Bad acting
james-re-sheridan15 July 2021
Really disappointed as I am a massive AHS fan, I thought the story was somewhat okay, but the acting in the second episode was atrocious, specifically Kaia, her scenes are watchable but by far the worst part of the show. Hopefully it picks up in further episodes.

Bad acting
Meddanny21 July 2021
Does Kaia even know how to act? The rest actors are okay. So far, I would say it's the worst season... Very disappointing...

Jump scare galore...
teeball22 July 2021
The amount of cheap jump scares in this episode is laughable. Most of them are just very loud noises and quick cuts. You have to have a mysterious plot and frightening characters to make a horror flick. These first two episodes have neither.

Worth the watch for any fans of AHS!
crazyk-6026119 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
These two episodes are not nearly as flushed out as Murder House, but given the two episode story, I think they did a good job!

The acting isn't the best, but sometimes cheesy can be entering and camp as hell, which is what I think Murphy was going for here.

**SPOILERS** The ending of the episode made me like it even more! One of my biggest problems with Murder House was the toxic relationship between Violet and Tate. I really liked how Scarlett got the choice to live her life, and was able to come back to the house once a year to see her girlfriend. I would totally watch a sitcom type show about the ghosts of Murder House, and I thought that ending was hilarious!

A complete disaster
vagus-36-46562716 July 2021
Bad direction, horrible acting, terrible screenplay looks like it was written by an AHS fan, not two experienced directors/writers/producers. It's something that reminds of AHS but it's actually a cheap, cheesy teen drama. Rushed, badly executed, a disaster.

Airing Scrapped Ideas...
setgetsiin17 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
At least that is what we think: That some of the ideas that were possibilities for Murder House (or some that could not squeeze into the original season) can be found here. And we love this idea; the shoulda coulda woulda but didn'ts ended up in this particular two part series.

We saw snippets of Freakshow (to a degree) which was a lot of fun. I don't know, we enjoyed it. TRUE: The leggy Cindy Crawford kid can't really act, but I doubt that's the real reason she was there, mkay...?

We surmise that this entire series is going to be dedicated to ideas that hit the editing floor. We're okay with that while we await August 25th.

What we did NOT like: "A violent act against our marriage." Who wrote THAT?? A "violent act against the marriage" is more like a busted lip and a trip to the ER. Some of us actually had to go thru that. So it's a bit insulting to compare a flirt with ER visits involving broken noses and cracked ribs. Get the definitions of behaviors RIGHT, as some young folks are a little impressionable and innocent to what violence *akshully* is. Let's not completely blindside them.

Not a good start
justsomereviewer123416 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Really really weak story with an unlikable main character and absolutely no consequences. Sure characters die but by the end their just happy being ghost. Our main character is a killer and just gets away with it scott free while her poor Dad's (the only good actors beside the psychiatrist) die. Also going back to murder house is really weird because none of the cast from that season return. So the rubber man is in the show but you never see Tate Langdon. Just really lazy on the show runners part. I hope the rest of the series gets better but boy this was a really bad start.

Great Easter egg in either this or episode 1
username8724 November 2021
There's a scene where the dads are stripping wallpaper. In different sections of the room there are paintings underneath the paper. These paintings are Francisco Goya's black paintings. He painted these (his darkest works) directly onto the walls of his house and never expected anyone to see them. I just though it was such a good little detail that would go missed by so many people.

The House is Back
sydandtysmom29 July 2021
Loved seeing the return to the original House. The premise of the episode was good. Seeing some of the new, up and coming actresses was fun to watch. Paris really did a Great job. And Love Matthew Bomer return.

Middle School levels of cheap/cringe writing
castroalex-8003319 July 2021
You can tell this was made by older people who wanted to appeal to the younger generation. It was oddly paced, felt like a.wattpad fan fiction, had robotic acting, and so much cringe.

Such terrible dialogue.

I like it!
misscarrie_lou20 July 2021
I guess maybe I must be in the minority because I liked it. It was definitely meant for the teens and early 20s crowd, but it was a nice little continuation of Murder House, but almost completely separate characters were fleshed out.

a little less good, a little more ridiculous than the first

The story does not lead to anything, the characters are not very endearing ... there are several ludicrous moments ... but nevertheless, it lets you watch.

Could have stopped at the 1st episode
mi-mpollas21 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It would be way nicer if they just stopped on the first episode and the killing of the girls and so on. The love story between them was so unnecessary, not a great start but I'm looking forward for the next ones.

Not horror at all
Acid_Reflex16 July 2021
This was the most pathetic horror story I've ever seen in my life. I think they were trying to do comedy, but even that didn't work. It was more like a bad love story. I guess you can only run a series so long before you lose focus.

A disappointment
falainakorna19 July 2021
This two episodes prove that just as Ryan Murphy is capable of creating masterpieces and chosing the perfect cast for his projects... he's not perfect and can make things just as this.

The blatant nepotism (which isn't something he's a stranger of) this time was reflected on the quality of the series making these two episodes so far the worst I've seen from him. The writing also wasn't the best but paired with his nepobabies cast and the excessive protagonism he gave them, American Horror Stories did not started as well as what is expected from a man w his credentials.

