First look images have been unveiled of Nikki Amuka-Bird in upcoming survival thriller “Jericho Ridge.”
The film tells the story of North Washington county sheriff Tabby (Amuka-Bird), who finds herself alone in the sheriff’s office one night while her colleagues are out on patrol. But she soon finds out they’ve been set up by a murderous drug cartel while she herself comes under siege at the office, where she must battle desperately to save herself and her son.
Amuka-Bird is best-known for “Jupiter Ascending” and “Old.” She recently wrapped on an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” alongside Dakota Johnson.
In first stills from “Jericho Ridge,” which has been shooting in Kosovo (subbing for North Washington), Amuka-Bird can be seen in her deputy sheriff’s uniform pointing a gun (above) while “This is England” star Michael Socha, who plays redneck crook Earl Macready, can be seen in another...

One afternoon in the early aughts, Melissa George found herself in a hotel room with Harvey Weinstein. The mogul, wearing a bathrobe, wanted to discuss two roles in his upcoming films Derailed and Amityville Horror. An assistant waited in the hallway, but then, fortunately, so did George’s ‘entourage’.
“I actually was very well protected back then,” George tells me via Zoom, speaking from a park in Paris, with one of her sons in her lap. “My agent at the time said, ‘You’re not going to that meeting alone.’ And [Weinstein] realized that I came with bodyguards and back-up.”
With her team lurking, he made no inappropriate moves, beyond his choice of attire. But then, a week before shooting on Derailed began, the lead role earmarked for George was mysteriously demoted to a supporting one. She believes this is absolutely because of that tightly-controlled Peninsula hotel meeting.
But she prevailed,...

Outlander fans are very familiar with horrifying villains. The antagonist of the show's earliest seasons, Black Jack Randall, was about as bad as a bad guy can get. In the upcoming fourth season, though, a new character might be giving Black Jack a run for his money. Irish pirate Stephen Bonnet, as fans of Diana Gabaldon's books will know, appears charming and handsome on the outside, but it doesn't take long for his awful nature to show itself. It's new territory for actor Ed Speleers, who plays Bonnet, and has previously made a career as fairly heroic characters.
Speleers started his career in a pretty magical way (pun intended). At the age of eighteen, after only appearing in school plays in England, he was plucked from a worldwide casting call to play the lead role in 2006's young adult fantasy epic Eragon. The movie, based on the first novel...

The long weekend proved to be surprising for Chrissy Teigen, as she was majorly treated by John Legend ahead of her fast-approaching birthday. (Happy Birthday!) The singer-songwriter threw a party for his wife Saturday at New York's Comedy Cellar, secretly inviting family and friends to join in on what sounds like the cutest of times. As part of the festivities, Teigen and attendees enjoyed Momofuku, a comedy set courtesy of Dave Chappelle (who reportedly had a joke about putting a Trader Joes in downtown Syria), and music from DJ Nice:"I can't imagine a single thing more I wanted out of my twenties," Teigen, who turns 30 on Monday, tweeted afterward. "Greatest friends and family ever, ever, ever." Of course, the cherry on top was probably being serenaded by Legend — which is something that should happen to everybody when they turn 30: Because this couple just can't stop. For more...

One of the more common compliments given to this past weekend's "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" has been that of the film getting a solid villain in the form of English actor Sean Harris.
Harris has built a career in recently mostly playing bad guys from his acclaimed work on Showtime's "The Borgias" and the "Red Riding" and "Southcliffe" mini-series along with parts in such films as "'71," "Prometheus," "Deliver Us from Evil," "A Lonely Place to Die," and the upcoming "Macbeth".
Harris has also generally avoided blockbuster filmmaking in the past, though has been drawn to it on occasion depending upon the filmmaker. Speaking with Deadline, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie talked about re-writes to the film's script and how that ultimately had a big impact on Harris' role as the film's antagonist Solomon Lane:

