Definitely Telenovela
patricia-haertlein4 August 2021
Don't get me wrong! The first set of actors are highly engaging, and I LOVED the clothing and sets. However...when the whole cast changed into unrecognizable characters, I lost interest. Seriously.

Change of cast ruined it
Dillydaydream11 August 2021
I agree with a lot of the comments on this. Episode 27 ruined this for me. OK it's 12 years later than episode 26 but surely they could have stayed with the original actors. It's a shame as it was really good up to this episode.

They made a huge mistake.
juliannematos10 August 2021
Highly disappointed. I was so into it, I binged watched it for 2 straight days and then...there it goes. Episode 27, the whole cast changed. I just couldn't get into it after that, I was cringing. Otherwise, I would of definitely finished but no thanks. The only reason why i'm rating it a 5.

What a disappointment. The first ensamble was great and very engaging but ruined it with the change of cast which do not connect with the viewer.

Must watch (until only 26 episodes)
shahtroy8 August 2021
This is a really good series to watch with amazing starcast (all of them), great acting and fun to watch. Fast forward 26 episodes and entire starcast is replaced with people you'll not want to watch. Terrible acting and horrible looks as compared to original starcast. How did the producer decide to change everyone and replace them with misfit people and made the story boring. Just watched 30 mins of new starcast and i am already bored. Just horrible! Not watching rest of the episodes. Such a shame they ruined a perfectly good series.

Addictive but Weird Casting
dennisjroy5 August 2021
I am a big fan of narco series so I've been binge watching this one with only 9 episodes to go of the 60 episodes in the Season 1. The casting for the second half when a new older cast takes over is weird. The main character grew by 14 inches, the wives look younger and the some of the children look older than their mothers. There's the alledged white Gringa played by a Latina and is totally unconvincing. Otherwise I'm hooked!

Watchable
mianova004 August 2021
It's not that bad...it also doesn't take place in the 80s, the first 5 minutes are 1978 then 50s & 60s. (Loved the costumes.) If you don't get the plot and the side stories you're pretty dense..

Keep watching it gets better!
amountag23 January 2022
I admit the first few episodes may bore you, but if you keep watching, the plot thickens! I'm an American learning Spanish from these Latin Netflix series, so if it's not interesting, I won't stick around to read subtitles. I liked Nicole Santamaria and Juan Pablo in Surviving Escobar, and although the energy in this show is totally different from JJ & Alexandria, they are both amazing actors and have great energy together. This show is a little more family friendly I guess lol Plus Emmanuel is so cute! I enjoyed learning about Colombian culture, especially during the 60's and 70's, as there are some cool references to the US that draw you in long enough to enjoy learning Spanish AND the history of Cali!

When they changed cast it ended for me...
bralvarado545 September 2021
What a big mistake to change the actors in the middle of the series , it was like watching another totally different thing , I could only watch 1 more episode and didnt like it any more so it ended for me at the 27th episode.

Change of cast
vsavillarreal25 August 2021
Why did they change the cast so dramatically? It just left a bad taste in my mouth and couldn't continue watching! They don't even have a slight similarity in appearance, it was hard trying to catch on to who was who... I'm so disappointed as the show before episode 27 was soooo good!

Even after episode 28 it gets better
stephanie_mia13 September 2021
Yea people were mad that they changed the characters but honestly I'm not mad at it. The show starts to get intense, and it starts getting good ! You have to continue watching. I'm on episode 56 and Things are getting real ! So I say don't stop and continue watching.

Disappointment
cxmsfdjc18 August 2021
I love all Colombians shows. But this one right here- smh. The first half of the show was amazing, kept me at the edge of my seat. I don't know why in the world they changed the cast. How in the world Leo got taller in 12 years? Oh lord and let's not start with this Cindy chick. Seeing her acting is like nails to a chalk board. Horrible. I cringed every time I had to watch a scene with her. Wish they can remake it with the first cast and it would of been a very good series. Because of Cindy and Leo height. I give it one star lol.

Why the change of actors
janpiedrahita14 September 2021
The serie at beginning failed to properly engage the audience. However, that soon is forget with the excellent cast. But the serie advanced and take away once again all the excitement from the audience when the production decide to change the whole cast (Big mistake).

Bravo
dralistairduff5 March 2024
I watched this series with keen interest and then looked up the reviews, as one does. I am in complete disagreement with most of them. The story, direction, acting and production are all excellent - far better than most shows on 'gringo' media!

Above all, the series consistently achieves the most important quality for the dramatization of tragedy, verismilitude.

Many here complain that the cast changed mid-way through the series. This is true, but the new cast is as excellent as the earlier. Every single character is portrayed convincingly. I am now seeking more from this company.

I should add that the subtitles work well.

Bad, Bad, Bad Decesions on Cast.
jenramirezc14 September 2021
The first cast was the best. I lost interest when they were changed. The director should have come up with ideas to put makeup to make them look older. First 27 episodes worth watching. Juan Pablo Urrego (Leornardo) has to be on of the best actors in Colombia in this moment. His brother who played (Emmanuel) never seen this actor but is just as good. Big mistake!

When you haven't had enough bad telenovellas
sanjsrik3 August 2021
I dare anyone watching this to not throw up a little in their mouths within the first five minutes.

This is just bad. I mean bad as in really bad as in you will want to gouge out your own eyes for watching this, bad.

The first five minutes show you all that you need to know about this show:

* cheesy narration - overblown and unnecessary details * bad acting - oh, not just bad, but REALLY bad acting * plot - yes, I DARE you to try to find one * story - no, just don't even bother

The costumes are probably the only thing they got right in this because it's set in the 80s. The costume designer seems to have raided every single thrift store within 500 miles.

Just save yourself a LOT of time and do NOT watch this.

Not worth the time
qui_j21 August 2021
This Colombian Telenovela is one of the worst ever seen! It is poorly produced, with horrible actors and a plot that's really silly! It must be very low budget! Could not get beyond the first episode, just not worth the time to watch!

Are you looking for a casting director?
renjim-7273424 January 2023
Not to beat a dead horse and to resonate with all the other comments - who was the casting director? Sack them, get them another job as soon as possible.

None of the characters resemble each other 12 years later...a good make up artist and stylist would have done a better job than both the casting director and the director; not only their appearance changed their personalities too, and don't get me started on the "Americans" they hired. Anyone looking on Instagram or two weeks in NY would have found better actors and accents, for even less pay. Shame as it was decent up to episode 26, maybe a remake would fix this atrocity. Shame, shame, shame!
