The episode opens with The Creep playing a VR version of Night of the Living Dead (1968). The "choose player" gravestones include Johnny, Barbara, and Ben, along with audio samples from the film.
The movie "Horror Express (1972)" in this episode in fact is a real movie that came out in 1972. Unlike most shows that will create a fake feature for a show, this used real life movies.
A page in the comic lists out some of the season 2 episode titles with a brief synopsis of each. Those listed are this episode (Night of the Living Late Show), The Right Snuff, Pesticide, Dead And Breakfast, Public Television Of The Dead, and Model Kid. At the bottom of the list is Shapeshifters Anonymous, which was the Creepshow Holiday Special episode that aired between seasons 1 and 2.
With the exception of the holiday episode, which aired as a special between seasons, this is the only episode of the series with just one story.
The references to Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), and Day of the Dead (1985), seem to be paying homage to director George A. Romero who was the man behind the first Creepshow (1982) film.
