I didn't want the episode to end

First time in the series I didn't want the episode to end. Great screenplay, great CGI & surely an adequate budget unlike previous episodes. Bryce Dallas Howard confirms she's the best director of Mando/Boba. That canyon scene brought me back to little Anakin's race:)

Awesome episode, but...
aarongnr26 January 2022
It should've been an episode of the Mandalorian. I'm sure it has it's place in the story of this show, but as a standalone this show doesn't work at all any more. And it's really telling that the best episode by a mile is an episode of the Mandalorian instead of Boba Fett.

10 for the episode, but didn't change anything about how I feel about The Book of Boba Fett.

Can't Wait for season 3 for The Mandalorian
moviesfilmsreviewsinc27 January 2022
Finally, The Book of Boba Fett gets good...by becoming a different show entirely. You could watch this episode completely independently, as a bridge between season two of The Mandalorian and the upcoming season three. The shift shines an even bigger light on Boba's lack of an arc within his own show, but it's hard to complain when Bryce Dallas Howard's direction on the usual Jon Favreau script brings so much entertainment. Unlike Boba Fett, Din Djarin doesn't want or have the ability to shift from bounty hunting to a more managerial position. "Return of the Mandalorian" opens with exactly what it says on the tin as Din strides into a slaughterhouse to collect a bounty. He hasn't been back home to the covert since giving baby Grogu to Luke Skywalker, and is feeling the baby's loss while learning how to use the legendary Darksaber. He does find his way home, to a very cool hiding spot on the vacuum-facing edge of a ring-like space station called Glavis. After defending the Darksaber against Paz Vizsla's claim, he ends up leaving the covert in search of a spiritual rebirth that will let him rejoin the clan for good. Because he showed his face to an outsider back in season two, he has to go for a cleansing bath in ritual caves beneath Mandalore - the same area the Imperials destroyed. Another way to approach the nostalgia issue is whether the episode fits into the show's larger arc. As essentially a vignette from The Mandalorian stuffed into The Book of Boba Fett, it doesn't. A common critique for the less-compelling parts of a franchise are that they feel "inessential." Technically, this episode is. Season three of The Mandalorian will probably show Din with his new ship and Grogu's armor, and the time skip alone will be enough explanation for them. It's an odd choice, to say the least, to fill a show that already doesn't do enough groundwork with its characters with different characters entirely. But ultimately the episode was too good to care about all that. As someone who watches every week, I can't complain about an episode that made me gasp, laugh, and yearn for these characters.

Best episode has zero Boba Fett
hnt_dnl27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As someone who finds the Mandalorian series flawed and overrated, one thing that it NEVER was to me was boring. And therein lies the problem with The Book of Boba Fett. Along with all the flaws and bad writing, it's simply a boring series. There's no hook like Baby Yoda. And for as overrated as I think that Mando himself is, the fact is that he looks much better in his armor than Boba does in his. Hell, Mando's armor looks much better, period! A huge problem I'm having with Boba is his dialogue. It's vague, weird, and forgettable. He's all about peace and love, yet he's supposed to be a crime lord. It doesn't make sense. He's not cunning or smart or diabolical the way you'd think a mob boss would be. He doesn't demand respect. He's too nice. His new attitude doesn't mesh with his character's new stature. Conversely, the writing for the Mandalorian has always been simple. Even when he was defending Baby Yoda/Grogu, he also didn't mess around with anyone. He is unrelenting and to the point. Grogu was the only thing that he protected, but otherwise he is stalwart in his beliefs and doesn't let anyone push him around. Mando feels tough whereas Boba feels weak.

This episode is a perfect example of why The Mandalorian succeeds where Boba Fett fails. It starts off with Mando taking care of business in a bounty and features a fight scene that is better than any previous episode this season. Then it also has this beautiful looking Halo city in space. Also, it brings back two of the Mandalorian series best characters in The Armorer and Peli Motto. The scenes between Mando and these 2 ladies were well-written and crisp and set against beautiful cinematography. Why is the dialogue so much more entertaining and easier to follow in a non-Boba episode? Why does the set design look so much better in this episode that doesn't feature Boba, yet his first 4 episodes looked so cheap? And the bulk of this episode took place on Tattooine, which is the permanent setting for the series. Why does Tattooine look so much cooler with Mando in it than Boba? The pinnacle of the episode for me was Mando test piloting the Naboo fighter jet and racing through the canyons of Tattooine as a callback to The Phantom Menace, still to this day the best Star Wars prequel, in my opinion. Everything about this episode was just plain cool. The first 4 episodes collectively are not even half as good as Chapter 5. The show is called Boba Fett, not The Mandalorian, yet this episode proves that we should be getting Season 3 of The Mandalorian right now instead of whatever this Boba Fett show is supposed to be about.

