Quite funny...

I had the opportunity to sit down and watch this short animated movie set in the "Hotel Transylvania" universe together with my 11 year old son. And I must admit that it was actually fun, albeit short.

"Monster Pets: A Hotel Transylvania Short" does keep up with the style, comedy and art of the previous movies in the animated series, so there is definitely some continuity here.

And while it is a short story, it was actually a fun one, because it is non-stop action from start to finish. And my son and I were definitely enjoying it and had some laughs as it progressed.

This short animated movie definitely serves as a good teaser while waiting for the next movie in the "Hotel Transylvania" series.

My rating of "Monster Pets: A Hotel Transylvania Short" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Warning: Spoilers
It was very short but funny and interesting to watch. Very cute. Of course, there is no logic. Guy spends hours of his time to find dog another pet to play instead spending 20 minutes to play with a dog, lol.

Very funny.

It's so funny. I'm laughing out loud. The animation is so cute. Tinkles is so cute and also Drac too. Although it's just 6 minutes long, but it turned out to be one of the best short film I've ever seen.

Well done, Sony animation.

fun companion short

Drac wakes up and his giant puppy Tinkles is on him right away. All it wants is to play fetch with its giant heavy ball. Drac can't get a moment's peace. He decides to find a pet friend for Tinkles. It's a lot of bad pet dates. None of them are working out until he finds a cat made out of sand.

This is a DVD companion short to Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania. It's fun. There are two fun montages. First, Drac gets crushed by a giant ball. Then there is the series of bad pet dates. It is all fairly fun and I really like this franchise. It is not the upper crust, but I like these characters.

Feels like quantity over quality unfortunately Warning: Spoilers
"Monster Pets: A Hotel Transylvania" is an American animated short film from this year (2021) and actually this was released back in April, so approximately two months ago now. The title here gives you also the title this short is connected with obviously, and the words on the left side of the : are the title of this one we got here. It runs for five minutes and if you add the closing credits, it is closer to six minutes, therefore the running time stated here on imdb. If we keep looking at the basics, you will find the name Jennifer Kluska here as writer and co-director. She has mostly worked on DC Super Hero Girls in the past and it's films like this where people get the chance to prove that they are ready for a prestigious full feature project. Or to show that they are not (yet) ready as I would say is the case here. The co-director is Derek Drymon btw. Drymon usually worked on screenplays more often than direction, so his inclusion here surprises me a bit. He has scored several Emmy nominations already and is mostly known for SpongeBob Squarepants. Both Kluska and Drymon also appears as voice actors in here. And they are indeed in charge of directing the next Hotel Transylvania full feature film and I genuinely hope that one turns out better than this short here.

It's not a failure or anything, but overall I was not impressed. The joke with the big red ball gets old quickly, even if the inclusion at the very end for some closure was among the better moments again. Then there is the idea of the protagonist looking for another dog to play with and it almost feels like some casting. The first one who is so tiny and scared was still funny, also thanks to the camera angles there depicting the differences in size, but eventually this crucial (you can call it that as this is what is directed attention to in the title) part of the movie feels rushed and uninspired sadly and a key reason why I give the outcome here a thumbs-down. By the way, the cat who turns out to be the winner in the end reminded me a bit of the one from Sailor Moon. Just me though. I wonder how and if this telekinetic kitten will be included in the upcoming full feature film. Maybe it will be included, but not have a lot of screen time because they cannot take for granted that most people have seen this short. They probably haven't. Okay, this is it then. I know I repeat myself, but I hope the level of the upcoming full feature film will not be the same as this short film because I enjoyed the previous 90-minute (or so) movies. I have a feeling it could though and the franchise has finally jumped the shark. "Monster Pets" gets a negative recommendation from me. Skip.
