Robbie's Band

A funny family episode, including Fred MacMurray getting to play his famous saxaphone. If you remember all of Fred's musical comedies, this will bring back some memories.

Robbie is starting up a Dixieland jazz band (with dreams of Las Vegas?) and they ain't that good. If you're a fan of the show, you know he switches back to rock n' roll in later episodes. The house is anything but quiet, Robbie and his buds practicing LOUD in the kitchen. Bub, Mike and Chip are going nuts, although amateur musician Steve enters the scene with lots of encouragement. And how about if he plays along with his sax?

A great story, and the guys play some old favorites, although off key. The happy ending comes when Robbie's band FINALLY gets their act together and plan to perform for Mike's college frat dance. Let's put it this way, by the end of the episode, the music IMPROVES.

Question, is Don Grady really playing the trumpet?

Good supporting cast; Peter Brooks plays Hank, Andrew Colmar as Tim. Robert Dunlap appears, who would soon co-star on PEYTON PLACE. Future tv composer Richard Bellis plays Carl.

Director Richard Whorf somehow, someway works his magic here, soon to gain fame with the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES.
