt it it was used gratuitously or for shock value, which is often the case in movies of this genre. The actors were all very talented and the older couple couldn't have been any creepier. Definitely made me wonder about ever renting a Air BnB in the future. Thanks for a great time.

fun watch!
Byron1923 August 2023
This was a fun watch, totally worth if you're into horror movies or movies about murdering. Has everything you want from the genre, so go see it!

What I found fun is they they tell you upfront there will be 8 victims, but as the punch cards get punched, there is still a bit of a guessing game. A bit of life or death musical chairs, perhaps.

Inspired cinematography for an indie horror as well, much appreciated.

I enjoyed watching this movie and really do really think you will also really enjoy watching this movie, where ever you may find it. Please add it to your horror watch lists and enjoy.

more then expected
accsl-16 November 2023
I'm not rating this against Casablanca so don't @ me!

It's a low budget horror movie, I've seen tons of them you probably have also. The fact is this movie was way better then I expected it to be. It has that sly, sneaky, cleverness that allowed it to transcend my genre and budget expectations. That inspired bit of imagination in the script, the spark of scenery-chewing joy from the cast, surprisingly well done story beats; if you watch a lot of movies you know capturing any of those things is rare, and this one gets all three.

The title ends up feeling almost ironic as the filmmakers seem much less interested in the "found dead", then they are focused on the fun-loving living.

Believe it won at Screamfest '22
bigquiche6 November 2023
Wasn't able to check it out at Screamfest, but I believe it won the award for best screenplay as well as best director.

However, I finally got to see it when it went to VOD. I enjoyed the watch. I think some viewers rate all films equally, low-budget indie films with limited takes, locations, shooting days, cast constraints, and footage, the same as huge-budget films that spend more money on their lunch catering than indies like this get to spend on every element combined. But to each their own.

I enjoyed several of the performances, and for me, the movie was more suspenseful than horror, as it was a lot of figuring out who the 8 found dead would be at the end and the reveal.