After small roles in The Sick House and A Lonely Place To Die, plus a series of appearances in TV series Persona, Gillian McGregor had her first major leading role in Beyond, the story of a couple at war with one another as a large, unknown object hurtles toward the Earth. Her performance dominates the film and is sure to bring her to wider attention. As it’s released on DVD this week, I caught up with her to ask how she became involved with the film.
“Lizzie, the producer, contacted my agent,” she says. “Well, I went in for casting and I really thought I blew it. I tend to get a feeling for how it’s gone. But then I got called back.” She laughs, remembering her excitement; it’s odd to hear such a light-hearted sound after watching her fierce and unhappy creation in Beyond.

At the heart of the ABCs of Death series is something I absolutely cherish about horror cinema; the ability to take a short story and convey an idea that terrifies (or if we’re lucky grosses out). It strips out the bullshit ie all those love plots and pieces of character development that are wholly unnecessary to a good horror story. Horror shorts, anthology films and portmanteaus truly are my favorite way to watch horror fiction. From Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark to Stephen King’s Night Shift. From Dead of Night to Creepshow. Bite size stories to tell around a campfire or underneath the covers or to read on the beach, that’s the way to consume horror in small portions.
ABCs of Death was comprised of 26 filmmakers creating horror fiction based on a letter of the alphabet and the sequel follows suit. No wrap story just right on into the sequence,...

"This is my anti-death penalty film," director Julian Gilbey explains to Shock Till You Drop of his hard-hitting ABCs of Death 2 segment. Where some filmmakers took the opportunity to participated in the anthology horror film and craft a visceral experience that perhaps favors style of substance, Gilbey used his allotment of time that offers food for thought and goes for the throat.
It also features one of the nastiest on-screen beheadings we've seen in quite some time.
ABCs of Death 2 - currently on VOD - features 26 filmmakers musing on the nature of death, using the alphabet as their inspiration. Gilbey, who previously helmed A Lonely Place to Die, took on "C is for Capital Punishment."

Yesterday ABCs of Death 2 hit On Demand platforms like iTunes, Amazon, cable and all the other usual suspects. It's possibly the most insane movie of the year. The sequel has segments directed by the minds behind movies like Cheap Thrills, Big Bad Wolves, Juan of the Dead, Cube, Inside, A Lonely Place to Die, Blood Glacier, Room 237 and Stage Fright, just to name a few. And they've all come together in this consistently entertaining madhouse where no two segments are the same, save for the fact that they somehow turn a letter of the alphabet into an absurd way for someone to kick the bucket. But as hilarious and twisted and disturbing as the movie is as a whole, we will certainly play favorites. Because there's one director in the bunch we just flat out...

ABCs of Death 2 arrives on VOD tomorrow! The film is the follow-up to the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning from Nigeria to UK to Brazil and everywhere in between. And, it's a vast improvement over the first entry!
In anticipation of the debut, we've received a still from "C is for Capital Punishment," a segment directed by Julian Gilby. He previously helmed A Lonely Place to Die and his entry in ABCs of Death 2 is a nasty piece of work.

The Longest Week Review
As is often the case with new directors, Peter Glanz’ The Longest Week is built from one of his earlier short films, A Relationship in Four Days. It’s a film that is going to divide critics, many of whom will dislike it for all the things that make it great, and is a tricky sell to most audiences. There’s a fine line between a derivative work (or one that is just patently stolen) and an honorific, and watching The Longest Week reminded me of nothing so much as Down with Love. While Down with Love was more directly putting forward the films it nodded to, and was more focused in its subject, it had a difficult time winning fans, and I suspect for similar reasons, even one has far easier entry points than the other.

