if you want to cry then it's for you
suhaila-389637 May 2022
Plot has a lot of holes ,100% predictable scenario, it was rushed and lacks depth , the child actress wasn't the best , no one really played violin it's voice over but still i cried and cried and cried. Wasn't bad but no that good either .

Feel good movie, i would say Keep ur expectations low
shahansr22 January 2022
It's a type of movie you can watch with ur family, have bit of laugh, get bit of emotional. I loved the kid and her energy for this movie. Don't expect it to be really serious or find flaws here and there. Some stuff doesn't make sense but still it's a movie and not real life.

Partly emotional.
aykantopcu24 January 2022
I just can't imagine the movie if there wasn't classical music feast at most part of the scenes. Of course I am not talking about the rehearsel or concert scenes. At some points, the main actor wasn't really convincing enough. Don't expect too much, it was just a play on the audiences heartstrings. In a nutshell, such a Netflix movie, containing a bit of comedy, a bit of drama, and full of music.

One for the heart
eladevi-1201727 January 2022
Such a relief to watch a movie about family and love and caring. Great performances by Engin Duzyatim (from Dirilis Ertugrul) and the absolutely joyful young actress Gulizar who plays his niece, and many of the other actors. It's lovely. I cared about all the characters, and the story was well paced and engaging. This is at it's core a story about family -and we do really need these stories to remind us of what is truly important: the awakening of love and the changes that brings. Watch it for your heart.

Nice storyline, beautiful music, but with so many flaws.
bell_movieaddict24 April 2022
The first part of the movie was a bit boring. It didn't have to be so long. The first part leaves a big plot, but when we figure out what it was, it was completely forgotten in seconds, like it didn't even matter. Also we can't really see the development of the characters' relationship, it just happens. There were some parts when I actually said "whaaaaat?" The ending was totally cliche. Some of the acting was pretty good. The girl wasn't amazing, but I think it was a difficult character for someone that age to play.

Now... the music! That made it all worth it.

So if you love music ou the violin, I think you'll like it. Not love, like.

Lovely Film
AJ_McAninch29 January 2022
Wonderful cast in a sweet film that made for a lovely afternoon. Is it predictable-of course it is. But in a chaotic world filled with rage and horror these days, I welcomed the music and the gentle warmth. Like many countries, Turkey is making terrific films I enjoy so much.

A superfluous exaggerated drama
udereli2 February 2022
Far fetched scenario and unfortunately despite the successful acting by two lead characters, it does not fly. Extremely exaggerated and dramatic and unrealistic final. It could have been a really pleasant and feel-good movie, should have been avoided the unnecessary aggravated drama.

A beautiful and well made Cliche
alemaogagb5 February 2022
Yes, this is a cliche. A well written and well made cliche. Good acting and a lovely, emotional and involving story. Worth watching. I don't understand the 5-6 rating, definitely should be a 7-8.

The worst movie I have watched recently
andacargon21 January 2022
Could all components of a movie be terrible? Here it is! Scenario, director, production, acting etc. Only driving force to make this slipshod film should be making money.

Warm & Fuzzy
dee_uson24 January 2022
This was a beautiful movie, quite honestly. I was in tears several times, laughing and just so engrossed in this uncle and niece relationship coming together. Yes it has its cliche moments, but the perspective of how a child really can change your life in many different ways was beautifully portrayed and I couldn't pull away from the movie regardless of how predictable it was. Just wonderful acting and beautiful music!

Disapointing
veronicamedinaramirez4 February 2022
I was so exited about this title, as a musician and film lover. I just couldn't find something to like about this movie. Nor the acting or the music or the atmospheres. The actor's way of playing was a disaster. Like in the 70s whenever there was an actor playing an instrument, it was so clear that he/she wasn't doing it but in those days that was the way movies were made. When I saw this one was made this year I was shocked. All of them did a terrible job pretending to play. The music they used for back ground to make things more dramatic was terrible as well. What a waste of time. It could've been a nice story. Terrible copy of KOLYA which was a piece of art in every sense.

A BEAUTIFUL, SIMPLE, LITTLE MOVIE.
gwspackman23 January 2022
I'm a little biased when it comes to the beautiful Belcim Bilgin, I will watch anything she is in and the little girl did a great job!. The storyline was fairly predictable and you knew where it was going. I watch movies to be entertained, not criticise and I'd have been disappointed had it not ended the way it did.

