A Formulaic Choppy Mess
Horror_Flick_Fanatic11 December 2023
All Souls, the latest crime thriller from director Emmanuelle Pickett, had the potential to be a captivating exploration of the morally gray world of undercover informants and drug cartels. Unfortunately, it falls flat with its predictable plot, underdeveloped characters, and lackluster execution.

Clichéd and predictable: The film follows a tired formula, relying heavily on well-worn tropes and recycled plot points. All Souls does little to differentiate itself. The predictable twists and turns fail to surprise or engage the audience, leaving them feeling uninspired and bored.

Unconvincing characters: The characters in All Souls are shallow and underdeveloped. We never truly connect with them on an emotional level, making it difficult to care about their fates. The dialogue is often stilted and unnatural, further highlighting the lack of depth and authenticity in the characters.

Lackluster execution: The film's pacing is uneven, with stretches of slow exposition followed by abrupt bursts of action. The editing is choppy and jarring, disrupting the flow of the film and making it feel disjointed. Following the characters when the action breaks out becomes difficult because of the editing.

The cinematography is uninspired, failing to capture the gritty atmosphere the film aims for.

Overall, All Souls is a disappointing and forgettable addition to the crime thriller genre. It offers nothing new or original, and its flaws outweigh any positives. If you're looking for a captivating and suspenseful film, look elsewhere.

If I had to say something positive, I feel that the actress, Mikey Madison, gave a good performance. But none of the other characters could match her acting skills. The little girl is adorable and I am sure she will have many future roles.

Here are some of the specific issues I found with the film:

The plot is predictable and unoriginal.

The characters are shallow and underdeveloped.

The dialogue is stilted and unnatural.

The pacing is uneven and the editing is choppy.

The cinematography is uninspired.

Its watchable, but not memerable.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars.

[4.9] What a 5 y.o. child!

A forgettable movie that is semi-entertaining in its core, but failing in its execution, not-credible characters (besides the daughter and to some extents the mum), cheesy, semi-cliched, done-a-hundred-times sub-plots, underused or useless supporting cast, a weak writing that makes the movie having 1h12min of runtime and if it meant to show a mother-daughter relationship, it could have as well been made as a humorous comedy and would have been a lot more successful.

It's ok, let down by budget
fbabka11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The film is enjoyable to watch, well acted with a good story. It is let down by unbelievable plot holes towards the end.

River arrives in a drug dealer compound/ranch, there are topless women dancing, doof doof playing, yea cool. But when the action goes down there are only 4 bad guys? Where is everyone else?

One guy at the door and the other guys involved in the plot, there is nobody else in sight, there's gunshots and people getting shot so where is everyone else? Even the dancers lol - they just vanished?

So yea, at that point the whole thing kinda crumbles.

It's a shame, could have been strong finish.

Still give it a 6.

All the best from Australia!

A POTENTIAL CULT CLASSIC
jeromesgabilo4 January 2024
Fans of crime thrillers and dramas are sure to be delighted with this directorial debut from Emmanuelle Pickett. The intense journey of the protagonist and the great length she was willing to take was executed and shown in such relatable and straightforward manner. The performance of the protagonist was nothing short of amazing. I just wished that the movie was longer and the story was clearer. At times it gets confusing what was really happening because of too much shooting and confrontation scenes, and I wished that the story arcs of the characters were firmly established. Also, dark cinematography was too utilized which made the film too serious to watch.

An hour and a half I will never get back.

What an absolute waste of time watching this. If I could give it zero stars I would. Feeble acting, diabolical script, poor sound quality. I will never watch this again. Sorry but it is truly hideous with 25percent of the words seeming to start with F. Good creative actor lines.... NOT!!! The best actor was the kid. God knows why they went out dressed like that. For someone who doesn't like violence against women and anti drugs, this could not have been a worse film to watch. Also lots of flashing lights and didn't see any warning g about it. I'm not easily offended but I would have been had I gone to the cinema to view it. Absolute rubbish!!

Damn Fine Directorial Debut
jimiii14 December 2023
A traumatic dip in the pool of American crime thrillers worth watching for any enthusiast of the genre. I won't make a defense of the script which I felt was cliche and seemingly rushed. But I will comment that the directing and performances are worth the price of admission regardless.

