To prepare for his role, Hrithik Roshan studied about twenty paraplegic patients to understand their behavior and attitude.
Hrithik Roshan was nominated for best actor for the Filmfare awards but lost it to Shahrukh Khan for My Name Is Khan 2010.
Years later Hrithik stated that perhaps the audience rejected the film due to Bhansali not making it commercial enough . The audience wanted Hrithik to have some scenes with his star image . Hrithik suggested to Bhansali to he shoot bare chested sea scenes in the flashback part. Bhansali refused saying he wanted to stay loyal to his subject.
This was Aishwarya Rai's last film before her pregnancy.