Best episode of the season!
Dannyboi9426 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Chapter 5 is the best episode of Boba Fett so far, and that is mainly because of ... you guessed it by the title, the Mandalorian. Din makes his return in glorious fashion by taking out some pig looking dudes. Seeing him use the Darksaber was one of the best things I've seen from Star Wars. Seeing this guy made me miss the Mandalorian TV show more than ever, and just by him appearing in this show, is proof that this guy is going to become more legendary than even Boba himself.

This episode is riddled with previous Star Wars content. Back to Tatooine, seeing the same place young Anakin raced through in Ep1 was goosepump good. And getting to see a BD droid in live action! We have only seen those in Jedi Fallen Order, and with that showing up, surely that means we will get Cal in a future project? We can hope.

Directed by Bryce Howard, you can tell she has picked up her father's skill at directing, because she does a brilliant job at this episode.

We also got to see new aliens, and a stunning new location that reminded me of the Citadel from Mass Effect. I hope we get to visit this place again - which I think is highly likely, since it houses some major minor characters.

Chapter 5 - The Return of the Mandalorian, is a brilliant episode, filled with ear to ear smiling, stunning visuals, cameos, directing and of course, the return of Din, and judging by the final words of this episode, we are going to see Grogu next episode, and maybe even Luke again! Ahhh!

Sorry, couldn't hide my excitement. This is what I was looking for coming into the Book of Boba Fett, and I'm glad they decided to put this episode in. This will surely keep the people who aren't overly fond of this series so far, interested.

10/10.

Great Episode - Wrong Show

Warning: Spoilers
Felt like The Mandalorian S3E1.

Had a lot fun watching this and maybe we have something like a hint about the plot of season 3.

This episode had a great look and it was great to see some other places in the universe of Star Wars and not only Tatooine.

But yeah. This is an official episode from a show called The Book of Boba Fett.

So they wont have this 50 minutes to develope the show and characters.

One of the best episode of Mando-verse.

Warning: Spoilers
-The Mandalorian S3E1- Pedro is frickin' amazing. A literal breaking point for Din Djarin on that scene with the armourer. He's no longer a.....!? The screenwriting was great, visuals looked extraordinary. Ironic how an episode of the Mandalorian turned out to be the best of Boba Fett. Now I'm hooked onto this show. Well, well, well.....if it isn't the iconic N1-Starfighter. Damn, what an hour.

WHAT DID I JUST WATCH OMG

Warning: Spoilers
This is, hands down, the best episode of this show, and one of the best episodes of Star Wars television. Mando is in this episode for 50 WHOLE MINUTES!!!

There is great exploration Star Wars lore, mention of some pretty massive names, and THE ARMOURER IS BACK!!!

We actually got two full blown darksaber duels, and THE NABOO STARFIGHTER is an incredible idea.

This episode utterly destroys the other episode thus far. Bryce Dallas Howard absolutely outdid her self. Give her a medal because I am have become genuinely interested in this show because of this episode.

A Ringworld!
XweAponX27 January 2022
I knew it, Din Djarin needed a new Razor Crest.

But I thought this was the book of Boba Fett?

It's all the same to me, I see the threads of the story. We are given a small teaser about what the next season of the Mandalorian is going to be about. Not going to say what that is. It was mainly something beyond his control, and he can't lie about it. That's not who he is.

We knew that Boba was assembling muscle, and we even knew that he would be calling upon Mando. Boba is simply a different kind of Mandalorian. We get to hear more about what happened to Mandalore, and we get to see it as well.

For the first time ever, there is a Larry Niven style Ringworld in the Star Wars universe. Not a very large one, this one is more like a Halo world. But the imagery was beautiful.

We learn more about the darksaber here too, and Bo-Kaatan. There are Mandalorians and then there are Mandalorians. Mando appears to be a member of a very strict group. It was appropriate to plant this episode here because Mando and Boba are of a kind.

First rate writing and directing. An expansion of the Star Wars, plus a reminder of how great Pedro Pascal's character is.
amesmonde26 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
When Djarin returns to bounty hunting and searching for for his people, things don't go as planned and he finds himself back in Mos Eisley, reunited with some old allies.