Three years ago, Julian Gilbey released A Lonely Place To Die, a hybrid of the Most Dangerous Game and Cliffhanger – and a highly inventive, action packed thriller chock full of and suspense. To create this truly relentless action film/gripping crime thriller, director Julian Gilbey spent years practicing to become an avid and experienced climber, in order shoot the film from impossible positions, situated in and around the Scottish mountainsides. Gilbey and cinematographer Ali Adas avoid CG and instead relied on their actors and stunt crew to do provide the thrills. Every frame of this film is in service of keeping the audience at the edge of their seats with it’s breathless nonstop pacing.
Plastic is the latest offering from Gilbey, and follows the fortunes of the young group of students who fall foul to a sadistic crime boss. They are given two weeks to raise £2 million – otherwise they must face the consequences.

Plastic is the latest offering from Julian Gilbey, the director of Twitch Film fave A Lonely Place to Die, as well as a segment in the upcoming ABCs of Death 2. You will be able to find his next action-oriented film in cinemas and on iTunes and VOD on September 26th. We have an exclusive clip to share with you. In it, Game of Thrones' Alfie Allen looks like he is putting some doubt in the mind of Sebastian De Souza (UK Skins) about their respective places in their growing gang of credit card schemers. We may have a review of the film closer to the release date. In the meantime, enjoy the clip, and maybe consider increasing the security of your credit cards....

The ABCs of Death 2 now officially has a release date and it is just in time for Halloween. The film will be released by Magnet and Drafthouse Films on VOD on October 2nd and a limited theatrical run a few weeks later on the 31st .
The sequel is a follow-up to 2012’s horror anthology The ABCs of Death and, like its predecessor, will contain 26 short horror films by some of the genre’s greatest minds. As expected with so many shorts, the original was a bit of a mixed bag. There were certainly some incredible shorts like D is for Dogfight directed by Marcel Sarmiento, T is for Toilet by Lee Hardcastle, U is for Unearthed by Ben Wheatley, X is for Xxl by Xavier Gens, and the disgusting L is for Libido by Timo Tjahjanto. Several stills have been released for the upcoming horror anthology ABCs of Death 2. The stills show a severed head, a screaming witch and other harrowing characters. The ABCs of Death 2 will release later this year and the film features twenty-five directors. The entire director list is below. As well, the film will tell twenty-six short tales. Fans of the series can preview the release here. Story details for the film have not been released. However, this sequel will be similar to the original, in that each letter of the alphabet will celebrate another tale of death. The four stills hosted here are from four of those tales. Hajime Ohata (Henge), Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead), Julian Gilbey (A Lonely Place to Die) and Erik Matti are each represented. And, each still shows a small tidbit from this, sure to be, very large film. A still from Hajime Ohata's short film.

Generally speaking, one doesn't look to British films for glamour. Old-school class, perhaps. Grit and grime, sure. But Plastic is attempting to add a little more of the sort of sun-soaked, high-living style we associate with our Us cousins to this crime thriller, so you might want to don sunglasses before you check out this trailer. The film sees Ed Speleers' Sam and Will Poulter's Fordy running a credit card scam, along with mates Yatesey (Alfie Allen) and Sebastian De Souza's Rafa. But wouldn't you know it, they get on the wrong side of the wrong man (Thomas Kretschmann) and find themselves forced to come up with a lot of money very fast. We suspect that the presence of Emma Rigby's Frankie in their corner will help, from the looks of this trailer, but we'll have to wait and see on that score. Also starring Graham McTavish...

Our voyage through history's underappreciated films arrives at the year 2011, and a great year for lesser-seen gems...
Even a cursory glance at the top 10 grossing films of 2011 reveals something strange: nine of the entries are sequels. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 brought the fantasy franchise to a close with a staggering $1.3bn haul. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon wasn't too far behind with just over $1.1bn. On Stranger Tides continued the Pirates Of The Caribbean series' wave of success, despite mixed reviews.
Elsewhere in the top 10, you'll find another Twilight, a fourth Mission: Impossible, a second Kung Fu Panda, a fifth Fast, another Hangover, and further Cars. Standing alone on the list is The Smurfs, the adaptation of Peyo's Belgian comic strip. In fact, 2011 saw the release of no fewer than 28 sequels - the most we've yet seen in any given year.
