Second best episode of season 2
randyv-285685 May 2021
This episode definitely relied more on laughs than horror, but man was a good one! I'll admit, part of my love for this episode stems from my adoration of Hammer horror films, but it also explores what myself and many other fans think about which is escapism. An all around great episode.

Warning: Spoilers
An interesting story well told. The surprise ending was telegraphed a bit. This episode contained only one story instead of the usual two.

Bad Janet. Bad, bad Janet. Back to your void.

People are insane now. This episode was the bomb

Warning: Spoilers
I think quarantine melted people's brains who call this a dull episode. 😑 Or they have always been crazy 😜.

The amount of creativity that went into this episode, alone, would have held our focus for a full length feature film.

Everything from The creeper playing a video game in black and white, to the focus of our star heading into his favorite movie, which looks and sounds EXACTLY like a 1972 cult classic horror film.

His reactions with the characters were hilarious, not to mention the amount of work it took to make a REAL movie interact with a current actor, well...it was just magical.

By the end, my husband and I decided we have to check out "Horror Express" which this episode nods a huge tribute to. We found it is available on Amazon Prime and another streaming service and we will watch it Sunday. 😀 Absolutely brilliant, and huge kudos to the director of this episode, for pulling us all into the 1972 cult classic. 👏 So authentically.

We got an added kick at the ending when the creeper is playing the game again but in color, like he traveled through time...gorgeous concept, btw...and the ending being so surprising and comical.

Loved loved loved this episode. I love this entire series. You guys are doing PHENOMENAL 👏🙌❤👌💕💓 PLEASE CONTINUE....

A Virtual reality throwback which takes a wicked twist!
blanbrn1 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode number 5 from season 2 of "Shudder's" "Creepshow" only featured one tale that being the segment of "Night of the Living Late Show". The story is mixed with a classic throwback feel which blends with the escape and current times of technology. It involves a well off married man Justin Long who loves old classic horror films and his escape is going back in time to relive them. So from a contraption that he owns he pops and lays inside and downloads his favorite classic horror film and virtually lives reality and stays inside of it and experiences fun and fright! Only the wife D'Arcy Carden gets bored and a little jealous so she flips and changes the view one night on his watching experience and things twist and turn! Love the throwback and homage parody to George A. Romero's classic "Night of the Living Dead"! Overall well done episode that any fan of the series or fans of classic horror films will enjoy.

Creepshow Vengeance at its FINEST! Well done Nicotero, et al
thebaldphoenix5 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Any one rated this episode "below" a 6? Makes me ask two questions: "What in the WORLD were you watching?" AND "Do you UNDERSTAND Creepshow, at all?" (If you are still "learning" what Creepshow is all about, then I can give ya a pass. And recommend...BEGIN with the original MOVIE. My pre-teen has really gotten into this series. (She now calls it "her show". Lol. It comes on too late to watch during a school night...but she catches up on them via DVR).

And her very 1st "horror film" we ever introduced her to? About age 6 or 7? Was the original CREEPSHOW.

Witty, creative, spooky-yet-tongue-FIRMLY in cheek, with hammy acting and a loving homage paid to all horror comics and prior classic horror that came before it. Creepshow (and even its lesser sequel Creepshow 2) are GEMS. (And NOW the series. Absolutely heads and tails above the equally classic "Tales from the Crypt" we used to love as kids back in the day. Nicotero and team have created a MASTERWORK series.

And as a descendant of George Romero and Tom Savini? Greg Nicotero has created a series that does honor to not only the original comics, but also to the classic movie.

And "NIGHT OF THE LIVING LATE SHOW" may very well be...the BEST episode yet, in a line of excellent vignettes that Creepshow the Series has had so far.

Someone mentioned "well, it didn't need Justin Long". What DOES that mean? Every episode has at least ONE star in it. Usually a classic scream queen or a creative bit of casting, for an actor to play against type, or truly go "over the top" and have some fun.

Long was fine in this episode. He got to play his usual "fast taking/con man-type/charmer" self...and get his COME-UPPANCE-DUE in a fantastic twist of fate at the end.

The intertwining of the old Horror Express film (honesly...what horror fan does NOT love seeing Christopher Lee AND Peter Cushing, playing to today's audience?) And then? The end. Where the scorned wife goes nuts (after the actress played her perfectly-refined the entire episode)...dropping F Bombs and screaming "I HATE this movie! Who the Hell ever saw Horror Express?" (She was right. Hardly anyone did)...BUT...what better twist of fate to drop her virtual-reality-philanderer hubby Long into than with the legendary cast of the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD? At the climax of the film?