Directed with gusto, Bryce Dallas Howard's 'Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian' is really a Mandalorian episode, which while miss placed nevertheless is a fantastic addition. Written once again by Jon Favreau, he knows how to please long time Star Wars fans while setting new ground. This episode thankfully keeps antics serious, (not including the return of Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) which is fun in its own way) the with some witty Star Wars infused humour that is on the money.

Mando confesses his helmet removal, which adds plenty of tension and drama. There's more Darksaber action, Paz Viszla returns demanding a duel with Din Djarin in order to win the blade in combat, which is a highlight. Emily Swallow reprises her role as the Armorer and forges a mysterious gift for Grogu destroying the Beskar Spear. But the icing on the cake is the Naboo starfighter, the type that appears in The Phantom Menace, and Mando's replacement for his beloved Razor Crest, which travels the old pod-racing course. The special effects, both practical and computer generated are high-end. Chip off the old block Howard's production is first-rate.

There's plenty of new visuals and locations, namely a ring-like space station called Glavis. There's a nod to The Island of Dr. Moreau's (1996) make up design in the opening. But synonyms with the series' there's loads of callbacks, Gonk droids, Jawas, Rodians, Tatooine, X-Wings, R5, Empire's probe droids and KX droids similar to K-2SO from Rogue One to name a few. But there's not only nods to the films but also The Mandalorian, which shows is power of the series cementing it in Star Was live action history. Ultimately, there's the mention of spice and it finally ends with the inevitable meeting with Fennec Shand.

Overall, while it doesn't really push The Book of Boba Fett forward, the episode is a handshake to Star Wars and a clever expansion of the Star Wars universe plus The Book of Boba Fett. While expanding both Mando and Fett's story, it's also a reminder of how great Pedro Pascal is as and new original character Djarin.

Mando Season 2.5
wetmars27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great to see Mando back! I clapped in excitement. It was very interesting seeing how he is doing nowadays. No Grogu, is more brutal in combat due to the loss of Grogu, and still collects the bounty. I have to say that duel, where Mando uses his dark saber against the meat-packing plant people, was badass. MAN'S SLICED THEM IN HALF! I like how the remaining men got out of Mando's way. They ain't dumb lol. The worldbuilding of the Halo-like structural world was cool. AND WE GET TO SEE THE PREQUEL-LIKE ELEVATORS. We get to see the comeback of The Armorer and Paz Vizsla. I seriously love them.

We get a recap explanation of S2 where how Mando got the Darksaber from Moff Gideon and the reason why he's wielding it, also another explanation of what happened to Moff. Of course, he's still alive and has been sent to the New Republic for interrogation. And will face justice for his crimes soon. We get a flashback on how Mandalore was destroyed in the Great Purge where TIE bombers annihilate the hell out of the surface. "Oh, it's beautiful..." I noticed that it happened during the night, and it's pretty sad if you think deeply that the Mandalorians died during their sleep. Damn you! I love how the landscape looks in the devastation with menacing-looking Imperial droids on the surface. Had me Terminator vibes there.

I do like the direction where they're setting up for S3, and give us surprises where Mando struggles to wield the Darksaber since it's got a wacky relationship with him. Mando's Darksaber training with the Armorer was nice to watch. The way that she used her weapon bonking on Mando's head, LOL. Paz interrupts the training challenging Mando to a duel for the saber since Paz has the same bloodline as Tarre Vizsla, but they have to remove their jetpacks. They do so. Pretty nice to see the mini-force field-shield back. Awesome duel it was. You had Paz kicking Mando's ass.

After the duel, the Armorer asks Paz and Din if they ever removed their helmets once before. I was like: "Oh damn, is Mando gonna tell the truth or lie?" Mando does tell the truth. It broke my heart when Armorer states that he isn't a Mandalorian anymore, BUT Mando begs for forgiveness. There is an answer for that which according to Creed, one may only be redeemed in the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore. The problem is the mines have all been destroyed. There has to be water down there, but it'll be tough.

Mando gets on board commercial transport to Tatooine checking up on the status of his Razor Crest. Mando is pretty much disappointed seeing his replacement, a pre-Empire starfighter that was used by the Queen of Naboo. Also great to see Peli again. It never gets old with her personality lol. Speaking of which, we do get an appearance of a BD droid which was a nice call. Mando copes that he has nothing left of transport deciding to help her, as her droids & Jawas help repair it. Smh, how dare R-5 use language around Mando.