"Honey, we need to talk."
classicsoncall10 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of two and three line reviews panning this episode, but if you didn't like it, why not tell us why. It's not enough to say it sucked without offering a reason for your disapproval. I don't watch enough of this teen audience stuff perhaps, to give an objective review, but what I found hysterical midway through was the very comical, black humor dialog between 'yet to come out' Scarlett (Sierra McCormick) and her gay parents Michael (Matt Bomer) and Troy (Gavin Creel). Trapped as spirits in the house in which they were murdered by their daughter's quite dead 'girlfriend' Ruby (Kaia Gerber), their paternal advice from the beyond was logical enough if you could make your way through the grisly murder scenes. I have to say, the black latex body suit was a nice touch, and the introduction of potential gay partner Adam (Aaron Tveit) only added to the whole dysfunctional aspect of this story. This probably isn't as bad as a lot of the other reviewers here make it out to be, but what do I know, I'm probably twice as old as the target audience.

Unsatisfying Rushed Ending
salle-5030820 July 2021
This episode was awful. I understand that anthology series have to work a lot of plot/character development into a small time frame, but honestly if the story you want to tell is that involved, just give it its own season. The characters in these two episodes were all horrible and unsympathetic. The actors all did a fine job, but ultimately there was no redeemable character payoff despite the good performances. The story from these two episodes was such a disorganized rushed mess. I was super stoked about this series, but if the rest of the episodes are of this quality I don't think I'll be able to make it through them all.

Bad and cringy
sailor_venusx22 July 2021
I hope and pray that the rest of the episodes are competely different and way better so i can increase my rating.

When you make a TV show that has this title ,viewers expect the same vibe like the original. I am sorry but that's how it is. Plain and simple.

During the first episode there were some moments that made me feel like i was watching something that belongs in AHS franchise.

But there were very few of those moments.

The acting was awful,i mean can we stop trying to make ''the 16-year old disconnected from the reality in her completely not relatable life, messes up everything and everyone and somehow get's the happy ending'' story happen?

If you already HAVE to cast actors in their mid twenties or late twenties at LEAST dress them properly. Even if they are playing the role of the rich highschool girl.

The outfits aged characters(im talking about the mean girl's quartet).

The main character was also in ridicilous outfits and wig that made her look like she is a 30-something year old stuck in her teen phase.

Im not going to get into detail about her two looks at the end of episode two because those are fashion crimes and should only be dicussed in court.

Another problem is that they reserved only TWO episodes for this story, which means that the murder and ghosts and all that jazz had to be done in a very lazy and sloppy way. There was no room for back stories or character development.

If you only have two hours for something that happened at Murder House give us more about the characters we know and love, tell us more because we know them and we feel for them. Don't try to make the brand new characters relevant because you don't have time to make us care about them.

One of the great things about Murder House are very detailed stories of characters involved.

I couldn't care less for any of them, beside Matt maybe but that may be because i like him in general so yeah.

Fingers-crossed for upcoming episodes. First two episodes are just bad.

Shame
Drank2228 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Living outside the US, this series didn't become available to me until a few days ago. Through waiting for it to become available, I kept seeing all the negative reviews and the IMDB score dwindle down day by day.

"Surely it must not be that bad!" I'd say to myself.

Boy was I wrong.

As others have mentioned, this episode (and the previous one, but to a lesser extent) is ridiculed with bad acting, bad writing, and bad plot. Almost as if this should be streaming on the W network. I cringed several times.

Sierra McCormick is alright and so is Paris Jackson, but the other 'actors' either don't know how to act or are just bored to be there. Yet, I can't blame them entirely, as this episode has such a weak script. I don't think even Meryl Streep would be able to be convincing with some of the dialogue in this episode. The murder house being used as a setting doesn't really serve any purpose at all, except for creating plot holes when compared to AHS canon, and making everyone disappointed that none of the original characters show up. Which I don't necessarily find bad, as it would just be too many characters and plots for 2 episodes to handle at once, but then again begs the question; Why even be at the murder house in the first place? They easily could have made a completely new haunted house and applied the same 'rules' that apply to the Murder house as they've done for other seasons of AHS (hotel Cortez, etc). It also doesn't add anything at all to the 'murder house' lore/plot/what have you. I really just don't get it.

This episode really lost me when~~~on Halloween~~~the 2 dads realize they're dead because they can't leave the house--on Halloween. Then a few minutes later, Ruby literally says (which every AHS fan already knows) that Halloween is the one day the dead can leave the house. Which they do.

Overall, these were some very cheap episodes. It actually put me in a bad mood after because I couldn't believe that the reviews were right. This is coming from someone who thought S8 of Game of Thrones wasn't that bad! I could easily write a multi-page essay on everything that was wrong with it, but I'll let it go. Here's hoping the other episodes are better.

One more thing: "Grrr we're mad you killed us so we're gonna spend the last 20 minutes of the episode trying to kill you" "Wait, can you guys not kill me so I can say by to my dads and leave? I'm sorry" "Hmm okay, guess I was a bit mean and now I get to be pretty for ever" ......