I love Turkish movies, they seem to be devoid of of the special effects the Hollywood movies depend on these days and they have a knack of holding your interest throughout.

Old Bollywood style!! Wasting time!
notitle-683 February 2022
I personally love Istanbul, that's why I chose this movie. I tried to be positive about the movie all time, but come on!! Have some respect for people that spend their time to watch. This movie doesn't belong to this time. Theme and story and everythings is totally simillar to bollywood or 30 years ago movies!

Waste of time.
burakbasaran-8817031 January 2022
3 points for the effort. Bad scenario, poor acting. Violin sound doesn't match with the display. Little girl is just a sweet child, not an actress. It's a music movie but no one can play musical instruments. You could at least train the cast. Ridiculous and waste of time.

Worth watching
qureshinauman21 January 2022
Well I watched this movie as I am a big fan of Engin Altan Duzyatan having watched his work in Dirilis Ertugrul and Barbaroslar. And he didn't dissapoint me, Although the movie isn't a masterpiece by any means it hits the right notes, you feel good watching it throughout and get emotional in many scenes.

The movie is about 2 brothers who were very close in childhood and get separated for some reason(Don't wish to spoil by giving the reason). Both brothers are excellent violinists. The elder(Ali Raza) is poor though and younger(Mehmet) is famous well recognised. The elder brother gets a disease and passes away leaving his 8 year old daughter(who is an excellent violinist herself).

Initially reluctant to have her but as the movie progresses Mehmet (Engin) and his niece Ozlem develop a special bond.

As the movie is about violinists the music throughout is amazing.

The characters and actors portraying them are good.

Engin Altan Duzyatan is one of the finest actors worldwide.

Nice in a Hallmarky sort of way
sclancy-7118729 January 2022
I would bet that the actors in this movie are much better than the voice actors who dub it. Probably the original writers are better than the translators. In spite of the never ending clichés, there is some promise for an upbeat movie in these trying times.

if it's about music then please get it right
emmamanolte1 February 2022
I wasn't thrown off by the acting or storyline (even though they weren't the greatest) but mostly by the playing of the violin. Ulrich martins played the notes (because he actually studied the violin i believe) but the other leads didn't even get the strokes right which disappointed me :/

It will not leave you cold..
samabc-3195228 January 2022
A simple plot, predictable plot..story that will tug at your heartstrings..although run-of-the-mill dialogues, a much cliche sequences with obvious gaps such as a missing depiction of child's reaction and emotions after losing her only parent, somewhat incongruous pieces in the story but overall the story glides fluidly, it is riveting that forces you to overlook the glitches.. filmed in Istanbul and good cinematography but above all, it is the violin that fills one's heart with joy and captivates through out .. the compositions are indeed a treat to the ears.. This movie will not leave you cold.

don't watch! waste of time
ziya_m23 January 2022
The movie is a cheap parody and attempt to something. Actors game were disastrous and low!!! Besides all this the movie is full of technical and reality mistakes. I would rather say that the movie was attempt to pretend that there's something alike in turkey. Dialogues mostly not linked or even has no beginning or development. In other words its just an attempt. Poor Netflix, they shouldn't place that at the platform.

Just watched It
xanigi-6631921 February 2023
My Father's Violin is a poignant and thought-provoking movie that tells a story of family and redemption. This Netflix movie of Turkey is a beautiful exploration of the relationship between a father and son who find their way back to each other through music. The movie is a visual treat, with stunning cinematography and a beautiful score that complements the themes and emotions of the story. As I watched this film, I found myself captivated by the narrative, invested in the characters, and moved by their struggles and triumphs. What I appreciated the most about this movie is the way it explores complex emotions and themes without being heavy-handed or preachy. Instead, the movie allows the story and the characters to speak for themselves, making for a more authentic and relatable experience. This is a movie that will stay with me for a long time, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a compelling and emotionally resonant film. My Father's Violin is undoubtedly one of the best Netflix movies of Turkey, and it's well worth your time.

Giving Some Stars Just For The Great Music
filozofumtrak30 January 2022
Only good thing in this movie is the MUSIC! However there is Spotify and YouTube for that. You don't need to shoot a movie just to make us watch all the cliches with bad acting. Leading man with no acting ability, leading woman without any facial expressions and horrible child actor. Bad mixture, bad taste! :( C'mon! Spend some money Netflix. Give us a good movie that is worth for our time.