That's no way to get proper customer service. Mando takes it for a test flight. "Now this is pod-racing!" First impressions - I am blown away by how fast that ship is, holy Jesus! I bloody love the design. Like they always say, you can't beat the classic. Also, I was surprised to see the podrace landscape again for 23 years. Mando has a lot of fun with it resulting in getting in trouble with the New Republic again. Mando plays it cool until the two ask for information about his past activities in which he uses his sublight thrusters. Mando returns only to find out that Fennec needs help alongside Boba. Mando accepts this, but he wants to see if his "little friend" is safe.

Overall, this is pretty much your usual Mando story. I am a bit disappointed with no screentime of my man himself Boba and felt out of place in the middle of a spin-off, but I will cope with it. I do agree with Mando's armor looks better than Boba's.

I love the shininess, don't give me that plain color. Great worldbuilding, plentiful of action, better dialogue, wonderful shots (( just noticed Tatooine looked way better with Mando. )), more screentime of the side characters we all know and love, the soundtrack slaps, and a bunch of lovely callbacks. I truly missed Mando, and it just warms my heart to see him again.

I'm gonna have a hard time deciding if Episode 2 is the best, but this will be a 10/10.

Mixed feelings - why did they do this?
conshb3 February 2022
This is generally a great episode, but not a great episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Everything about this feels like it should make a great mando season 3 premiere, but itself it's been shoved into the wrong show and is detracting from the story we had just gotten used to. Bryce Dallas Howard did a great job directing though, and I had fun with the episode.

Where's Boba?
karukun27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really don't understand how this has such a high rating. This is just a episode of The Mandalorian, that's it. The entire time I'm just left wondering, okay when's Boba gonna show up? This is his show but yet he's never in this episode. There was some really cool callbacks to the prequels and that I really liked. The story is okay, but meh. On it's own it's nothing special. It's not bad, but it's not anything amazing either. All the other episodes are way better, yes, even the one with the "power ranger" biker gang that everyone rags on so much, I actually enjoyed that one.

Fett as a butcher's dog
southdavid27 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure what it says about "The Book of Boba Fett" that comfortably the best episode of the run so far does not contain the title character at all and barely has anything to do with the main narrative of the show. If it was from different creative forces, that might explain things but barring a triumphant directorial return for Bryce Dallas Howard, it's the same team that are, for me, misfiring with aspects of the storyline thus far.

Since giving Grogu to Luke Skywalker, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) has been looking for the remnants of his creed. He locates the Armorer (Emily Swallow) and Kaba Baiz (Ardeshir Radpour) in the depths of a halo planet and though is initially welcomed, is asked to leave when it becomes known he broke the tenets of the faith and showed his face to his adoptive son. The Mandalorian then heads to Tatooine, to get a new ship from Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) and whilst there receives a request for help from Fennec Shand.

It helps, of course, that we've spent two seasons with Mando already, and know much about him. But in this one episode I understand more about what he wants and believe in the steps he's going through to do it, than I do about how Boba Fett's actions feed into his desire to be the new crime lord of Mos Espa. It also helps that this episode is full of references to business we understand, either from the show or from the wider saga; the returning Mandalorians, the Dark Sabre, Peli Motto, the Naboo starfighter and the patrolling rebels.

I don't like damning one show to raise another but in terms of clarity of purpose and storytelling, this episode stood streets ahead of what we've seen so far.

Solid excursion from the main plot
snoozejonc26 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Mandalorian returns to Tatooine.

This is welcome detour from the slow burning plot of Boba Fett and sets up the next chapter of the Mandalorian's story.

There are quite a few exposition dumps that expand the backstory of certain characters and do some solid world building in the Star Wars universe.

It is great to see Din Djarin again, and in action, but as a stand-alone episode for me it is a mixed bag. It starts well, but as the technobabble and exposition increases during the ship building scenes I found that it loses a bit of momentum. However, It picks up towards the end as the writers start to have fun with the character on board his new ship.

The fan service is excellent and viewers who enjoy in-depth details of the galaxy far, far away, plus the familiar sights and sounds of the franchise should have a ball.

I love the design of the space city and it provides a good mix of locations for this show that has been so dominated by Tatooine. One scene that follows Djarin around a variety of different areas on this location is very slickly done.

For me it's a 7.5/10 but I round upwards.

THE WAY
tristan_1926 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Chapter 5 is the best episode yet. Surrounded by sense of nostalgia and familiarity, this episode reintroduces Din in fantastic manner.

The cinematography was outstanding, showcasing the beauty of the planets. Some of the shots are spot on. We get some mentions about Grogu, Bo Katan and the Vizsla family. We also see a well choreographed fight for the Darksaber, and a tragic scene with Din having to confess he actually did remove his helmet before.

