THE mexifornia show that needed to happen

It's been awhile since the Mexican and Latino community had a SMART comedy series, and it has arrived.

For those saying it's offensive, you don't know Mexicans. If you're Mexican and find it offensive, well, I'm sorry for you. I almost peed my pants 10 times in the first episode.

A brilliantly funny, poignant glimpse into this world.

The actors are so good, the scripts so tight and funny, from a perspective I never knew I would love so much. Every character is so clearly defined and interesting and their stories shine a light on things I never considered. The visuals and art direction really shine.

But, most of all, it's really, really funny.

I am not Mexican or Latina, but so enjoyed This Fool - and all his family and friends. It was like being a fly on the wall and seeing absolutely everything - good, bad and ugly - which is usually seen as funny by someone in everyone's family! Watching the changes and growth in the group was a lot of fun and rewarding.

The one problem I had was with Julio's age. 31? Really? Are we fudging just a bit?

Please let there be more seasons in the offing. We need them, so we can laugh - at ourselves through them.

This show is borderline perfection. It reminds me of my childhood and just overall a really good time watching You can't help but just laugh.each episode just makes new memories come back.

From first impressions I thought this was gonna be stupid but it's more like stupid funny. Julio has the quintessential Mexican American look. And all the regular American ailments. He has emotional issues with Jessie, lactose intolerant and was bullied by Luis is his bully older cousin who now has to learn from Julio. The whole thing is fun and it has a good story line with interesting dialogue and Luis's beatboxing is not bad.

The best thing is that this show is intelligent and treats the homie culture with respect!

I switched this on intending to watch 5 mins to get a feel for it...I ended up watching the whole season. Loved every minute start to finish, there HAS to be a season 2!

From the minds behind Corporate, a personal favourite, This Fool follows Julio (Chris Estrada), a volunteer at the Hugs not Thugs foundation. Between helping is cousin, Luis (Frankie Quinones), recently released from jail and Maggie (Michelle Ortiz), his on again off again girlfriend, the show follows their lighthearted shenanigans around LA. Quite funny, I laughed good number of times. A lot of charm I was definitely smiling throughout and looking forward to a season 2. S2 Update: Series still good as before, however this season was too all over the place for me. The plots get a little chaotic, followed by repetitive, but in the end still an okay show.

This show is absolutely from the heart and freaking hilarious to boot. It's been a while since a comedy has made me feel that way. Maybe I'm proud too but damn nonetheless this show is witty...no joke lol pun intended. I'm not paid, or part of production...I'm just an average joe who likes to watch good shows. I'm happy I found this show. The jokes hit and it's meant to be comedic. For me at least; it was not offensive at all. I relate and I'm sure the rave reviews come from those who relate to it too. I can't get over how funny and heartfelt and REAL this show can be. I love it man. Get goosebumps thinking how it resonates with me lol for real homies. I haven't laughed that hard at an unfamiliar show and it shows in me writing so much about how much I love it lmao.

The main character, Julio, just isn't that likable. They even have an episode about Julio wanting to be considered a "good guy". Try harder. Abuela does come on strong, but overall I just gave up on it.

I quit after the third episode

I thought this show might be unique and wanted to give it a chance to grow on me. Unfortunately with each episode my interest diminished. There are some mildly funny bits but it's populated with shallow and uninteresting caricatures. The last straw for me was the scene where a character gets kicked in the balls. I assume it was intended to be funny. It wasn't but they doubled down and another character gets kicked in the balls with exactly the same setup. Still not funny. Maybe preteens will be amused but I doubt that's the audience they're after. I guess if that's what does it for you keep watching but I'm done.

I decided to watch the show because TikTok kept giving me ads for it honestly I wasn't disappointed. I liked how all the actors looked like real people. I found myself laughing a lot which I honestly rarely do with comedies and sitcoms that come out nowadays. But the plot and storyline were interesting and unique. It was unrealistic but also very realistic at the same time I don't know to explain it you'll just have to watch it and see. Julio is your unlikeable unbearable main character but you'll still find yourself rooting for him at times. Overall it's a pretty good show I hope it gets another season.

Julio character is overly cringe!

This show is great but what makes it lose stars in my review is the writing of Julio Lopez. He is over acting a "tough guy" he throws the F bomb ever sentence. The character is such a loser. The rest of the show is funny and entertaining to watch. I wanted to try to stick it out for the story and the rest of the characters but I couldn't. Julio makes it unbearable to continue... His character needs improvement on so many levels.

I get sex sells but I don't think the show needs it to be included. Show is funny alone without it.

The GF of Julio isn't the best but she is way better to watch then Julio....

Uneven but watchable

From the reviews here one might think that this is the best thing in comedy ever. It is not. It's not bad but it's definitely not great either.