Priceless gems 1 and 2 here. And a way for kids (OUR kids age) now to be introduced to "Lee, Cushing and NOTLD"? All at once?

That is how the fun of "horror" lives on. And THAT is what Creepshow is all about.

(What is even cooler, was the "ending scene/tack ons" (the 1st person perspective Living Dead Game (looks like a PS2 game) and THEN..."The helicopter" from Dawn of the Dead...picks up the lone survivor and takes em to "The Monroeville Mall"? (Seen in the background...plain as day...the word "Monroeville" (and THIS is why Justin Long was IN this episode. You'll have to study his filmography...but Justin DID make a film in Monroeville, for Kevin Smith...(Zack and Miri...) that paid great homage to these original gems.

And after escaping the mall? They go UNDERGROUND...on the hydraulic lift? (Direct homage to "DAY of the Dead").

Brilliant. 100 percent brilliant.

Today's TV (for the most part) STINKS...on ice. It is extremely RARE when I can actually "thank a film-maker" for their work.

But on this one? Nicotero? Much thanks and Kudos. ONLY a Pittsburgher (or disciple of George Romero) can get all the in-gags and -in-jokes and references in this one.

And of course...for lovers of the old Hammer Films and Gothic Horror of the 1960 and 1970s? You get Lee AND Cushing again.

10 Stars.

Keep it ROLLING...Creepshow.

Thank you.

A new twist on a clip show
cary_howe30 April 2021
I would have voted it a lot higher but it depends too much on the clip footage so don't be fooled it is a clip show. At times they just composite Justin Long into a shot for no good reason just so they can keep holding on the original film rather than new footage. Funny that effects have gotten so cheap it can be cheaper to composite someone in rather than shoot original footage. It's a clever idea but was done better in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and that was long before CG took over.

15 minute story drawn out way too "long"
rmmil2 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, this was just painful to watch.

A waste of talented actors, there's so little dialogue and "story" to this episode that they had to pad 5 minutes of random stupid zombie video game (?) playing that had nothing to do with the story. It was so weird and dumb I had to double check what I was watching.

Then to the story itself, woof!

The wife killing her husband via his own VR invention was portended about 30 seconds into the episode, and there are multiple moments of characters standing / staring blankly with no dialogue. I don't know who wrote this, but they should be fired. It's just so inane and predictable.

This same story, jealous spouse kills significant other scientist because he spends too much time with his creation, has been told and retold in other, better, stories, countless times. Completely unnecessary.

Find better writers, write original stories.

Worst Episode of Creepshow
kylexile20 May 2021
This was by far the worst episode of Creepshow so far. I had listened to the show runner and he said they had filmed an episode with Marilyn Manson, but cut the episode because of the allegations against him. My guess is that they filmed this quickly because it didn't take much time to film since they were reusing footage from Horror Express and Night of the Living Dead anyways. I didn't think the episode on its own as a 20 minute segment would be that bad, but it's obvious it's purposefully padded to extent it to 41 minutes, which just makes the whole thing boring and uninteresting. You know what's going to happen a few minutes in and yet have to keep watching for a whole 30 more minutes to see it.

By far the worst episode yet
robertlflynn4 May 2021
Justin Long was not needed for this episode and brought nothing of value. The only good part of this episode would be the intro and outro. Some episodes of this series may not always be top notch but this was exceptionally bad. Watch every episode but skip this one.

Season one showed some promise but season 2 has just shown us poor writing and worse acting. This is like some bad low budget stuff.

So sadly dull
tedmonds-5615730 April 2021
I am so saddened to announce that the classic creep has been totally abandoned by Creepshow. This is a disgrace. Stayed awake through it just in case. This was the final straw. Going to miss you Creepshow.

Stupid

Apparently this was written by someone who knows nothing about VR or the technology involved in this story. Just another terrible episode, I'd rather be watching Horror Express.

Kind of a messed-up morality tale
joeyr-3058127 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The husband cheating in VR is punishable by death...OK. I'd hate to live in that world. Also the compositing was very amateur, not convincing at all. Story was drawn out and tedious. The Horror Express looks way more interesting than this episode's plot.