Hollywood writers don't often give the most stellar material to work with, but debut film director Emmanuelle Pickett's atmospheric control over the script rises above with captivating choices. The moments of tribulation throughout are extremely riveting and unsettling all in the same how she handled them, the beginnings of a master at work helming these scenes. She understands the power and the nuance necessary to make the viewers immersion feel overwhelming w her directorial prowess. Pure intensity that will make you squirm, and wonderful soft emotional cues with the mother and daughter. What a balance.

As a result of such vision, Mickey Madison shines in her role as River, and it's obvious she's a born star, but to see her in a gritty indie movie like this is super inspiring and feels special to see. Really looking forward to what this young director in Emmanuelle does next, would love to see her work any day.

All souls is the type of movie cinema needs to encourage keep making- building new voices and talent up along the way.

Congratulations Emmanuelle Pickett
danilorodriguescorreia12 December 2023
Emmanuelle Pickett directed this film perfectly, the charismatic performances of all the actors, but special mention to the protagonists of Mikey Madison, G-Eazy and Mia Love Disnard...The film is a hallucinatory journey of a mother who just wants to save her daughter's life, fights the police, fights drug dealers... River (Mikey Madison) is powerful and is willing to do anything to save her daughter. This is a sad reality for many women, single mothers, who fight daily to keep their children safe against the system, bad men and many other dangers in the world. Congratulations to everyone involved in this incredible production, everyone deserves to watch and appreciate this work, and understand that this film was made with a low budget and without much help, but it became a work, I hope it becomes a cult work in the future.

Impressive Directorial Debut
Biggoldbelt20 December 2023
Emmanuelle Pickett directorial debut is impressive.

All Souls deliver beautiful cinematography, stellar performances from the likes of Mikey Madison, G-Eazy and Mia Love Disnard along with a score that adds an extra layer of drama and suspense. While All Souls takes us on a dangerous undercover operation in the street of a composite of Los Angeles, it also taps into the heart, resilience and desperation of a mother who is willing to do anything to protect her daughter. While there are moments that are predictable in the ploy the film dives heavy into character work that carries the film along with its production team.

Really looking forward to Emmanuelle Pickett next project along with the cast involved future in cinema.

all souls!!
nayelideal9 December 2023
I actually loved this movie, i love how it shows the relationship between a mother and daughter and the lengths a mother would go for her child, amazed by the cast and crew, they had great actors for this! I originally watched this for mikey madison but during the film i've realized how much i like jade and of course river (mikey madison's character) i loved their relationship and even the behind the scenes there are photos and videos of them getting along and having fun and even friendship bracelets mia made for them, they're truly like family and how mikey madison keeps in contact with mia and her family, i hope them best for all and hope they get more roles like these, they did so well together:)!

"All Souls" is a great movie.
danielcraig0561819 December 2023
"All Souls" is an amazing movie that will keep you engaged from the beginning till the end. I was thrilled to see Gerald "G-Eazy" Gillum back on the big screen and he is getting better with each role he takes on. This time, he played the role of a villain drug trafficker named "Silas". He was also the father of 5-year-old "Mia Love Disnard" whom he had with his baby mother. "Mikey Madison" played the role of "River", a single mother in Los Angeles who was also the lead star of the movie. She did a wonderful job and there were a couple of crying and emotional scenes that she knocked out of the park. "Mia Love Disnard" played the role of the 5-year-old daughter and was lovely to watch in this film.

A stylish independent urban thriller about a mother's love
biglou-2986518 December 2023
Low budget independent films are very interesting. They're always able to show more style and do a lot with very less through the right creative vision. That's the case with Emmanuelle Pickett and her tense direction.

The edgy framing of certain shots, gorgeous, slick lighting and the effective paranoia of a confined environment in its plot make this a prime experience in why independent films deserve theatrical support and discovery. A new lead actress in Mikey Madison, of Manson family recognition, and the suprise acting turn of G-Eazy make the viewing "Some Kind of Drug". Most definitely one of the adrenaline type. Go give it a watch.