The characters are not likeable, nor really that funny - just sad and stupid. The jokes are all over the place, some work but in the end it get's just embarrassingly clear they ran out of material. The jokes get so childish that I can see the actors being ashamed of them.

The show doesn't really have any kind of an actual story, which is not a problem per se - but further points out the flaws in the writing. The acting is, well passable imo - but the characters are a bit unbelievable which propably didn't help the actors.

I Only Wish I Could Watch More

This show has been a genuine breath of fresh air. I wasn't aware that it was on the way, I simply opened Hulu one evening and saw something new, and I gave it a shot. It's great... I won't give away any spoilers, but I will say that you'd be hard pressed to find someone who can't enjoy this show, it's funny, it's genuine, it's well written, the cast is great, and it's well worth your time. My only complaint is that I don't have more to watch until season 2!

Hilarious and True to Life

Funny as can be. Every man and woman in every barrio knows people like these. These kinds of friends. These kinds of relatives. These kinds of stories. The well meaning guy everyone steps on. The exes who can't stand each other but keep coming back. The tough guys who keep picking fights even though high school was 10-20 years ago.

A few reviews insist this series is not accurate or is somehow offensive. You do run into the occasional bourgeois type of person, some of them wishing they were white, who insists you can't laugh at yourself or say or do anything they perceive as negative to a people or ethnicity.

I didn't know the three main comedians behind this before. But I'll seek them out now, either TV shows or stand up.

Near perfect

I saw this on my Disney+ home page (UK - it's on Hulu in the States), knew nothing about it, and decided to have a look. That day I watched half of season one! I'll be sad when I reach the end of season two, that's for sure.

I'm white and British, I know nothing of the lives of Mexicans in LA, but there aren't many comedies that have made me laugh as much and made me care about the characters so much too. Even the most far-fetched storylines feel believable, which is thanks to some strong writing and great performances.

I sincerely hope it'll keep going for more seasons. Please let it be so.

Surprised

Honestly I was surprised with this show. I didn't know how it would be coming in but I loved it. More people should check it out. It had heart and made me laugh more than I thought it would. I'm glad it had more mature language because sometimes it makes me feel goofy when they try to get around cursing. Just doesn't feel right.

All good except one thing

So I like the show because there's never really any representation of like Southern California Chicano Mexicans. But I really wish they wouldn't have gone political. There was zero need for that scene with Ronald Reagan and all the bad stuff that they claim that he did. Obviously the director has got a serious issue with the size of something that he's not comfortable with on his body because he has to use this platform a ls a way to trash somebody that's dead. So I fast forwarded through that crap and the rest of it so far is good Just stick with making a show for everyone not just a small core audience that you think will love the fact that you were negatively political. It wouldn't even care who it's against either right or left just stick to doing something good for everyone.

Made me lauch really hard.

Most comedies are kind of funny, reuse the usual jokes, but nothing more. This Fool surprised me a couple of times and I had to laugh really hard.

I'd like to thank the creators and actors for this show. Looking forward to another season.

I never laughed so frequently as I did with this show. As a now 50-something year old quite familiar with LA and LatinX culture, the show was a much needed breath of fresh air from other sitcoms.

I grew up listening to oldies and hip hop, so the blend of music alone sold me. Frankie Quinones won my heart from the first episode and I've since been watching the Cholofit videos, lmao, so great!!

The antagonist Julio is just perfect and convincing and I can totally relate to the whole codependency/familial thing.

If I'm not mistaken, the woman who plays Julio's sister is in an episode or two of Nathan Fielder's "The Rehearsal" And a.graduate of the Fielder method.

Awesome show, please bring more seasons as this is a niche that many of us have long been yearning.

Well written comedy, which is rare these days. Many laugh out loud moments.

I never write any reviews on the many shows I watch, good or bad. When im looking for something new to watch I will somestimes check to see how other people have reviewed it before i check it out. See I am a proud couch potato and really enjoy my down time in front of the boob tube. Somehow I stumbled upon this show, and after watching it, I could not believe I had never seen or heard anything about "This fool" It is so so so funny. There is nothing that I could write that would be better than what has already been written in the other reviews, but I had to stop and add something. There could never be to many good reviews. Some shows will have 1 or 2 funny moments or 1 or 2 funny episodes and its considered a good or entertaining show, but "This fool" makes me laugh so so many times during each and every episode, so saying its a really good show is not enough. It's constantly and consistently funny. The writers of this show should be winning some type of award, but even with that the actors they have these roles and the way they deliver it are so on point. I've never really had a "favorite" show, but I do now! This is worth everything I'm probably neglecting by sitting in front of the tube. No guilt here.

My dad turned this on and it's cute! There's no overarching storyline through the episodes. Each episode has its own problem that the characters handle terribly with hilarity. I think the birthday episode is the standout so far.