The ship scene was maybe a little long, but I'll take it. It's the calm before the storm, and we build the story, with a little appearance from the X Wings, providing some levity and humor to the scene.

The only negative here would be that we don't want Mando to overshadow Boba in a show about Boba Fett, but we will see in the next episodes...

You can actually see that this episode was written and directed with care. It's essentially a Mandalorian chapter. The end with Fennec meeting Mando is so great, seeing as they didn't start on the best foot, but are now sincerely happy to see each other.

Tastentier26 January 2022
What an episode. It packed more worldbuilding and lore than some of the recent Star Wars movies. The effects were big screen quality, especially during the little history lesson. Who would have thought that everyone's favorite Imperial security droid could be creepier than any Terminator! This was one for the fans from start to finish. Now I can't wait for the next Mandalorian season!

specialbobby26 January 2022
What did it do for the show???

Loved this episode, felt like those involved did too, as a prologue to 'Mandalorian' season 3 you couldn't do better, as almost the last episode of Boba Fett it gave me the impression that I feared all along, no one has 100% faith in the story their telling and should have left the hardest Bounty Hunter in the galaxy to be a guest star and a mystery.

I expect next week will be an absolute blast of an episode. But this episode has shown Boba does need a bit of help from his friends.

This was an episode of The Mandalorian
This clearly shows that the Mandalorian is a much more intersting character than Boba Fett. And to be honest, I don't get it...why make a Mandalorian-epsiode in The Book of Boba Fett, when Mando has his own series? It was a good episode, but had nothing to do with Boba Fett.

A good episode... Of "The Mandalorian".
W011y4m526 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Chapter 5 is one of the most peculiar installments of any series I've ever seen because oddly, it totally seems to forget what show it's a part of...

Hence, instead of focusing on advancing the plot in "The Book of Boba Fett", audiences are instead treated to an unexpected, first episode of "The Mandalorian" S3 (randomly shoehorned in to the middle of a spin-off's debut season) - which has hardly (if any) relevance to the established narrative from the previous 4 weeks?

There's no doubting it's a strong outing... But not of THIS programme. Therefore, it feels so out of place, I can't deny I found the entire viewing experience rather jarring?

Once again, I simply have to conclude that the creators have such little faith in the title protagonist's ability to succeed in his own franchise, they constantly have to rely on others in order to sustain it; before, the tactic writers used was relentless nostalgia bait (needless flashbacks, featuring events depicted in beloved "Star Wars" films for the sake of winning over die hard supporters), then it inexplicably featured an ensemble of "cool", "edgy", "rebellious" young / teenage characters (blatantly included to appeal to / resonate with a younger demographic) & now it's dragging back Pedro Pascal?

Can't Temuera Morrison ever be allowed to thrive by himself - without constantly being overshadowed? This is meant to be his story?

Best episode yet... but come on!
mattmakefashion29 January 2022
So this is by far was the best episode yet; fortunate and unfortunately it has nothing to do with Boba Fett which made it that way. This episode had its issues with action scenes being 30 seconds long, and then trapped by insanely long dialogue and video montages. I could not tell if it was good acting of just the trip from the acid Peli Motto must be taking. She was amusing but on the verge of asking for an intervention. It was also cool to see old time alumni Captain Carson Teva come out of retirement for a cameo. But please with an infinite amount of stories and an infinite amount of new character possibilities please make one that is new and fresh.

It appears the Mandalorian may be headed to meet up with old grandpa Boba Fett and his day nurse. We at least know the Mandalorian can take care of an infant so he will be sure to fit right in and take some duties off Bobs Fetts nurse and caretaker.

Loved it
shakedatjunk26 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Best episode so far. Basically like a between seasons Mandalorian special. I love the steady pacing that allowed scenes to be drenched in atmosphere and make you feel like you're in the world. The fights that we got were the best fights of the season and felt brutal and how a Mandalorian/bounty hunter actually should be fighting. I also loved his training session. Sucked he got booted from their group, you definitely felt bad for him there.

Cinematography was beautiful and it felt so good to have some space flying and planet hopping. Being on Tatooine for so long has been painful so this episode switched up the atmosphere great.

Some great Easter eggs and we got some history/backstory on Mandalore, the Dark Saber, Bo Katan, and some other things people who haven't watched Clone Wars & Rebels would be a little confused on.

I loved the incorporation of stuff from the prequel movies. The ship building & flying scene was amazing.

They did well on connecting his story to the current Boba Fett plot and it definitely looks like this show will be taking a big step up from here.
