The scummy story is porous, obscured and weak. The best scenes are those with Olga Kurylenko, who saves this movie with a few exceptional performances and her beauty. She is however, the only stand out. The ham fisted direction alienates the viewer. Harvey Keitel performance was also not satisfying. I particularly disliked his extreme close ups. Without Olga, this would barely rate worth watching. She elevates an otherwise very poor overall experience to something worth your time. Another major irritation is the too frequent Italian voice overs with no subtitles, which irritated me greatly. I really can't recommend this movie, except to those who adore Olga.

Disappointing.
First, let's discuss the title. At no point is there an actual paradox of any sort or any related "effects" of said nonexistent paradox.
I've been "in love" with Olga for several years. I don't know if she is no longer being offered good roles or if she is making really poor choices but this one is bad either way.
Harvey Keitel used to be pretty cool. His zenith was obviously as Winston, aka the Wolf in Pulp Fiction. This role is both minor and lame. How far has his career fallen that he would consider taking this role in such a stupidly written movie?
One of his many poorly written lines goes something like "in life you are given three choices. Two are made for you." Pure stupidity. If the choice has been made for you, it isn't a choice. Never mind that what follows is both stupid and unnecessary, the statement is idiotic to begin with.
All around, this movie fails on so many levels. I'm not sure why I even give it 5 stars.

I had not heard about this 2023 action thriller titled "Paradox Effect" from director Scott Weintrob prior to sitting down here in 2024 to watch it. But I figured that I would give it a go, since the cover looked interesting enough, and the movie had Harvey Keitel on the cast list.
Samuel Bartlett, Ferdinando Dell'Omo and Andrea Iervolino wrote a script and storyline that started out okay, but then fell into a slump about halfway through and never recovered. The movie trotted on in a monotonous pacing without really going anywhere. And it felt like I was sitting through a long sequence of filler to make the movie run for 87 minutes. There wasn't much story progression to the narrative in general, and that made sitting through "Paradox Effect" rather tedious and boring actually.
And you don't really care much about the characters in the movie either, as the character gallery is flaccid and one-dimensional.
While Harvey Keitel is on the movie's cover, he is but a name to lure in the audience, as he is not in the movie all that much. I am not particularly much a fan of Olga Kurylenko, but she actually carried the movie well enough, make it a bit more bearable to sit through the monotonous narrative.
I found "Paradox Effect" to be a disappointing movie, and it is definitely not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time. There are far better action thrillers out there, but if you enjoy the genre perhaps give director Scott Weintrob's 2024 movie a chance.
Sitting through the 87 minutes was a bit of a test, as there wasn't all that much story progression, and without much of anything overly interesting happening, it just wasn't anything to write home about.
My rating of "Paradox Effect" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

Paradox Effect was a pleasant surprise. I didn't have a movie to watch and after scrolling through a number of films that I didn't want to watch, I thought I'd give it a go. I didn't know what to expect. The story kept me going and twist locked me in. I really like this film and wanted it to be longer.
There is never enough Harvey Keitel in any movie but loved to see him every time. The action was exciting and Olga Kurylenko is so underrated, she is beautiful and a fantastic actress.
The director made some stylish choices and the movie looked great. Im pleased I made the choice and watched the movie.

Ok, I didn't fall asleep, but this was painful to watch. Another reviewer said it felt long despite being 88 minutes and I have to say, I was convinced this was 2 hours or more.
I'm American and tend to only like American films, but I saw The Courier a year or two ago and Olga was great and the film was far better than it should have been. Gary Oldman brought his game and I thought Harvey would do the same here.
The plot was weak and I found it hard to care about any of it or the people involved and of course, everybody was stupid and made the wrong choice leading to the overall mess that this movie was.
No idea what the budget was, but this movie was so bad, Matt Damon couldn't have saved it.

Great movie and I enjoyed this throughout. Took a chance as I like Olga and haven't seen Harvey Keitel for a while. Olga is so damn good in this film, none of her recent films have appealed to me but this one was the winner. Harvey definitely looked like an older version of the actor we all love.
The story kept me hooked and the performances of some of the non-stars was a touch off at points but overall the director did a great job. The car chase was amazing and kept me hooked. I actually would watch Paradox Effect again.
My only question is why did they call the film Paradox Effect as this is an intense thriller and that title sounds sci-fi.

Ill watch anything with Harvey Keitel. He is my favorite actor and his movies are the greatest in my opinion. I was excited to see Paradox Effect as I hadn't heard about the movie and hadn't seen Harvey Keitel in a movie for a while.
The film did not disappoint and I enjoyed the story. I remember Olga from Bond and Oblivion, she was great and I wasn't aware of the other actor Oliver Trevena but he did a good job.
The film was original and kept me guessing, normally I know exactly what is going to happen at the end 15 minutes in but this one kept me engaged throughout.
Great movie and I'll keep a look out for the director's next one.

The actors tried really hard to make something of a very thin screenplay. The plot was fine, the visuals actually great for what was clearly a tiny budget and the editing good.
Harvey Keitel was chronically underused but maybe that was a contractual thing and Kurylenko was quite decent although not believable as an ex-addict; too beautiful!
The main problem for me was the poor screenplay, script and pacing. The plot crawled along at an agonisingly slow pace at it's worst and the twist incredibly improbable.
Still, it's better than Twisters and A Quiet Place: Day One on a fraction of their budgets.

Not the usual fare as far as action movies, a young mother is in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets trapped in a rather unique situation that seems at first like a hostage deal for lost drug money and then changes to something far different, very believable story, well acted and told. Nothing questionable, no nudity or graphic violence with exception to a scene where a persons fingers get cut off. Put yourself in Olga Kurienko's (Karina) place as she navigates her way along without getting herself killed or her daughter as well from a violent drug kingpin out for revenge. After all is said and done , what happens at the very end will surprise you. Fun slow burner movie, don't expect a lot of action, chases or any of the usual Hollywood stuff, this one was well written and directed and actually feels realistic without all the flash. Enjoy.
I would definitely recommend Paradox Effect, especially if you are looking for a well made movie with a story that keeps you engaged and stops you looking at your phone.
The leads are great, especially Olga Kurylenko. She isn't in enough good movies and she was the reason I watched the film. The guy wasn't an actor I knew but he wasn't bad.
Harvey Keitel is always good but he is definitely older nowadays and not the Harvey I remember from the Wolf in Pulp Fiction. But he plays his role well and I loved the scenes he was in.
