Executive Producer Paul Simms and cast member Anthony Atamanuik have said that that everything was filmed in the spring of 2021 and required covid safety protocols to be in place. According to Simms, the casino scenes had to be carefully set up, to create the illusion of a busy, crowded environment while "trying to limit the exposure of the actors to other people and to big groups". Often the camera angles have as many slot machines as possible in the frame, to fill up the space. Extras are strategically placed in the background, milling around while still maintaining physical distancing. Atamanuik commented that it was eerie to be working in an almost-empty casino, and joked about asking the management to activate some of the machines for real, so he could try playing the slots.
Some may assume that Nandor's Interpretation of how the world function is in reference to Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld', where a giant turtle in space carries elephants which in turn carry the world. However, Pratchett himself was referencing centuries old maps that depicted our world in this way. It is also likely these depictions were artistic license rather than a prevailing belief that the earth was in fact carried by giant animals, although the character of Nandor has repeatedly displayed enough gullibility to take such drawings as fact.
The casino where most of the action takes place is supposedly in Atlantic City - but it was actually located in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Likewise, the exotic foreign locations where Guillermo has to collect replacement soil from Nandor, Nadja, and Laszlo's original homelands are all in the same part of Toronto - "20 feet across from 'Heathrow' was 'Iraq,' and then down the street was Cherry Beach" which stood in for 'Greece' ..."
Sean mentions the party could be the L'inconnu de Las Vegas (2001) crew. Not only does Nadja discuss her history with the Rat Pack (who starred in the original), the episode then culminates in an Ocean's-type caper.
