... infidelity popular East or West
bjarias2 December 2023
... The Affair with Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, & Maura Tierney was wildly popular for several years, running 53 episodes from 2014 to 2019... this Turkish version of the exact same story (minus 4-seasons) ran in 2021 only garnering a small fraction of a Western audience (if much-at-all) that the earlier-version had... ie- IMDb showing more popular one at having 48K ratings to 400+ ratings for the other

... actually they both have viewing-merit, both-well-acted-produced... nit-picking, one could say Ruth Wilson is more authentic than Hazar Ergüçlü in that character's role, and maybe Defne Kayalar more than Maura Tierney, but the overall storyline comes through well-enough with any of them cast in respective roles

... was it necessary for another version to be made.. indeed, as much of the Eastern segment of the world population has to react-relate better to language-actor-familiarity one over-the-other... infidelity a-popular-genre world-over

... note- Hazar Ergüçlü a solidly-good-actor.. 27yo she just looks-appearing in this production many instances substantially-younger.

Very bad.

It progresses very slowly. It is very boring to hear the same story from a man or a woman. The male character's tone of voice is not compatible with his actions.

Interesting, provocative and controversial

Firstly, I do not like series centralizing on infidelities which is why I did not watch the series "The Affair" which Sakli is based on. I started watching Sakli without reading up its background and whilst I realise it was gravitating to this taboo topic, I decided to finish season 1 since the series is magnificently executed. All the characters in the series acted very well. I'm not sure how well received this series is received locally in Türkiye as there are really some sexy steaming scenes. I like the way the drama is delivered with different versions - Ozan's version, Asli's version and the viewers are to form their own interpretation of what truly was the state of emotions and what truly happened. I happen to feel that Ozan is truly irresponsible and hateful and a coward for what he did to his family. Asli is a mixed bag - sometimes I pity her but most times she is overly selfish. The one I truly feel for is Volkan - Asli's husband. Berin's character is also to root for - strong, over-controlling and yet very vulnerable. I especially like the crime murder investigation that is added to the entire series. It's a real bonus. However, will I watch the 2nd season? I'm not sure. It's a good story, brilliant execution but it's not a subject matter I like to dwell on. The series will not give you a feel good factor, instead you may feel unfinished, unsettled or even a little angry.

Cliche but intrigued

I like the way the story is told, grabs my full attention and curiosity, haven't got to the end yet, but I'm fascinated with the plot. The characters are really good, so real that I feel anyone could be living the same story, I can also play as detective cause there's no way to know what happened until you put together all the pieces.
